Because of the price I'm not interested in solid state drives, unless of course you want to send me $1,000.
I've already got external drives but I take my mini back and forth to work and don't want to carry those drives with me.
I'm not interested in buying a laptop. My mini works great so why waste $1,000 or more when I can buy a 1 to 3 TB hdd for under $300 and have exactly what I want. My late 2009 Mac Mini with a large hdd.
I went to Crucial's website and they can't tell me what drives fit my Mac Mini. That's where I got my ram (8GB). I'm ONLY interested in name brand quality HDDs.

The limiting factor in your 2009 mini is the max 9.5mm drive thickness.
One of the largest capacity 2.5" drives that meets this criteria is the HGST (formerly Hitachi) at 1.5GB
Any reputable SATA HDD you can find that is not thicker then this 9.5mm will work.

Most any Thunderbolt, HDMI, DVI, or VGA monitor will work with the new Mini, though many problems exist with the HDMI port it seems.

hi i am currently using a white macbook mid 2009 with 10.6.8 version and i wanted to upgrade it to yosemite? So wanted to know if it would be alright?

    Hi Shubham Nahar,
The system requirements for Yosemite are listed here.
How to install OS X Yosemite on your Mac
Before you install Yosemite, make sure you have one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mavericks, Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8, already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available disk space
I don't have that Macbook, so maybe others can chime in as well.
    Take care,
    Nubz

  • My Mac is a OSX 10.5.8 and i want to upgrade to Lion v10.7.2  Do I have to also get Snow Leopard?  Can the be purchased together?

My Mac is a OSX 10.5.8 and i want to upgrade to Lion v10.7.2  Do I have to also get Snow Leopard?  Can the be purchased together?

Yes you have to purchase Snow Leopard first. Once you have it installed then update it to 10.6.8 using the 10.6.8 Update Combo. Once you have updated and thorougly tested your system then purchase the Lion upgrade from the Mac App Store and follow the on-screen prompts.
At the very minimum make sure your computer meets the System Requirements for Lion and make sure you have all your applications up-to-date. As you may (or may not) know PPC based apps will NOT run under Lion so please check your apps to see that they will run under Lion. Please look at the article link below for instructions on how to tell if they will or not.

  • What printers are compatible with Mac Book Pro's?

    Hi All,
Just looking to buy a printer for my Mac Book Pro but I don't know which ones are compatiable...
Any suggestions or do you know where I can find a list of compatible printers??
    Thanks

A better question is What Printer AREN'T compatible. Older printers mostly. The thing to do is check with the manufacturer, their website, to see if the printer you want to buy has current OS X drivers and or check with Apple support page to list printer that Apple has drivers for.

  • Late 2009 Mac Mini EFI 2.1 Firmware update not needed/already factory installed?

Here has been my issue of trying to figure out if Mac Mini can handle (and fully use) 8GB of RAM with my current EFI version.
I want to upgrade to 8GB on a LATE 2009 Mac Mini that currently has Boot ROM MM31.00AD.B00 and was told to update with EFI Firmware update 2.1 but it does not install saying "This update is not needed on this machine".
I found various contradicting posts saying that I need my Boot ROM to be MM31.0081.B06 or my machine won't utilize the 8GB fully
and will slow down in performance and/or crash after the Apple recommended 4GB.
But here's what I found interesting. Some users have mentioned that the Late 2009 Mac Mini's shipped with updated firmware and don't need this update but could not find a concrete answer as to yes it did ship with it or not.
Apple doesn't even list a Late 2009 Mac Mini as needing a Firmware update in this list of Firmware updates:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237 . Should I just assume that my machine shipped with said update and is capeable of the 8GB? I use this for Logic Pro 9 as a somewhat portable workstation that I can take with me so maxing out the RAM would be ideal for me.
Any help or clarification would be greatly apprishiated,
    Nelson

Actually a Late 2009 can take 8GB of RAM and only the Early 2009 needs the EFI update.

  • I have a late 2012 iMac and a late 2009 mac mini.  I want to know if I can take the 8 GB of ram from the iMac and install it in my mac mini.

I have a late 2012 iMac and a late 2009 mac mini.  I want to know if I can take the 8 GB of ram from the iMac and install it in my mac mini.
According to Cruicial my mac mini could use:
    Module Size: 8GB Kit (4GBx2)
    Package: 204-pin SODIMM
    Feature: DDR3 PC3-8500
    Specs: DDR3 PC3-8500 • CL=7 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1066 • 1.35V • 512Meg x 64
Also According to Cruical my iMac uses:
    Module Size: 8GB Kit (4GBx2)
    Package: 204-pin SODIMM
    Feature: DDR3 PC3-12800
    Specs: DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V
I want to increase the ram in both computers.
So,  can I put the iMac ram in my mac mini and then I'd only have to buy ram for my iMac?  Naturally the ulitmate test will be when I actually install it,  but having an expectation of success or failure will allow me to plan on what to spend money on.
    Thanks,
    Bear

Thanks for the responses.  I probably wont even try as my priority is Ram for the mac mini.  2 is not enough.  8 for my imac is okay for now.
Somewhere I thought I'd heard that faster Ram would simply clock at the lower speed.  It seems that I am incorrect.
    Thanks,
    Bear

  • Where can I get an EU power supply for my late 2009 mac mini

I have a late 2009 mac mini.  The power supply is good for US voltage only.  The new mac mini specs say they can accept 110 - 220 VAC, 50-60 Hz.  Will one of these new power supplies work with my older mini?  Where can I get one, can't seem to locate on the Apple online store.  Moving to France and don't want to leave my mac behind!
    Thanks,
    JSP

you could get something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Energizer-XP18000-Universal-External-Netbooks/dp/B002K8M9H C
it's about the same cost as an extra battery used to be. there's a range of similiar products at Amazon, i'd check reviews.

  • I'm having trouble with installing a 8g kit in my late 2009 mac mini. when the parts are installed all i get is a beeping sound, is there any way to get around this?

i'm having trouble with installing a 8g kit in my late 2009 mac mini. when the parts are installed all i get is a beeping sound, is there any way to get around this?

What is the source & link to this 8 GB kit please?
Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • I have mac air late 2009 model identifier 2,1 running os 10.6. i want to know can i upgrede it 10.8?

i have mac air late 2009 model identifier 2,1 running os 10.6. i want to know can i upgrede it 10.8?

    Upgrading is rather simple.
First you need to enure you have enough free hard disk space. The quickest way to do this is to click on Spotlight (the magnifying glass at the top right corner of your screen) then search for and open an app called Disk Utility. Once Disk utility opens you need to highlight the second item on the left which is called MacintoshHD by default. Then look on the lower right for available disc space is gigabytes. You need a minimum of 8gb available.
Got enough space? Great. Next click on the Apple menu on the top right corner and select "About this Mac" and make sure you are running 10.6.8. If not click software update and install it.
Once you verify you are on 10.6.8 then click on the Apple menu at the top right and select the third item on the list called the App Store. Mountain Lion is on the lower right of the first page that loads. After that you click on the $19.99 then enter you account to continue. I assume you already have an itunes store account so use that for payment. As soon as the charge goes through it starts to download. Its about 4gb so it can take anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours depending on your internet connection speed.
If its going to take a long time you may want to go to the Apple Menu at the top right and select system preferances then Energy Saver on the second line. Then move the slider on the first line all the way to the right so the Mac will not go to sleep during the download. Also be sure to plug in the power cord. Once you upgrade this setting will be retained so when you are done you will need to go back and change this setting, its the same in the newer version.
When its done downloading it will ask you to install. Its pretty simple, you need to enter your Administrator password and agree to the liscense and click next a few times. Be sure to select Macintosh HD and not Recovery HD to install to. I wouldn't imaging the installation taking more than 15 minutes after it is done downloading.
Also if you chose not to install when its done downloading you can do it later. All you have to do is search spotlight for "Install OSX Mountain Lion". The app is in the Applications folder. Also be sure to make a backup before upgrading. It should go through OK but there is always a chance it will not.
    Good luck!
