IBook, OSX 10.4.10 won't load!
I used to get a command line prompt about the master.passwd thing, so I ran what that article told me to do, rebooted, and it seemingly worked until I got to the loading OS X screen, with the blue lodaing bar. What happens to me now is I will get the bar completely (and if not, just barely before it should be complete) full and it won't do anything after that. The graphics will still keep running, but it will fail to load up the operating system! I've tried safe booting, which doesn't work at all. I've ran disk utility repair, and tried a fsck repair as well. I can't seem to make this thing load! What am I doing wrong?
And as to what happened to start this whole mess, I couldn't tell you. I did the security updates and such, never restarted, I just put it off. Things didn't load like hot corners or my screen saver, and I wasn't being prompted for a password upon returning from sleep mode. I shut it down for the night when I went to bed, then came back in the morning and had the command line problem. That's my story. Please help

Try this for starters.
Reset PRAM
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.
6. Release the keys and hold Shift key until grey apple appears to boot into Safe Mode if you can.
7. Log in
8. Empty Trash
9. Reboot normally and log in.
If you experience difficulties at any stage of the process please post back and let me know.

Tried to install OSX Mavericks now MBP won't load
Hi all
Last night I tried to install OSX Mavericks on my MBP mid-2010 running Mountain Lion. It downloaded fine and then seemed to install fine. When the message came up saying it was going to restart automatically the spinning wheel hanged, which was the first problem. I switched off the MBP and turned it on again. It now refuses to boot up and stays on the Apple bootup screen with the spinning wheel.
I've tried to restart in recovery mode but this doesn't seem to work. It just goes back to the spinning wheel and there is no progress bar that pops up to indicate the recovery data is being downloaded from the net (I don't have a recovery partition).
I have a backup external hard drive that I can use to restore my MBP and then try upgrading again, but I can't use that until I get into recovery mode.
Is anyone able to help?
ThanksOk so I worked out how to get into recovery mode. Turns out I was doing it wrong! I used an external USB drive to access recovery mode.
I ran disk utility which identified and fixed some errors on the HD. I thought this might solve the problem but when I restarted the same problem occurred. I then restored my time machine backup which thankfully worked.
I tried installing mavericks again! Upon restarting and completing the install, I got the message 'OSX has been installed. Your computer will now restart'. After the countdown had finished I got the beach ball which span eternally again, just like last time. After about 10 mins I did a hard reset and again OSX won't load.

Updated osx and now mail won't load
Hi all,
I've updated my operating system so that I could go on to upgrade to Lion, but in the interim my mail won't load - its telling me "an error occured while importing. Make sure you have available space in your home folder and try again"...I can't even locate my "home" folder on my system...
Any ideas how I can fix this? And will upgrading to Lion without the mail box being fixed perhaps fix it?Sounds like something went pear-shaped somewhere along the line. I suggest reinstalling like this:
* Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/?ref=logo Download Firefox 4.0] and download a fresh installation file to the desktop.
* Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to Mozilla Firefox and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).
* Then reboot and delete the folder called Mozilla Firefox at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
* Finally run the installation file you downloaded.
After you complete the installation, go to the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins Check] page and update those if necessary. -
Macbook (OSX 10.5.8) won't load facebook, youtube on any browser
As the title says, my macbook has stopped loading Facebook and Youtube on any browser (chrome, safari, firefox). It's been about 2 weeks and I've tried clearing cache and repairing the disk. All other websites work without a problem.
Any suggestions?OK, For the cookies you need to go into the setting on your browser and make sure that cookies are allowed. You also may need to make sure that cookies are not being blocked for facebook. Should be in the same area, would probably be on a blacklist.
As far as the DNS settings go.
Go into your Network preferences
select the method that you are connecting with from the list on the left
click in the DNS Server field and enter 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 (those are public DNS servers from google)
Click apply
Try to go to www.facebook.com If it doesn't work, try restarting your browser. -
iTunes, app store , iBooks store, etc won't load and I don't know why. Everything else works fine, and I've rebooted it. The problem is still there and I know I have a good Internet connection. Help please?
Have you tried disconnecting and re-connecting to your network ?. And when you say rebooted do you mean a reset ? If not then try that : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
You could also try closing those apps completely. From the home screen (i.e. not with any of those apps 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the iTunes, App Store and iBooks apps to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar. -
I just updated my operating system to OSX 10.7.4. Now Safari won't load.
I ran disc utilities and it still wont load. It tells me that Safari quit unexpectedly and gives me the option to submit a report of to re-open.
I have tried to find an updated Safari online but only find 5.1.7 updates for Windows.

I have OSX 10.7.5. I loaded Powerschool, this sent me to oracle to load java 7, now powerschool won't laod, java 7 logo just spins. I contacted orgacle live help, said it was a mac problem that they could fix for $75. Any help would be wonderful. MT
Pearson put out a tech note on this today - the new versions of Java are what's causing the problem. If you can use Time Machine to rollback java prior to a java 7 or 1.6.0_37 version that will get you going again. I've been searching for hours for a place to download the older version but it seems Apple's site and Oracle all only have the latest release. Still trying to see if I have a copy downloaded on a system that hasn;t been updated to copy off to a network drive or usb and install the older version on to systems.

An update to Java for Mac OS X was released on October 16, 2012. An issue has been identified with this Java update (Java for OS X 2012-006) which prevents teachers from launching PowerTeacher Gradebook.
Teachers using PowerTeacher Gradebook should avoid taking this Java update to version 1.6.0_37 until notified that PowerTeacher Gradebook has been certified with this latest version of Java 1.6 for Mac OS X. PowerTeacher Gradebook will continue to work on Mac OS X workstations with Java version 1.6.0_35.

IBook G4 won't load after latest security update, repair doesn't work?
Hi I had the same problem as someone else in this forum:
"Last night I saw that my ibook G4 wanted to do a security update. I told it to do it, and the ibook has not started since. It reset itself after downloaded, but it just stays on the booting up screen, never actually booting up so I can use it. After about two hours of trying to boot up, I turned it off, and on again, and it still wont boot.

HI,
Ok... you need to boot from your install disk.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck
If you have the original hard drive in this iBook, it was probably a 60GB drive? When you can do this, check to see how much available disk space there is.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Not enough available drive space can cause issues like you are experiencing.

I tried restarting it after the repair (there were some things to repair and I tried to repair twice just to make sure it didn't miss anything) but it still won't load. It says its starting the OX system, but when the blue bar reaches the end, it doesn't do anything from there. I also left it on for hours and it did nothing. My mousepad still lets me move around the mouse, the caps lock key still lights up, as the num lock key. iBooks won't load PDF files any more.
I have a lot of PDF files so I thought I reached a maximum number of files or space so I deleted a lot of old files but this did not help.
I rebooted, synced, updated, restarted, etc. - everything that I can think of and I still have the same problem.
I don't remembered the last file that I loaded into iBooks, as I usually put them into collections.
I can still load PDF files into other applications like PDF Reader, but I prefer to have them all in iBooks.
Anybody seen this one before?
I have 64GB iPad2 and I have over 14GB free space.There have been several threads on this topic over the last few weeks. It's not clear what the issue is, and it is not universal, but tend to effect users storing large numbers of PDFs in iBooks. Possible it has some thing to dowith capacity of the app, or specific characteristics of some of the PDFs.

I'm running OSX 10.6.8. I have final cut studio 6.0.6. The compressor aps won't load. I get a compressor not loaded properly pop-up. I have tried reloading but still no compressor.
Start by repairing permissions. Then remove Compressor using this utility:
FCS Remover - Uninstall Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Compressor, Soundtrack Pro, Color, DVD Studio Pro, LiveType, Cinema Tools
Then reinstall and try to load Compressor. If it fails, post the error statements here.

I bought a book on ibook, read 13 chapters...and then it dissapeared from my phone. The bookshelf is completely empty and won't load. Tried to sync my phone through itunes and it won't sync the book. How do I fix this?

Nope, I tried the Pacifist route after applying the combo update.
It does sound as if webkit is busted at the moment.
What version of osx is on your install disks?
