IChat constantly logging out

I have trashed my preferences, changed my port (5190>443) as I have found suggested here in the forums, to no results. The app continually logs itself out. help!

Hi,
I was trying to find out how you had set up your LAN.
You have a computer and a box that connects to the internet.
This may be a cable service, DSL over a phone line, Satellite, or even wireless of a cell phone service.
The Mac is set as default to expect to find a IP address form a DHCP server.
A DHCP server is a device that issues out IP automatically to any computer or router that connects to it.
Many modems do this by default, as do routers.
However it is not good practice to have both devices doing it as the computer then technically sits in two subnets (one form each device) as routers do not block this information from another source.
What sort of service do you get from Roadrunner ?
I take it that this is a cable service and that you are ethernetted to this box ?
Now cable modems can be slightly different in that they can pass the IP address that is given to you by the ISP(Roadrunner)
You can check on your Mac.
Go to System Preferences > Network
Use the second drop down and pick out how you connect to the device (Ethernet)
Then make sure the TCP/IP tab is blue.
This should say "Using DHCP" in a drop down just under the tabs.
If this starts with either
192.168.xxx.xxx
10.xxx.xxx.xxx
or 172.16 through to 172.32.xxx.xxx then it is the device that gives you that number
Anything else will be coming from the ISP
Can you confirm it says Using DHCP and the first three numbers (192.168.1.xxx or whatever it says) of the IP that appears underneath that ?

  • IChat constantly logging out/losing connection to host, fix

This worked for me. After trashing every iChat pref file Spotlight would show me and restarting, continually renew my DHCP lease on every quit. sometimes every 5 minutes, posting to this forum and getting some honest help, and Archiving and Installing, the problem persisted. I have never been wireless before so I was frustrated, with this going on for weeks. I have an EH100 (eHome). I went to Network settings>DHCP Server settings. Unchecked Enable DHCP Server. iChat went Offline. I then Rechecked Enable DHCP Server and have been running for 48 hours without an disconnect. I hope this helps someone. I know I have been totally frustrated by this problem, as many here have.

    Hi ekryss,
    Ahh the simple things.
It can be frustrating trying to find these little things.
Glad you have found a solution and thanks for sharing it with us.

  • IChat not logging out

I quit iChat, and AIM is not running anywhere else - not on my iphone or any other computer. My buddies say I am on and my account says I've been on for around 4 days straight when I turn off my computer at night. how do I change this?

    Hi,
    I am a little confused.
I made one suggestion but you refer to having tried two ("I tied both")
The suggestion I made of of setting the option to Go Off Line on Quit is the one I use.
Depending how you already use your iChat > Preferences > Security settings you could set up the Block Specific People list to include everyone and set that before Quitting. (Not very practical if a large list)
You could check or rather Uncheck the option to Automatically Login at iChat Launch (the bottom one of the three top items in Account Info tab in the Accounts section of the Preferences) - the presumption being that if it has to Not login you in on Start you have to be logged out.
However this goes back to the iChatAgent thing that start when the Computer does but does not Quit when iChat Does, ready for Off Line Messaging.
Try Signing in here and turning Off Off Line Messaging
    https://settings.aim.com/
    Summary.
I have the setting as shown in the picture.
Whilst iChat is open other Buddy List show any AIM Account I log out off as going Off Line.
If I set up my two macs with two different Screen Names then the other computers shows one Screen Name going Off Line when I shut the computer down.
However I do have Off Line Messaging turned Off for my main AIM name. (which I tend to use for Testing on this but have not noticed any different behaviour from my other AIM Logins).
I have also made one impractical suggestion as a workaround.

  • Error 201; CC desktop app constantly logged out, won't redownload

Running CC on Windows 7, 64bit. Have run into the "Please log in/You are now logged out" loop before, so uninstalled the CC desktop app, renamed the OOBE file to OOBE_OLD, and attempted to re-download and re-install the CC app. This worked last time, but today every time I attempt to download, it gives me error code 201 and tells me to seek help.
There does not appear to be anything pertinent to this issue on the forums already. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi LawnSnark ,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
Error 201 indicates that the download of the installation files was unable to be resumed successfully or it can be lack of sufficient permissions as well.
Please create a new Administrator user account , Download Creative Cloud desktop app in new account and sign in.
    Please reply for any assistance.

  • Ibook constantly logs out so wont record eye tv

    Hi,
I have 2 users on my mac. I need eye tv to be able to record. At the moment my energy settings are only to put the computer to sleep.
However, it keeps going to the log in screen when not used. This is frustrating because I need to stay in to open eye tv to record.
Any idea how to get it to stop logging out?
    Thanks
    Angus

Check the Security preferences pane - make sure it isn't set to automatically log you out.

  • IChat randomly logging out

For soem reason, iChat keeps on logging me out and bringing up a window saying that it has lost its connection with AIM. This happens only when I am idle for over 15 minutes, but not always. I does it if I am Away, or Available, and sometimes doesn't log me out, but works just fine.
Has anyone else been haveing a similar problem?

    HI,
It is more likely somethig to do with using two devices.
How are the ports opened in both ?
Port Forwarding in Both can lead to problems.
Which is the DHCP server if you have not set Static Addresses.
    Two likely problems here.
    1) iChat does not two DHCP servers (leads to Subnet problems)
    2) The IP of your computer or the second router is changing every now and then and then Port Forwardingis not sending it to the computer but to the IP it used to be.

    Hi,
    Long path
    Hard Drive/Users/(Your account)/Library/Preferences
In Cover Flow view with the Name column selected it should look like this
    iChat 5 has a few more iChat.plist
In iChat > Preferences > Accounts does the name have  lightbulb next to it ?
This would indicate it is  a Jabber login and Google is a Jabber server.
It is late where I am and I will not pick up new messages for a while.

  • Why am I getting constantly logged out of this forum?

It seems I have to keep logging in every time I sue thiese discussions. Is there some way to stay logged in, as with other forums?

That is the way it should work.
I find it hard to believe that you are supposed to have to attempt two or three logins.
However this is odd, in the post earlier you said one is supposed to stay logged on if the browser is left open, nothing about getting looged off after a certain number of hours (or minures)

  • How do i log out of ichat

okay so what is tick and how do i get it?? I need to figure out how to log out of ichat... is there any way to log out of ichat without "tick"??

    Hi,
It depends on what extactly you mean by Log Out.
Quitting iChat will Log Out all accounts that you have logged in.
Clicking where it says Available (Or Away and Selecting Off Line from that menu will log that account only Off Line.
Your AIM Accounts (Those that Login to AIM) can also be set to Invisible. You can see your Buddies ON Line but they cannot see you.
    MORE.
iChat will Launch if you have the Computer ON and iChat unopened when someone sends you an IM.
This is because a support app called iChatAgent (Snow Leopard and Earlier) or IMAgent in Lion effectively "Listens" for such an event.
On you First Off Line IM from an AIM Buddy tyou will get an Accompanying IM from AIMSysMessage asking if you want to receive more.
Answering "No" will stop Off Line IMs (Those that come when you open the computer).
You can only turn this On again at AIM Settings  (You can use it to turn them Off if you are not sure - you need to Login there).
IN addition there is a setting in the iChat Menu > Preferences > General Setting that states about setting your Status to Off Line when you Quit iChat.
This tends to stop those IMs that launch iChat when you have the computer On.
    Yet More.
You can Click and hold the iChat icon in the DOCK and select to set an Account Off Line there.
You can also do this in the iChat Menu > Accounts
If in the iChat Menu > Preferences > General Section you set it to Display the Menu Bar Status an Icon appears on the clock side of the Menu Bar and this is a drop Down menu as well.
If a Buddy List is the Front Window you can set Off line there as well.
    Finally.
You can go to iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts and untick (Deselect) the box that says "Use this Account" for any type of Buddy List and it will be logged out.
    Jabber accounts
Basically you have to use a Third Party app and do a Service Discovery and find out if the Jabber server you are using supports Off Line IMs
If there is an option to Register for that you would be able to set that in the Third Party app to turn it Off or On.
    Note
    I may have forgotten a  method I don't use.

  • My iChat account on Messages stays logged out Mountain Lion

Since I upgraded to Messages Beta while on Lion, my iChat account has randomly logged out constantly while in use...
The only way I could fix this was by restarting my computer, but eventually it would log out, and stay logged out, again.
Now having upgraded to Mountain Lion, and today updating to 10.8.1 (hoping it would fix the issue), nothing has helped.
In Mountain Lion, my Messages now logs out within 5 minutes of being logged in, and stays logged out.
I've tried fixing the port on the account, using/not using SSL, trying with/without using proxy, etc...
I'm not a pro with using these complicated internet thingys, but I just want my iChat to work (in Messages!!!!).
    PLEASE HELP ME

  • With new WiFi router, iChat keeps logging me out. why??

Two days since I plugged in new Verizon WiFi router and the iChat application keeps logging me out whenever computer is in idle mode.  I have to go to Preferences and change Port to 443 SSL and when that stops working, change back to 5190.   Any way to set this so I don't have to manually change the setting several times a day?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Can you tell me what you mean by Application Sleep ?
I have an iMac myself and tend to be using the computer for about 3 hours of an evening then I shut it down.
During that time any app I have open is in full use mode even if it is not the "front" app.
An AIM Login has been able to use an SSL Login since iChat 4.
It has been the Default  option in use.
However it does have issues if there are micro breaks in the Internet service you are getting.
This means that iChat or Messages gets Logged out but  the app will not log back in again Automatically.
Not using SSL has a better record of Logging back in on disconnection.
The Dropping completely under SSL can only be solved by Unticking "Use this Account" and then Selecting it again to Login afresh.
It should make no difference if the Buddy list(s) are set to Away as you are still logged in continuously in that state.
As SSL is supposed to be more secure it needs the definite manual intervention so that it is known that "you" wanted to Login.
Although micro breaks can happen when using Ethernet they are less common.
We are mainly talking about WiFi drops that effects constantly connected app like iChat and Messages that can then spot the smallest of "no internet" time that the Mac may not even register with the Menu Bar icon for Wifi and is not noticed in Apps like a Web Browser that then take a few moments longer to show a Page or the Mail app taking just a bit longer to fetch mail as these apps are in fact now the then users of the Internet connection.
I would try an check if the WiFi signal appears to vary around your house.
Use the Drop down from the WiFi icon in the Menu Bar to see the Bars  for your device.
It could be interference from other close by routers.
All routers can use several Channels (minor divisions in the radio band they use).
Most come factory set on a middle number of the range that can be applied.
It may pay to use a number closer to the end of the range (top or bottom)
iStumbler can be used for closer details including the channel info for close by routers.
It's last update was for Snow Leopard which means it should work on Intels.
You may need to go to System Preferences > Security and Privacy > General tab and set the Application Download options to "Anywhere" as it is not on the App Store.

  • Safari constantly logging me out of most websites...

For about the last week, Safari has been constantly logging me out of websites like Facebook, Twitter, Hotmail, etc. It is getting quite frustrating so I'm hoping someone has a fix for it. It will only stay logged in for half an hour max. Please let me know if you have any tips or fixes!

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Autofill tab. Click the Edit button. Delete Facebook, Hotmail, and any other site name you are having problems accessing then click Done.
Relaunch Safari and try logging in to one of those sites. If you still have problems, go back to Safari/Preferences then select the Security tab. Click: Show Cookies. Delete the cookies for those sites. Relaunch Safari and try again.
If you still have problems, quit Safari. Launch Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities) Select Passwords on the left. Delete the Facebook, Hotmail, and the "Safari Forms Autofill" keychains. Quit Keychain Access. Relaunch Safari. Navigate to Facebook. Enter your username and password as usual then click Yes when prompted. Same for the other sites.

  • Why is Twitter for iPhone constantly logging me out?

    Hi!
I have an iPhone 3GS (on iOS 6.1.3) and the Twitter (latest version) app constantly logs me out. Beforehand, the app will experience a freeze then the next thing I know is that I'm in the login screen of the app. This is ******* me off since logging back in again discards my settings and drafts data. Any explanation/help about this?
    Thank you!

I first logged in thru iOS (Settings). Then I was logged out after a few weeks of use. Then I tried removing my account completely from iOS so that it will also disappear from the app. Then finally, I tried logging in thru the app. Still, I was experiencing random logouts.

  • How do I make sure I don't constantly get logged out of my google account in Safari?

I use Google Reader, Calendar/Tasks etc as a bookmarked site in Safari on my iPhone (4S). I constantly getted logged out everyday and have to keep logging back in, authenticating (2 step auth. setup) and it's extremely irritating and I often just not use my phone and wait until I get home.
    Any ideas?
Your help would be greatly appreciated!

The Google app does exactly the same thing for me. It does however keep me logged into the app, but as soon as I choose which Google service I wish to use (ie Reader, Tasks etc) then I have been logged out.
Also, I don't use any exchange features, it's just a personal phone with no special setups.

  • Safari constantly logs me out of gmail, facebook, twitter, everything online. How do I stop this?

Since I got my iMac 3 years ago, I've had the issue of it constantly logging me out mid-email or post, of gmail, facebook, and everything else. Sometimes it lets me stay logged in for 30 minutes, others I will be logged out every 30 seconds, ten times in a row. I'm running OSX 10.6.8 and everything has been updated. I've tried updating, basic resetting of safari, and emptying the cache.

I'd try updating to Safari 5.1.5. (It contains some fixes for issues with running in 32-bit mode, for example, and that seems to be in the vicinity of what you're getting here with 5.1.4.)
