I would like to download my iTunes library onto a mac mini running OS 10.4.11 (and iTunes version 9.0.2), or transfer it from my macbook air, running OS 10.7.5. Tried downloading direct from iTunes and file sharing, but neither is working.
Hello apple support community! I'm trying to download my music purchases from iTunes onto my old Mac Mini. It runs OS 10.4.11 and doesn't have the capacity to upgrade to a newer OS. When I ask iTunes to check for available downloads, it says there are none. I have tried updating the iTunes software (version 9.0.2) but it can't connect to the server, even though I am on a wireless network. I've tried using home sharing and file sharing with my macbook air, but neither are working. Grateful for any suggestions!! The only thing I really use this mini for is music, so really hoping to be able to get my music purchases on there. Thanks.
Thanks, Jim, for taking the time, but the reply is unfortunately vague in the exact area of my confusion! "you need to copy that file to your new computer..." Well, the Import/Export instructions make it seem as if the two computers should be able to communicate this file thru wifi, but that's the linkage I can't seem tocreate with Import/Export. Should I instead email a copy to myself (thats what applecare suggested)? Copy it to and from a thumb drive? But then place the file where? And the article was helpful, but should I be trying to move the Library file or the Library.xml file (as iTunes Help suggests)? Sorry to be so clueless about it...I suppose I buy Apple in the hopes of not having to think about this stuff, which approach seems not to be serving me well. Thanks again for your time!

I moved to Mac from a Windows machine where I had downloaded all of my CDs into iTunes. When I got my Mac it only put my purchased items into my library. So I merged my windows library and it created a whole new user account with that on it. I now have two libraries and can only sync music with one account or I lose all of my imported CDs. Help! How do I merge them.
The easiest way is to get both computers on your home network and copy the files over the network. It's easier than you think
Check this earlier thread:
[How do I move my itunes library to new computer|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7937172]
That thread mentions Target Disk Mode, which won't help moving from a PC to a Mac. But you can use file sharing to copy the files.
As the articles all say: don't forget to de-authorize your PC before you get rid of it. -
Syncing Numerous Devices with iTunes Library on a Mac Mini
My MacBook Pro ran out of space, so I bought a Mac Mini with a 750 GB Hard Drive to store all of my music and photos (the Mac Mini is acting as a Media Center). Anyway, I wish to use this library to sync with my iPad and iPhone--BUT THROUGH MY MAC BOOK PRO. After I moved my iTunes and iPhoto libraries to the Mac Mini, I then used the 'Option' key to select the relocated libraries when I opened iTunes and iPhoto on my MacBook Pro; everthing appeared to work fine, but...
Here's my problem: If I'm actively running iTunes on my Mac Mini (watching a movie or listening to music) or iPhoto, I will get an error message on my MacBook if I try to open the same library. It will also give me the option to create a new library, which, of course, I don't want to do. In my mind, this is no different than sharing a library, but apparently this isn't the case.
Any ideas on how I can optimize this configuration?
Thanks for your help!

We have several portable devices and a mini mac on our system and have found that if we delete an email on one device it is removed from others.
We don't want this, but at the same time we need to keep our devices clear of clutter.
It was suggested that switch off the sync mail switch in settings - Icloud, but this only works on IPads & Ipods
anybody got any better ideas ??We have several portable devices and a mini mac on our system and have found that if we delete an email on one device it is removed from others.

It's my understanding that TimeMachine intelligently backups computer system onto an external hard drive and keeps the backup up to date. Currently my MacBook Air is almost out of memory, so I was hoping to move all of my pictures and music to an external hard drive via TimeMachine and then delete the files from my laptop. As TimeMachine continues to backup my computer over the weeks and months after, will it see that the files are no longer on my computer and then delete them from my hard drive? I just don't want to lose the music and pictures I'm deleting in order to make more room.
Time Machine won't delete them from the backup drive until it runs out of space, but other things can. Put them on a second external drive and set Time Machine to back it up as well.

I am trying to enter OPM/E-QIP Application but am told browser is not recognized, to go to: tools, options, advanced, encrytion, enable, SSL3.0 and TLS 1.0. How to get to Tools?
Here's what OPM says to do to configure Safari, if that's the browser you're using (sort of; their instructions wouldn't get you where you need to be with Safari 5.1.7:
1) Select Safari, then Preferences from the menubar.
2) Click Advanced
3) Click the check box next to "Show Develop Menu in the Menu Bar"
4) Close the Preferences window
5) Select Develop from the menubar
6) Select User Agent, then "an appropriate browser" (OPM's words); they suggest Firefox for the Mac
This information came from their Quick Reference Guide (other than correcting an error about how to set the user agent), and I haven't tested it. If this doesn't work, you probably need to ask OPM (or their contractor) how to use the site with a Mac ...
Good luck

Can't move iTunes library onto external drive?
I am trying to clear some space of my MacBook Pro's internal hard drive by moving my iTunes library onto an Mac-formatted external drive. I have followed to the letter the instructions of the Apple document (setting external HD as location of new iTunes library, then selecting Advanced/Consolidate Library).
The process continued for a bit before it crashed and said, "Copying Music failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I had noticed that the error occurred when trying to copy a file that had the "#" symbol in its name. Typically, that character is only a problem with Windows, and I both disks are Mac OS. Nevertheless, I found that the song file in question was a duplicate, so I deleted it and tried again. This time, I got the error message right away!
I have installed all updates, repaired permissions, and can see no reason for this to happen. I have Googled the error message and found a lot of references to this happening when copying to an iPod, but I am moving my library to an external HD.
Please help! My internal HD is running out of space! That was it! Thanks! During the straight-up copy of the iTunes Music folder, the operation crashed because "some data could not be read or written." Had the iTunes error message been similar, I would have known that was the case.
Currently, I am running an additional copy of the library using the ditto terminal commmand, so I can see a list of all the corrupt song files. So far about 15.
Thanks again!!!! -

ITunes WILL NOT launch.Hello, hillbent.
Thank you for the question. If you have verified that iTunes 11.1 is installed, you will need to rebuild your iTunes library file. Below, I have included the article that walks you through this process. Start with the section labeled Re-creating the iTunes Library file.
