ICloud email setup bugs

I have seen two symtopms for what appear to be the same core bug with iCloud email setup. Possibly related to having a legacy .mac/.me account
When I attempt to setup an iCloud account it won't allow email to be enabled, throwing the error:
Mail can't be enabled at this time.
Wait a momnet and then try turning on Mail again.
I can sort of work around this by going into Mail and then adding the email account diretly from Mail Preferences. However any attempt to change the settings for this account also results in an error:
Invalid Incomming Mail Server
The "Incomming Mail Server' field can not be empty.
There is no work around for this. The filed is auto populated based on being an iCloud account and is not editable. I believe that the first bug may be related to this this, that proper configuraiton of iCould email is just broken.
Hopefully there will be a fix soon, but for the time being you can at least get at your .mac/.me/iCloud email by adding the accout directly in Mail app. Unfortunatly you can't make any changes to the settings, such as storage options etc.

BTW I am already signed with my apple id and all else is switched on and syncing fine. The probles only occurs when I try and "turn on" mail.

  • HT201342 @icloud email setup notification - When?

I still haven't received my @icloud email account setup notification.  Have others been notified, and is there a way to prod apple to get this done before the open ended "few weeks" advertised to get this done?  Its been 4 weeks since IOs6 was released.  I wouldn't care other than I am trying to dump my existing email account and want to use my @icloud account.

I haven't heard of anyone having recieved the notification email. However, some people (including me) have found their @icloud.com address is working for both incoming and outgoing email despite not having been notified.

  • IPad 2 keeps crashing for new icloud email setup

My iPad 2 16g.. At first it was safari if I scrolled on a website for a little bit. Now it's my icloud email set up.
I went to create a new icloud email, it got me to almost the full set up and then it randomly just closed. I did it again and I had to start from the very beginning.
I have reset my iPad a couple of times. I have deleted apps I'm not using, I have a total of 3 movies and 2 CDs. That's all. I have deleted most of my pictures so that I have more memory. I can't figure out how to delete all the iMessages that it says are saved. I delete them in the iMessage app. No matter how low I bring my memory down it still crashes. It has done it in a few apps that I downloaded. I really need a new email!! I don't have a. Computer so I can't ever back anything up, but I don't really use this for anything that important besides games and information apps, oh and movies.
Any help and advice would be very appreciated

Standard troubleshooting steps in order are as follows:
Power your iPad off and on.
An iPad reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release. This is similar to a computer restart.
Restore your iPad with iTunes from your iPad's backup.
Restore your iPad with iTunes as a new iPad or not from the backup.
If no change after the last step, your iPad has a hardware problem. The iPad includes a one year warranty.

  • ICloud/email setup in Yosemite

I have several "parked" email addresses (i.e. myname.co.uk)  that I have been using for years (successfully) as my outward face for gmail and iCloud accounts. I manage my URLs/email addresses with a web interface and web/email gets redirected to my iCloud accounts and webspace. It has worked flawlessly for 10 years with the various iterations of Apple mail.
However - after years of this working - the process I use has stopped working  and Mail no longer lets me send when I select my PARKED addresses. Can any one help me?
This is how it used to work.....
In older system versions, i used to be able to use iCloud / .Me / .Mac accounts in mail, send from them by my identity comes up with my real name and parked address.
In earlier systems, the way I did this was to put several emails with commas in the "email address" line - and they could appear as choices when I created new emails.....
When I created a new email - to sent via iCloud (or predecessors) but had my name and chosen email address in the header for  the person  receiving the email.
Now.... this set-up part still works! Except with iCloud accounts - you now get a drop down in Mail Preferences that lets you opt for:
Custom / [email protected] / Edit email aliases
In this scenario, I use "Custom", add the email addresses separated by commas - and it still gives me them all as options when i start a new email.
When I write an email i get the choice of accounts as before
However the email won't send via iCloud (although I can still make it work via gMail) unless I change it back to an iCloud address.
Any thoughts about how I can send email with my own address (i.e. not an iCloud email displaying) but using the iCloud services as the "back end"?
    Any thoughts
    R

    Hi Abbas,
In order to correctly send and receive e-mails from Business One,
the following settings need to be set or checked:
    - Define the users correct e-mail address
    - Start the SBO Mailer Service
    - 'Schedule' a time interval of every 2 seconds in Service Manager
    - Define the SMTP address in Service Manager 'settings'
    - Set the 'connection' to the Server Name or IP address of the server
to where you want to connect.
    - Select the 'Database' in Service Manager.
    - Try to Add Receipient in SAP Business One and send the email.
Please also refer to SAP note 782611 & 693306 for more information.

  • ICloud OS X email setup issue

Hi need some help with an iCloud email setup issue that doesn’t seem to have been covered by other posts or the Apple help factsheets.
Used my old mac.com Apple ID to set up an iCloud account which now shows as having my iMac as a linked device. To use iCloud Mail was prompted to create a new email address which I could do by turning on Mail in iCloud settings.
I signed into iCloud via my iMac and having deselected default options to use iCloud for Contacts etc arrived at the account page which has the various options on the RHS and my mac.com ID info on the left.
Ticked the Mail option on the RHS was asked to “choose an iCloud email address” underneath the box where you enter the chosen email address was a note saying “you cannot change your email address after creating it”. When I tried to  set up the new iCloud email address got a prompt saying “you cannot change your email address after creating it”.
    Help!

You need to know Comcast's settings for incoming and outgoing server when setting up your OSX Mail app. The info should be somewhere on Comcast's help web page.

  • ICloud email - Sent Messages using up storage, multiple "Sent" folders

Several questions about iCloud email that I cannot find answers to on Apple's KB articles:
First, my situation.... I have the standard 5gb account and use it primarily for email and do not backup to iCloud.  Right now my Account Info in OS X Mail shows 0% usage in the graphic, and no info next to "Currently in Use" and "Total Available", which does not agree with what System Preferences reports (300 MB of usage my iCloud Mail).  That's a separate issue and most likely a bug in OS X.  One of my "Sent" folders is showing the majority of this usage.  My primary issues are as follows:
    1.     I have iCloud email setup on my iPhone, iPad, and Mac, all systems running latest OS X and iOS versions.  Why are there 2 Sent folders, and two Trash folders showing in Mail?  Why is there a Deleted Messages folder on my Mac Mail app if I already have a Trash folder?  On iPhone and iPad I also have 2 Sent and 2 Trash folders, as well as the web interface if I log into iCloud in a browser.  This is not logical to me at all.
    2.     Why is my Sent folder taking up so much space?  Currently it is showing the most usage by far.  I don't keep emails around and keep my inbox very small.  But I see that the Sent folder has messages from January 2013 in there.  What's Apple's method for a user managing their 5gb of iCloud space as far as Mail is concerned?  Do they expect me to go to my Sent folder, of all places, highlight all the messages, press Delete, THEN go to the Deleted Messages folder, and the hit trash again?  I find it hard to believe that Apple expects users to perform this set of tasks to free up space.
    3.     Is there a way to have only ONE Sent foler, and ONE Trash folder, synced across all devices?  This, to me, would make the most sense and would fit with Apple's reputation for simplicity.
    Thanks in advance folks!

  • HT204053 I setup an apple id using my gmail email address from my iphone and then I decided to change my email to icloud.  So I setup an icloud email account. Now I want to change my apple id to my icloud email account, but it wont let me.  How can I merg

I just got an iphone recently and I started my apple id using my gmail email address. I decided to change email from gmail to icloud so I setup an icloud email account and now I have two apple id accounts.  All my primary information is in the gmail apple id account and i just want to merge the two together.  I've tried changing the apple id on the main account to the icloud email, but it says it already exists.  How can I merge these two accounts without deleting one or the other?
    Thanks
    pallhues

    You can't merge iCloud accounts.
You could move all your calendars contacts etc over from the account you don't want to the one you do, it's not simple but about all I can suggest.

  • My wife just purchased an iPhone. She has an Apple ID but it is linked to her gmail address. She wants to create her own iCloud email address but the setup tools don't let us do that.

I have aniCloud account  apple id, linked to a MobileMe address (which I converted to an iCloud account)
My wife just purchased an iPhone. She has her own Apple Id -- but it is linked to a gmail address.
I wanted to create a new iCloud email address and account for her, but the Mail Setup won't let us use .icloud and keeps referring her back to log into the gmail server.
How can we convert her gmail address to an icloud address if Mail Setup refuses to let her use icloud.com?
One other issue: Her iTunes are linked to my account, and my wife would like her own separate account.

Actually, I want her to have a separate iTunes account. Our marriage is fine, but our musical tastes are vastly different  That's another issue; right now want to focus on getting my wife in .icloud email address.

  • How should i setup my Alias iCloud email to be my the DEFAULT email?

Is there is a way to setup my Alias iCloud email to be my the defualt email?
    Please advice
    Thank you in advance

Thank you Roger for your quick responde, really appreciate it, however; this is not actually what am looking for, it helps though.
Lets say for example that you create a new iCloud account and called ([email protected]) then later on, you created an Alias for that account and called ([email protected]).
Now, the ([email protected]) is your default email account which you use to login through iClould.com, restore your i device and so on, however; you can't use your Alias email ([email protected]) for this things, because basically its not your default account.
My question is, how should i setup ([email protected]) to replace ([email protected]) to be my default iCloud account?

  • How do I setup another iCloud email address

i do I setup another icloud email address??

Each iCloud account only has a single associated email account.  You can create additional alias addresses that will receive email in your existing account inbox, but it's still the same account.  This explaines how to add an email alias: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm6b1a490a.
If you need to create a new iCloud email account you will need to create a second ("secondary") iCloud account on your Mac by going to System Preferences>Internet Accounts>iCloud, sign in with a separate Apple ID, then check Mail in this account.

Can somebody show me the details to set it up in detail.
    Thank you.

  • How can I setup an iCloud email counter in Safari?

Would anyone know if there is a way to set up an iCloud email counter in the Safari toolbar so that one can see a notification if an email arrives to my iCloud email account?
Or would you know if it is possible to add to iGoogle internet portal a "gadget" which would perform the same function.  I am using such a gadget for my Hotmail and gmail accounts.

    Hi Clay
Thank you for the response,  It is appreciated.  My Apple Mac OS is Lion 10.7.4.  Am concerned upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8 as some perhaps some (or perhaps many?) of the applications I use on daily basis may not be ready yet? Should I not wait 3 or 4 months? When I upgraded to Lion I had issues with three if not four of the applications which were trying to catch up (Sonos, VLC etc.).
I will certainly look for Growl.  Thanks again for the good support.
