I try to open Final Cut Express it asks to choose an Easy Setup. Help!

After recently insatlling Final Cut Version 2.0.2, I tryed to open the application
but it asked to choose an Easy Setup and re-install. I already deleted the
program but i have no idea what an Easy Setup is or what to do next! Someone please HELP ME!!!

to allow final cut express hd (3.01) to run as "any user" (in our case we are having users login with AD integration) and NOT have the issue of "At least 1 easy setup file..."
do the following:
login as admin
make "system" owner the folder (and all contained):
/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Express Support/Custom Settings
resolves the issue. it appears when FCE HD is installed as admin and run for the first time, the Custom Settings folder is created with the Easy Setup file installed - BUT it is owned by "admin". when anyone (other than admin - or an admin) logs in, they cannot access that folder and therefor cannot get to the easy setup file.
i tested this and it works. for any OS X users with a lab, FCE HD out there, this is the fix. hope it keeps a few people from pulling their hair out like me.

Trouble opening Final Cut Express

I'm borrowing a friends imac while my macbook pro is off for service. When I first got it the Final Cut Express worked perfectly. Now whenever I try to open Final Cut Express I get the message that the camera is not connected and when I tell it to continue it shuts down suddenly. I've tried to open it with the camera connected but it does the same thing. I've also tried to click on a saved project and open it but that didn't work either. Does anyone have any idea of what might be going on?

Thanks for answering. The imac is a 1ghz pc g4 with 256 ram. The Final Cut Express says that is version 1.0 (not for resale) so it must have come loaded on there from apple. I'm not sure how I could trash the preferences. The program doesn't stay open long enough for me to get in there. I tried to go to preferences when the message came up that it couldn't find the camera but it was grayed out. And once I click on continue that's when it closes down.

I just updated my RAM and I keep getting a crash report. I have a 21.5 Inch mid 2010 imac. I also am experiencing slow load times and when I try to open Final Cut it says that quartz extreme is not compatible and that I have no VRAM even though I do.

There have been a few reports on here where Corsair RAM seems to have caused users a lot of grief with crashes.
The recommendation on here, mostly, is to only buy RAM from macsales.com or crucial.com as they guarantee their modules will work and offer a no quibble lifetime guarantee.
I'd put the original RAM back in, return the Corsair chips for a refund and re-order from one of those two companies.

Since connecting my new Cinema display to my new Mac Pro, I can't open Final Cut Express. I get the message that I need Quartz Extreme to use it. How come it isn't in my brand new computer or monitor?? I could use FCE fine with an old monitor. HELP!

I finally called Apple support on Monday (couldn't on Sunday - it surprised me that they don't have 24/7 phone support). Tech had no idea, so put me onto a 'supertech' (in America?). He instructed me to reset the whole computer - turn it off, unplug it and then hold down 4 keys while it rebooted. That worked. I can now open Final Cut Express and iMovie. There's no reference to 'Quartz Extreme' in my 'About This Mac' display info, but I don't care, everything works now, hooray! (Now if I can only get my Mac mouse to work properly...)

If you export the project from FCE you can import the QuickTime into FCP. You can do limited work to it like adding titles.

I deleted a Final Cut Express project and emptied trash. Now can't open FCE. Message "one/more scratch disks does not have read/write access.

Use Disk Utility to repair permissions. Get Info for your drives and make sure the read/write permissiins are set correctly.

TA26655 opening final cut express movie in imovie hd

I need to fix the exposure in a school play video that I shot, but I only have imovie hd along with idvd hd to create the dvd.
I'm going to have to purchase an older copy of final cut express to do so, I think. If I open the imovie hd file in final cut express and tone down the exposure, can I then import that "fixed" file back into imovie hd or will I need to finish editing in final cut express and make a dvd from that? My ultimate goal is to make a disk image of the dvd movie for making future copies. What is the best way to do this?

Can only answer parts of this but anyhow.
A. iMovie and FinalCut - or really iMovie HD6 and FinalCut Express 4 or FinalCut Pro 6 - doesn't use the same way to handle VIDEO. So one can not jump from one to the other.
B. This has been made even worse as
• iMovie HD6 - and iMovie'08 to 11 - HAS nothing in common but the name - not a bit of code is related.
• FinalCut Express and FinalCut Pro was one way compatible from Express to Pro - not back
• FinalCut is now also disgraced in naming - as FCE/FCP - doesn't have any relation to FinalCut Pro X either.
So this is not as easy as it could have been.
You can in iMovie HD6 - Export out as a full quality QuickTime.mov movie and in FinalCut Express or Pro import it to lay a final touch to it - BUT - all is glued in so no further changes can be made to what's done in iMovie HD e.g. texts and transitions etc.
BUT !
The tools to color-correct and brightness / contrast adjustments is superior in FinalCut to iMovie where they are but basic. (nearly of no use at all - very very raw)
So this and some other tool's made me take the jump into FinalCut Pro (6.0.4) and I love it. Steep learning curve - but the freedom is fantastic.
Must problem is in the very beginning
• selecting what kind of project You are doing - e.g. PAL SD-Video 48kHz audio
• how the material is stored - and setting up the scratch disks (they jump back - so one must keep a very observant eye to this - EVERY time starting-up)
• but when this is a natural habit to get all sorted out (photos, audio and video where it must be) then the fun really begins.

Final Cut Express - Not asking to auto-conform?

Here's the story -
I make videos for YouTube all the time, I currently film with a Canon Rebel T2i at 1920x1080 at 30fps. When I import my footage, I use MPEG Streamclip to convert it to Apple Intermediate Codec at 100% quality, and "1920x1080 (unscaled)". I never specify a framerate, it usually does it on its own. Whenever I put that footage into Final Cut Express (4.0.1), I drag it into the timeline and it asks me if I want to change the sequence settings to match the settings of that clip, and I always click yes, and it always works fine. However, today I wanted to try out some new settings on my T2i, and the ONLY different thing I did was change from 1920x1080 30fps to 1920x1080 24fps (and also changed some color settings to make it easier to color correct, but that should have no effect). I put the SD card into my computer, as I always do, put the footage into MPEG Streamclip, as I always do, changed the settings to Apple Intermediate Codec, 1920x1080 (unscaled), 100% quality, and no specified framerate, as I always do. The clip imported fine, as it always does. I put it into Final Cut, made a new project, opened the new sequence in the timline, and dragged my clip in. But I got no message asking to change the sequence settings, and the clip was in a square canvas, instead of changing to the normal setting one, which is wide. The quality was also highly reduced. This was abnormal for me, so I tried making a new sequence and importing an old 1920x1080 30fps clip, and sure enough the message popped up asking me to change the sequence settings. It worked fine, but then I tried again in a new sequence to import the NEW clip, and the popup ceased to appear again. I tried restarting my computer, reimporting the clip, checking for Final Cut updates, everything, to no avail. I just can't seem to get the new settings' clip to work.
My question is - why isn't Final Cut working with this clip's minor framerate change, and how do I get it to work again?

Open Final Cut Express 4 project in Final Cut Studio 2?

We just upgraded our field laptop to FCE 4 and our workstations to Final Cut Studio 2. Now our machines are telling us we can't open documents from the laptop on our Studio machines. Isn't Studio 2 newer than FCE 4? Do we have any options here, other than to roll back the version of FCE on our laptop?

Thanks for the pointer, tallguy. I just got done with all the Pro App updates and the project opens fine in FCP. If I'd installed the updates before trying to load that project file, I'd have never noticed a thing!

Cannot open Final Cut Express HD

I have tried all the fixes I can find from the support page. I have re-entered serial numbers, re-installed and downloaded the FC 3.5.1 download. I have yet to open FC software, it starts to load then quits with no warning or messages.
The other packaged applications open perfectly.
I have MB Pro.
2GB ram and plenty of HD space.
Please HELP!

Try trashing the preferences using FCE Rescue. This allows you to back up the preferences and use them later. Plus, it's free!

If using the software doesn't solve your issue, you may want to try using the software on a different user account. Create a 'Test' account allow this user to be the administer. Then we can distinguish what's really going on. Whether it's your user name or your system.
FCP stopped working for me and it worked on my Test account. I migrated all of my files to a new user account and have gone from there.
A complete new OS X installation could also work, but this should be a 'if-all-fails' type of thing.

I rebooted the computer and attempted to open FCPExHDv.35.1 and got the registration dialog (the software has been registered with this computer). I entered the HD upgrade registration and registration failed. I entered the FCP v.2 registration and registration failed again. I then reopened FCPExHDv.3.5.1 and the application opened and displayed the upgrade registration. I'm glad it's working but I'm still wondering why I had to go through all the backflips and wondering what will happen the next time.

Students can't open Final Cut Express HD 3.5.1

We are managing preferences for Staff and Student users in a Mac lab.
Staff users are able to login and launch FCE HD with no problems. It opens, prompts them for the External A/V device, and then opens.
Student users are able to login and launch FCE HD. However, after they choose "continue" to bypass the External A/V device selection, the app simply closes with no error or warning.
I can't find log file that explains what is happening.
Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!

Active Directory users authenticating to an OD Master.
Local home folders for users.
Preferences managed with WGM.
Staff are not having apps restricted with WGM.
Students are having many apps restricted with WGM, but not FCE.

Unable to start/open Final Cut Express

I cannot start FCE on my Macbook. Up to yesterday, it had been working fine and had been for 18 months or so. When I try to start FCE, a white rectangle appears and the spinning wait cursor. I've taken the actions recommended elsewhere on the forum:
- I've removed the preferences file
- I've reinstalled FCE (a couple of times)
- I've repaired permission on the hard drive
Currently the Registration Information dialog is displayed, but I cannot enter details into it because spinning wait cursor is turning (Application Not Responding).
What else could I try, please?

What version of FCE are you running? FCE4 is the only version supported for use with Snow Leopard.
How did you go about reinstalling? Did you first fully remove all components of the program described [here|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2662419#Reinstall]?
