I upgraded iTunes and now my songs sound horrible - help!

I was prompted a couple of times to upgrade the version of iTunes that I have on my computer - I upgraded at least twice (if not three times). Recently I tried listening to some of my music from my computer by selecting songs from my iTunes library and the songs sounded horrible - the songs sounded like I was listening to a scratched up CD, but I know that isn't the problem because the CDs are fine and the songs on my iPod (which were never updated after I updated the version of iTunes) are fine. What's the problem and what can I do to fix this? Thanks!

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

  • Upgrading iTunes and now I can not open my iTunes

My old version of iTunes, I believe it was 9.0.2? not 100% sure on what the old version was, but it told me that I was in need of an upgrade on my itunes so I said ok and I went and upgraded to iTunes 10. After I went through the downloading process that it walked me through, I went to open iTunes and it will not let me and it say "iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes." Does this mean everything that was on my iTunes is lost? I am going to be very upset if this is the case because this would be the 3rd time iTunes has messed up and my money on songs has gone to waste.

Did you update it to 9.6?

  • Update install and delete error says itunes is on a network unavailable.  I also upgraded Itunes and now it won't recognize my Ipad touch

I upgraded Itunes about a month ago and since then It does not recognize my Ipod and then I tried to update again and it won't upgrade.  The error message says it's on a unavailable network path not found.  So I tried to get tech support they told me to delete and start over.  I went through my control panel and it gave me the same network error and would not delete the software.  I am beyond frazzeled over this.  Please help.

Essentially 'b noir' is correct, it will be relating to the .msi file that is, for lack of a better word, screwed. It's a pretty long process in order to cleanly remove and redownload the correct file.
Not really a long process if you can hunt down a copy of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. If you have that installed and working, then so long as you know which particular msi (or msis) are being complained about, you can get past the issue in most cases pretty quickly. For example, for an itunes.msi message see:
error message that I'm missing iTunes.msi.
There's some additional information in my notes on the bookmark about one possible complication requiring a bit more work. (I'm steadily building the additional info on advanced troubleshooting into bookmarks as I build my public Bookmarks, and eventually tag searches on my Bookmark tags should pull up advanced troubleshooting steps too.)

  • Upgraded Itunes and now it wont open!

I just upgraded my iTunes to 9.02. Now I cannot open iTunes at all. The icon is there but it will not open. I have a MAC OS X 10.4.10 And in order for this itunes 9 to work I need safari 4, and in order for THAT to work I need a 10.4.11. Ahhh! Is there anyway to download the older version of itunes? I just want my music back!

you can download the Mac OS X 10.4.11 combo update here http://support.apple.com/downloads/#mac%20os%20x%2010.4.11%20combo%20update.
however, if you really want to go back to a previous iTunes version, try this:
    +1) Quit iTunes.+
+2) Delete iTunes from your Applications folder.+
+3) Go to your ~/Music/iTunes folder. Delete or rename the "iTunes Library" file.+
+4) Open the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and look for the backup of your old pre-9 library; it should be dated at about the time you first ran iTunes 9. Copy it back out to the ~/Music/iTunes folder, and rename it to "iTunes Library".+
+6) click here to download iTunes 8.2.1. The page says it's for G3, but the Read Me file says it'll run on G4, G5, and Intel too. Open the disk image and run the installer.+
+You should now be able to run iTunes 8.2.1 again.+
+And your iTunes will restore to before you upgraded and you won't lose anything+.

  • I updated itunes and now my songs will not sync from the computer to ipod

I just updated my itunes software and my song will not transfer to the ipod. I tryed a new port but tha seems unlikly because itunes does reconize the ipod it just will not update the songs. I restarted the ipod that did not work so i updated the installed software and refreshed the ipod noe I have no songs because it wiped out the ones that were there from the old sync. I have tryed doing a manual update as apposed to the automatic update but that did not work either. I have tryed turning off my anti virus software but that did not work??? any ideas?

Ive had the same problem and I restored my i-pod then when i hooked up the i-pod it said it was full and asked If I wanted it to select a few songs to put on, i clicked yes thinking It meant it would just put my selected songs on but then it put 675 songs out of the library on when i only have 67 checked. they play wether tehyre checked in the Library or not, is there any way to fix this?

  • Just upgraded iTunes- And now it won't let me on

Minutes ago, I upgraded to iTunes 8. When I tried go go on, it says the internet connection is timed out. I have restarted and flushed my computer and I am getting kinda concerned. PLEASE HELP!!

    Hi,
This issue could be caused by security software. If you haven't already, try to reconfigure or temporarily disable the security software on the PC.

  • Upgrade iTunes and now it doesn't connect to Gracenote

Both my computers had iTunes running flawlessly. I bought a new iPod and installed the software that is bundled with it. Now, whenever I put a CD in the drive, it doesn't even recognize the CD. One of the PCs just doesn't connect to CDDB and the other returns an http error.
I have reinstalled iTunes, uninstalled, delete all related registry keys and reinstalled to no avail. Clues anyone?

hmmm. some varieties of security software (NIS 2005 is a classic example) seem to treat every new version of itunes as a different program, and generates a new set of internet access rules for the new version. so it's possible to have one version connecting fine, but a different version being blocked.
what make and model of security software are you using?
    love, b

  • Moved itunes and now it wont look please help!!

Alright so My friend let me use his External drive for three month's, I had to reinstall it to the External, losing all my Play counts ratings and what not.
So now my friend took his External back and i moved the music folder and the folder that itunes was installed on to my Desktop. I finally got itunes back up but all the music is missed place and it cant go on the itunes store or retrieve CD Information. Please help.
    ~Sue

It sounds like you need to ask your friend if you can borrow the exHD long enough to copy your music files to your PC's internal hard drive.
They got taken away when the exHD was removed, apparently. itunes (or any other music program, for that matter) won't be able to find or play them if they are no longer around!

  • I rented a movie off itunes and now it won't play, help?!?!

I tried to play the rented movie when the option box came up saying I could, however the movie had not fully downloaded yet, I assumed it would stream as I watched. However the movie will not play and only shows a blank screen. How can I get it to play?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Delete the song and redownload it by
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
