I've copied my itunes library onto an external hard drive. Is there any way I can do this and delete songs from my PC without also deleting from the external drive? Already lost two songs!!! I just want a back up - using a work PC and don't want others accessing my songs. Hope someone can help. Thanks!
I see. To get a better idea of what is being stored where please download and run the script iTunesInfo which should output something like this:
I'm interested in the block of 4 results starting ITL location. If your profile name shows up somewhere replace it with <Name>. It is also worth checking under Edit > Preferences > Advanced to see where iTunes thinks your media is supposed to go. My script estimates the setting based on the location of the first media file it can actually find.

My phone didn't come with the preset playlists. All my friends and my sister have them. Like, "top 25 in your library" "recently added" "recently played". Is there any way I can get these?
Those playlists are "Smart playlists".
I don't think that you can create them from the phone itself. I've only ever been able to create a smart playlist within iTunes and then syncing the phone. -
Our Windows PC crashed with all our music on it. There are copies of both purchased (thru iTunes store) and from our own CDs on an external HD in a backup file. They are not linked to a Media file. Is there any way I can put this music on my new computer?
The syncing of music is one way, computer to phone. See this helpful document from a fellow user. Credit goes to the author.

Whenever I try to sync my iPod Touch 5th gen with iTunes I get an error message saying "The iPod "*****" could not be synced because the sync session failed to start". Is there any way I can fix this?
B-rock, thanks for posting the above. I actually have the same issue, running Windows XP and I don't have that backup location, \Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\. When I go to Documents and Settings\(username)\ there's a AppData folder followed by:\LocalLow\DataMngr\ .
I have the latest update, 5.0.1 and I have the iPod Touch 3rd gen.
I have tried removing itunes and all that is associated with it then reinstalling and keep getting the same message. I've reset my ipod thinking that would help but still, no backup.
In iTunes, Edit, Preference, Device there are no backups.
What am I doing wrong, can you help?
Thank you! -

You can simply login to iCloud: https://www.icloud.com and then go to Find My iPhone...but if the iPhone is turned off or restored to factory settings it won't show up.

Please help!
You are seeing someone else's shared iTunes Library.
Is there a way I can download this music?
No, not without enabling Home Sharing, which would require using the same Apple ID and the other account holder's consent. -
My huband is going to be so ****** if I have to uninstall and reinstall itunes. PLEASE HELP ME! If he loses his playlists or any other information it will be devastating... he has a radio show!
When I try to open itunes it says that it won't open woithout Apple Application Support and says I need to uninstall and reinstall itunes. 2 things I'm afraid will happen.
1. He doesn't want to update to the latest itunes because all his friends told him not to because the newest version *****.
2. He might lose all his playlists and also even if he doesn't los his itunes library he might lose data and information about all the songs.
I just really need to open itunes WITHOUT uninstallign and reinstalling it. Is there ANY way I can do that?I also googled this question. Someone said if I download quicktime it comes with apple application support. Does that solve my problem?

After an auto-update installation this morning a dialog box appeared asking if I want Firefox to return to its default state. I stupidly said yes and now have lost all my Speed Dial thumbnails, URLs, and saved passwords. Is there a way I can undo this to return to the way Firefox was set up and working yesterday?
Thanks for the response. Of course, I did not back up my profile, so I guess I'm going to have to recreate everything.

I finally dud the update to my iPhone and now it's asking me to plug in to my computer and it shows the iTunes symbol. problem is I don't have a computer only an iPad. Is there any way of getting around that? My phone is not working. I have powered off and when it comes on it's still on the screen. Help??!
No way around this. Your phone has to be restored using a computer running iTunes. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

Hi all my ipod touch has just been stolen, is there any way to stop the person using it by signing into my itunes account. I had not yet downloaded the 'find my ipod' app.
No.
Sorry.
Report it to the police and change your passwords -
I wanted to download the movie "Gods and Generals" the Extended Director's Cut, it is only available in Itunes au, I live in the US. Is there any way around this so I can download this movie???
No, you can only download content from your own country's store. You can try requesting that the film be added to the US store, but ultimately it's the film studio that will have to grant Apple a license to sell it there : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

Copying old iTunes library onto a new hard drive: special question:
How do i do this when the music in my old iTunes library was not all in the itunes media folder (some was in downloads, shared folder, etc). Should I put these folders in the places where they were on my old hard drive (for example the "shared" folder was on the desktop) or should i just put everything into the iTunes media folder. My main goal here is to recreate my old itunes library with the playlists intact while also having all the songs recognized (none of those exclamation points because it cant locate the file). Sorry to repeat myself but I just want to make it clear because i dont want this to mess up. Should i put all my music into the itunes media folder for it to show up in the old library, or should I keep it in the folders it always was in and just place those folders in the same locations on this hard drive? Thanks for any help
The solution you linked to looks good, but I'm a bit
confused about if it'll work for my situation - I'll
be putting Vista on a new drive (completely clean
install, not an upgrade), which means that iTunes
will be cleanly installed as well. The way I'm
reading it, it seems the solution there needs an
iTunes install that already interacts with the old
library.
Right, and the way you do this is to hold down the shift key while starting iTunes. (Note: this does not mean holding down the shift key while you click on the icon. It means holding it down immediately after that while the program is starting up.) This will bring up a dialog asking what iTunes library you want to use. Point to the old library, and you're in business.
Let me know if this will work: I drag and drop my
whole music folder to the new drive, then in iTunes I
go to File --> Import and import the itl or xml file.
I've heard this might not work because the xml file
has pathways that refer to a specific drive letter
which will be different.
That's correct. You can edit the XML to fix the pathnames, but I wouldn't recommend that unless editing XML is something you do regularly. -
I accidentally removed my iPad from iTunes in the cloud manage devices is there anyway I can restore this?
Hi Eric Ferguson,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For troubleshooting on this, take a look at this article:
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694
Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
Best of luck,
Mario -
I lost my iPhone and its locked is there anyway that they can hook it up to there computer and get access? Also, Apple can help by using my Apple ID number, right?
If there's a passcode on it(good for you!), then whoever stole it can only access your information if they can guess your passcode. However, they would likely get it disabled before guessing correctly, and be forced to Restore it. At that point, your information would be wiped off the device.
And Apple can do nothing to help you, unfortunately. If you did, however, set up "Find My iPhone" before you lost it, then you can track the device. If not, then sorry - you're probably not getting your iPhone back. -
I have redeemed my iTunes giftcard (which was accepted without verification; it only needed my password)
However when I tried to make a purchase, I am required to verify my identity, and thus I cannot use the giftcard which I HAVE REDEEMED. Is there any way I can un-redeem it? I am currently trying to enter all of the possibilities for my questions, and my iPad is new, so the serial number is not registered with my account. According to support, no purchases have been made in my account, so I can't verify my identity through credit card. Please help!~You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.
If you just want to have the card un-redeemed, use the form.
