ICloud backup is going to take 20 hours!!
Hi folks,
Hope you can help with two iCloud problems.
1) iTunes was happily running on a Vista laptop. Everything worked fine. I removed the hard drive and installed a bigger hard drive running Windows 7. Installed iTunes (ver 11.1.5.5) on the new hard drive. I was able to swap the old and new hard drives to get the laptop to boot into Vista (old HDD) or Win 7 (new HDD).
I now get a message using the new HDD that if I want to synch my iPhone, it will delete the content on the phone and it will synch with the new iTunes on the new hard drive.
I don't want to do that. What I want to do is backup the phone to iTunes on the new hard disk and add another album which I am trying to rip and import from CD (subject of another question in the iTunes forum).
2) the last iCloud backup was in January (using the old hard disk). When I try to do an iCloud backup on the new hard disk, it is telling me it will take 20 hours !!!
I have backed up the phone to my pc using the iTunes installation on the new hard drive.
For both questions, the old hard drive is non-bootable - Windows Vista has scr*wed up and although I can browse the files and folders on the drive when I use it as an external HDD, when I swap it into my laptop, Windows boots to a black screen with an arrow cursor and won't do anything else (and no, it won't boot into Safe Mode either, nor will Windows Recovery Centre sort it out) - sad times!
Any help gratefully received. Treat me as a 'noob' and please give any instructions in clear, step-by-step manner (assuming complete ignorance on my part).

How long is icloud backup restore supposed to take?
I backed up my stuff to icloud and restored backup to get everything back on my iPod again. Well that was yesterday afternoon and now it's Christmas in the morning and still nothing is on my iPod except my contacts. My over 1,000 photos and 4 apps plus messages and small are not there. Is this normal? Says my iPod 4g is 3.6 GB
It can take many hours. It depends upon your network speed and server load. The server load may be high because many new Apple devices are being setup today.

Use of phone during iCloud backup?
My very first iCloud backup is going to take about 4 hours. My question is, can I "lock" the phone and/ or use other apps while the download is in progress or will this "interupt" the process and cause it to stop?
It's possible to use the phone while it is restoring a backup (after it restarts), but I haven't seen any documentation on whether or not it's an issue when you are backing it up. If you have to use it I suppose you could try. If the backup fails, back up again.

ICloud backup 6 hours long, stopping itself after 2 hours...

Since i've upgraded to iOS 5, i have multiple problems such as the title says, the iCloud backup is estimated at 6 hours long... And it automatically stops after about 2 hours. Another major problem is that i can't sync my iPhone 4 with iTunes through Wi-fi, my iPhone looks for my MacBook about 2 or 3 minutes and stops itself, without any error message... I hope some one will be able to help meThe iCloud backup still doesn't work... I'm getting fed up with that, please help me guys...

my iphone 4 has been on "icloud backup" for the past 24 hours. I can't use my phone nor interrupt the back up. How can I get out of this?
How long it takes to restore from an iCloud backup will depend on how much "stuff" you have to restore and how fast (or slow) your Internet connection is.
If you still have the 4S and it hasn't been wiped, it might be more effective to back it up to your computer using iTunes and restore the 5s from that instead. -
I can't find my last icloud backup
I've changed my iphone 4 with a new one, always 4, but now I can't find the last Icloud backup that i did few hours ago..
What can i do?If your replacement phone has already been updated to the latest iOS (6.1.3), you should be able to access any available iCloud backup. Try going to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Data, go through the setup screens on your phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup, then sign into the iCloud account your backed up your old phone to. See if the backup you're looking for is listed. If it isn't, it must not be in your iCloud account.
If you still have the old phone, you can back it up to iTunes instead and restore to that backup. -
Is Lightroom expected to take hours to complete "Import from Catalog" or is something wrong?
Im trying to import a catalog with about 2500 images into a "master catalog" with about 1500 images. It has taken hours for it to complete checking duplicate and then do the import after that. I restarted and now it is working "checking for changed duplicate photos".
Is this meant to be atrociously slow or am I missing something?Evidently this is designed to be attrociously slow... I can't think of any good reason why we would see this result otherwise. It's not like this is exactly a new issue with LR5.4... Realistically, this is probably a fairly low priority item for the development team in comparison, say... to the develop module image processing performance.
On a system that, practially speaking, has no effective resource bottlenecks: 2013 Mac Pro with disk that averages 850+MB/s read and write, 64 GB or RAM, 24 CPU cores, and a whole lot of OpenGL/CL GPU available, This is still going to take HOURS...
LR 5.4 is "checking for changed duplicate photos" between two 137K photo catalogs (~2.8 GB each) where I expect there to be approximately >90% duplicates.
I am seeing negligible disk I/O and it appears that LR is constrained to a single thread on a single CPU core for the entire scan/compare loop across the catalog data.

Sampling the process via Mac OS Activity Monitor, the call graph shows that the "AsyncDataServer" thread is processing the majority of the workload during the "cheking for changed duplicate photos" phase of the catalog import.
Considering this appears to be a single thread attempting to process all of the catalog data iteratively, it would be my primary suspect to consider for more love and attention towards parallelization of this code, perhaps via OpenCL on the GPU if each comparison is discrete and meets the various criteria for efficient GPU processing, otherwise, at least refactor for multi-threaded execeution on the CPU(s)...

I'm having problems backing up my iphone 4 to icloud since 13/04/2012. First it says it's going to take 6 hours, then it says backup failed. Following instructions-connected to wi-fi, plugged into PC & locked the phone (though never had any problems like this before), but still no difference. Any ideas/similar problems?
unfortunately there are tons of people with this issue but Apple has not given any answers for us to fix this issue yet. I wish they would allocate more people to solving these problems when they roll out new versions of itunes along with new hardware.

My backup to iCloud seems to be taking so long, I don't even have any confidence that it is working. Going on 16 hours. I want to use my phone, but it says if I stop it will return my phone to initial state. Do I lose all my apps?

The first back up to iCloud may take some considerable time. Just how long isn't really possible to say without knowing how much is in your back up and your connection speed.
What many people don't realise is that upload speeds are often significantly less than download speeds, so for example a user may have a download speed of 40 Mbps, but only 1 Mbps for uploading. As a rough guide it will take around 2 ¼ hours to upload 1 GB of data at 1 Mbps. -

I started a icloud backup of my iphone last night before I went to bed as I was told at the apple store yesterday that it could take up to 3 hours to backup. When I woke up this morning it was still going and said 15 hours remaining. After an additional hour or so the screen still read 15 hours remaining. I need to understand how I am suppose to backup the device to icloud without having to take this long as I cannot be without my phone for an entire day or longer due to work requirements.
If you're in recovery mode, all data is ALREADY lost. You've no choice but to restore.

ICloud backup is taking hours !!
My iCloud is taking 42+ hours to backup on my iPhone5. Its has being backing up for the past two days each time it gets one third of the way there and it decides to cut out completely therefore when it has to start up again it goes from the begining. Can any one help?

Cannot restore iPhone from iCloud - takes hours then loses connection
Hey Guys,
I had to restore my iphone as it was doing weird things.
Long story short, when I try and restore from icloud it say it will take 6 hours or so (on other occasions it has said 15) and then about 3 hours in it says lost connection.
This is INCREDIBLY frustrating!
I have a solid internet connection that although not super speedy, at 5MBPS it should be enough to download the data. I am stuck!
I have a backup I just cant get to the thing!
Any ideas on what else to try>?
There is no way of contacting icloud support unless I want to pay an incidient fee which is pretty rubbish in my eyes!Your information could've been stored on someone else's iCloud account, therefore you have to set up as a new phone.

Time Machine hourly backup to Time Capsule takes 1 hr for 5MB
Lately our iMac (Snolw Leopard 10.6.8) seems to be constanly backing up.
I watched it carefully in the Time Macine preference window.
When starting and it says Preparing xx,xxx items with the number going above 100,000.
Then it says backng up Zero MB of 5.1 MB.
Then it takes 35 minutes to copy the first 100 KB or so. Finally it gets happy and then finishes.
Nex hour it goes through the whole sequence again.
I got frustrated and deleted the backup from the time capsule and started from scratch.
The full backup took 4 1/2 hours for 165GB. One hour later it starts the whole 1 hour to back up 5 MB process again.That should have said next hour it starts the whole 40 minutes to back up 5 MB process again.

Hello pls help, Why is my Iphone 4S saying its going to take over 15 hours to back up ?
My iphone 4S has never backed up in the 2 years that I have had it. I dont know how to save all the stuff off it so I can do an update and if I try to back it up it says its going to take over 15 hours to back up??

Try the backup again. If still slow, i.e. more than 15 minutes, you likely have a USB problem.
