ICHAT VIDEO CAM NOT WORKING!!!!!!

i just purchased a mac pro. i use ichat rather then aim. i had a dell my whole life, so macs are fairly new to me.
whenever i request to ichat through video cam with a buddy my screen pops up with my video, but my friend will either see a black screen or it says “friend has denied your request”. i've only been able to have 1 video chat before. but my friend didnt have a web cam, so she only saw me.
it will also say “error...blah blah,....connection“
PLEASE HELP

The Original Poster had it working once which suggests he is doing something different now or has changed a setting.
I started with what I thought might be the most obvious but most easily overlooked.
(particularly with the Black pic bit)
You seem to be saying you have never had iChat working.
Please read this FAQ before posting more info http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=527902
It applies to iChat 4 as well

  • Ichat video is not working

I tried to turn video on iChat or skype.  How can I turn it on?

    HI,
From that post and the Question and Title I can't tell what you do on don't know and what you have tried.
iChat does not appear in Mountain Lion.
The app has gained a Function (iMessages) and has changed it's name (Messages no i)
In Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts you should list
    1) the iMessages account created with your Apple ID you "registered" on the first run on Messages
    2) The Bonjour Account (everyone gets Bonjour.)  It may not be active (Enabled).
    3) other accounts pulled through from your Lion days with iChat 6.  These may be:-
    a) AIM or AIM Valid Names(Includes @mac.com and @me.com)
    b) Jabber based ones that include Google Talk ID and Facebook Chat IDs
IF you have AIM or Jabber accounts and they are Enabled then go to the Window Menu > Buddies (CMD+ 1)
This line (or just the Keystrokes) will show you the Combined Buddy List (depending how many Accounts are Enabled)
The Buddy Lists can be separated in the General Section of the Preferences (Untick the one about Gathering the accounts into one list)
Once you have the Buddy Lists showing you should be able to see the Buddies.
The Green iCons and the Buddies menu work the same way they did in iChat.
If you leave these Buddy Lists open when you Quit Messages then they will reappear next time you use it.
    Alternative.
From the main Messages Window start a New Message (icon top left that looks like a box and pencil)
Then go to the Blue icon that appears top right.
    Select Buddies
    Chose Buddy
Once the Buddy is lists in the "To" spot the blue icon changes into a Video Camera icon
    You can also use that.
Technically you can add more names to the "To" spot and start multiway chats.

  • IChat video is not working after installed the 10.6.4 update

Hi. I'd like to know, how to solve the problem for my iChat video that has stopped working after I installed the latest update. I dunno what's the problem but it shows that, when I clicked on the preferences for iChat on the Audio/Video, I got "This computer does not support video chats". But that thing is, my iSight camera's working just fine, even the indicator's also lighted up. Is there any solution to this?
    I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Daniel.

    Hi,
The camera can only be used by one App at a time (unless you have certain Add-ons).
However if it works in other applications and not iChat I would check that the Video Menu > Camera Enabled is ticked.
This, if unticked, is the camera Off.
IF you have just done the 10.6.4 update I would Repair Permissions as well.
    Try rebooting the computer.

  • IChat video chat not working ANYMORE-can see friends, but they can't see me

My built-in iSight camera is working. Photobooth works fine. My iChat used to work perfectly, video and all. But starting two nights ago, when I bring up a video chat screen with anyone, the picture preview of me freezes and the person I am talking with can't see anything. Not even a blank screen comes up for them; they can only hear my voice. But oddly, I can see that person and hear them as well. It's just the visual part that isn't working.
Under Preferences on iChat, "Automatically open iChat when camera is turned on" is checked. So is, "Play repeated ring sound when invited to a conference." Bandwidth Limit: None. Microphone is set to "Internal microphone." Now, the preview screen works and shows me moving. But as soon as I bring up a video chat with someone, this screen freezes the picture (if I keep it open while opening video chat). Or, if I close it and then bring up a video chat, and bring up Preferences, the screen is black.
This is very odd because iChat used to work fine with video chat, but all of a sudden it is not working at all. Please let me know if you have any idea what I can do to fix it. Thanks.

    lemke,
You posted in your own thread that you have a Thomson-Alcatel Speedtouch modem.
Yours is likely to be a different problem.

  • IChat video call not working.

    Hi there,
Please kindly advise on my ichat video issue.
ichat indicated this computer does not support video chat.
We have two mac connected to a router named Ericsson Broadband and the other mac ichat video is working but my isn't working and my macbook pro is newest than the other one. I have gone through the same configuration with the other mac which is working on Preference-Security, Preference-Sharing, Preference-Network. All same configuration as the other mac which ichat is working.
I did a install application download from gmail for the video but thereafter is not working i demounted it.
I did saw from youtube to delete the com.apple.ichat.plist file and is not working either so i reinstalled the ichat application again and also not working.
We can use Skype to chat and gmail video but not on ichat video only audio chat only.
I will be appreciate if you can list out the check list for me or other to check all the possible way of error on configuration.
Thanks in advance for your reply

  • FaceTime does not connect, iChat video does not work, Skype video does not work (LION)

    Hi everyone,
    I am using OS X 10.7.3 2011 Macbook Pro 2.2 Ghz Intel Core I7 8GG 1333MHz DDR3 RAM 500GB HD.
What happens when I try to call someone in FaceTime: Webcam light is on and I see myself on my screen. It rings and after a while it says "X is not available for FaceTime (or similar).
In iChat I can text chat, but video calls do not work. In Skype, I can do audio talking, but when I try to use my video, it fails to connect.
This seems to indicate to me that there is a system-wide, rather than user or program-specific problem, in which my system cannot connect to others when using my webcam.
Can anyone offer any guidance on this matter? I am pretty tech savvy. On my home network I have tried port forwarding/opening and all that, without luck. I am worried that maybe I could have made a mistake in terminal or something some time ago, but I don't go in there very often and it is usually for very specific things.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am moving away for four months, and I really need this to work so that I can chat with my lovely girlfriend. Please see the notes below prior to commenting.
    Cheers
    Notes:
Internet is working fine. I use three different network, one of which is wired and works fine.
I have tried to create new users, still no luck
    Webcam works fine in PhotoBooth
I am logged into FaceTime properly (this is simple, right?)
Reinstalling OS X to fix this problem is not an option
I have tried FaceTime with several people with several devices (e.g., iPad, iMac, iPhone)
FaceTime on my iPhone works with other people on same network

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • IChat video suddenly not working

Can anyone help? I'm using iChat 4.0.8 on an almost brand new MacBook Pro. The video worked perfectly fine with my parents, and then suddenly stopped working when we moved. We're still using a wireless connection with an airport extreme. Funny thing is, the video works fine with my husband's MacBook Pro, and my brother who is in California. Why would it suddenly not work with my parents when computers haven't changed?
    please help!

    Did the Modem change ?

  • IChat video chat not working

    I am using iChat v 4.0.9 . I am using OS X 10.5.8
I have used video chat with no problems until today. I can only audio chat. I get a message saying "this Computer does not support video conferencing." I can use my iSight find in photo booth. I do not have internet sharing enabled. The bandwidth limit is greyed out under my iChat preferences along with Automatically open iChat when external camera is turned on. I saw on one forum to delete an ichat file in the USB folder (?) -- I am at a loss. Any assistance would be appreciated. ~ K

    Welcome to Discussions, sleepholow
Have you tried shutting everything down and restarting your modem, router (if you use one), and Mac in that order? Let each self-test complete before restarting the next device. A modem/router restart usually restores iChat video for me without need for other action.

My mother in law just got a 20" iMac (metal) and is connected to her wireless router.
I tried doing a video iChat with her, and it is not working. I am able to successfully test iChat with the three apple iChat test AIM buddy accounts.

I used my Video Camera to Skype about 2 days ago. And now I cannot Skype, or use my You Cam. It says things like "Camera not detected." I've updated Skype, and You Cam, and everything else. The white light turns on when I try to use my video camera as well.

    @sotrpls2 ,
Thank you for posting back with your notebook information.
here is a link to a video for getting access to the webcam.  You are going to have to check the connection cable to make sure it has not come off if it is still connected then you will have to replace the webcam.

  • Why is my video cam NOT working again after it had been sent in to get fixed already

    Model Number: QE024UA
Model Description: HP PAVILION DV6-6169US NOT
    Serial Number: 5CH1430SD9
I had my computer sent to get the video cam working... they sent it back and it worked for about 2-3wks and is not working again also when I call someone elses computer I can hear and see them but they can no longer see or hear me. Cant see due to video not working again again on my part but they used to be able to at least hear me.. Now neither works. I have written plenty of messages to HP (at least 3 that I remember) but with no reply. Not a happy camper right now about this. When I bought this computer It had everything I thought I needed and more for my basic use. I chat on facebook Play their game and browse the web.. watch my netflix. I never really needed a video cam but now since family life has changed and I live so far away from them I specifically ordered this computer cuz of its high quality in video plus I liked the fact it played Blue-Ray. I used to have a Dell that lasted me a good 5yrs of usage. I have had this less than 3mnths and twice the cam has gone out on me.

I'm avoiding buying anything else to use my iMac and had the same problem. I have PC headset with mic and headphones and also a Motorola bluetooth headset, neither worked how they should, no mic function:
I can use the pc headphones that I already had (just didn't input the mic jack part), and the iMac built-in mic together as I chat.
Just go to System Preferences and make the Sound settings for Output to built-in Headpones and Input to Internal Microphone -select "Use ambient noise reduction.
Its a get-around, but it works.

  • Ichat video preview not working in FCP

I am attempting to work with a client utilizing the iChat Theater preview in Final Cut Pro. His Mobile.Me address is in my buddy list. I initiate the preview in FCP and it says that I need to invite a buddy, yet when the chat box pops up and I attempt to initiate a chat by selecting "video chat" it will immediately grey out (the video chat line) when I enter any name at the bottom, leaving only "text chat" selectable. Does the "buddy" need to be logged into their MobileMe account beforehand for this to work?

    Hi,
Yes the Buddy needs to be Logged in.
In fact I would do it the other way round.
    I would have FCP launched.
    Start A Video Chat.
Select iChat Theatre from the File Menu of iChat.
Choose FCP in the Navigation thingy it should then go to the open item.
With smaller files and something that does not take to Launch you can drag the file over the Video Chat you are having.
Two white dotted line boxes appear giving tow option of Share with iChat Theatre or Send File.
