ICal multi-day (not all day) event  in Month view not displayed over days

What is it when I have an event that starts on a Wednesday and 4:00pm and goes to Friday at 6:00pm (not clicked as an All Day Event), (in Month view) the only day showing the event is the first day?! Shouldn't it show it over the course of the 3 days!? Outlook does that (I can't believe I just referenced Outlook in an Apple Discussion... in a positive light no less). Is it a setting?

Yes, Apple any help for this would be great. The only way I've come to work around is to use multiple events. So for a flight out of town would be one event, and the return another. I would create a third event then for the actual time out of town. There must be some way to easily fix this.

  • Events in month view that span multiple days

    Hi,
When I enter an event in iCal with a start time at lets say day 1 and an end time at day 3 it shows up as a multiday event in week view, but when I switch to month view it only shows the event and start time at day 1 and not the event at day 2 or day 3 with the end time.
Does anybody know how to overcome this?
    THXS Henk

Same here. Though make it an all day event and it spans all day in month view.
Looks like an obscure bug (I'd guess most folks who have events that span more than one day just make them all day events. This is worth a bug report to Apple: http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?linkprocess_@@.3bbae6ea

  • ICal cuts off text of some events in month view

I've noticed that iCal cuts off the text of some events, while displaying the full text of longer events in the month view. For example, if I create an event titled "Test Event" only "Test" shows up in the day it's created, but if I enter "Longer Event" the entire text shows up, on two lines. These events are on separate days with no other events on those days, so there's nothing to get in their way. Why is this?

This is so utterly annoying- I never had this issue with previous versions of iCal, and I can't even run those versions on tiger now that I've upgraded. The tiger upgrade in general has disrupted my workflow much more than I thought it would-
Because of the way I use iCal, not seeing the full even title in month mode makes iCal pretty much useless to me. I don't want to have to click between dozens of events that begin with "Renders of" to find which set of renderings are due on which days. Nor do I want to go through and rename all of my "Renders of Levels 1a-3c" etc to make the titles more useful. It should just WORK.
Well, let me know if anyone finds a better way of making this work other than "resizing ad lib until things sorta show up"

  • Multi day events in Month View.

Multi day events in month view only display on the first day. Checking all day event fixes this, but none of my multi day events are in fact all day. If I sync with my iphone, it does mark both days on the multi day event in month view.
In week view they display correctly, but I like to have the month drawn out.
I am surprised to come across this hang up. Other calendars I have used always displayed such events across the month view.
Is this a bug or lack of feature?

    Bug or design flaw?
Try setting it as a recurring event (yeah, I know, it's not a great solution, but it gets the job done)

  • How can you view multi day events in month view without having to check the "all-day" box?

I have multi-day events that I would like to be able to view in the month view.  The only way that I have found to do this is to make the event a "all-day" event.  Is there another way to view these events in month view, or am I stuck?

It shows multi-day events that are "all-day" events.
But for a non "all-day" event that happens to span multiple days, it only shows the first day

  • Showing more All-Day Events in Month View?

Even with the iCal window maximized, when more than 4 All-Day events take place on the same day, Month View shows "..." instead of the usual All-Day colour bar, even if there's still half the space left in 'box' for that day....
To be clear: it shows the first 4 colour bars for the corresponding all-day events, then "..." at the top to show there are more, you have to switch to Week or Day view to see them
I looked at the plist and can't figure what could be changed.... any tips? It would really be convenient to see the maximum possible number of All-Day events even in Month view.
    Merci!

    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Unfortunately, it appears that this is intentional. The iCal Help file states:
"If you're in Month view and you see three dots (an ellipsis) at the top of the day, there is not enough room to show all the events on that day. To see all the events in Day view, double-click the ellipsis."
I suspect that half of the box is saved for all-day events and half for timed events. On my iMac G3, I get three dots and 3 events, on my G5 with a much larger screen I get three dots and 4 events. If anyone figures out how to alot more space to all-day events, it would be a big help.

  • Timed muti day event in month view

Can someone please help. I need help with the 'month' display of iCal. If I have a multi-day event, iCal shows solid bar between the start day and the end day.
However, if a start time on the first day of the multi-day event is entered, it is only this first day which shows up in the month view. There is no solid bar covering all the days and at only a glance of the 'month' view, it looks like the multi-day event is actually just a single-day event.
    Can someone please help.
    Thanks

If it has a start time iCal doesn't consider it a multi-day event, so in month view only displays it on a single day, which is definitely misleading. You should probably tell Apple's OS X Feedback about it.

  • With iCal can I hide repetitive events in month view only?

I was wondering if it was possible to hide repetitive events in month view but have them show in week and day views. For instance, I have my class schedule on iCal but I don't want to see it when I look at the month view, I just want to see events that are not repetitive, such as exam/test events. If anyone can help, that would be awesome. Thanks.

    jk_baller23,
You could create a separate calendar for repetitive events, and uncheck them when using the day/week view.

  • Can I change the way iCal displays events in Month view?

I don't like the way iCal in the new OS displays events in Month view.  It's counter intuitive to have the time of the event be at the far right and grayed out.  I find myself staring and slowly scanning down the display just to find out when I have to be at an appointment.  I wish they had stayed with the other display, not only was it much clearer, it also word wrapped so you could see the entire description.  I have blank space at the bottom of the day, and at the same time missing information because of the lack of wrapped text.

    Hi Daniel,
The option you have there is to change the calendar of the event (currently the "University" calendar in your screen shot) not the colour.  It is the calendars that have colours in iCal not the events.
To change the calendar colour in OSX 10.7:
Click Calendars (in the top-left corner of the iCal window), and select the calendar by clicking its name in the Calendars pop-up list.
    Choose Edit > Get Info.
Choose a new colour from the pop-up menu in the top-right corner of the Info window.
To customize the colour, choose Other, and then make your colour selections in the Colours window.
    I hope that helps.
    Best wishes

  • Ical cannot create event in month view

iCal cannot create event in month view. Is this a bug?
I've tried double clicking in a day as I always did but nothing.

    Ko be,
Application UI issues are in many cases, caused by a corrupt plist file.
Quit iCal, and try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Since that Library is now hidden, you have to use the Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart and check iCal for functionality.

  • How can I Print the next 4 or 5 weeks from iCal in month view (not simply complete months)

How can I Print the next 4 or 5 weeks from iCal in month view (not simply complete months).
I'd like to print the next (up an coming) weeks of my calendar from iCal in month view - The idea is to get this information on 1 sheet of A4.. just like the month view.. but as far as i can see the month view only gives you current or next complete months.. The ONLY time this give me the view I want is in the first week of any given month.. the rest of the month part of the print is in the past and not enough of the up and coming weeks are shown?
I can believe  the app won't allow you to do this .. am I missing an easy fix.. or has it been rectified in Yosemite .. I'm using mavericks 10.9.5.
    Thanks

    Hope this helps.

  • Hello you can help me my ipod or itunes I do not have total spins music on the ipod and not all the photos I've just not very much since I have up loaded the latest version 5.0 please help

hello you can help me my ipod or itunes I do not have total spins music on the ipodand not all the photos I've just not very much since I have up loaded the latest version5.0 please help

First of all, you should always save you photos on computer like any other digital camera.
Backup on iCloud or iTunes only backup your Camera Roll. The other photos should be already on the computer.
Note: Photos are not saved in iTunes, it's only a conduit between your iPhone and your photo managing software on computer.
    What computer do you have?

  • Viewing events in month view

Here's the thing: I often have multiple events/appointments on any given day, and what I find frustrating is that I can't see all of them in Month view (which I use most of the time).
When iCal decides there is too much info on a certain day, it puts three "periods" across the top of that day's box. This is aggravating for several reasons, 1) I can't see what the missing events are w/o changing to week or day views, 2) the periods are all too easy to miss, being small and out of the way and 3) perhaps most upsetting is the fact that iCal seems to do this arbitrarily.
Some days will show as many as four items, while others will only show two before giving up and hiding my info with the periods.
Question: Can this be altered in some way? Is there a setting or a work around? I like to use iCal, but I am a Month view kind of guy. If I can't fix this I'll have to look into other software, and I hate to do that.
Thanks for any tips or info.

The only way I know of controlling it is to make the iCal window bigger. I don't like this as it takes up too much screen space, but when I look at month view if I see a bunch of dots I try dragging out the window. I think vertical space is more important than horizontal. I don't know of any terminal tricks to control it. You could open up iCal's property list (in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist) in the property list editor and see if there is anything obvious, but I don't recall seeing anything. If you are going to experiment with the property list do it with iCal off and make a backup copy.

  • Adding event in Month view

Is there a way to go straight to the detail box when adding an event in month view? When I right click on a date on the calendar then choose "add an event", it just puts it right on the calendar, then I click that so I can put the time down, then only the small box opens so I have to click the "edit" so it will open the big the box that has all the options in it.
Does this make sense? Is there a way to right click a day, choose "add an event" and have it go right to the bigger box where you can finish all the details of the event?
Also I saw a reference to the "info sidebar" in the Mac 101 support on the website.
"In the Info sidebar, click the New Event text to display the text box and type a name for your event, like dentist appointment, band practice, or a birthday party."
Where do I find this "info sidebar"?
    Thanks all in advance!

    rtha,
Just double click on the day that you want to add the event. That action will display the full edit field.
The info sidebar information on the Mac 101: iCal page is in error. It used to exist in the previous version of iCal.
I suggest that you provide: Apple - iCal - Feedback

  • Can't add an event in month view

I just installed Lion on 3 of my machines (2 iMacs and an air). On my one iMac I am unable to add an event in month view in iCal, I have tried every which way possible to add an event and nothing. However I am able to add event in day and week view. Also, when I go to add an event in month view while I don't get a response on the troubled iMac my other two computers show that and untitled event was added where I was attempting to add the event. Has anyone else experience this problem after installing Lion?

    Tim,
Try refreshing the iCal plist file. You will find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To get to the Library folder use Finder>Go>Depress the "Option" Key and select LIbrary. Quit iCal, drag the .plist file to your Desktop. Then log out/in or restart.
