I thought apple is user friendly. That is why I bought it. I do not have a use to download my boot camp assistant for a compatible to microsoft words, excel, powerpoint. They told me I have iWork's for all of this products but mine is not working.

I bought an apple product which is MacBook Air about 7 mths. ago . Anyway I would like to download a compatible words, excel, powerpoint. they told me that I do not need it since IWORKS is all I needed. I tried my keynote , numbers does not worked. Somebody emailed me sending me this mumbo jumbo for it to work. Well, if I was a computer wiz, I probably will not be asking for help.
I followed the tutorials for windows for mac, followed every instructions, hold and behold another problem. I have to have a usb, when I bought this at Best Buy, I asked them what do I need , they said that I do not need anything else because it is all in there. So to make a long story short. I am just so frustrated .
How can I download the windows for mac, I know I have to start in utilities , boot camp assistant, then the usb problem. Please I need help, it is much needed for my job. Ipages does not saved anything, I mean nothing it just disappeared , and you do not have any idea how much I have the long hrs. I have put in.

You can buy Microsoft Office for Mac, it includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Or you can download a free copy of LibreOffice which contains substitutes (good ones) for the Microsoft Office programs.
Do not even think of using Boot Camp unless you have a complete and current TM backup or a clone to restore if it goes wrong. You will also need to buy Windows and Microsoft Office for it. And you MUST read the directions very carefully.

This started a few days ago, when I noticed skype would not open and keeps quitting unexpectingly. Now it's all of my microsoft office programs. I have read horrible things on the internet about creeps building some sort of 'backdoor' through Mircosoft Word and are now able to access my macbook. I want to feel safe again and I want to be able to use skype again. I think I will delete Microsoft office until I find/can afford a better version.
I have tried deleting and re-installing the programs, PRAM-ing my mac, doing the utilities organizing thing, and I downloaded 4 different scanners (Cleanmymac, VirusBarrier Express, Bitdefender Virus Scanner, and ClamXav) to help get rid of this and only one scanner found a small file that was harmful. I need some advice PLEASE!

Sorry I'm just getting to this now, but a lot going on today in this front. There is now a "K" version of Flashback and perhaps more going on.
A couple of considerations you need to be aware of.
It's clear from the results of your testing that the reason you were infected is because your Java is out of date, so it's important that you keep all your software up-to-date going forward.
But even that won't protect you from this new "K" version as Apple has not released the patch to it yet, so I encourage you to disable Java in all your browsers and consider doing so for everything by opening Java Preferences (located in /Applications/Utilities/) and unchecking the box next to "J2SE 6.0" and any other box that might be checked. If you find that some application(s) you need must use Java, then you should enable it only to run that application(s).
We cannot be certain that what you did totally killed the Trojan, so your best bet would be to restore your Mac back to where it was before you were infected using TimeMachine. If you don't have a TimeMachine backup or cannot determine the date of infection, then your safest solution is this one:

I suggest you take the following steps immediately:
1. Back up all data to at least two different devices, if you haven't already done so.
2. Boot from your recovery partition (if running Mac OS X 10.7 or later) or your installation disc (if running an earlier version of the Mac OS), launch Disk Utility, and erase the startup drive. This action will destroy all data on the drive, so you must be sure of your backups.
3. Install the Mac OS.
4. Reboot and go through the initial setup process to create an account. Don’t import anything from your backups at this stage.
5. If running Mac OS X 10.6.x or earlier, run Software Update.
6. Restore the contents of all the top-level subfolders of your home folder except “Library” from the most recent backup. You can also restore the files in the Library folder, but don’t restore any of its subfolders; only the files contained in those folders, and only if they’re visible in the Finder. Don’t restore any hidden files or folders, no matter where they are.
7. If you’re running Mac OS X 10.5.x or earlier, disable Java in Safari’s preferences, and leave it disabled until you upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later, including all available updates. The Java web plugin is unsafe to use under older versions of the Mac OS. Note: I’m not referring to JavaScript, which is unrelated to Java, despite the similarity in the names.
8. Change every Internet password you have, starting with banking passwords. Check all financial accounts for unauthorized transactions. Take this step only after you’ve secured your system in the preceding steps, not before.
9. Reinstall your third-party software from fresh downloads or original media, not from backups which may be contaminated. If you use any third-party web browsers under Mac OS X 10.5.x or earlier, disable Java in their preferences, as you did with Safari in step 7.
Of course, as of this morning you should follow my instructions for disabling Java and ignore his, at least until Apple gets that Java patch out.
Pay particular attention to Step 8 no matter what you decide to do. -
Boot Camp Assistant leaves me at a gray apple screen
I am working with a 2008 Mac Pro 3.1 w/ 1TB hard drive, a Lite-On iHAS dvd optical drive. My operating system is Yosemite. I am trying to install a Windows 7 partition, but Boot Camp Assistant is not being cooperative. Here's my process for installing it with BootCamp:
1. Created Windows 7 x64 install disk from downloaded .iso file (en_windows_7_....iso) — Maybe I am using the wrong installer?
2. Open Boot Camp Assistant, went through the motions of downloading the drivers onto a separate external thumb drive, then partitioning hard drive to have WINDOWS partition.
3. Boot Camp Assistant mentioned something to me about there being an extra bootable drive on an external drive (the thumb drive, I believe) and it wanted to disable that.
4. I disabled it.
5. Yosemite restarts.
6. The gray loading screen pops up with Apple logo.
7. Frozen for more than 10 min, at which point I believe something has erred.
If anybody can help me resolve this issue, it would be much appreciated! I'll be paying close attention to e-mail in order to provide quick responses to this thread.

I am running Snow Leopard on my early 2006 MBP. I just downloaded Boot Camp 3.1 so I can upgrade 3.0. Is there anything special I need to do to "install" 3.1 so that when I run Boot Camp Assistant it uses 3.1 instead of 3.0? That update does not apply to Boot Camp Assistant, and as you are using Mac OS X 10.6.8, you are using the most recent Boot Camp Assistant version for Snow Leopard.
Once you have installed Windows with Boot Camp, insert the Snow Leopard DVD in Windows and install the Boot Camp 3.0 drivers. Then, install the Boot Camp 3.1 drivers -

I have a new desktop and re-installed my identity from my airtime back up and on the log in page my picture comes up with my usual password hint, but it is not accepting my password and I do not have the option to reset using my apple id - that particular function is in grey and cannot be clicked on
Depending on what kind of computer you have, you're gonna need to put that backup in the appropriate folder or itunes is not gonna be able to see it for you to use.

I have a mac book pro with Boot Camp that also runs windows. I upgraded to Lion and now the mac side crashes/freezes periodically, especially iphoto. I am told by the genius' that I probably need to "clean" it and reinstall lion using the "recovery drive" which resets everything back to default and reinstalls the lion operating system. My question is will this also delete the "windows" partition drive and all that data too. If so that will be a huge pain in the ___ to back up and reinstall boot camp and windows. I want to shoot the lion.
There is no system like Acronis for the Mac platform. You can try using the buiilt in Disk Utility to create an Image of the complete Mac drive but I have found that this does not work very well as on tryiing to restore it gives errors sometimes.
You can use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable Clone of your system partition. But that is only for the System partition and not the complete drive.
If you use Boot Camp to install Windows on your Mac neither of those two programs will clone the Windows side.
Neither will Disk utility as Mac's can not create or write to a NTFS partition. So some other program is need for that. -

My ipjone keeps coming up with a message say that the cable or accessory urged in is not a reliable source for this iPhone but I do not have Nything plugged in to my iPhone. I Put it in a bowl of rice for 2 hours to see if that would help it but it hasn't. Is there anything thank can do???
Clean the connector on the bottom of the phone. Use a magnifying glass, bright light, and a wood or plastic toothpick. If you got the phone wet put it in a bag of uncooked rice for several days, not hours.

The pc that I used to download CD music to into my itunes library was stolen and I had no backup. I have all my itunes music on my iphone and ipod. can i have music from music from my iphone or ipod transferred to my mac computer through itunes?
I have a similar problem. I recieved an IPAD for my birthday, and my daughter updated my itunes library so i can use it with the ipad...and somehow all my songs (unpurchased from itunes, and downloaded from a large collection of CDs) ...and play lists were deleted. I still have them on my old ipod, and wonder how to get them back onto my computer so I can redistribute some of them to the ipad. I must be getting too old for this tech stuff, it gets less user friendly every year.

Whenever I turn my MacBook pro on, all the other stuff is loaded (MS word/excel/powerpoint), Spotify, iCal, etc are automatically loaded, so in order for me to go to my desired website, I have to close (x) out all applications loaded. Please advise.

Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.
It is possible to completely stop the Resume feature although I'm unconvinced that it is that annoying. Nevertheless see the following:
If you have not yet done so you must first make your /Home/Library/ folder visible. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the prompt paste the following command line:
chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN. Quit the Terminal application.
In the Finder navigate to the /Home/Library/Saved Application State/ folder. Delete the contents of the folder. Back up to the /Home/Library/ folder. Select the Saved Application State folder. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Sharing and Permissions panel at the bottom click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window.
Quit all open programs except the Finder (this is very important.) Next, navigate to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Look for a .plist file with "com.apple.loginwindow." in the file name followed by some numbers in hexadecimal. Select the file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and in the Sharing and Permissions panel click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window. If you also find a file with the same filename but with a last extension of ".lockfile," then you should delete it.
The above should eliminate the Resume feature system-wide. Note that any future system updates or upgrades will likely undo these changes. You will then need to repeat this procedure assuming there are no major changes in OS X related to it. -
have read posts re the iOS 6.1 mess up... but how do I fix this? It says 6.1.1 is there to correct this problem but it is not on iTunes to download. I cannot updte apps, download apps and have had to remove apps because they keep crashing! Very angry!
