- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

If you have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
Are you sure you really do not have a 2G iPod? Those can only go to 4.2.1

First see if placing the iPod in Recovery Mode will allow a restore.
Next try DFU mode and restore.

i have done everything i can find and think of yet its not playing i have ran out of ideas now
i have purchased the upgrade through itunes it comes up with the conect ipod touch message then says click download and install button but there isnt one then it says check summery tab but when i click update it says my ipod is up to date but its not and when i return to the itunes screen it says your perchase is being downloaded it may take 30 mins but nothing is actually downloading that i can see anyway can anyone please help ? i have left it 'downloading' for 2 hours !

You need iTunes 10.7 or later on the computer.
You do have a 4G, right? It does have cameras?

Can't update my ipod touch to iOS 5.3 (4th G)!
i have an ipod touch 4th generation. i want to update it to iOS 5.3 but everytime i do from itunes an error message occurs in different forms. however the most frequent message is: There was a problem downloading the software for the ipod: "xxx's ipod". An unknown error occured(9006). (i currently have version 4.2.1)
along with this, it assumes like 12 hours for the download to be complete and and arror message appears after a few hours.
what is the problem and how should i resolve it to update my ipod touch?Okay. I've tried syncing it first, resetting it first, downloading the firmware, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, I've checked my connections and ports and everything, run all kinds of diagnostics, and nothing is working. Every time it says it's backing it up, my iPod resets and then it's back to square one. I'm going to restore it and see if that helps. What a pain in the butt, especially since it wouldn't back it up.... >.<

What will Apple do if my iPod Touch 4g crashed while updating to iOS 6?
Yesterday while trying to update my iPod touch 4g to iOS 6, it just suddenly shut down mid-way (on a charger). When I tried turning it back on, it would pull up the battery screen indicating that the battery is low, so I would plug it in the charger again. Although after its charged a bit, it would pull up the Apple logo and then go to a (teal) blue screen and I cannot do anything else. When plugged into a computer, my laptop can't even recognize my iPod touch. I've tried draining the battery out all of the way, then charging it up again and it won't work. My iPod touch isn't jailbroken either, and there was 2.4GB free space like indicated during the update. I'm wondering what will Apple do if I would bring it to the store?
I'm really upset because I just barely bought this about two months ago when I broke the screen on my other iPod touchtry putting it in DFU mode

Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely. Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again. -

Can anyone help me with this issue???Connect your iTouch to your PC then open iTunes, if iTunes does not recognize your device, try to hold the SLEEP Button and the HOME button at the same time (iPod Reset) for a couple of seconds until the "Charging Tone sounds, now you should be seeing your device name in the iTunes " Device List". If you do, just click RESTORE and iTunes will automatically restore your iTouch to original set-up and download the iOS6 update.
