As I mentioned above, I am not very tech savvy so I have no idea why a wireless protocol would be showing up there, I'm just listing everything I see in hopes that someone might know something I can try. This is why I am asking for help here - I'm not sure what has happened that has made me unable to connect, especially since it seemingly occured while nobody was using the computer.
I guess I should clarify that I'm not a total hillbilly- normally my firewall is set to 'on', but I set it to 'off' to try and troubleshoot the issues here as I was told that sometimes it can interfere with the computer's ability to connect to the internet. If this is not the case and firewall does not affect anything, I will turn it back on while I try to fix this.
I have tried the method you mentioned above a few times - I actually contacted my ISP earlier this week and they recommended resetting the router like that. They didn't mention any known network issues. -
I installed an Extreme in place of an old Express, the various phones and Ipads seem to work on the WiFi but the Mac itself will not connect. It says something about the IP address being used by another device. Second wifi network was also created. The Mac worked for a few minutes and then gaev up citing eth IP problem......any clues people??
If you have not already done so, now would be a good time to perform a complete network power cycle.......to give everything a fresh start.
Power off every device on the network.....computers, printers, hard drives, etc......in any order that you want
Wait a full minute
Start the modem, and let it run by itself for 2-3 minutes
Start the next device connected to the modem and let it run a full minute
Keep starting devices one at a time about a minute apart until the entire network is back up

I had this same problem with my new MBP 15", but only with the USB port on the left side. The USB port on the right side worked fine. Perhaps the ports on the left don't have enough signal energy for the iPhone.
Anyway, try using a different USB port, and if that doesn't work, perhaps you could try a powered USB hub. -
Am unable to install CS5 on mac running yosemite. Tried installing JavaFor OSX, it still doesn't work. Error message reads "inconsistency in the installer database"
remove your caps database. this shows the location for cs3. make the obvious changes for cs5.

Thanks, Bob! You are correct. And, we learned this as we spoke with APPLE TECH SUPPORT by phone on Christmas day (800-APL-CARE). One of their reps spent the time to help us troubleshoot this, but the boiled down conclusion is your answer, and to repeat for the benefit of others, here is what worked:
1. With our Belkin router set to "out-of-the-box" WEP 64 bit security, we could not get wireless access of any kind. Only with the Security Mode set to DISABLED, could we gain access.
2. Changing the router's security mode setting to "WPA/WPA-2...." and entering a new min. 8 char passphrase, and then entering that same passphrase into the IPOD Touch, and restarting the router, did the trick!
Based on this, and some info found in another posting, I can only conclude that the IPODs and IPHONES do not support WEP security mode in many generic routers used by thousands of consumers. Hopefully, those same consumers can figure out how to change their wireless router setttings to WPA/WPA-2 security mode and ALSO get all their other wireless devices (PCs, laptops, WII boxes, ROKU boxes) all reconfigured to WPA mode, too.
I THINK THE BOTTOM LINE HERE IS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE THAT APPLE NEEDS TO ADDRESS WITH WEP COMPATIBILITY and it may also be the case that MOST CONSUMERS ARE USING WEP 64 BIT security on their home wireless routers?
In any case, it's working now, so anyone who is having problems should try changing to WPA mode and post back here if it worked for them! -
I've been working on our church website and all of a sudden this week, my computer will not connect to the site. I keep getting a message saying that the the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can fix this?
The "The connection was reset" error message can be caused by a bug fix for the BEAST (Browser Exploit Against SSL/TLS) attack that the server doesn't handle.

I just purchased a Gigafast WF748-CUI wireless card for my iMac G3 running Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.10) and I followed the instructions exactly and did everything right but it will NOT connect. It keeps generating these weird IP addresses beginning with 168. but my networks IP address begins with 192. I had the same problem with my previous WIFI card on the iMac but it would work eventually. I have been messing with this one for like 2 hours and it has shown no sign of working. I even entered a manual IP address in but still nothing. The program for the wireless card says its connected but it is not (or isnt connected to the right IP anyway). What do I do?Sooo, there's no way the CP has to "Join" a Network? Just says you're connected to 169.x.x.x?
Might try making a New Location in Network CP, turn off all other Ports, the set the IPv4 settings to Manually...
IP: 192.168.0.5
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.0.1
Assuming the Router is 192.168.0.1, but change the 2nd & 3rd digits accorcdingly. -

and make sure that settings->itunes & app stores-> appleId was set correctly

My wifi will not connect. It says I have a 'self assigned IP address'
The ip address starts with 169 and it also says it will not be able to connect to the Internet.
Does anyone have a fix for this?Try to turn off the modem and router. Plug them back in after 1-2 minutes. This worked for me when I got that prompt. If that does not work then try clicking on the diagnose button on the network preferences. The instructions and prompts from there help me 90% of times.

Can you be a little more specific about what are you trying to do? Your issue doesn't seem related to Firefox.
