Transfering Clarisworks documents from my old Performa to my new Mac Mini
Hello!
I suppose it's too much to hope that I'll be able to transfer the word processor and spreadsheet documents created in Clarisworks on my old, trusty Performa (still runs great) to Appleworks on my new Mac Mini using my old backup floppies and a USB floppy disk drive?
If that won't work, what would the easiest way be?

Well, I'd say give it a try. There are a number of routes, including using an ethernet crossover cable to form a mini network, burning the files to a CD (if you have a burner that will work with the Performa), or emailing the files to yourself from the Performa then retrieving them on the Mini. I'd say that the USB drive is the simplest so see if it works. If it doesn't work then post back and we'll see what is possible.
My real concern will be opening them once they are on the Mini which is running OSX. You can probably run Clarisworks in Classic mode.

Transferring itunes songs from my old PC to my new Mac?
Hi all,
Whats the best way to transfer all my music (itunes) tracks from my work PC to my new Mac that i use at home. Is it as simple as just copying my existing music libraries onto a memory stick and then just copying over to the Mac? And you know (or not!) in Windows how in My Documents it has that My Music folder in which to store all your songs? Where do i save them in the Mac?? I guess same can be said for all my photos too.
Also i got a Firewire cable but i just noticed that my PC doesn't have a connection for it (i was going to use this to help transfer over my files to the Mac). So do i need something else?
Any answers greatly appreciated!
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.9)When you open Finder, you should see on the left hand side, things like "Music", "Pictures".
Those are essentially like what you have in My Documents.
If you're using iTunes, whatever you play in there should automatically go to Music>iTunes>iTunes Music. It organizes the iTunes Music folder into more folders by artist names.
What I'd suggest doing is put your music on a memory stick, drag it into the iTunes program, then eject the memory stick. Then you'll find all your music stored and organized in the iTunes Music folder -

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.

i tried transferring my iphoto library from my old macbook onto my new macbook pro (via external hard drive), but when i open the new iphoto, it seems to have transferred ALL images ever used on my old macbook. so i tried to just delete all those images so i could try a different approach to transferring, but the new iphoto won't let me do anything and every time i try to delete anything it crashes (since the image amount is so high). please help!!

Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else. -

Only way to get it back is to restore your phone from a backup, if those pics were included in that backup.
But most likely those pics are gone.
What you should've done was import http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 the pics to your computer and after you restored from your old backup, you could sync those new pics to your phone via itunes. -

You'll need to erase the drive by booting up holding command-option-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
Use Disk Utility to erase the disk and then Internet Recovery. That will take a while.

install pse 12 on your new computer. if you no longer need it on your old one, deactivate (help>deactivate) it.

Started the transfer process from my old MacBook to a new MacBook pro using Migration assistant 12 hours ago. The screen says transferring your information. Moving about 270 GB using an Ethernet cable directly connected. Is this normal?
You can get a thunderbolt to firewire adapter. You can then get a firewire 400 to 800 cable and put the old computer in target mode. Then you can follow these instructions.

I have recently transferred data from my old PC to my new Mac Book Pro (Mavericks OS). Each transfer creates a new User account (titled 'Owner', 'Owner 1', etc). Four transfers. After the initial attempt with Migration Assistant failed (after hours and hours of wifi transfer) I did "mini-transfers" of more manageable, smaller bits of files -- my music in one, photos in another, etc. Since posting my question in this forum, i contacted Apple support, chatted with Angela, and she suggested getting an ethernet-USB adapter for my mac, connecting my external drive with ethernet and transferring files manually -- that is, NOT using the Migration Assistant at all. The new mini has a Firewire 800 port. Likely the PPC version only has Firewire 400. The OP will need a converter cable which is why I was asking first about what hardware is available and how much is being copied.
Probably go with using the external hard drive if you decide all you want are data files.
