Check all the free iBooks Author templates using teh template chooser, - some are text only.
Or edit the preferred template and simply delete the image placholders.
if you come to a placeholder that you cannot delete, open ARRANGE on the menu bar and look at the bottom for UNLOCK. If that does not help, its because the template needs to be changed to make it ( the placeholder) editable on the page.

Or you may obtain iWork '09 DVD package from Amazon online et al. Sold at very low price now. It is really worth it. Don't forget to apply the iWork 9.0.3 updater after intalling it.

What RAID should I use if it will be doing a lot of writing?

First of all, I'm a Photographer who would like to get a Pegasus R6 and I would like to keep all my current work(2 months worth) on the R6 and edit from any of the 3 iMacs I have at any given time. There will be times when all 3 iMacs will be using files for editing in Photoshop at the same time. So I am wondering what is the best RAID to use? Do I just use RAID 1 and have not only it mirrored on the R6 but also run a backup via time machine using a FireWire 800 drive or should I go RAID 0 with only 1 FireWire backup? Is RAID 10 even good for performance wise? I am not concerned about the space as I only plan to have 1TB-1.5TB on the drive at any one time as I rotate my work out. Once it's done and the clients order I offload the files to 2 different drives and store them in 2 different places.
I just want to get the most out of the R6 as possible and am wondering if there will be much of a performance hit if I stick with RAID 1? I do realize 2 of my iMacs will be limited as they will be accessing the R6 via the wired network but the main iMac does most of the work anyways. I just want to be sure that all 3 iMacs opening images and editing images in Photoshop all at the same time when connected to the R6 will be working as fast as they can.

Some processes are critical, but many can be interrupted without any problem.
You can monitor your ongoing processes by going to Applications/Utiltities/Activity Monitor; pay particular attention to Disk Activity and Network. To interrupt a process, highlight the process, and tap "Quit Processes." This will interrupt or stop the runaway process.

You can use iBooks Author and chose a Portrait template. Most templates have some images included.. if you dont need them... simly delete then. The same applies to most Landscape templates. Apple created them mostly for text predominent books, but include images to make them look attractive and functional. Any template can be changed to suit your needs.
An alternative is Pages,   you can create your novel and export it as an ePub, which,   when the other requirements to upload books to the iBooks Store are completed - will be totally acceptable to Apple.
There is also Adobes inDesign, which is more expensive and   to most.. more complicated to use.
As its a text only novel, you can also use MS word to produce your manuscript - like wise pages... and later iBooks Author has the optionto import chapters from both applications. Its also possible to do a simple copy and paste into iBoooks Author, chapter by chapter or all at once. iBAs flowing text pages will be created automatically to hold all your text.
I suggest you decide which application to use, and then spend time, even more so if you settle on iBooks Author,   "playing" with the menu's options and functions BEFORE setting out on your project.

How to change content for serialized novel. ibook author

I am writing a serialized interactive novel in ibook author and want to update content (adding and possibly subtracting text) for the readers. These changes would be triggered either by time since purchasing the book, or by what the reader has read in the book so far. So after 5 days they would find new content on their book. Or they might get to a certain point in the book and then have to wait a day or so for the next episode to appear. Or in the case of an unreliable narrator novel: If the reader looked back at a chapter the reader had already read they would find it had mysteriously changed. What would be the best way of doing this?

While I'm sure an industrious individual could try to edit the templates by hand, there is no promise such code is supported via iBooks 2 on iOS.

You need to have the latest version of iTunes on the computer, version 11.1.3 to be able to handle syncing a newer phone with iOS 7. The iTunes on the iPhone has nothing to do with syncing and is installed by the iOS.
Go to iTunes on the computer, click on Help, Check for updates to update iTunes on the computer, or go to to www.apple.com/itunes/download and download and install the latest version of iTunes to correct your problem.

Launch Keychain Access and click on Login in the left hand pane and then on Passwords. Next do search for Apple in the search field at the top and click on Apple ID Authenicication in the list that comes up. That will give you the ID no. and password.

You don't transfer Apple ID's from one device to another one. You sign out in the settings, )the App Store and iTunes if necessary) and then sign in with the other ID.
Settings>iTunes & App Stores>Apple ID>Sign out. Them sign in with the other ID. You can sign out of the app store and iTunes as well by going to the featured Atab in the App Store and the music tab in iTunes, swipe to the bottom and access the Apple ID in there.
You should have erased the iOad before you gave it to her in Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings. That way she could set up the iPad as new with her own Apple ID.
Be aware of the fact that if you use each others ID's in order to download past purchased content to your own iPads, you will lock yourself out of your own ID as you will have associated your iPad with the other person's Apple ID.
In other words, if you sign into your wife's ID on your iPad so that you can download an app or an album so that you don't have to pay for it again, you will lock yourself out of your Apple ID for 90 days.

You'll need a 2.5" parallel ATA interface hard drive. Most are 5400RPM, forget 7200RPM drives and slower 4200rpm drives. You don't want a serial ATA (SATA) drive, as that has a different connector and won't work.

I've had this happen a few times before. What I found works is repairing the permissions. To do so click on go and then to utilities. click disk utilities. In disk utilities select the drive and click repair permissions. It may take a little time but try accessing after that.
