I want to take all my bookmarked sites on my office computer and import them into my home computer...both macs, both have same versions of firefox...how do i do that?

I don't see anywhere to even back up my bookmarked sites....please help

If you want to keep them synced automatically, you should definitely try out [[What is Firefox Sync|Firefox Sync]]. Otherwise, just go to Bookmarks > Organize bookmarks and click the Import and backup button (It's the star with the square arrows in it). Then export HTML, move that file to the home computer and then follow the steps above but choose import HTML.

In Firefox the bookmarks are saved in a database file called places.sqlite in the profile folder. If you have got this file from the external hard drive you can restore the bookmarks by copying this file to your current profile folder. I have a old firefox data file from a computer transfer i did and i want to get all the bookmarked sites i had orginized how can i do this?

so a while back i transfered my old computer files to my new computer and when i did that i tried getting my firefox books marks added when i did it it just made a file old firefox data. i went into it it has the books marks but the problem is it isnt really readable kinda jumbled up and i wanna know if i can import it to my current one or somehow get it organized so i can at least see them apart or on a note pad just each bookmark on its own line? i added a picture of what it looks like

That looks like a JSON bookmarks backup file, from 11-01-2012. Did you try '''restoring''' that file?

Never messed with JSON files other than viewing them on a few occasions out of curiosity. There are no line breaks which make them very difficult to read.
As far as working with that file in {like} NotePad goes:
A. use Find / Search for each indecent of a '''"uri"''' string, then "copy and paste" the uri into another text file, and then move on to the next "uri" string.
B. use a text program where a filter can be set for the "uri" field in the JSON file for a line break or to "scrape out" the "uri"s only for display or export to a list of uri's.
Or try using an online JSON editor like this, to try to display only the "uri" field.

Drag them from where you downloaded them (Like the Downloads folder) and drop them on the iPhoto icon in the dock (little camera with the sunset behind it).
When you drag and drop an image on the iPhoto icon it imports that picture (or many pictures if you drag more than one at once).

Doing this with vanilla AppleScript and the Finder would take too long. There might be a way to do this with unix commands, but probably the best way to this would be to use the built in find for your system. I wouldn't search the whole computer. Maybe just search somewhere in your Home folder. Use a criteria like all files with extension jpg, tiff, tif, etc.. Then you can just drag the found files into whatever folder you want. You need to be cautious because you wouldn't want to move all files. For instance, you wouldn't want to move all pictures in your iPhoto library, other apps, or the System.

I lost all my passwords from the previous version of Firefox when I upgraded to Firefox 4. I have all the files. Is there any way to import them into Firefox 4?

Typically, when I have upgraded a program, all of the bookmarks, passwords, etc. have transferred to the newest version but, for some reason that did not happen with Firefox 4. I still have all my preferences files as they were moved to the trash. Is there any way I can import them back into the new version of Firefox as it is very frustrating to have lost them.

If you used the option to delete settings, or whatever it is worded when uninstalling, Firefox will remove all your important data information from profiles for all installed versions of Firefox, and you will then need luck and a file recovery utility to try to restore the information.
You mentioned files being moved to Trash, I was hoping you may still have the required original files. I use Windows XP, and I realise Macs use different locations for files, but I think the files have the same names.

Note the last article discusses problems when bookmarks are lost, and some of the possible reasons and solutions. Obviously I do not know what has actually happened in your case, and whether or not you used the delete option I initially mentioned.

Moved all my files to my portable hard drive and put them back on my computer but all downloads - music and apps - aren't showing up on my computer

I had a problem where I had to remove all of my picture, movie, and music files from my computer and now that I've put what I moved back onto my computer, I went to sync my iPod and realized that all of my previously downloaded apps and music files are not showing up in iTunes and I haven't been able to locate my apps anywhere. You can transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:

My Vostro is trashed. I salvaged the hard drive and have it in a cage. I was able to save my bookmarks as an HTML file. How can I import them into a new computer? I asked a similar question yesterday and the solution did not work.

I have the original hard drive in a cage (i.e., I can not boot to it or load applications from it). I can access any file on the old drive from the new computer. I have also saved the bookmark file as an html file. I was given a solution to import from the html file that does not work.

I plugged my old drive into an identical Vostro and saved my bookmarks per the instructions. Later, when I check the file, it was in html format. While waiting for the replacement laptop to arrive, I put my old (Vostro) hard drive into a case so I could access the files. I have been able to launch web pages from the file bt accessing them through My Documents so I know the file is good. The problem is, I apparently need to convert them into a JSON file in order to use them. There is a set of instructions on the Mozilla/Firefox website but that method does not work.

I copied my bookmarks from Favorites folder on old computer and pasted them into the same folder, same drive, and they do not appear in the Bookmarks pulldown inside Firefox. Can you help me?

If you no longer have access to that old computer then you can try to import the IE favorites or export the IE favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in Firefox.

You can add a Group in Contacts by clicking the + button that appears when you hover over an account:
You can then drag contacts into that group.
There isn't an easy way to create a contact for every recipient in an email. You have to do it one-by-one.

I've just upgraded to latest version of Firefox 4 and my Mac is only OSX.10.4.11 and it won't open. How do I downgrade and get old Firefox back. Don't want to lose all my bookmarks. Why was I able to install in the first place. Very frustrated!!

You can trash Firefox 4.0 then re-install Firefox 3.6, it will use your existing bookmarks, passwords etc

To see all the photos on the phone, including photos that have already been imported into iPhoto, deselect the "Hide Photos Already Imported" checkbox. If the camera contains photos that have already been imported into iPhoto, those photos are hidden by default.
