ICall?  (free VOIP/Wi-fi calls) with iPhone 3G?

Any update on iCall, the app that supposedly allows us to make free calls over wi-fi/voice over IP (VOIP)?
any news would be appreciated, not only re: when it might be released, but also whether those calls have high sound fidelity-- this would supposedly fix the call reception issues (eg dropped calls), if you just have a wireless network at home or work.

i havent actually used it yet - but if you run the app it just prsents you wiith a dialing ketpad much like the native Apple one - it has favorites although it doesn't link to the native iphone favorite list - it also has recents and contacts (which does link to your native iphone contact list)
the only complication i can see is their is a topup button at the bottom of the app to add funds to your account - but it just links to the truphone web site

I Have an iPhone. Is it free to talk and txt other iPhones ? With any providers ?

Apple to Apple is only free to use iMessage. iMessage will only work when connected to wifi network. As far as being able to send text messages to friends with AT&T and Verizon you will need to set up service through a wireless carrier.
Link below will explain a little more about iMessages and regular SMS/MMS text messages:

  • ICal unexpectedley closes & won't sync with iPhone

For some odd reason, my iCal closes 15-20 seconds after I open it. Furthermore, iCal will not sync with my iPhone anymore. This is odd, as it has worked fine in the past, and syncing with my iPhone has never been a problem. I suspect some recent software updates with either Mac OS X(10.4.11) iPhone or iTunes has triggered this new problem. But I'm at my wits end trying to figure this one out.
    Can anyone help me?

    Hi dsmith,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
Also, open Console in Utilities, then start iCal & watch for messages.

  • Spontaneous reset during call with Iphone 3GS running iOS 5

My iPhone 3GS crashes almost everytime during a call.  When I'm calling some-one or some-one is calling me the phone suddenly resets after 2 or 3 minutes.  Is this a HW or Software problem.  In my diagnostics list I see quite some panic messages with CRC errors.

"Spontaneous reset" - maybe you mean spontaneous restart - the phone can't reset itlself.
Could be either hardware or software.  Restore the phone in iTune using a backup and if this continues restore as new, without using a backup.  If restoring as new doesn't help, there is a hardware issue.

  • Can't send calls with iPhone 4S

    Hi...
I'm new to iPhone (but proud owner of an iPod Touch and an iPad).
Got an unlocked iPhone 4S, and activated it with Koodoo (in Canada, Telus' more affordable, pay-as-you-go division), which now officially supports the iPhone 4.
Internet connectivity is great, tethering too, I can send and receive SMS messages and receive phone calls... but I just can't call anyone. The line is dead. I hear an echo of my voice, and that's it. No ring tone. Tried from home with my landline, from a few friend's home phones, with similar results.
Yes, I upgraded the iPhone to the latest version (5.0.1 at time of writing) and restarted it a few times just to make sure. Same disappointing results.
In short, I'm baffled. How can an accessory function (SMS) work fine while the main function can't?..
Has anyone seen this strange behaviour? If so, how did you fix it?..
Thanks a million for all your help!

Can you give us more details?

  • ICal in Mac won't sync with iPhone or iPad

I just updated to Lion on my MacBook and I am trying to do the wireless/iCloud sync for my appointments in my calendars.  Everything works fine between my iPad and my iPhone but there is nothing happening from my MacBook to my devices.  Appointments put in my MacBook do not show up in my iPhone and appointments put in iPhone don't show up in the Mac, even with a wired sync. Before the update I was doing the regular wired sync and it was working fine, and now nothing.  Is there a setting I am missing?  Yes, I am connected to the internet etc.  I do not use MobileMe or anything else.  This is just a iCloud, iTunes or iCal issue.
    Thanks!

  • ICal on iMac won't synch with iphone 4 with 4s software update

    Help please.
Since I updated my iphone 4 with the software for iphone 4s my ical on my imac won't synch with my iphone calendar. Also events are duplicated. It is driving me crazy as I have to check both clandarsd to ensure I don't miss any events and have to physically re enter them separately into the different calendars.
If the fix involves backing up or anything technical can you please explain fully how I do it as I am not a very experienced mac user.
    Thanks
    Nicole

"Well, I figured it out. The events that weren't syncing from my laptop to my iPhone were events for which I had changed the "calendar". In other words, I set up some events in iCal, all of which were part off the same calendar, but then I didn't like the color of those events. So I created a new calendar and changed these events by right clicking on them to assign them to the new calendar. Somehow, moving these events from the calendar they were created on to a different one caused them not to be recognized by the sync process. This sounds like a bug to me."

  • Can't make or receive calls with iPhone 5

I've had issues with my iPhone 5 for the past 2 weeks where the phone function for outgoing and incoming calls does not work.
I've worked the process with AT&T initially thinking it was their network problem, but, finally confirmed that the problem was associated with my phone.
The SIM card has been changed.  The IOS has been verified at latest version 7.1.2.  The phone has been reset.  The phone function continues impaired.
I've noticed that the phone has been getting warm during charging process over the past few months leading to this problem.
Any ideas to get my phone to work other than upgrade or $199 replacement at Apple Store?
Pretty disappointed customer in basic expected quality from Apple...

If setting it up as new device, without using the latest backup afterwards, does not bring the full functionality back, you'll have to get your phone serviced or checked by Apple or an Authorized Apple Service Provider.

  • HT1688 Can I block calls with iPhone 5?

Is there a way to block calls and messages to iPhone 5?

There is nothing native to the iPhone 5 to block phone calls. Phone call blocking is generally handled at the carrier level. Check with your carrier and see if they provide blocking services.

  • Cannot hear anything when calling with iPhone 4

I've had my iPhone 4 just over a year and for the past week or so I haven't been able to hear anything when making or recieving calls. Also when going to answer a call it freezes and shuts itself down. I have done the restore and also restored it from new loosing my stuff and this still hasn't fixed it. It also doesn't have any sound when using headphones either. Anyone have any ideas or advice?? Thanks

Sometimes if you are nice to them they will replace it even if it is out of warranty. And if they won't there is a flat fee of $149 to replace it.

You may be misunderstanding Skype. With Skype it matters only where you are calling TO. Your location is irrelevant. Unfortunately you don't tell us to/within which country you are calling so it's not possible to give you a definitive response.
If you are calling within India that country is not included in the Premium Subscription.

How do I make a hands free call with the iphone 4s?  I have a bluetooth car device and when I try to talk through it (as I did with my old phone) to call someone it does not work.  so far only hte last person called is redialed.

That is a carrier-based service. So first you have to make sure your service contract includes that feature.
It usually also includes Call Hold. So you call the first party, put them on hold, call the second, then reactivate the first. But only if your carrier allows you to.

  • After updating to iOS 8.3 on my iPhone 6, Blu Logic bluetooth calls with a charging phone in my car do not go through the car's speakers.  Siri's message now adds, "....calling _______on speaker."

Blu Logic bluetooth calls using "Hey, Sir" do not go through my car's speakers since updating to iOS 8.3.  They are routed through the iPhone 6 speaker after Siri says, "....calling ________ on speaker."  The "on speaker" term was never used before.  The Blu Logic bluetooth unit is an aftermarket device installed in a 2005 Buick LaCrosse.  It worked perfectly until the iOS 8.3 update.

    OldGnome:
Blu Logic seems to keep a virtually invisible support presence on the internet.  I did return to the aftermarket installer of the unit.  He told me pretty much the same as you.  Apple expects the equip. manufacturers to keep up with iOS.  It's a bit of a Catch-22.  Perhaps iOS 9 will exterminate the bugs!!
In the meantime, the only thing I've really lost is hands-free dialing for bluetooth calls in my car.
