Iba only opens new blank docs not previously worked on .iba filess
This morning I tried to open an .iba that I was working on, the file hung for a long time so I had to force quit. Did this a few times same thing then I restarted the Mac and got the same thing.
So I re started again and tried to open a template and it opens fine so no matter what .iba file ( that I created - there are at least 10 on my drive) none of them open and hang the app.

Figured this out .iba file was corrupt

I can only open to-days downloads not previous items, why not all of them?
When using downloads I can open all current day items but when attempting to open any prior downloads then I get no response.
Are you trying open from the Firefox download manager ?
Because maybe you changed the directory of the download or you can transfered the file to other folder, try go to the download folder and open through there -
When opening a new tab, IE9 opens a blank page, not the new tab page
I change my settings to open a the new tab page when I open a new tab. This works for one boot of Windows. Second boot, the settings have magically changed back to opening a blank page.
It worked to start with. I only just reinstalled Windows on this computer. Then a few days ago I didn't get my most recent sites when I opened a tab. Changed the settings. Next boot. They had reset.
It seems as if the settings do not save. I had this problem on my older computer as well. Never found a fix.

Generally, this issue will not persist after reinstalling the Windows.
I would recommend you to perform the steps mentioned below and check if it helps:
1. Temporarily disable all the third party security programs and boot in
Clean Boot to test the issue.
2. I would suggest you to optimizing the internet explorer for better performance and check if it helps.

Can not open new blank tab window from file, new tab.In Tools/Options/Tabs I have ticked open new window in new tab?
The Ask Toolbar is probably causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13 version. Disable that extension or un-install it.

I click on a link, and get a new blank page, not the info expected. I use AVG Free Edition, Windows 7 Professional. I have tried "open link in new tab" - no joy. Not all links are affected. It is not possible to say when a link is going to fail or work - it seems random.

My iMac 27"(late 2009), Audio in/Optical digital audio out port, stopped recognizing my new Bose speaker system, previously working through that port. I tested the speaker system through my iPhone, and it works fine. I hooked it up to the Headphone out/Optical digital audio in port, and it works through that port also. I did a computer restart, I also checked all wiring and did a system repair on the computer. I also restarted the computer in mode where I could use the system utility, and the computer still did not correct the matter, and it reported everything as being "ok". I wented into "sound", through system preferences, and the computer does not recognize anything I plug into the Audio in/Optical digital audio out port. When I plug the speaker sysytem into the headphone out/optical digital audio out port, it does recognize the Bose speaker system as being "headphones".
Reading through a lot of forums, I hear everything from compatibility, to the port being stuck, and on and on. Since the port was working before, and just quit working one day, I wonder if there is a capacitor or fuse or some type of similar thing is blown, and causing the port to be unfunctionable. Maybe the port went bad, but before this time, I had never used it, and the computer does not move around, and I never plug in and pull wiring out unless needing to, and that being rare.

By the way, I am running OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5). I upgraded to Mavericks about a month ago, and expeirienced a number of issues, and had to take my iMac into Apple. Talking with the tech, I decided to wait for a while more before I upgraded to Mavericks. I try and keep the computer maintained.
If any of you have any ideas regadrding wear and tear, and fix I can do, etc., besides having to take my computer into Apple? Thank you, and potentially all of you, for your time and effort in helping me with this issue. Thank you kindly.
davEOkay, davE, first, you have posted in the "Mac Pro" forum (not Macbook Pro), so we can't be super helpful
but we help you. First, hold down the Option key while clicking on the speaker icon at the top of your screen. This should show you all the inputs and outputs you have. you could check in "About this Mac" then "More info" to see whatever's recognized. Then, maybe, fire up Audio MIDI. your speaker system should show up there. something might have gotten set incorrectly. You can test it there. I guess you are using the good ol' analog cable for connection, and it works on your iPhone, so the cable isn't bad. You could try this. it 's an adapter which might solve your problem

Spotlight/Finder only searching "new" spotlight comments not old ones
I have a bunch of files on my external hard drive that I had taken several hours to "tag" with spotlight comments a few months back. I tagged them so I could quickly find them in Finder or Spotlight by different key words and not just file names or their contents (folders wouldn't work because the keywords overlapped many of the files. Plus folders are slow). It worked beautifully. Until I stopped adding tags for those 4 months until now.
I hadn't been using my comments at all in the past couple of months, but i had some files that I hadn't tagged so I decided to take the time to tag all the new ones. While testing to see if the comments worked, I noticed an extreme shortage of results, compared to the results i had for the same key words 4 months ago. I noticed that only the newly tagged files were showing up. I immediately checked the old files to see if the comments were still there and there they were. I restarted my MacBook Pro, thinking that maybe it was because I hadn't done so in the past few days. I noticed the little dot in the lens of they eyeglass and thought "oh boy! it'll reindex everything!" but it only indexed "new" files of course.
So my question is: "*How did this happen?*" But more importantly: "*+How can I fix it?+*"
I've thought that forcing spotlight to reindex my entire external hard drive would do the trick, but I cannot find any means to achieve that goal. Plus, I would rather just be able to index the files within one folder as I wouldn't have to wait an entire day of sluggish performance for that. Any ideas?Let me start with the "easy" question first: the .DS_Store files are where "Finder information" is stored. Windows users find these things a pain in neck, and usually insist they be deleted. Most of time this isn't a problem, the Mac users just get annoyed when their folder doesn't open the way it was when last closed--the principle information stored there is the view the folder was told to keep, the size of the icons and their arrangement, and so on. Every time you open a folder a .DS_Store file created if one does not already exist, and if one does the file will be updated if you change your settings for the folder, for instance switch it to List view, tell it to always open in List view, with columns for Date Modified, Size, but not Kind or Date Created. And it also keeps the information entered in Spotlight Comments. Just how Finder preserves this information if a file is moved, in Mac OS, to another folder, I don't know. But it does.
What we REALLY need is a nice little program to write to the metadata of the file. For instance, Spotlight will index keywords, which are stored in the file itself, as part of the file's metadata. I mainly work with graphics, and Photoshop allows you to add keywords to the file's metadata. Apple's iPhoto and Aperture will also add keywords, but they are not written to a file's metadata until you export them. PDFs can also have keywords assigned, you can even do it with Preview. Text documents can also have keywords added using some (most?) text editors, including TextEdit (provided the file is in RTF format). The nice thing about keyword metadata is that it goes with the file, and be accessed in any OS that allows a metadata search.
Unfortunately I don't know of any program that would allow you to select a batch of miscellaneous files and add the same keyword to all of them. It would certainly be handy though.

Why does caps lock on every time I open new blank page
Every time I open a new blank page, the Capitalization switches on. It doesnt happen with the other pages I choose. Just the blank document page. This annoying habit continues as I start a new line, and sometimes the underline and Bold format pops on also. I have to keep going into the format header and keep switching them off. After a lot of experimenting, I believe this malfunction is what is screwing up my uploads to the web, by messing with the script. Has anyone encountered this problem or know how to fix it? It only happens with the darkroom template blank page which is the one that my site is built with. I've tried clearing the cache, rebooting ect.

Message was edited by: kelly12The first two text boxes in the Darkroom page are all caps. But any new text box will be both upper and lower case. It's designed that way. If you want to use lower case then delete those boxes and add new ones in their place.
You can try reinstalling iWeb but I don't think it will help. I'm on a new iMac and that's how the Darkroom theme works on all the pages. The top text box and the next one down.

When I try to copy text, Ctrl+c opens new blank Firefox tab instead... how can I fix this?

Right-click > Copy still works to copy. Ctrl+T still works to open new tabs (with my selected homepage, as per the My Homepage plugin).Further testing reveals: the problem is NOT Integrated Gmail.

does not open tabs by hitting the + or by selecting file, open new tab. i am operating under mac os x software and have updated firefox twice now with no resolution to this issue.
Many users have discovered this problem (in Firefox 30 and higher) is caused by Conduit add-ons, such as a Conduit plugin and/or a "Community Toolbar" extension.
You can check for and disable extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Command+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
(1) In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential plugins to "Never Activate".
(2) In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Does that help with the "+" button? If so, could you name the specific plugin/extension that caused the problem? -
Opening new tab does not display my home page by default, what setting do I change to achieve this?
When selecting the open new tab option, in the past, the tab opened displaying my designated home page. It now opens displaying a YAHOO! search page. My home page settings have not changed and continue to display the correct address, selecting 'home' brings up the correct home page, at any time during browsing. Is there another location where this 'invalid' new tab address might be listed, and removed or reset ?

Trying to open local files(gif, html, swf etc) with Firefox only opens a blank window.
Currently on FF33.0.2
I used to open gif and swf files(also doesn't work on saved html files) on my local hard drive with Firefox just fine before by just manually double clicking the file and FF would automatically run it just fine.
Now it only opens up a new window in the startup page.
Any other browser(Chrome, IE) that I use to open them works.
Also, I can manually force FF to run the files by dragging or using the [Open] command in the menu bar but then it's much more convenient if it runs them automatically by clicking the files themself.Try to redo the default browser setting and temporarily set another browser as the default browser.
