Why is it not on your computer in itunes and included in your regular backup of your computer?
You buy one and only one download. It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your music.

I had about 100-150 dollars in apps and music and i backed them up and then i had to restore and i selected my back up file and when it turned on all my apps and music were deleted.....

- Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right-clicking on the iPOd under Devices in iTunes and selecting Back Up.
- Restore the iPod from that backup. That should also get you the update.

HELP! I bought a new Mac (my first) and used my nano as an external hard drive to transfer my itunes library from my old PC to the new Mac, then re-synced the nano. However, something happened when I transferred because it duplicated every song. So I went through the entire library (about 1400 songs X 2) and deleted the duplicates, then emptied the trash. I deleted all the music on my phone but now I can't add any of that music back. It says the songs are already on there, and they're visible in iTunes but I can't delete them or play them.

The music is not on my phone and I've checked I selected 'show all music' and it's not there. But when I plug my phone into my laptop all the music that use to be there still appears in the music folder but I can't delete it. So now when I try to add some of that music back onto my phone, a thing pops up saying iTunes cannot add any songs to the iPhone because it already contains all the songs in the playlist “iphone”.

As stated in the title, I was redownloading old purchases. After transferring a tv show onto my iphone it would not allow me to transfer another one. I wasn't able to locate the show on my phone, so then I checked my music. All of my music and podcasts were missing. My books were showing up at first, but then as soon as I closed out of one that I was reading and clicked on a different one they all vanished as well. I tried dragging on a song, a book, a show, and I kept getting the circle with the line through it. I have no idea what to do. My phone has always been set up to manually manage music and videos. When I selected to sync all music it still wouldn't do anything.
I've also recently, within the past 4 hours, uninstalled and reinstalled itunes because it kept crashing when I was trying to download my old purchases. I've done it before and haven't had any issues with it deleting anything before. I'm in the process of restoring my phone in the hopes that this will work, but I don't know if it will.
Anyone out there that can help me?

iPhone 3G is Old technology. When it was launched it had iOS 2.0. Currently, the highest it can go is iOS 4.2.1 and therefore can not handle many newer applications. As you have recorded, it is giving good service for which it has been designed.
Needless to say, if you want to use applications as stated, you must have at least 3GS, whose current is iOS 6.1.2. On the lighter side; Rather than updating iOS they are asking you to update iPhone (Technology). Cheers

Hmmm, you may regret not using your laptop (presumably to synch to iTunes ... that's very likely the simplest and fastest way).
Otherwise, assuming you do not have an iCloud backup, you'll just be able to retrieve your iTunes purchased songs. Open iTunes on your iPhone, go to "More" on the bottom right, then click "Purchased", and download your songs from there.

Apps and music are NOT part of the backup that itunes performs.
If for some reason you have failed to transfer all purchases from the ipod to your computer before updating , then you can redownload some content in some countries.

I had this problem post 6.1. Not sure if it was a coincidence, but I'd just recently changed my password after being convinced I'd been hacked, due to being told I was entering my password wrongly, repeatedly by iCloud / iTunes. It turns out my iCloud account on my Settings -> Mail, Contacts and Calendars was listed as Inactive. Putting in my details, turning off Contacts over iCloud (thus deleting them) and turning them back on again, repopulated my contacts from iCloud with numbers attached to them.

Sometimes that you see something it saves in cache, (or could be that the show is in progress to be deleted) so here's the problem.
Just restart your device to see if the cache of the shows deletes themselves.
Then try to import your music again.
