I've tried to troubleshoot downloading Firefox but it won't open on Windows XP. The Firefox Update box with the hour glass symbol runs for hours. Then I have trouble even shutting down. When I click on Firefox, no window, program won't quit, etc....

Windows XP. I used to use Firefox and it worked okay. I'm not sure why I downloaded a new version but it won't open. The window that says "Firefox Update" continues to try to load. Hour glass symbol, for hours. If I try to click on the Desktop symbol, Nothing. Then when I try to shut down, it's slow, programs won't quit, or it freezes. I've removed Firefox completely and tried downloading again with the same results. Even with the latest version. Shit. Whassup?

Hi zenithtwc, to test whether this is a settings issue, could you do a three-minute experiment?
'''Create a new Firefox profile'''
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
firefox.exe -P
''Don't delete anything here.'' Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like Test731, and skip the option to change the folder location. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
Can it reach the internet?
When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

    Hello there, averypamby.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great information in regards to sharing/exporting your video in Motion:
Motion 5: Export a QuickTime movie
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH16623
Export your project as a movie file
Choose Share > Export Movie (or press Command-E).
Choose an export format from the Export pop-up menu.
This menu provides a list of codecs.
Choose an option from the “Open with” pop-up menu:
Do Nothing: The movie is not opened after the export is completed.
Open with QuickTime Player: The movie is opened in QuickTime Player.
Open with Compressor: The movie is opened in Compressor (if installed on your system).
Choose an option from the Include pop-up menu: Video and Audio, or Video Only.
If you’ve set In and Out points in the Timeline, use the Duration pop-up menu to choose whether to export the sequence or the portion between the In and Out points.
To specify additional Motion-specific options, click Render.
For more information about options available in the Render pane, see Render settings.
To see details about the file to be output, click Summary.
    Click Next.
Enter a name and choose a location for the exported file, then click Save.
Motion renders and saves your movie.
Important:    The Export Movie command does not use background rendering, so you must wait until rendering is finished before you can continue to work in Motion.

  • Illustrator shuts down when I click drag on an object.

It doesn't matter if I open the file in another version... It doesn't matter if I copy out the content and paste into a new file... Illustrator continues to shut down when I click drag on an object. Is this a keyboard issue? Or a program issue? or a combination?
I have plenty of memory on my computer.

After being on Adobe Chat support all morning, we uninstalled and reinstalled the program (outside of the cloud -as re-installing from the cloud produced the same error in the software).
When having this issue, it did not matter what object was selected and moved. It did not matter what file I was in. It did not matter if I created a new file.

  • Computer shuts down when I click on the list or grid display button

I've uninstalled an reinstalled 3 times and instead of the computer shutting down when I start itunes as it was doing, it only does it when I click on the display as a list, grid or cover display button. However it seems to unistall some parts at the same time as I can't open it all afterwards (error message says its not installed). This started to occur after a couple of weeks of non use and when I last used it I purchased songs from itunes. I now have current version but didn't when it first statred to happen. Help!!

Okay ... we'd better have a closer look at the minidumps the PC has been producing to see if they can turn up any additional information on what we're dealling with here.
Open "My Computer", and see if you can find a directory called C:\Windows\Minidump. (That's where minidumps usually go on a PC, so long as the Systemroot hasn't been set to some other folder.)
If it's been collecting minidumps, there should be files in there with names like "Mini(number-numbers).dmp"
(If you have "Hide filename extensions for known file types" enabled in Windows, the ".dmp" extension may not appear on the dump files. The numbers in the file name will be different for each minidump, if minidumps are present.)
Once we've tracked down some minidumps, we can have a go at analysing them.
    1. Download and install the Windows debugging tools from here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/installx86.mspx
    2. Go to Start, All Programs, Debugging Tools For Windows, Windbg
Once you open Windbg, you will presented with a blank screen.
    3. Click on "File > Symbol File Path". Here you will enter the symbols
path. Symbols are needed to effectively debug.
    The path will be:
    SRVc:symbolshttp://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols
    4. Enter in this path and click OK. Now, go to "File > Save Workspace"
so that your symbols path is saved for future use.
    5. Go to "File > Open Crash Dump" and load the file.
(An "Open Crash Dump" screen will appear ... doubleclick "My Computer", doubleclick "Local Disk", doubleclick "Windows", doubleclick "Minidump", and doubleclick on one of the minidumps in there.)
You will/should get a message to save base workspace information. Choose no.
Now you will get a debugging screen. It takes a little bit to run it,
as the symbols have to be downloaded as they are needed.
After the "bugcheck analysis" part of the screen comes up, look for the component that seems to be causing the crash. (It'll say "Probably caused by" ...)
Let us know the precise name of the component. (Include any file name extensions like .dll or .sys.)
If you can, have a look at several of your crash dumps. Are all the crashes being caused by the same component? If not, could you let us know the names of the various components being cited in the various crash dumps?

  • KDE shuts down when I click on a minimized window in taskbar!

    Hello
I'm having this strange problem since I use KDE 4.5.2; if Kwin desktop effects would be enabled (OpenGL), KDE shuts down immediately when I click on a minimized window in taskbar no matter what I do.
First I had this problem in Kubuntu 10.10 and then in Arch (after upgrading KDE), the difference is, in Arch I get this error on screen that probably helps solve the problem or at least find out its origination!
    Here is the screenshot:
    Some information that may help:
    Xorg version: 1.9
    VGA: ATI Radeon HD 5870
VGA Driver: catalyst-test 10.10-999 from AUR
Thanks in advance for your help...

    Thank you for your reply.
I just upgraded Arch (# powerpill -Syu) and along by that KDE also got updated to 4.5.2-2 from 4.5.2-1, but nothing changed, probably got worse; Plasma workspace crashes, screen flickers and background goes black frequently for about 2 minutes after I log in, even if Kwin effects are disabled or enabled via XRenderer.
I said I had the same problem in Kubuntu Maverick where I let Kubuntu download and install ATI proprietary drivers. Are they considered beta also?
Anyways, here is another screenshot after KDE gets killed!:

I think it's more related to Xorg 1.9 or KDE 4.5.2 than the driver (based on my experience with Kubuntu).
This problem forces me to use Gnome for the moment and I'm really upset!

  • Email program shuts down when I click on icon

SSuddenly my iPad won't let me into my email. When I click on the email icon, I get a screen that looks as if it will pull up my emails, but then it goes dark and returns to home page.  I deleted both email accounts, shut down the system, started up again and reinstalled both email accounts, but still get the same result.

    Try to reset the device:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • ITunes shuts down when I click on a song

When I click my iTunes library after my iPod backs up it freezes and shuts down. I manually sync my songs by dragging them across to my iPod but tonight it keeps wanting to verify my iPod, then backs it up. And then when I click on a song to drag it over it just freezes and shuts down. What do I do?!

It also shuts down automatically without the iPod connected so it's just an iTunes problem that whenever I click on a song it will freeze and terminate

  • Windown 8.1 shuts down when I click on Sleep/Hibernate

I  have recently installed windows 8.1 and i have noticed that every time I click on sleep/hibernate, it shuts down the laptop and I loose all my work. Please provide a solution for this.
    Thanks!

every time I click on sleep/hibernate, it shuts down the laptop and I loose all my work.
In my case of this symptom, I think there is a correlation with updating, so if I can remember to, I may try preventing network connections too.  I have also threatened to try using Scheduling to prevent unattended updating.  That was for Surface
RT which explicitly does not allow a simpler GPO solution.  However, now that I have seen the same problem happen on Surface Pro I guess I should at least try the GPO solution on it.  Thanks for the reminder.   ; )

GPEdit finds in  Configure Automatic Updates   "Note: This policy does not apply to Windows RT."
    </quote>
According to Event Viewer there was some kind of automatic updating done on my Surface Pro this morning and some kind of power problems but these details are even more obscure than they were on the Surface RT.  I should probably enable the same "highly
detailed status messages" on the Surface Pro.

  • ITunes keeps shutting down when I click on iTunes store button

I am using Windows 7 Pro with the latest version of iTunes, once I call up itunes it opens fine, plays music fine, updates apps fine but when I click on iTunes store it appears to load then the dredded spinning cursor and BAM! the itunes interface disappears just like Keyser Soze. I have read and ran Autoruns however No 3RD party issuses only the apple and Bloody Windows (I know I need to migrate to a real computer) Thanks for any help with this issuse.

If the store starts to open and then dies, the solution in this thread may work.

Have you tried holding the power button down for several seconds? I would try the force quit as mentioned earlier first, or go to the Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities and try force quit there.
