Ichat with one .mac account

My wife and I have one .mac account. Can we both use ichat at the same time to talk to each other or do we need two seperate accounts.

2hooks
You do need 2 accounts, but you can either get a free AIM screen-name or a free .mac account (a free-trial account will still work for chatting after the trial period).
Check this tutorial for how you get free AIM names:

  • Ichat with same .mac account?

Quick question. I have a powerbook and an iMac. I'm on the road a lot and want to be able to chat with the fam while away. Am I able to do this with just one .mac account? If so how? If not, any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

    Hi Martin,
The ISP gave a free account when user in any trouble, ms upfront. Antwerp, Belgium, BlackiBook, virgin, Skynet provider. Default.
Yesterday: iMac24" clean from manuf. User had Linksys only started after Mac request, start and initiation, (.Mac account existing) network connection by start procedure mac.
IMS upfront. iChat not yet initialised. iChat does video, IMS does not, I see
more simularities. Both occasions, same result. I was not excpecting this.
I have not understood this bit.
    What MS Upfront ?
(It is probably dead obvious but it escapes me at the moment)
    What is IMS ?
Do you mean you get a pop up from AIM Pages ?
What exactly is in the Trash can ?
    What IM Application ?

  • Create on 2 different Macs with one .mac account different websides

I have 2 Macs at different places, I have one .mac-account and I liked to create and publish websides independently on both Macs (for example: I have all my regular websides on my Mac at home, but when I am in my weekend-house, I liked eventually to take some pictures concerning a problem which just arouse, publish it on a quickly created webside and call a friend, so that he is able to have a look at this new webside and give me a comment).
Is it possible to do this without erasing my regular websides that I had already published on my home-Mac ?

I think it should work fine, as long as you give the sites different names.

  • How to ichat between two computers with one .mac account

My husband and I travel a lot separately and need to be able to ichat when one of us is away.
We have an iMac at home, and an iBook on the road (both about a year old with the latest software updated). We tried using an AIM account on one and our .mac account on the other which worked once, but now we can't seem to get it to work.
Can anyone help us with this?
    Thanks very much.

  • ICHAT NEWBIE--ONE .MAC ACCOUNT; TWO PARENTS

    Hi all,
I am separated from my family and we bought two iSight cameras and hoped to use iChat AV to keep in touch. We have a full .Mac account, and I thought that the 'multiple logins' feature would allow us to both logon and do video chat. But this doesn't seem to work. We can both see ourselves, but cannot invite each other to 'chat'.
Any advice on how to fix this is highly appreciated.
    Jim

    Hi Janes,
iChat 2.x could by defualt allow you to use the screen nmae on multiple computers in different locations amd text chat.
It would not let your do Video chats (or Audio ) only chats.
iChat 3.0 through 3.0.1 did not allow multiple logins.
iChat 3.1 does givee you the option of Mutiple logins but you will still be able to onlt Text chat with that.
You will need a separate screen name either a Trial .mac account which will work in iChat afteer the 60 days or an AIM name.
Links to both access points are on this page http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/work/11/

  • Is it possible to have 2 iWeb sites with one .mac account?

I am trying to create a business site with my CV (resume) and work credentials as well as a personal site with photos etc for family and friends. Is this possible to do with iWeb?

To keep sites totally separate for publishing you
need to keep their data files totally separate,
either by switching them in and out or by running
iWeb from separate user accounts. The data file is
    located at
    Users/username/Library/Application
    Support/iWeb/Domain
thank you -- that's gonna have to be the answer I guess, til they hopefully add a new feature.. my non-.mac site is for my kids' swim team, so I'll just create a 'swim team' user account for now. Not TOO inconvenient, I don't suppose.
If you have two sites in the same data file already
you can separate them by making a copy of the current
Domain, then deleting one site from the current
Domain, putting that somewhere safe, inserting the
old Domain copy, and deleting the other site from
that, giving you two Domains each with one site.
keeping my fingers crossed that this works.
    thanks again,
    Jo

  • I cannot to log in by iChat with my .Mac account!

I tried many times, but when I’m logging in with my AOL screen name or Netscape screen name it is EVERY time successful! When I changing to my .Mac account ([email protected]) - it doesn’t work! Why?! Could you explain me what should I do to solve this problem?
    Thank you in advance!
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi SINtez,
Does you @mac account have a passwors longer than 16 characters ?
If so make it shorter. AIM/AOL does not allow passwords as long as @mac does and this can cause problems.
I take it the password works properly elsewhere like MAil and iDisk stuff ?

  • One .mac account, 4 computers - does screen sharing work?

    Hi there,
I have one .mac account, however I have multiple computers running Leopard at home. Is it possible to have multiple ichat accounts on one single .mac account? Or do I have to get a .mac account for each computer of the household in order to be able to have them as separate entities on my contact list and therefore share the screen?
If it's possible with one .mac account, how would I have to set up my machines?
    Thanks for information,
    Christoph

    Hi Tony,
I am trying to access one of the machines from the outside. (I've installed a port forwarding accordingly). Would that mean I'd have to setup a VPN?

  • Cannot access shared external hard drive with other mac accounts

I cannot access a shared external hard drive with other mac accounts (all accounts are on the same macbook Pro). The shared external drive is shared via time capsule and is connected (of course) in USB. I see well this external hard drive as a shared disk with my main account. Yes shared option has been activated with the Airport Utility .. but when I open other account these othe accounts can see the external drive but cannot access to its content that is flagged with a no way sign. Strangely enough when I close my main account and start opening a new session with one of the other account then fine I can access the external hard drive and its content .. BUT then it is from my main account than I cannot access its content the no way sign showing ..
Looks like only one account at a time can access the content of this SHARED external hard drive .. any one as an idea on how to really make it a shared hard drive so that all accounts on the same mac can also access it ? I am at my wit ends on this case. THANKS ..

Results of my enquiries at Apple Genius Bar .. the guys found the problem interesting. They've been unable to provide a fix neither to give any explanation as to the reason why. To be fair I was not much impressed by the technical level demonstrated ..
In the mean time I have found that if account no.1 can see the shared external drive content and in such case account no.2 (same Mac computer) cannot see its content (only the external HD with a no way sign) this account no.2 can UNMOUNT (by ejecting) this external HD from account 1 and then remount it (just clicking on the TC shared part in a finder window) and .. see and access its content ; whilst account no.1 cannot see its content anylonger. Unless it unmounts the shared external HD and remount it .. then account no.2 can see its content anylonger. This can goes on an on.
So eventually YES the TC can allow to share a USB external drive between several accounts and a same Mac .. BUT this require to unmount and remount EACH time the external drive is accessed from a "no.2 account". So OK to share files with seldom access but not practical in case of frequent access needed.
I just I have now to figure how iTunes can automatically unmount and remount a shared external HD when it needs to access one of this shared HD content from on time account no.1 and then next time from account no.2. May be I am asking too much ..

  • Multiple users on computer - one .mac account

ok, I've seen other posts addressing similar issues, but not this specific one:
I have two users on my computer and one .Mac account. I would like each user to be able to edit and post to the same website using iWeb.
I thought that I could move the Domains.sites file to a shared location, but I can find no way of pointing iWeb to that location and then remembering that location later.
    any thoughts??

This might not be the right way but since I was having similar issues today, this something that worked.
I placed the domain.site file on my time capsule and the Imac which I created the pages with remembered the site.
On my mac mini I can access the site it if I open the domain.site file directly using the finder and it will then open iweb on my mac mini. If I open iweb directly, it seems to remember previous iweb sites that I created but not the current one.
    Hope this helps.
If anyone else has another way please let us know.

  • One mac account, two computers

I have one mac account and two computers. When I get up in the morning, I check my email. When I come to the office I recheck my email.
With my pop account through my ISP, my mail downloads at both places.
With my mac account, once I view it at home, I cannot see it at the office. Is there a way to resolve this issue.
    What am I doing wrong?
    SJ

it's IMAP. then it really should show the same messages on both computers. you can try rebuilding the mobileme inbox (mailbox menu->rebuild). but mobileme is a weird animal and is handled separately from all other accounts in Mail. I don't use mobileme so can't comment further on this, sorry. maybe somebody else who does can chime in or you could try the mobileme forum.

  • Advice about creating a website(s) with a .Mac Account - Newbie

    Hello,
I need some advice about creating a website with a .Mac Account.
    The Situation
For my media course we need to create a short film, then brand it, and distribute it along with press releases and press packs. No other group have thought about setting up a website - where it has all the company details, info about the Cast, Crew, Film, and maybe a link to the finished product.
    The Problem.
I'm the only one who has an Apple Laptop. We don't want to use the computer at the university as A LOT of students use them and every month or so they're given a clean install.
I've designed my own 'virtual series' website to showcase my screen writing work, but I haven't uploaded it. I was waiting until I finish university in the summer before I activated my 1 year .Mac Account. I have a .Mac Account, which has still got to be activated.
How do i go about creating my 'video production' site, if I've already got my own created and sitting in iWeb?
How could I just 'launch/upload' my 'video production' site without putting my own up as well?
Should we buy a separate .Mac Account?
Oh, and what would the address be, so that we can put them on business cards.
THANKS for any and all help.

You don't need to start a new thread - you just use the 'Reply' button at bottom right of the answering post. Anyway as you're here...
You should start by going to System Preferences (or is it called Settings in ML?)>iCloud and clicking the Sign Out button. Then sign back in again. Your iCloud data will disappear from your Mac when you do this (but not from the server) - it will reappear when you sign back in. Alternatively if the message identifies an account which is signed in at System Preferences>Mail, Contacts and Calendars you should log out and in there.

  • 2 Site in one .mac account

Can iWeb publish 2 sites in one .mac account?
    Example:
    Site 1
    http://web.mac.com/myaccount/iWeb/Site/Welcome.html
    Site 2
    http://web.mac.com/myaccount/iWeb/Site2/Welcome.html (protected with password)
    Can anyone advise me? Thanks

How do you keep the two sites seperate?
Do you have two Domain.sites files?
If you have them in seperate folders, see this thread:
