I16 array to sound output

Anyone who can help,
I am attempting to play a signal to verify the data we have recorded into a binary file.  At present, I have converted the binary data to I16 data and stored each channel into a seperate array for data processing.  However, I would like to 'play' the array using the audio vi's in labview 2009.  Here is what I have...
1)  I16 array
    a) 250k data points representing one second of recording data within the array
    b) recording rate was at 250kHz
2)  I have filtered the data with a Butterworth digital filter and verified the filter with the frequency response curve
Here is what I need:
1)  I need to play the audio using this 'recorded' array.
2)  I need to understand how the vi inputs should be arranged (sound output configure.vi)
    a) sound format (sample rate, number of channels, bits per sample)
    b) number of sample per channel
3) how to format the data to be accepted by the 'sound output write' vi.
As of now, I have attempted to arrange the inputs and configurations as I anticipated they should need to be arranged.  However, this is not working.  If anyone has any knowledge along these lines and willing to share, it will be appreciated.
Thank you for your help,
David

With the express vi, I get the same result.... an annoying buzz.  I am able to save the filtered sound file correctly with Matlab just not Labview.  So, I figure that I have the data bit representations correct since it works in the other program.  Nonetheless, listening to the file would help me verify the filters I am using in Labview and thus remove any speculation.
Unfortunately, I think my troubles are self induced via lack of knowledge.  This is why I was hoping to verify how to wire up the inputs for the parameters of the data I have.  If it is possible to accomplish with the express vi, I am fine with using that as well.
Basically, my program loops around picking off one second of data on each itteration (250k samples).  Then processes the data with filters, sound, trending data, and some correlations.  After several minutes of data are processed the results are then passed into another algorithm that I have developed to show the results based upon the data processed.  The results seem resonable.  However, the only true way to verify the initial processing is to simply listen to it.

  • Can not change sound output. Help Please

Well, i've been digging all the forums lately in web. my problem is, i can't change my 'system' sound output to my sound card which is Native Instruments Audio8 Dj.
Let me explain my problem decently. I do the usual procedure, system preferences > sound > n then select the output. but nothing happens. it is always set on internal speakers or headphone or whatever plugged in to the *Built-in Output*. I try switching from audio-midi setup n that doesn't work as well. The system perfectly recognizes the sound card, i can get output from sound card with applications which have their own output settings. But i cant change the system output. I have the latest version of soundflower loaded(this might be causing the problem who knows), i used many soundcards before(or maybe even ex-drivers?) n they used to work until i updated to snow leopard. I also tried trashing the files in macintosh hd > library > preferences > audio >>
and those files *did not regenerate* after restart(like 10 times), so i had to copy them from my imac.(hehe). i tried resetting pram or nvram.(didn't do any good too)And also i tried trashing soundpref.plist which didn't do me any good neither. Now i need that sound card to give me my system output. I don't need drivers of any other ex-sound cards or whatever. My drivers are up to date. And im pretty sure this ain't an hardware fail.
    So, any ideas? Thx.

I am having the exact same problem. I have spoken with Apple Care and they are having my case reviewed by "Engineers," apparently. Its very frustrating as I cannot listen to iTunes or any of my video games through my really nice monitor speakers. FYI, I had this problem without installing Sound Flower, since then I have installed it in the hopes that having something different to select it might work but no changes. If I hear any good news from Apple I will be back to let you know. This seems to be a very rare problem as I have only found one other post about this issue.

  • The sound output does not work on my ipod

    Hi There,
I have an Ipod 4 th generation and the sound output no longer works on any device.  I've reset and reinstalled the software but nothing appears to work?
    Any ideas please?
    Serial number: 9C6463XJV9R
    Thanks Chris

If none of the 5 R's helped address the issue, it's likely hardware related.

As to what exactly is damaged/faulty, no there is no certain way to tell.  It could be the iPod's audio chip or something else on the logic board.
Either way you'll need to have your iPod serviced/replaced either by Apple or a third party company.

  • Help with sound output via HDMI

My sound output via HDMI suddenly stopped worked to my TV set. I've reset the PRAM and the SMC. When I go to sound control panel for sound output, the setting is on Headphones. When I try to change it to SV420XVT1A (the tv) it immediately jumps back to headphone. I also tried a different HDMI cable to a different HDMI port on the tv. This just started after the Mac Mini had been turned off for a week. I'm using Lion and it's an 8GB Intel Core 2 Duo. Any suggestions?

I actually discovered this answer about 5 minutes after I posted the question. Thanks a lot for your help!! Funny thing is that it had worked all along with something plugged in the headphone jack but suddenly stopped working. Again, thanks!

  • No sound output to TV using Apple dock - video is fine

I'm baffled. I have a new 80GB iPod Classic, a brand new Apple dock, and Apple A/V Component cable. When I watch a video or photo slideshow, everything works great. However, when I want to listen to my iPod's music through my TV's speakers, using the same setup, there is NO sound output to the TV at all. Why would the audio play when watching photos or video, but no sound when all I want is music? Please help!

I haven't personally had this problem, but I believe in order to hear music through your TV speakers, you have to use the headphone port instead of the AV cable.

  • Is there a way to force A Mini to recognize the HDMI as a sound output.

Is there a way to force the Mac mini to recognize the HDMI as a sound output?  I have the HDMI going through a matrix switch and the video works fine but the audio is not recognized.  My Apple TV has no problem with both audio and video through the same set up to a tv.

    Some general checking:
Open System Information found in Applications->Utilities.
On the left side under hardware, click Audio.  In the right
pane, Expand items if necessary to reveal the contents and
see if there is an HDMI listing.  If so, click on it to get additional
    info.
Also, have you connected the Mini directly to the TV?  Narrows down
if it is actually the Mini or just how the Mini is working with the
    switch.
Another possibility is that there is a power up sequencing issue.
Ran into a situation with my Yamaha receiver, Mini, and Samsung TV
that if things were not powered in the right sequence I could only
get two channel audio and sometimes only internal audio.  With my
setup, I needed to power up the TV (waiting for it to come up completely
showing the searching for signal box), power up the Yamaha, then finally
power up the Mini.  Also, after all this, if anything was switched, I would
end up having to reboot the Mini to get audio the way it should be.

  • Sound output channel keeps switching by itself every few seconds

Hey guys, I have this sound output issue with my Macbook pro 2010 September version that every once in a while, the audio output would keep swapping between headphone, digital output and the speakers when NO headphone or digital output or what so ever is actually plugged in. During this time i am unable to adjust sounds, and my menu bar would become very slow to respond (the sound icon and Soundsource application would stop responding during this time). After a while (could be less than 10 minutes or last to about an hour, it varies), it returns back to normal by itself.
I've read many posts on Apple forum about this issue, but i haven't found a suitable solution. Also, I read that for most, when the audio output doesn't work it would usually be a output socket issue that there is a RED light in the socket. But for me, at times it has a RED light, at times, it doesn't, and sometimes the RED light would switch on and off by itself for a couple of times, depending on how long this issue lasts until it returns to its normal state by itself.
    I have tried:
    1. plugging the headphone into the socket and take it out quickly
    2. Downloading Soundsource: i heard that Soundsource has an option of manually adjusting the sound output channel instead of letting the computer switch automatically, but unfortunately I downloaded the latest (2.5) version of the software and it doesn't have that option on my macbook pro.
    3. I also tried Cmd + Opt + P + R
The result however is that none of this worked.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have both and haven't experienced this at all. Very strange. I do get a lot of random channel changes however when I put my iPad on the remote, the cat walks over it or the dog sits on it.
That being said, I don't use the Samsung remote at all for the TV and never have done. I dislike it and find it unresponsive. I use a different remote to change through the available outputs and the Vision remote for Vision and for switching the TV on and off.

  • Assigning an application to different sound outputs

Question: Is there a way to assign an application to use a sound output options in the mixer or another Win7 application?
I have installed Win7 RC 32bit.  I have headphones and speaker outputs on my system.  Both are detected and both can be assigned to a working default sound choice.  I am unable to assign an applications sound output to a certain outputs or change them.
The only way I can make a sound application work through the speakers if the headset is assigned the default role is to go into sound management, then assign the speakers to default and then restart my application.
Desired: I would like an application profile to default to the assigned role from the mixer.  The settings could be permanent or temporary.  If the 1st choice is not available, use the alternate working or (default).  The sound should dynamically change or at the very least keep that profile with that application until changed.
In the mixer, I should be able to rt click on the application in the mixer and manually assign it to a sound device.  This option should be assigned to a default target to play ONLY if the desired is not available.  Possible options can be, just one time, or have this device handle sound if available.
Hardware:  Asus Rampage 2: Gene motherboard, 6GB Ram, GTX 275 graphics, Seagate 1.5TB.  Drivers auto discovered on install and appear to be functional.

    Hi TKCDAC,
As you may noticed, great improvements have been made in Windows 7. Applications can realize Stream Routing via the new Core Audio APIs. Windows 7 has the ability to distinguish between communication devices and all other audio devices. It is now possible to have both a Default Communications Device that is separate from the Default Audio Device. The Default Communication Devices will be used for PC based communication like web chat or VOIP, and the Default Audio Device will be used for everything else. Stream switching enabled dynamic stream switching based on the default device. If the default audio device is disabled or unplugged, Windows automatically tries to determine the next default audio device and will dynamically redirect the audio to that new device.
For instance, if you would like to play the audio via headphone when using communication applications such as Windows Live Messenger, we can simply right click the volume icon in the system tray, click Playback Devices, right click the headphone listed and then choose Set as default Communications Device.

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd756612(VS.85).aspx
    http://louisgale.blogspot.com/2009/08/live-messenger-and-default.html
Also, based on my test, certain application such as Windows Media Player has a sound output option. To change the settings, please open Windows Media Player, click Tools, Options, click Devices tab, double click Speakers in the Devices list, pull down the Select the audio device and then choose the device you would like to play the music from Windows Media Player, click OK. We may play another song in the play list to take effect.
In the meantime, I will forward your suggestions to our Product Group. Please be assured that any improvements in the product are based on users' requirements.
    Thanks,
    Linda

  • No Sound Output but Still Loaded

Hi guys, this is my first journey with Arch Linux and this introduction process has been fairly trouble-free with the exception of getting my sound system working.
Right now I'm running a Macbook Pro 6,2 (Mid 2010) with two audio devices: 1) an Intel integrated card(labeled=MID) and 2) a Nvidia HDMI card(label=NVidia). Since I'm not using any HDMI outputs, I'm trying to get the Intel card to output sound but it seems like nothing I do is working. I've combed through both the wiki pages on ALSA and the Macbook#Sound configuration section but so far, it's a no-go. According to /dev/snd, the sound modules are indeed loaded. "speaker-test" has no problem running but there's no sound output. I've tried muting and playing around with volume levels in alsamixer. Right now, I'm guessing that I might have missed something with my .asoundrc? I'm not entirely sure.
Here's all the relevant information...forgive me if I missed anything.

If someone could lend a hand, I'd greatly appreciate. I know that it can get working since it was working out of the box flawlessly on an Archbang install but I wanted to do things the right way, The Arch Way, this time around.

    Hi
I have a similar setup with AMD/ATI devices. Try to set the order of the soundcards (Alsa#Set_the_default_sound_card): Look up your "vid" and "pid" values with "lspci -nn" and change the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf to:
    # SB [HDA ATI SB]
    options snd-hda-intel index=0 model=auto vid=1002 pid=1308
    # HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI]
    options snd-hda-intel index=1 model=auto vid=1022 pid=780d
...or something like that. After that my soundcard worked but the sound quality was poor (no bass).
    Hope this helps.

In case anyone has had the same problem as me, I have just managed to fix this by doing the following:
    Switch off Mac
Switch back on in Safe Mode (Hit power button, then hold Shift key until a loading bar appears at the bottom of the screen).
    Switch off Mac again
Remove power cord and wait 15 seconds
Plug power cord back in and hold down the keys alt, cmd, p, r all at the same time until you hear Starting chime for a second time and hopefully your audio will back.

  • How to change sound output?

    Howdy
I recently bought a high-end toslink cable which I connected from the optical/digital out from my iMac to my receiver. The sound quality is excellent, however I noticed that all sounds now gets passed to my Hifi system all the time. The only way (I could find) to route sound to the internal speakers is by physically unplug the cable. This is really not workable in the long run as it wears down the plug and, not to mention, my patience...
So, anyone know any way to switch output to internal speakers w/o having to unplug the cable? Or is there another approach (I'm thinking Airport Express)?
    /Cheers

Unfortunately, you cannot select +Internal speakers+ in System Preferences Sound pane Output tab, if you have something plugged into the audio output port.
If you got an AirPort Express, its AirTunes feature would certainly work for iTunes output. However, I believe AirTunes would only play the output of iTunes. So it would work great as long as you were only playing songs and videos using iTunes, because all other sounds will come from your computer speakers. No need to change any setting manually, after you are done listening over the stereo system. However, it would not work so great, if you wanted the audio output of some other programs to be played from the stereo system; but there seems to be a third-party solution for that issue
    http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/
If you have separate powered computer speakers that connect using a standard mini-jack, one alternative is to get a USB (or possibly FireWire) sound output device (if you want to be able to change the sound output setting manually). The least expensive one may be the Griffin iMic.
    http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic/
It provides a second sound output port over USB, so it should show up as a separate choice in System Preferences Sound pane Output tab. Therefore, you should be able to use the Sound preference pane to manually switch the sound output from you stereo system to the computer speakers connected over the USB iMic.
