Ibook to macbook pro

hello there. i have the g4 ibook, and i am wondering what is the best way to transfer my important files that i will need on my new macbook pro. i have iphoto, itunes, address book, files that i would like to transfer. i also have quicktime files that are located on a folder called shared which i obtained through limewire. i have done a little research in the discussions, but i would like some concrete answers on the most effective/cheapest way of doing this. thank you

Hi Trailer,
What do you exactly mean by erasing your libraries? Do you mean erase them from your previous computer? You can just drag them to the folders to the Trash and then go to Finder > Empty Trash. This might take some time, but it should delete your iPhoto/iTunes folder. Do you want to wipe all the contents off your iBook? If so, let us know; we can walk you through it.

Niel,
When transferring over to the MacBook Pro via Migration Assistant, would items in the InputManger folder cause any minor problems (slow it down a bit)? I have read some articles that say that this items in this folder has cause the MacBook Pro to run little slower then it should be. With iTunes should one select Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized before moving it with Migration Assistant? Just wondering, I didn't use Migration Assistant.

"if you can use the Kindle app from iPad to Macbook, shouldn't you be able to do the same with an apple product?"
    No.
The kndle app provides this feature.
    Ibooks does not.
" I would rather buy books from iBooks"
You can buy form whomever you like.
" but not being able to go from device to device like in Kindle is a problem."
You can read iboks on ipod touch/ipad/iphone, just not your computer.

  • Migration from G3 iBook to Macbook Pro 2.16

I bought a Macbook Pro Core2Duo 2.16 when I was in the States in January. Used Migration Assistant to transfer system from the iBook G3 (10.3.9) when I got home in February. No real problems (& the Pro is perfect -- and the great iBook is still in use) but there is a system confusion I caused and then ignored.
On login I have 2 user accounts where there should be one (me). One is in the name of the old system, Howard Dratch, and opens with the PW for the Pro and Tiger. The other is hfdratch which should have been the name for the new machine. It shakes off the PW for the MBP. I have been worried about logging in with it on iBook's PW wondering if I will enter some Panther ghost-system.
Also, in HD/Users(the folder with an icon)/Deleted Users there is a dmg file labeled hfdratch with 4.4GB. I haven't mounted it to see what comes out. Should it be there taking up 4+gigs?
Obviously I did something wrong when I migrated. Any suggestions as to whether to delete one of the user options on startup and what, if anything, to do to the dmg file would be appreciated.

An ethernet cable should go faster. That's how I did it yesterday. However, even so the Migration Assistant said it would take 5 hours. So I drilled down into the options and de-selected my music and my photos and just moved apps and account settings. After about 90 minutes I was up and running. At that point I enabled File Sharing on my old computer, then logged into it using Finder on the new one. I manually copied over my music and photos into the appropriate directories while I continued to work. Despite what Migration Assistant said, it only took about 90 more minutes to do that while I was actually writing a document in MS Word on the new one.

  • Backup ibook to macbook pro

i am needing to do a total reformat and reinstall of os x on my wifes ibook. she is the only user account on her puter, so, if i boot her ibook in target disk mode and connect it to my macbook pro, dragging and droping her user folder should get everything, right?

"dragging and droping her user folder should get everything, right? "
    Yes

  • Connecting & Using G3 iBook With MacBook Pro

I am planning to buy a MacBookPro shortly when I am in the States. Will I be able to connect to my iBook G3 on 10.3.9 (640mb) both to transfer files and to use the iBook as an external hard-drive (bootable)?
If so, do I need anything more than the connecting cable and maybe some software like SuperDuper?
Again, the question that is probably unanswerable -- can I buy a refurbished MacBook Pro or are they just recycled lemons? My wallet needs the price tag, my head doesn't need more problems.

You'll be able to connect your iBook although it will NOT be bootable. The Mac OS X version on Intel systems is different to that of the PowerPC systems.

  • Can you download ibooks on macbook pro

Can you download books to a macbook pro and read them

iBooks comes with Mavericks. If you download and install Mavericks, it will install iBooks and you can read your iBooks on your Mac.

  • IBook or MacBook  Pro

Hi i was just wondering if anyone could help me out. I am a new mac user and I was wondering what laptop I should get. I am trying to debate between the iBook 14" or the 2.0 GHz MacBook Pro. I am not a very advanced computer user. Like I go on the web a lot and check email and use itunes and iphoto the most. I also use Word and maybe play some occasional computer games too. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

    Stinz,
In no way shape or form does the MacBook Pro suit your needs. From what you are saying, you use the "iLifes" and some basic gaming. The iBook G4 14" will suit you fine, and with the left over money you can buy a good external hard drive, wireless mouse/keyboard, Monk Episodes, candy bars, etc. If you were to buy the MacBook Pro, I would assume you are going through a midlife crisis. Why spend the extra money on a computer that is for Professional when you actually will get a whole lot more with a more economical one. Really though, it comes down to a couple of things:
Your budget, can you afford that expense (Buy AppleCare No Matter What!)
    What you think.
    What your friends think.
What the Apple Employee tells you.
And your last minute urge when you are getting ready to buy a computer!

To use the iBook app upgrade to Mavericks, then you can access the library you have on iOS Devices and the iBook store.

  • Read ibook on macbook pro

I purchased an iBook on my iPhone and synced with iTunes on my Macbook Pro.
Can I read the ibook on my Macbook Pro computer as well as the iPhone?

No, right on the purchase page for your book it normally says that it requires an iOS device to read it.  The only exceptions would be certain books without DRM like O'Reilly and Take Control.

  • Installing OS X on iBook using Macbook Pro disks

Is this possible? I've lost my iBook disks and borrowed my friends' disks for his Pro. When I click to reinstall, it loads from disk but a kernal error comes up, "We are hanging here..."
Is it not possible for me to reinstall using his disks? If not, why?

    Hi
No its not possible - think about it?
Grey Installer disks are hardware specific. A MacBook Pro in terms of hardware is completely different to an iBook. Different CPU, different board components, different graphics card. Besides if the version of the OS is 10.5 for the MBP then it's more than possible that the iBook may be a model that does not qualify Leopard's minimum requirements.

  • Unable to read pdf in iBooks on MacBook Pro

Trying to use iBooks for the first time to read some PDFs, as I was unhappy with reading them in Adobe Acrobat and wanted to see if iBooks would offer a better experience.
I added the PDFs (purchased from Lonely Planet) into iBooks. However, every time I click on a file within the iBooks library, it would launch Adobe Acrobat Pro or Preview and open the PDF in one of these applications.
Next, I located the files in Finder (in the iBooks folder) and in the Get Info box, I told it to "Open with: iBooks.app". No effect.
Next, I try doing the same with the original files (in the Get Info box, I told it to "Open with: iBooks.app") before adding them to the iBooks library. Now, clicking on them in the iBooks library, it tries to launch Preview and then I get an error message:
    Why???

FWIW, rEFInd 0.7.5 includes a fix that should make it more reliable on the Mac models that had problems with multiple EFI drivers installed. I've received a couple of reports that this fix helps, but I have yet to see enough reports to be convinced that it fixes issues on 100% of affected computers. (Apple's firmware varies so much from one model to another that it's impossible to say with certainty how something will work based on sampling just a couple of computers.)

  • Migrating from iBook to MacBook Pro

Unable to access my pictures, music and documents folders that I migrated from my iBook. It tells me that I have insufficient access privileges. I haven't been able to figure out how to deal with that.
    Does anyone have any suggestions

Are the folders in the right place (ie, under your own user folder)? If so, you can fix the permissions on them by highlighting the folders, clicking cmd-i to open Get Info, and going to the Permissions tab, setting yourself as owner, with read/write permissions. You should also click "Apply to enclosed items".
Or, did the migration create a new user with those folders? If so, you can log in as that user and copy the folders first to the Shared folder, then log in as your other user and copy them to the correct places - and then correct the permissions as before.

  • MacBook Pro 2.33 Slow starting Adobe

I'm not sure if it's me but Adobe CS2 seems to be taking a long time to open. I did own a 2.16 for a couple of days before it was returned and this seemed to be faster!!!

I'm experiencing the same problems with CS2 and with Microsoft Office. I've timed the startup and it's frequently taking over three full minutes to fire up any of these applications. Not only that, but running the programs is terribly slow and if I switch between aps then the timer just sits and spins, often for over a full minute. Finally, quitting any of these applications can also take forever...again, often over three full minutes. Compared to my iMac or even my four year old iBook, the MacBook Pro is a real dog. I thought the Intel processors were going to be a major improvement but my laptop simply isn't coming close to "as advertised." I sure would like to hear a solution fo this.

  • I am confused about something.  How do I read a book on my MacBook Pro?  I can't find the iBook app anywhere, which is what I use on my iPad.  The book I want to read is in my iTunes but I can't click on it.  My iBook library does not show up in iTunes.

I am confused about something.  How do I read a book on my MacBook Pro?  I can't find the iBook app anywhere, which is what I use on my iPad.  The book I want to read is in my iTunes but I can't click on it.  Some of my iBooks show up in my iTunes but they are "grayed" out.  The only books that respond in iTunes are audiobooks and that's not what I'm looking for.  Is this a stupid question?

Nevermind - I answered my own question, which is I CAN"T READ ANY BOOKS I purchased in iBooks on my MacBook Pro.  If I want to read on my mac I have to use Kindle or Nook.  Which means any book I've already purchased through iBooks has to be read on my iPad.  Kind of a drag because there are times when it's more convenient for me to read while I'm sitting with my Mac.
