I use idisk for providing a library of music scores to an orchestra.  Will icloud provide similar file sharing features? As I look at the features list that is published and examine my new icloud account... there seems to be no directory file structure and means to designate public and private directories. If icloud does not support this file sharing and idisk goes away in June 2012 I'll need to secure another file sharing service.  Is this correct?

Have you tried just copying the iTunes library from the old computer to the new? This may not work so move the original iTunes library before doing it. Quit iTunes, move the iTunes library file (in the iTunes folder) to the desktop. Copy the iTunes library file from the old computer into your iTunes folder and start iTunes. If all is okay, great.
If not, on the old computer, select each playlist manually and select export. Export the playlist (XML or text, it doesn't matter). Copy to your new computer and import them. This works fine with everything put smartlists. So far I've not found a way to copy them.

  • Why can't I use iDisk for a back-up disk for Time Capsule?

    G'Day All,
I am new to apple and mostly am loving it! Being new to this product has me asking some basic questions, like ... why can't I use iDisk for a back-up disk for Time Capsule?
Here I have something like 20 gb disk space available, but it seems I need to buy an external hard drive (or an airport) in order to use, what I believe is one of apples greatest inventions, the Time Machine...
Can anyone correct my flawed understanding or, better yet, teach me how to do it properly?
    Cheers
    Gabriel

Speed makes sense, but I thought I had plenty of size available ... never mind! Looking over some of the other posts, it looks as though I'd be better off with an external Hard drive than the Apple Time Capsule (if I want more than 12-18months service).
That was true of some of the ones made a couple of years ago (many of which Apple replaced way beyond the warranty period, and even some beyond the 3-year AppleCare period). Presumably Apple has fixed the power supply problem in the newer units, so they'll last longer.
If you don't have AppleCare for your Mac, I'd strongly suggest buying it. If you do, and buy a TimeCapsule, Airport, or other accessory within 2 years, it's covered, too.
But unless you need a wireless router, yes, paying for one in a Time Capsule doesn't make sense. A good external HD is a much better buy.
thank you for the links - I am still getting used to the way Apples work ...

If I enroll in iCloud will I still be able to back up everything to my iDisk or is it disabled?

iDISK will work till june 2012. I do use iCLOUD and still using iDISK for documents... As ICLOUD doesn't synchronize documents on the MAC, only on iPHONE, iPADs

    Hi mariab,
What format are those music scores (I'm not familiar with cubase documents). But, it may be that Adobe PDF Pack doesn't support that format. In that case, Acrobat is the way to go. You can then print your files to PDF as you'd like. You're welcome to try Acrobat for free for 30 days to see whether it's going to work for you. If you decide it is, and you'd like to use it going forward, you could convert your PDF Pack subscription into an Acrobat subscription.
    Best,

You should contact the department of studies at the school and ask what types of application that you might have to use.  If there are Windows based ones, then you may have to consider installing Windows in your MBA or get a PC.  This could have an influence on the amount of storage the MBA should have.

If you upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion, and did not upgrade to Office 2008 or later, that may be part of the problem.  Try LibreOffice, OpenOffice, NeoOffice, Google Docs, or Zoho Docs.  See my FAQ* for link:  http://www.macmaps.com/crossplatform.html

  • HT201301 I see some iOS apps in the file sharing list for my iPad device but I do not see the same APP on the file sharing list of my other iOS device

There are some iOS apps appear in the file sharing list  of my iPad that does not appear in my iPhone file sharing list. Why is that and why iBook App does not show on the sharing list of my iPad?

The apps which show on the file sharing section on your iPad when connected to your computer's iTunes, you have exactly the same apps installed on your iPhone - they are not separate iPad and iPhone apps that you have installed on your iPad/iPhone, and only the iPad version supports file sharing ?
For iBooks, that won't show, it doesn't support file sharing. You can add ibooks / epubs / PDFs to your computer's iTunes library (the iBooks app if you are using a Mac with OS X Mavericks on it) via File > Add To Library, and you sync them to a device via its Books tab :
If you want to copy them off the device to your computer's iTunes (to the iBooks app on Mavericks) then File > Devices > Transfer Purchases will copy them over (that will copy PDFs and epubs from the iBooks app on your device, not just ibooks).

  • Using iDisk for the Autosave Vault?

I'm currently using FCE with a MacBook Pro. I often use MacBook Pro hooked to a variety of external hard drives. However, sometime it would be nice to use it not hooked up to all of those drives. But I would still want to be able to have Autosave Vault active.
I have MobileMe. Would it be possible to use the MobileMe iDisk as a location disk for the Autosave Vault? Has anyone tried that? Does it work satisfactorily?
    Thanks!
    James

    The answer is no.
FCE expects scratch disk locations to be on locally connected internal drives or external FW drives. Even though the location of Autosave Vault can be set on its own, it is unlikely to work over a network connection.
Theoretically you could create an alias connecting the Autosave Vault folder in your scratch disk to a location on your iDisk, but that too would be unreliable even if you initially got it working.

  • HT4859 if my music library is on an external hard drive, will iCloud still back it up? I can't get mine to work they way it's supposed to

I can't get iCloud to back my music up, and I'm wondering if the issue is that my library is on an external drive.

That's true if I want to back up my entire library - which would be awsome. But according to the iCloud page on Apple I should be able to find my Purchases on iCloud without having to sign up for iTunes Match. When I go to iCloud I don't see an icon for music.

....My understanding is that I should be able to find my music purchses on iCloud. Am I missing something?

  • How can i use AME for the new OAF page.

    Dear all,
I have developed a new OAF page and registered under Employee Self Service.
How can i use AME for the approval process.
    Appreciate your ideas?
    zamora

I will try to answer based on my experience of working with iProcurement and AME. It depends on how you want to make a call to AME , directly from OAF Page or from Workflow and your requirement. You didn't specify what you want to show the users on OAF Page and your business requirement.
Before calling AME Engine from the OAF page or workflow, I guess you did already setup AME Transaction Type and it's Approval Groups, Conditions, Action Types and Rules. Do some testing from AME Business Analyst Test Workbench. Please note that, AME provides lot of PL/SQL API's that you have to call from your programs (java or workflow pl/sql)
Let's look at the workflow and putting an OAF Page as notification.
As Sameer said, you have kick-off workflow process from PR of CO and with in the workflow function, you make a call to AME Engine API's with the AME Transaction ID. This transactionId belongs to the AME Transsaction Type that you setup. Based on the rules setup, AME Engine generates list of approvers/approver and stores them AME Tables for that transactionId. Then, it sends a notification to the approver.
In the workflow, where that notification is defined, in the message body you have to put an attribute(&XX_WF_FWK_RN) of type document/send. And this attribute will have the constant JSP:/OA_HTML/OA.jsp?OAFunc=XX_FUNC&paramId=-&DOCUMENT_ID-. This function is SSWA Jsp function that makes a web html call to your OAF Region.
If your requirement is to just show the list of approvers on the OAF Page, you may have to call AME API diectly passing your AME TrasnactionId with other parameters. Then AME generates list of approvers and stores them in AME tables with each approver status. You can pickup those approvers using VO and show them on OAF Page.
    Hope this gives some idea.

I have a USB adapter for my iPad, can I plug in a AT&T USB Connect Momentum and use it for my internet connection??

Probably not normally, Apple has removed some of the hidden features of the USB dongle via a software update for iPad. One of those features was playing host to hard drives, keyboards, etc.

  • Mac to Mac file sharing not working for new folders

My folks got a new iMac today, and I've got a 2007 iMac on the same network. We're both running 10.8.2.
I had a few folders set up to share files. My public folder, Movies, and then a new fold called "Mom" that I set up specifically for them. The settings are identical on all the folders, but they can only access "Movies." If I try to access any other shared folders from their machine, I get the following error:
"The operation cannot be completed because the original item for "[insert folder name]" cannot be found."
I have read the Mac 101: File Sharing document (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1549?viewlocale=en_US) and followed the directions to no avail. I have removed and re-added all the folders, and still, only "Movies" is readable from their iMac (it too was removed and re-added). The settings for all the folders are identical to the settings for "Movies."
Additionally, after a short period any new folder I create and use as a shared folder will no longer allow me to rename it, even after I remove it from the shared folders list. The folders are not locked, and I have full admin privileges.
(Things work fine the other way, though: I can set up shared folders on their new iMac and access them just fine from my 2007 iMac.)

    hi there,
that error message sounds like you placed a shared folder within a parent folder that is not shared. It also can help to boot into Recovery Mode (pressing Command and R simultanously when hearing the startup tune), launch Disk Utility, select the disk containing your OSX installation (usually named Macintosh HD) and choose Verify Disk Permissions. Should any problems be reported select Repair Disk Permissions. Once that is finished, reboot normally.
Though unlikely, it might have happened during all the folder removing and readding that some Permissions are out of sync. So checking these Permissions is merely a precaution
Once you are back in "normal" OSX using your admin account, try this:
Open Terminal from the Utilites folder
enter the following commands one line at a time:
    mkdir /Users/Shared/Family
    mkdir /Users/Shared/Family/Movies
    mkdir /Users/Shared/Family/Mom
    chown -R <placeholder> /Users/Shared/Family
    chmod -R 755 /Users/Shared/Family
Be sure to replace <placeholder> with your account's short name (no brackets!)
Now open System Preferences and select Sharing
Select File Sharing from the left pane
Click on the little plus and add /Users/Shared/Family to your shares (The subfolders are automatically included)
in the right most pane check the access privileges. They are set, so that you can read and write to those folders, while everyone else can only read. If you want everybody to have read and write privileges, use 777 instead of 755 within the terminal last command.
Now the other computers should be able to see and use the shared folder you just created.
If you create individual user accounts on your machine for every family member you want to access the shared folders, you can choose far more sophisticated levels of access privileges.
    Hope this helps,
    Chris

  • Using Apple Server File Sharing

How does Apple Server work?  Is it possible to just use the file sharing feature?  I would like to set up a file sharing service similar to dropbox where users log in and can see there files as well as files that everyone can access.  How do I set up the server is it run off my "computer" that acts as a server for the company? Or does Apple host it?
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.  I am trying to see how Apple Server works with the goal of being able to remotly access my files like Dropbox but without the file size limitation.

If you really want to learn more about OS X Server, I highly recommend the Apple Training Series books at Peachpit Press.
    http://www.peachpit.com/store/product.aspx?isbn=0321775082
You can get either an eBook, or a real book.... or both. They're very well written.  OS X Server works much better on an office LAN.  Hosting an Apple file share over the internet can be done, but you're always going to have to deal with connection speeds when connecting from outside of your office network.  You'll need a very fast internet connection that includes a very fast upload speed.  Of course, you're always going to be limited by the slower connection.  If the users are at home on a 3Mb/s DSL connection, and your server is attached to a 20Mb/s data connection, the users will download only at 3Mb/s, not 20.
I suggest that you don't make your own system a server.  If you shut it down, users can't get into it.  My rule about servers is that they should NEVER be someone's personal workstation.  You should invest the money to do this right.  For a small office, a Mac mini does a great job.  For a larger one, a Mac Pro loaded up with RAM and lots of storage is a better choice.  ALWAYS deploy a good backup solution.  Time Machine is good, but CrashPlan Pro would be even better.
