ICHAT deleted...

If i deleted Ichat, and i want Leopard, do i have to erase everything and start over? OR can i just install Leopard and will it have the new Ichat on it?

Mac OS X 10.5 will install iChat on your computer; if for some reason it doesn't or you don't want to upgrade, you can use Pacifist to extract it from your Mac OS X installation disks, running the current combo updater if applicable.

  • Ichat deletes added budies after 6 seconds!!??

    Hi Guys: Two items::
    1) I'm trying to add buddies to my ichat but the new additions are being automatically deleted after 6 seconds!!?? I've never seen anything like that. FYI--Added Leopard a week ago
    2) My sister is trying to invite me to an Ichat--but it arrives on my computer as "My sister's name has cancelled the invitation." What's going on.

    For 1)

  • Ichat deleted itself. Now I restored it and it says I can't use it.

So the other day I opened my computer after coming back from a trip. I had just used ichat the night before I left, but then I get home and the application is nowhere to be found on my computer. The icon is on the dock but a (?) just pops up over the icon when i click it.
Now that I restored it from the original discs that came with my computer, it is saying I can't use it. My guess is that it is doing this because I have OS X Snow Leopard, but my restore discs are back from tiger. I bought my computer when they had just released Leopard and instead of selling them pre-installed they just put a Leopard disc in the box for you to do a DIY install.
Anyone have ideas as to what I can do?

Do you have the Snow Leopard disk.

  • IChat deleted Address Book contents during .Mac sync?

This evening, my iChat app froze during a .Mac sync. I gave it a minute or two to try to "thaw", but since that didn't happen, I force quit it. When it restarted it, all my contact names were gone, reverted to their regular AIM names.
Of course, this was after iChat give me the initial setup windows, as if the computer was brand new.
It turns out that my entire Address Book contents had been wiped, the only address card present being the info I supplied about myself in the iChat setup dialogue!

    First, Close Address Book
    Open ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook. (~ = your home folder)
    Create an archive of AddressBook.data.previous
Then, log into .mac and see if your Addresses are still available in your online Address Book. If so, open your dot mac preferences, go to Advanced, and do a "Reset Sync Data" allowing your .mac address book to overwrite your local address book.
If your Addresses are not available online:
    Open ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook. (~ = your home folder)
    Drag AddressBook.data to your desktop.
    Rename AddressBook.data.previous to AddressBook.data
Open Address Book. If you're lucky your addresses, as they were prior to your last edit, should be back.

  • Can't send any messages in iChat, used to work perfect though

I've been having issues with iChat for a while now, I'm using it with AIM, if that helps.
It shows my buddy list and everything, and shows that I'm connected. I can talk to people over the camera and microphone, but every time I type in something and try to send it, the box with the messages gets deselected, and the messages isn't sent. I've tried restarting my laptop, re-installed iChat, deleted some files out of my library so I can set my AIM account up again, but none of it worked. I hope someone on here can help me...
    Thanks, Peter

    Hi,
So iChat in Logging in and you are seeing your Buddies in the list ?
However in any Text Chat text is not being sent ?
First in iChat > Preferences > Messages check the name of the Font you are using.
Open Font Book and check it is active.
I think it will be deeper than this so go to your Home Folder/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.ichatAgent.plist and restart the computer (iChatAgent is a background app that does not quit when you quit iChat).

  • IChat Agent frequently quits

    Hello All,
I have developed a problem in the last week that i can't seem to track down. Ralph and I spend some time trouble shooting it the other night and it seem to be find for the next 12 hours. the problem has returned and getting more frequent.
Symptoms: with iChat running in the background or if in use, the iChat agent suddently quits. i may or may not be able to get right back on after it happens.
Troubleshooting: i have repaired permssions, run all maintance scripts, rebuild desktop, in Terminal, used /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat -errorLogLevel 7 and see what logs in. quit ichat first, open terminal, run command line, restart ichat. deleted: apple.com.ichat.aim.plist. this worked both times as a short term fix.

  • Unable to choose a friend's .Mac username to add to buddy list

I'm having trouble trying to chat with a friend who has a .mac username.
I have an AIM username (used to have .mac while it was still free), and a neighbor's is [email protected]
I have her entry in Address Book (although with her username listed as AIM since .Mac isn't a choice), and have exchanged emails with her, but her name is always grayed out in iChat's buddy list, and neither I nor she are able to initiate a chat conversation, even just text chat.
If I try to start a chat, I can type her username, but I don't have a choice between AIM or .Mac in the popup sheet -- I can only select AIM.
I've tried quitting iChat, deleting the com.apple.iChat.SubNet.plist file, then starting iChat again. I've also checked that all the relevant ports are open and that we're not in each other's Blocked Users lists.
    What's next?

You have the option to choose between aim and mac in
that window if it concerns your own account.
You only should choose between the aim and .mac
option when you, and here's the solution, get a free
.mac account, and invite your girlfriend by clicking
the + on the buddylist and add her .mac account.
    So...
With me having an AIM account, and when I select New Chat With Person..., I won't be able to select .Mac as the service when it asks for her username... correct?
In Address Book, when I try to add her .mac username on her card, I don't have a choice of .mac -- I can choose AIM, Jabber, MSN, ICQ and Yahoo.
As far as I can tell, my old .mac username is still active, as I can make an account in iChat and log in. But, that didn't help either (already tried it before starting this thread).
I've got other buddies already who are on .mac accounts themselves, and I haven't had this problem with them.

  • Help!  jabberd out of control

We have a Snow Leopard Server installation - currently running 10.6.8
We don't use, and have not enabled iChat.  Nonetheless recently we've seen the server CPU running at 50% load, and upon investigating found the cause was the jabberd process continually starting and dying and restarting - and writing everything into the logs (and it was the syslogd process that was hitting the cpu most visibly).
Try as we might, we cannot find a way to stop the server thrashing away with jabberd - a pointless activity.
We've tried enabling and then disabling iChat, deleting the jabber database, and multiple restarts and so on.  Nothing seems to help.
Can anyone advise on how to stop iChat / jabberd from running?

Anyone got any ideas?  The problem is still there - I still can't understand why it is not possible to simply turn off Jabberd since none of its services are being used for anything.
It got into port scanning again today, so I killed the c2s process in activity monitor, and this is the trace of what happened when it restarted (as the thing won't stay killed).  Not sure it is meaningful, but this one contains statements about conference.server.local not being found.  Any clues there?
As always, any help most gratefully received

  • Corrupted preferences repeatedly

    Hi -
I just posted this to another thread because the discussion forum wouldn't allow me to create a new thread but now it does!
Anyway, here's the problem. Starting 2 days ago, when I log in, my iChat window is a gray box. In order to get my normal iChat, I have to quit iChat, delete the preferences, start iChat and go through the setup wizard. Every time I quit, it appears that the preferences become corrupted.
    I'm on a MacBook Pro, OS 10.4.8, iChat 3.1.7
    Any help? Thanks.
    Pat Christenson

    pxenson,
I notice these forums kind of have a "will of their own".
Now if this would be true, it would mean that objectivity has been lost.
The posters who are trying to help you on this forum are sincere.
But I think the message you posted:

  • Two part question 1) what happens if you  sign into messages beta on os x lion 10.7.5 after it expired? does the whole application not work or just imessage? 2) does installing messages beta on os x lion 10.7.5  delete ichat?

    Two part question
    1) what happens if you  sign into messages beta on os x lion 10.7.5 after it expired? does the whole application not work or just imessage? can you stil use AIM, jabbar, google talk, or yahoo?  if you open messages beta does it immediately tell you that messages beta expired?
    2) does installing messages beta on os x lion 10.7.5  delete ichat or just transform ichat into messages beta giving the illusion that ichat is deleted?

    Hi,
It was never completely clear whether it was just hidden or whether Apple ran a download page for iChat 6.
As the Download for Messages Beta was separate and "Deleted" iChat it would seem it would be another download for iChat 6.
iMessages will not function as it is only an Account type within Messages and iChat 6 does not have it.
Therefore messages on the iPhone will not sync to the Mac. (until you get Mountain Lion and Messages in that OS X version).
Mountain Lion and it's full version of Messages will not sync the iMessages that have happened in between the 14th December 2012  (end date of Messages beta) and the Install of Mountain Lion if you decide on that route.

    Hi,
Make sure All Buddies are dragged out of this group and into another group before Deleting it as it will hide those Buddies almost permanently.

  • Ichat keeps asking me to accept a buddy request from a deleted Jabber buddy

This person has been deleted from my list for months and as of a few days ago I get multiple requests a day to add him to my list. I don't think it is actually him sending this requests- I've accepted to see if he has something to say, but he has never initated contact. So why would ichat keep prompting me to add him to my list?

    Hi,
I have three Logged in valid AIM names (One actual AIM and two older @Mac.com names)
I also have a Jabber Account logged in and My Google Account as well.
I am not getting this problem.
The Jabber account provides a Transport that I can access from other Jabber accounts to MSN (Certain MSN Buddies are then on both the Google and Jabber Buddy lists in case I turn one of them Off).
    I don't use FaceBook.
I do know that at one time FaceBook offered their Chat either as a AIM group or as a Jabber Buddy list (you could set up iChat with either).
I have not heard of anyone doing it both ways.
I haven't heard of anyone suffering this "Bleed Though" you seem to describe.
Having said all that I also have not used my GoogleMail Address as a email linked with an AIM Name (I have seen someone use the full email as the AIM name though -but not report any problems)
Nor was it used to set up any of the @mac.com names I have (it is not linked to Any Apple ID)
I have not seen any info on AIM adopting Jabber Protocols or vice versa.
Face Book is the only place that I know of that might provide any osrt of crossover.

  • Deleted iChat due to problems.... how can i re-download it???

after having so many problems with my iChat and it kept freezing up... i figured i would delete it and re-install iChat. but so i found out, i cant find anywhere to download iChat!
can anyone help me? with a link to download it from, or if you have any better ideas please let me know.
    thanks...

Put in your install disk 1(the disk that came with your mac or the Leopard install DVD) then after the disk has opened double click on "Optional installs" then double click on the "Optional installs.mpkg".
Then when you get to "Custom install......." click on the triangle by appications and then tick iChat and then continue with the install.
When done download and install the 10.5.6 combo to bring iChat back up to date.

WordPress is in a class of it's own.  It began it's open source life as a blogging system but it has evolved into a powerful, feature-rich CMS (content management system).  In short, if you elect to use WordPress on your domain, you might just as well use it for your entire web site.
To work with WordPress, you will need a firm understanding of HTML, CSS and how PHP includes work.
WP requires you to set-up a dynamic work environment (see links below)
Find a WP Theme you like that won't require much customizing on your part.
