I tunes will not install due to quicktime

hello, I have an older pc and everytime I go to install Itunes, it goes through the whole process and at the very end says it cannot install because quicktime is not installed correctly and gives me some error message. I have never had itunes on this pc because of that. Is there a download that just has itunes and not the stupid quicktime which I don't give a crap about anyway?
Thanks
Cliff ([email protected])

You need the QuickTime. It provides all the audio and video playback capabilities for iTunes. (Conceptually, you don't go too far wrong thinking of iTunes as a gigantic QuickTime plugin.)
it goes through the whole process and at the very end says it cannot install because quicktime is not installed correctly and gives me some error message.
What's the precise text of that error message, Cliff? That would give us the best possible heads up on what is actually going wrong with the install.

  • Itunes 7 - win xp pro will not install "iTunes needs quicktime" error

iTunes 7 will not complete the install - it says the old version of iTunes could not be uninstalled and then says "iTunes needs quicktime". I tried installing quicktime alone and it also won't install saying it cannot remove the old version. Tried a manual uninstall and I get the same error.

A tip posted by b noir on the following link solved my problem. I just downloaded "Windows Installer CleanUp Utility" from Microsoft, removed my existing version of Qiucktime. Restarted my computer then started fresh with Itune 7 installation. No more problems.

  • ITunes 64 will not install: says needs Quicktime, which *is* installed

    This is what I've done:
    Deleted temp directory
    Restarted
Uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime, through Windows Add/Remove programs
    Deleted temp dir
    Restarted
    Installed Quicktime (from QuickTimeInstaller.exe,  v7.69.80.9)
    Deleted temp dir
    Restarted
    Ran iTunes 64.msi, v10.4.0.80
Received the message, "Installation was not successful. iTunes requires Quicktime".
This was my fourth attempt this evening. Not happy with Apple, right now. Can anyone suggest another approach that works?
    Thanks!

Exactly my problem. Very frustrating. It bricked my wife's iphone. She was not happy. I'll never update itunes or the iphone again!
    Apparently what happened is this...
I plugged her iphone into the pc.
    Itunes then updated the iphone.
Next, Itunes wanted to update itunes, but I kept getting the above Error.
So, I installed the Windows installer cleanup utility as the other posts say to do.
Then I deleted itunes with the cleanup utility.
    Still, I get the error.
But finially, and here is the Solution...
Use the installer cleanup utility to delete any itunes things listed.
Apparently the Iphone update installer was the problem... Delete It with the cleanup utility!
    Hooray!
Thanks Apple for this horrible hassle!

  • Itunes 7 will not install due to DEP (data execution prevention)

I am trying to install itunes 7 on a windows XP computer. It crashes each time I try to install immediately after clicking continue on the screen where it has 3 checkboxes (first puts icon on desktop, the second makes itunes the default audio player). I get an error that itunes installer has been shut down by windows by the DEP. It does this even if I exclude all the itunes on DEP. If I set DEP to only monitor windows processes, it still crashes at the same spot, it just doesnt bring up the dep window.
    Any ideas?

Either way I get the same installer error twice then an itunes error that it could not install because it needs quicktime. (which I have).
okay ... 7.0.0.70 needs QT 7.1.3. the itunes/QT installer bundle has changed up significantly, in that the QT part of the install runs before the itunes part. (it used to come second.) so if there's a problem with a QT install, that might be causing the current issue with the overall itunes install.
so let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1.3 install, to see if that goes in properly.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention itunes
if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.
if the install goes through okay, try another itunes 7.0.0.70 install. does it go through properly this time?

  • Intunes will not install along with quicktime

i download the latest version of itunes and quicktime and when i try to install it i get an error about how quicktime can not read c:/windows/installer/quicktime.msi cannot read so any help would be greatly helped i have totally removed quick time and itunes from every where program files folder and registry

I get very worried when people tell me that they were editing the registry. I hope you possibly made a backup of the registry before you did those edits.
Ok we are going to need a more detailed plan for you.
I still want you to redownload the standalone installers for both QT and itunes. Save them to your desktop.
The steps I'm going to give you are detailed and you need to follow them word for word. Read the instructions carefully cause I've had people totally do the wrong thing after they read a step.
    1. Uninstall itunes, ipod & QT software from add/remove programs in the control panel. (If listed)
    2. Reboot your PC
    3. Re-download the itunes installer and QT and save this installer to your desktop
    4. Go to C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations. You should see folders like {06EB3288-C5F4-4C73-8EEE-AC798668FF66}
    5. Look in each of these folders for itunes.msi and delete the folder. Be careful to only delete the folders containing itunes, msi
    6. Clean out your temp folders
    a. C:\windows\temp (if one exists)
    b. C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Temp
Sometimes installers will pick up old files or won’t delete their temporary files.
    7. Go to http://www.download.com/3000-2094-881470.html and download the regcleaner. Unpack it and run it. This is a nice utility that will delete broken registry entries and create a file with them. This way if it deletes anything needed you can add it back. Note I never had to do this with using it for many years. Also it doesn't list XP but you'll be fine. I run XP on both.
    8. Delete the itunes and QT folders from c:\program files\
    9. Reboot your PC between each installer!
    10. Now try to go and install everything again. I'd do QT first then follow with itunes. Remember to disable virus/firewall/privacy/web accelerators before launching the install.
When you go to install QT please note everything that happens in detail for me. This way if something goes wrong I'll be able to suggest something else. Also write down the EXACT error message word for word if you get one. Once QT is installed, reboot and test it. If it opens ok then proceed to install itunes.
    Let me know the results.

  • Trying to reload Canon MP620 printer but it will not install due to OS version.  Tried to do custom download and it still will not print?

When I try to print it always says Communication error.  Sometimes it will start printing then it will print the first few lines and stop.  It is a wireless printer connection.  We needed to reinstall after we upgraded our wireless router.  Every time we try to install printer on Macbook Pro it says it can't due to OS version not supported.  So what do we need to do to install the printer?

Okay loaded the latest print driver from the link supplied.  The software will still not load it says "OS Version is not supported."  So how do I determine what OS Version I need to have to install the printer.  We have had the printer for a several years.  The Macbook is only 1 yr old.

  • I-tunes will not install on 64bit Windows 7

I've spend days literally trying to get I-tunes installed on my HP Pavilion dm4 running Windows 7 Professional. Original problem was the installer wanted to install on the F drive which I don't have. I spent 3 hours with Apple support and 2 more hours with HP support, with no luck. I found a post by b noir dated June 1 about renaming a drive to the one it wants to install. That worked, but now I get a message during the install "There is a problem with this window installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run.. contact your support personnel" I found another post that said to right click the program and run as administrator... No luck. This seems to be an issue since June, maybe I've just missed a post on how to fix... Please help.. I'm a dye-hard fan of i-tunes and my Iphone. (FYI-it's a new notebook and I just went back to the old one to update my phone but it's a dying machine I need to toss out.)

A bit off-topic, but that Admin View looks difficult to use. I use this one instead
Rats. THAT stupid message, "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package." There used to be a handy utility from microsoft to get rid of those errors. Microsoft has pulled it, though. Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. If you can find a valid copy, you'd have this fixed in minutes. But I digress.
The problem is certainly with Apple Software Update. Perhaps I misunderstood, I didn't think you were updating from within itunes? I thought you said you DL'd the iTunesSetup64.exe, right?
In Windows Explorer, do you see that file mentioned in the error message?
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Apple Software Update\SoftwareUpdate.exe
Can you uninstall Apple Software Update from Control Panel > Programs & Features?

  • I-tunes will not install. even after i used all of the help offers.

Okay so, My computer has JUST recovered from a huge virus that decided to completely demolish everything but the computer was still able to be fixed. So i reinstalled windows and most of my drivers. Now i am trying to install I-tunes and it keeps giving me the message: An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,publickeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",Version=8.0. 50727.762",processorArchitecture="x86"'.Please refer to Help and Support For more information. HRESULT: 0x80070424.
so if anyone has ANY idea what that means i would love for you to tell me cause its starting to anger me tremendously.

Not the most common of iTunes installation error messages. That one often seems to be a side effect of the same problem that causes error 8007000b when you try to install Windows Vista updates.
To doublecheck, try getting some Windows Updates. If they error out with an 8007000b, try the following Microsoft troubleshooting document:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Update-error-8007000b
If that fixes your 8007000b, does your iTunes installation also go through properly afterwards?

  • Itunes will not install due to Invalid folder path

I have downloaded Itunes and every time I attempt to install it I get the message "The folder path "My Pictures" contains an invalid character". What can I do?

    This should help,
This happens due to incorrect shell folder value type, or due to incorrect data in the registry. To resolve the problem, fix the My Pictures Shell folder paths in the registry accordingly. The default values are given in a tabular column in the following article. There is also a .REG fix available in the following page:
    http://windowsxp.mvps.org/usershellfolders.htm
Don't forget to inspect the value type. If you're using an expandable string data such as %userprofile%, then the registry value type should be of REGEXPANDSZ, not REG_SZ.

  • Firefox 4.0 will not install due to previous uninstall of Firefox

I can't believe this. I decided to up upgrade to Firefox 4.0 (I had Firefox 3.6.xx and IE 7 on my Windows XP system). The install says I needed to reboot because of a uninstall version of Firefox ("Your computer must be restarte to complete a previous uninstall for Firefox. Do you want to reboot now?"). I rebooted and started the installer again (I had saved it to my hard drive). Same message. Went to Control Panel and manually unistalled Firefox. Rebooted, same message. Deleted the installer, downloaded another version. Same message. Been fighting this for two weeks. Can not find an answer in the forum. Would love to install but I might just have to go to some other browser if this is not resolved soon.

The company that make the bioscanner for HP have abandoned it. For more details see https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/799388

  • I Tunes will not install on my Win8 laptop. is there a fix?

Im having alot of trouble getting ITunes to install on my Win8 Dell inspiron. The install gets right to the end and then fails.

If there is it probably requires doing so in compatibility mode.  Try searching Google to see if anyone has looked into this for Windows 8 or even an earlier version since it likely a question for earlier Windows versions as well.
