I want to use my old iPhone 3GS as an Ipod. Nothing is working?
I'm tired of wasting battery on my iPhone 4 to listen to music, so I wanted to use my old iPhone 3GS as an iPod. I read you had to have a sim card inserted in the phone, regardless if it's activated. So I put the old one inside, but when I connect it to my computer, it won't charge, or sync with iTunes. It's definitely not my charger because both of my phones charge in a wall outlet, and my iPhone 4 charges through the computer. Just not the iPhone 3GS.... I'm going on vacations with long car rides and would like to use this. Help please!

I read another post where you can use an old sim card to activate it but when i did it said it canot be used to be activated. Im not sure becuase it was a cingulair sim card. Can i just use my current sim card then just take it out?

Get a sim card. Borrow one from a friend. Ask the wireless
carrier the iPhone is locked to for a sim - it does not have

Another thing to remember is the phone is actually usable for 911 calls and maybe others. Not a real good idea. Especially for a child.

The Kindle reader requires iOS 7. If you have an older version of it you can still install it, but if you don't there is no way to get the older version.

Nope. I've already turned off cellular data. It happens regardless, as soon as it is done powering on.
I suspect it might just be built into the phone's firmware to do that... and I have to hit "ignore" whenever it happens, but I just wanted confirmation of that... -

Thanks for your prompt response, however I have first seen it now. I have placed an active SIM card in the iPhone turned it off and on. It now says SIM locked, please write access code. The problem is I don't remember the password. When I connect it to iTunes it tell me that I have to write the password before it can be used with iTunes...... Do you have any good ideas? I see you are from the NYC area.... used to work there back in the early 90´ Those were good days..... What a City -

Edit: You'll need a SIM card from the carrier it is locked to. Doesn't have to be an activated SIM card but needs to be in the phone to re-activate it. If you don't have one, ask you carrier if they have a deactivated one you can use. -

you have access to apps that you've downloaded as soon as you log into your apple id in settings > itunes and app stores. it has nothing to do with SIM cards
