I want to add music to my Ipod but not change what is already there

I have a new computer with two new HDDs,  The first is a 500 SSD with all my OS and programs.  Then second is a 2TB HDD for my data which includes music pictures etc.
I installed my  new Win8 OS.  Then I installed a number of other programs. I had all my music on a backup drive and  before installing the latest ITunes Install I went thru all my various locations(folders) where I had music.  I realized I had a great number of duplicates and my music was not organized properly so I got things all organized the way I wanted it.  I then installed iTunes and imported all my music.  Well I was not able to get my playlists the way they were before.
After importing all my music to ITunes I am now in the process of rebuilding playlists.
My question is this:  I have an IPod Classic 160GB with most of the old playlists on it and the music in these playlists.  Can I somehow rebuild my playlists into the ITunes library from the IPod Classic?   If not can I just connect my IPod to the computer and thus ITunes and add new media to it without disturbing or loosing any of the playlists or media on it?  If I can't repopulate my playlists from the IPod then the next best thing would be to leave everything as it is on the IPod Classic but be able to remove media and add media to it. I also have  playlists on an IPad Air and an IPhone 5  if that helps.

I am rebuilding my iTunes library, but still have all the old content on my iPod Classic.  I have just download some songs from the iStore and want to add them to the iPod, BUT when I try to sync it asks if I want to delete all content from the iPod and add only the material that I have just downloaded from the Store.  I do not want to lose my old content, because it is very extensive.

You are trying to sync to other than the one iTunes library you can sync to. You can copy music from multiple library/computer if you use the manual method of syncing. That method is described here
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
If you want to make this computer/iTunes library your syncing computer/library you have to restore the iPod on this computer/library. Restoring erases the iPod.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

  • I'm trying tooo add music to an ipod but it wont work!

I'm trying to add music from a cd to my ipod but when I sync the Ipod for the music to go on it ..it doesnt go on my ipod..I tried everything I even called!!!!! HELP ME!

i had the exact same problem and the solution is quite simple rather than taking suggestions like Reinstalling Itunes or something complicated like that. what you do is...
    1) Open up your Itunes
    2) Go to your apple device at the top right corner of the Itunes application on your computer
    3) Scroll to the bottom where it says "Options"
    4) Check all of the boxes.. ACCEPT for the last box that says "Manually manage music and videos"
    5) Double check that the "Manually manage music and videos" are UNCHECKED.
    6) Now retry to sync your music.
HOW TO UPLOAD ALL YOUR MUSIC AT ONCE.
    1) CLICK ON YOUR SONGS TAB WHERE ALL YOUR MUSIC IS
    2) CLICK ONE SONG THEN PRESS "CTRL & A" KEYS AT THE SAME TIME THEN DRAG ALL THE MUSIC TO YOUR DEVICE AND FINALLY SYNC IT.

  • How do i keep music on my ipod but not take up space on my computer?  HELP!

is this possible? i thought there was a setting in iTunes that makes this possible.. but i haven't found it yet. i have an ipod nano and 900 songs being held on my laptop's hard drive is making it run slow.
    can anyone help me?!

You can delete songs from your iTunes/computer hard drive after transferring them to the iPod, and for this you need to set your iPod to manage the songs manually.
However, this is an extremely risky option because when (and not if) there comes a time to restore your iPod, which is a very common fix for iPod problems, then all the music would be erased. If you no longer have the music in iTunes (or any other back up), then all that music would be lost.
What if the iPod were lost/stolen/needed repair? Again, the music would lost. I strongly recommend a back up, and if computer hard drive space is in short supply, you should seriously consider an external hard drive. They are not expensive, and the cost is well worth it when compared to the loss of all your precious music.
At the very least back up your music to either cd or dvd before deleting it, particularly any purchased music/videos, as this would have to be bought again if it were lost. See this.
Backing up your media in iTunes.
Please excuse the sermon, but we see far too many people lose their music because of no back up.

  • HT1495 Can I add music from one iPod to another without losing music on the first ipod

Looking for a way to add music from one iPod to another iPod without losing music on the first iPod ... Please help

iPods are not backups or data transfer tools.
Move the music from the computer where it exists to the computer where you want it.
Then sync the music to the iPod.

i shifted from a windows to a mac.. I want to add songs to my ipod tpuch 4th gen.. but if i try to sync with itunes it says my songs will be replaced by the new songs.. Is there any way that i can have my previous data safe??

Your iPod can only be synced with one computer at a time.  If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, it will replace the contents of the iPod with whatever is in the new library. You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabling the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Before doing anything else,  authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials. Either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.
Then right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.

Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this excellent user tip from another forum member turingtest2 outlining the different methods and software available to help you copy content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Once the backup has been made and all other synced content such as music, videos, and photos are back in your iTunes library, restore your iPod from that backup you made earlier.  Here is more on backing up and restoring your iPod.

  • I want to import music from my ipod into itunes, is it possible?

My old laptop was destroyed, and I lost all of my music with exception of what's on m ipod currently. I got a new computer and installed itunes, but it's not giving me the option to import music into itunes from my ipod. I really want to be able to keep the music on my ipod, but I also have other music I want to add to itunes to add to my ipod later.
I have an ancient ipod classic, so I don't know if it's an issue because the ipod is so old, or if it's operator error because I'm just shy of computer illiterate. Help please!!

    Hey the_deekers17,
Thanks for the question. You can transfer certain media types from your iPod to a new iTunes library. These include music, movies and TV shows that were purchased from the iTunes Store. If you have music imported from a CD or other source, iTunes can’t transfer this media back to a computer:
iTunes: Transferring media from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1209
Music imported from a CD or other source
    - iTunes can't transfer this media back to your computer.
    - Back up your iTunes library or use iTunes Match.
    Thanks,

You should be able to just place them in your Books library in iTunes and check to ensure that your Book library is configured to sync to your iPod when you sync your iPod to iTunes.
