I would like to learn more about using the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite. I really don't know much about it nor do I know anyone who uses it yet. Is it specifically for creating apps for tablets? What about smart phones? We sometimes produce PDF publications that are posted to our website. Can DPS be used to produce more interactive online publications? What is a .folio application? What platforms are .folio apps used on?

Using Captivate Quizzes in InDesign with the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite

I am trying to create interactive quizzes that I can just drop into InDesign when producing ebook apps using the DPS. Ideally, I'm looking for a quiz generator that has a choice of question types and a input interface to enter the question details, much like that found in Adobe Presenter.
I'm not a Captivate user but I downloaded the trial version, built a simple quiz and published it in HTML5 format. I unchecked the box so that the timeline isn’t shown during the quiz. Since I’m not really familiar with Captivate, this might seem like a stupid question. Is there a way of not showing the initial screen with the play button and timeline at the bottom, so that the user would just see the first slide of the quiz in the publication? I also see the timeline on the Results slide. Can I turn that off?

Hi John,
If you are using HTML5 output, the play button would be there as per design, and you would be required to click on the same.
You can disable the timeline, if you mean the playbar at the button by Project -- Skin Editor and uncheck to disable the playbar from project.

Hello to everyone,
I'm intrested of using the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite in my work and i have a few questions.
First of all, I want to make some newsstand application for apple and then for android. I got about 5-6 different magazines that each one maybe can publish 5-12 issues annualy.
In which license can i use the software for as many as magazines i want (that means e.g. 10 apps, each one for each magazine)?
What is the cost for that?

You can either purchase DPS professional or enterprise edition. In both edition you can create ios including newssatand and android apps.
Professional Edition is available as an annual agreement or a month-to-month subscription.
Professional Monthly subscription purchased through the Adobe store will cost US$495.

There are two ways to address Still Image Duration. One is global, and applied before Import. One would determine the approximate Duration desired, go to Edit>Preferences>General>Still Duration. Then, all Stills Imported will have that Duration (as will Titles, and New Items, like Black Video).
Once that general Duration has been set, one can still, and on an Image by Image basis, click + drag on the Still Image's Head, or Tail, to adjust the Duration. When doing that, I like to have the Info Panel open and visible, to see exactly what Duration I have changed to.

Has anything happened like an update to Digital Editions?
Two possibilities come to mind:
between them they are the answer to a large number of ADE problems, but I can't promise they will help in your case.
Also, a third possibility at the bottom.

Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.
Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.
In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people. Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1). Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

While doing some research, i came across some nice Adobe softwares like Adobe Muse and Adobe Edge Animate.
Which one would you recommend me to learn and master? I have also been looking at Adobe After Effects and it seems to be very nice too. I know it's mainly for those in the cinematographic industry but I think it might be useful for me to have some kinda knowledge about it, especially for making some Intros and animations for logos. What do you think about it?

After Effects is excellent for doing motion graphics. However, it's a pretty powerful program - thus hard to jump into and learn. Start here if you want to learn it: Getting started with After Effects
I would suggest you focus more on the software that does what you want to do (web) and leave After Effects for doing video work.

Before I buy...I would like to know more about X-Fi

Well?I been thinking of buying the Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro instead of using my onboard sound. But I started to read on other fourms and product reviews and its about half split between on using a digital optical connection. I have these speakershttp://www.klipsch.com/products/deta...gmx-d-5-.aspx??(copy and paste)and I tried using all other connection that it has and they all gave very poor sound quality, all except when I went and bought a? digital fiber optical cord then it improved 0%. But when I went to make my back speakers louder I can not adjust any of the speakers.:smileysurprised: In fact I really can't control anything! So then I tried using the other connection?and I could controll the front right and left but had?poor sound and still not being able to control the others. So my question is if I buy this sound card will it fix all my problems like not being able to control each speaker?speakers? Another thing sense I have this hub will it even work with a sound card like this or (last resort) would I just be better off buying a new pair of speakers and this sound card (really don't want to get new ones?saying these are only 2 months old)? Wait until a PCIe Version of X-FI hits the market. Dont buy a PCI X-FI now. This card isnt worth the price in a new system because of SCP and many problems. Even if this card is working in your system perfectly, in Windows Vista there are many problems to solve for creative, especially Directsound is a missing factor in this OS which isnt adressed now. Alchemie is working, but it is not a solution for every game, and it looks like "patching" but not solving an issue. Creative is not to blame for this, but i think with a new PCIe X-FI creative will make a step ahead. I hope they will! I hope Microsoft will include Directsound again. I remember there was a similiar situation with WinXP and OpenGL. but implementing OpenGL is easier, because it requires?only a DLL file. I have too add that my X-FI is running fine in most ways, i can produce SCP with my SCSI controller, but i dont use this thing in normal way. I would like cut out an object using the quick select tool and drop the object into another picture. Can anyone help

I am using background pictures and want to cut out objects from other jpegs using the quick select tool and drop them into the background picture. So if i have a banana and select the object i need to copy the banana into the other background.

Select banana. Right click>layer via copy. Move tool. Click and drag to other file. Drop on image.
OR: load the background and banana in one stack (File>Scripts>Load File Into Stack). Select banana and layer via copy or create layer mask.

The call library function require us to define the type of parameter that w are using.The type of parameter in cludes numeric, array, string,waveform and adapt to type.I would like to know more about waveform and adapt to type.

In the labview manual, there is very little mention about the use of waveform.How is this waveform being called and can i have an example to see how this work.
Also in the adapt to type paramete, what does this parameter do and in what circumstances do we need to use it.The manual say something about the use of this parametr.It says that scalar elements in arrays or clusters are in line.For example a cluster containing anumeric is passed as pointer to a structure containing a numeric. What does this statement mean?

I'm going to share my experience with the "Adapt to Type" parameter.
Attached to this message is an example. The attachment is a zip file with three files: a dll, a c file and a vi written in LabVIEW 6. The dll contains a function that return a structure with 3 values (like the coordinates of a point in space, that is, (x, y, z)). You can see how the function was constructed by looking at the c file.
In LabVIEW, I created a cluster with the same three parameters. Then, I configured the call library function following the function prototype as in the c file. For the point variable I use "Adapt to Type".
I hope this can give you a head star.
