IBook from iBook Author to iPhone...?

I want to make a few of my iBooks available on iPhone. I've made them using iBooks Author and they are clearly formatted for iPad. Does iBook Author output file types that can be read on iPhone? If not, can anyone recommend a method to take iBook content to the iPhone?
Thanks in advance~

You can output PDF or just text for use on iPhone....assuming you're not talking about the store.
Otherwise, an .ibooks file will only target a compatible iPad, sorry.
If you car to do the rework, you can repurpose your content to a Pages or InDesign standard epub, which will work on both iPhone and iPad via iBooks. And yes, it's not a straight path....kind of a backwards path, actually
It may be best to author first in Pages so you have the wider standard epub distribution channel, and then consider doing an iBA release as a follow-on.

  • Downloading iBooks from iBooks Author

I crested an iBook in Author and was able to dowload it to my iPad - but not to my iPhone. Is there something extra that needs to be done in order to get the book on the iPhone?

Any documents/agreements are obtained as part of a contract and not allowed to be distributed in an otherwise uncontrolled manner, which if done, could violate the agreement/contract.
You need to participate in the process to:
    1. Access the latest, binding versions of all agreements/contracts
    2. Possess a tax id/SSN to sign up.
If you have questions about the process, you should contact Apple directly.

  • BUG: can't download multiple iBooks from same Author, workaround found

    Hello,
    Symptom:
We created ~12 iBooks (files) but the iBooks app in iOS wouldn't accept more than one iBook.  You could download the files via various channels (Google Drive, Safari, etc.) and try to "Open In... iBooks" but only the first iBook you installed would open (and later be visible).  You cannot also download a newer version (same name) of the first iBook.  If you delete the first iBook, you can again download/install/open just file.  This is a bug.
    Root Problem?
We created later iBooks by changing the content of the previous one and then saving it.  We believe there is unique 'project' metadata within each new iBook project you create (from which iBook files comes). This is not visible or configurable within iBooks Author.  We think the iBooks app sees that project metadata, thinks its the same book , and then opens that first iBook.  The file you downloaded is on the device but the iBook database can't accept it not the bookshelf present it.  Its likely orphaned within the device.
    Workaround
Until Apple fixes the bug, the workaround is to always create a 'new' iBooks project in iBook Author for each iBook you wish to publish.  If you need to re-use content, copy-paste it from the old project into the new one.
    Solution
Perhaps iBooks (app) could sense the name, author, and version number when iBooks Author saves the .ibook file and treat that combination (maybe as a hash) as the unique version value.

    Hi KayNeine
Thanks for your post with this workaround. This certainly seems to tally with my experience and the hidden metadata theory does seem to answer why it is happening. Just need Apple to acknowledge and address the problem.
As this Support Community obviously isn't moderated by Apple can I suggest as many people as possible use the iBooks Author Feedback Form to report their issues. Hopefully then, someone at Apple might take note and try and rectify these problems.

This is available from the iBooks Author App in the menu: iBooks Author > Provide iBooks Author Feedback.

  • Can't Open an iBook (from iBook Author)

I downloaded an iBook, one which was created in iBook Author. I get a message that simply says the file cannot be opened. (The document "iBook Name" could not be opened."
I imported the iBook into iTunes and tried to add it to my iPad. But the iBook does not show up on the list of books that I can sync to the iPad.
When I look at the iBook in iTunes, in the Books sidebar section, I can see the iBook. It is listed as a Book not a Protected Book.
I checked the permissions on the file and I can read and write this file, so it doesn't seem to be a permission issue.

iBook Author is for making iBooks, it cannot read them.
That's interesting. I would never have guessed that iBooks Author couldn't open an iBook. Even one that was created in iBook Author?
Also, I figured out why I couldn't sync this book to my iPad. I had forgot that on this iPad I had not upgraded to iBooks 2. Which I've now done and it syncs just fine.
    Thanks.

  • How do I get my music from iBook G4 to iPhone 5?

In my iTunes library is a lot of music which I would like to put on my iPhone. My laptop and iPod nano are from older generations and I don't know how to get the music from those to the iPhone. Both the laptop as the iPod do not have bluetooth.
The iBook can not support the iPhone with cable because it has iOs 10.5.8; the software is too old and updates are not supported.
All the other software is up to date, even iTunes.
I have Mobile Me on the laptop, but have never used it before. iCloud is ready for use on the iPhone. iCloud can not be installed on the iBook because of the old iOs-version.
Who can help me with this question?
    Many thanks!!

Hello and welcome to the support community
As you know, your iPhone 5 is not compatible with our iBook G4. To get your music in iTunes from your iBook to your iPhone you would need to migrate the music files to a newer intel based Mac. A Mac which has Mac OS X 10.6 or higher installed. Then sync your iPhone 5.

  • Can't add books from iBooks Author

I have 4 books that I exported from iBooks Author and tried to copy them to iBooks, however since I upgraded to Yosemite, I can only add one book and after this it tells me for the subsequent books that the book is already in the library (as above) even though this is not the case.
I am using a Mac Pro with all the latest updates.
I am also experiencing the same issue copying the files from Google Drive / Dropbox on to the iPad

Read the last part of this article. I think that this is the information that you are seeking.

  • When I publish from ibooks author will the pages flip like my other books

When I publish from ibooks author will the pages flip like my other books the preview only slides side to side

Pages continue to slide rather than flip for the horizontal orientation.  In the vertical orientation, the text scrolls up-and-down like a web page (again as shown in iBooks Author if you change the previewed orientation).  I'm not sure why Apple went with the different GUI for their textbooks, but its the same for the ones authored by the big publishers.  If you want to see what the format is like on the iPad, there's a short free textbook (Wilson's Life on Earth) and sample chapters from others available from the iBookstore.
On a side note, one interesting thing about using texts in the two different orientations is that the formating changes as well.  Figures that show up as larger embedded images in the horizontal layout are smaller images in the left margin in the vertical layout, at least in Wilson's book.

  • How do I un-embed a video? I deleted the youtube video from ibooks author on my iMac, but it won't delete from the ipad ibook view. It shows up in my book as a blank bar until I tap it, then it plays the video.

How do I un-embed a youtube video? I deleted the youtube video from ibooks author on my iMac, but it won't delete from the ipad ibook view. It shows up in my book as a blank bar until I tap it, then it plays the video. I made a new page after deleting the original page in which I inserted the video; it still shows up. Only the advertisement from the video plays.

delete the media widget in Author
    re-preview to your iPad
    hope this helps...

  • TS4443 Unable to sync multi touch ibooks from iPad to iphone

    Hi,
Purchased and downloaded a multi touch book from ibooks to iPad air, but it does not sync to iPhone.
Can it? Should it be able to?
    Thanks

Does the book's description in the store say that it's compatible with iPhones ? If it is then what happens when you try to sync it via your computer's iTunes ? Have you tried redownloading it directly on your phone via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app ?

  • Samples missing from iBooks iPhone

Why are samples missing from pre-order books on iBooks for the iPhone? For example, Dot Complicated is currently a pre-order book. If you go to it from iBooks on the Mac or iPad, you can download a sample of the book. If you try the same thing from the iPhone, the Sample button is missing.

The Redmatica stuff sure is nice -- if you've got the dough. I'd recommend springing for the full Compendium Pro bundle though, if you're intent on using EXS24 as your primary sample-playback instrument. I've got Keymap and have barely used it over the past couple of years; but maybe next year I'll have more time to put into it.

  • Sync iBooks From iPAD to iPhone

Please follow the steps below to figure out how to Sync iBooks From iPAD to iPhone
Before Starting: Settings For Both Devices
    1. Settings > iBooks > Sync Collections > On
    Then...
    1. Sync iPAD with iTunes.
    2. File > Transfer Purchases From iPAD (this should transfer those books your purchased on your iPAD onto your iTunes)
    3. Un-sync iPAD from computer
    4. Sync iPhone
    5. Store > Purchased > Drag book(s) from the "Purchased folder" to your iPhone (this should transfer your book(s) from iTunes onto your iPhone)

No, this is not necessary or correct. It's not necessary to transfer to and from the iTunes library. When you sign into your iBooks account on each device you have iBooks installed in:
iBooks > Store > Purchased > shows everything you bought > download from there wirelessly.

  • HT4059 How do you sync ibooks from the ipad to the iphone 4

How do I sync ibooks from the ipad mini to the iphone 4?
    Thank you

If they are iTunes purchases and they are still in the store then you should be able to re-download them on your phone via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app. If they are not iTunes purchases, or are no longer in the store, then you can copy them from your iPad to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases (that should copy non-iTunes purchased books/PDFs from the iBooks app as well as ibooks) and you can then sync them to your phone.
If you then want to keep collections and bookmarks in-line between the two devices then use Settings > iBooks > Sync Bookmarks and Sync Collections 'on' ('Sync Collections'  won't copy books/PDFs between the devices, it will just put those that are already on both devices in the same collection)

  • HT4059 how do I trasnfer my ibooks from my iphone to my itunes on the computer

Does anyone know how I can transfer my books from ibooks to my computer's itunes library?

If they are ibooks from Apple then you should be able to re-download them on the iPad via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app. Or you can copy them from your iPhone to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases on iTunes 11) and then sync them to the iPad (they should copy over to the Books part of your computer's iTunes library)
