Icloud panel deleted my photos without warning

My icloud panel stopped syncing.
I logged out and get the message where my photos are located.
So far so good.
Then I logged in again and all the photos were deleted from that location without warning!
How can I retrieve them back?
The software should have warned me!
I feel really angry and frustrated.

I appreciate your help.
I did not lose any data in my profile (C:\Users).  I lost my data on my second disk that had data on it (f:\VirtualMachines).  This disk had lots of other data on it that was not part of my User profile.
When I put in the drive and rebooted, RapidDrive Advanced somehow became activated without any warning screen and simply deleted all the data on F:\ and moved my user profile from C:\Users to F:\Users.  I am in the process of moving the data back from F:\Users to C:\Users fine, and I have this data backed up
However, the previous data on F:\ (virtual machines and other files) appears to have been lost.  It is not in the Recycle Bin, and multiple attempts to use Undelete software have so far failed.
Does RapidDrive Advanced delete and recreate the partition on the second drive, does it format, or does it do a simple delete?  I'm trying to find a way to recover those files

  • Time Machine Deletes Old Backups without warning!!

I have just lost loads of pictures and emails when my Timemachine deleted old backups. I was so happy to have an easy way to keep my iPhoto cleaned up while keeping all the photos for the future. I would load my all the photos from my camera, backup with TimeMachine and delete the "bad" unwanted photos, confident in the knowledge that these pictures are still there on my external. I looked forward to some future date when someone would write an easy piece of software to consolidate old iPhoto libraries and even go through TimeMachine and consolidate those photos too. But until that fantasy event, my pictures, even though not wanted were still there.
    Not any more!!
I replaced my hard drive and reloaded my laptop from Timemachine and I think that was the event that sparked the dump.
There should be a special check box to make sure that NO backups are automatically deleted, EVER. They should be a way to make them Sacred!!
There should be a way to create a separate backup just for iPhoto because right now, there are no good ways to easily break apart or merge iPhoto libraries. At least what I was doing worked, (well.... until it didn't).
    Any ideas??

True, TM is not a classic archival system, but until the drive is full, the difference is moot.
    No, the difference isn't moot.
I still have on my TM HD every file I ever had because it's only 1/2 full.
    No, you don't. Read on...
Time machine has three levels of backups:
    1) hourly - deleted after 24 hours
    2) daily - deleted after a week
    3) weekly - deleted only when the disk is full - these are the only deletions you will be warned about
Time machine is always deleting files. Every time it backs up, it deletes files.
But the OP's real question is why he was never warned about the old backups being deleted, as TM says it will do, archival stuff notwithstanding. Apparently TM simply ignores the user's request to be warned.
    No, it doesn't.
That being said, as I asked in a post not too long ago, "how many have had a warning from TM that old backups are being deleted?" as one would expect when the TM preference box, "Warn when old backups are deleted" is checked.
It appears to me to be a bug.
I ask again if anyone has gotten this warning.
Nobody answered my previous post with a yes.
    Yes.
Because Time Machine continually cleans up behind itself, it tries very hard to ever delete the weekly backups. The only time I've gotten the deletion warning was when my disk was full. I think I just avoided the problem by removing my old Parallels images from Time Machine and got back an extra 70 gig or so - good for another six months.
This is not a bug. This is how Time Machine works. It is unfortunate that the original poster did not fully understand this. The fact is that Time Machine backs everything up. If you create 100 files, it backs up the folder with 100 new files. If you delete 100 files, it backs up the folder with 100 less files. Then, the next day, it deletes old backups. The only one it keeps is the last one, with 100 less files.
It is correct to say that Time Machine is not an archival system. It is a backup system. If you want to save your files forever, you need to copy them to a location that isn't under the control of any sort of automatic software.

When you take phones on your iphone and back up to the icloud, if you delete the photos on your iphone, will the photos still be in the icloud for use later?

The backup should contain your camera roll photos but the only way you could later access the photos would be to restore your phone to the entire backup.  Also, it's not always reliable.
To be sure you photos are backed up, regularly import them to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.

  • How do I cancel my Revel account and delete my photos without canceling my Adobe account?

In August, I set up and tried using Revel in conjunction with Photoshop Elements 12 on my iMac, iPad, and iPhone.  I now regret doing so and am totally dissatisfied with the functionality of Revel.  I was not able to get mobile albums successfully set up via Photoshop Elements 12 so I could share with others, which I thought would be one of the nice features.  Revel also put duplicates of all my photos back on my computer in a separate folder.  While I started out with over 30,000 photos on my computer, I soon realized my catalog now had well over 60,000 photos.  I got so fed up that I have deleted Revel from my iMac and other devices and have disabled Revel in the Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer so that it won't operate anymore.  I also deleted the 30,000 duplicate photos from my computer.
I still presumably have, however, over 30,000 photos in the Revel Cloud that I want deleted.  I also unfortunately signed up for a one year Revel subscription which I can't figure out how to cancel, although I luckily did not sign up for automatic renewal.  I assume Adobe will hold on to my money and that I may be stuck with the $63.59 including sales tax that I paid for it.  How can I get my Revel account closed, the photos deleted from the cloud, and my $63.59 refunded?

Just stop using it, and uninstall the iCloud control panel in exactly the same way as you would any other software.

  • How can I stop iCloud from deleting more photos on my PC?

I've been frustrated with the slowness of the photo stream and iCloud. So I have often just plugged my phone into my PC and manually backed up my photos into my Stream folder (the same folder that is chosen in the iCloud menu).
So I had 1000's of photos on my PC from the last 4 or 5 years.
    Gone.
For some reason I now go to my Photo Stream on my phone, or on my own PC, and not only do NONE of the photos that are left match (the ones I can see on my phone are not the same as the ones on the PC) but thousands of photos that were on my PC, manually backed up there by myself, are gone. There are only 20 on my PC now. 23 when I look at my photo stream on my phone.
Another odd thing, I took several photos last week, had them on my phone, in my Photo Stream, and on my PC in my Photo Stream. I often delete photos from my phone once they are backed up on the Stream, or on my PC. So I was surprised to see that ONE of FIVE photos I took in a series was still in my photo stream, and on my PC, but the other FOUR photos from that same moment in time are gone.
I want some of these photos back. Many memorable events from the past four years are just gone.
    Not funny, Apple. Fix this.
(P.S. I have 2.3 terrabytes of photos backed up on the PC in question, and duplicated on two other drives in secure locations. Other than one batch of 30 or 40 photos going bad on a card in camera, I have NEVER lost an archived photo before this.)

    Hi iprover,
Let me first say that I am NO EXPERT with anything Apple and really have only started looking into this iCloud stuff a few hours ago because I'm trying to help my mom free up some space on her iCloud. But anyway, here's what I'm learning and what I THINK might be happening to you.
Also, if any Apple support people (do they browse the forums to dish out helpful hints?) or people who probably know infinitely more than me about this stuff, please do chime in and confirm / correct my statements!
    This is what I gather.
iCloud for Windows is set up with a local folder (let's call it "C:\Users\Administrator\Pictures\iCloud Photos\My Photo Stream") where iCloud will store photos uploaded to the Photo Stream. This will allow you to view your Photo Stream photos on your PC.
This does not mean that this is a PC backup of your Photo Stream photos, but just a way to view your Photo Stream from your PC. That being said, the general Photo Stream rules apply: 1. No videos are on the photo-stream, and 2. Photos on the Photo Stream will be removed after ~30 days and/or after hitting the Photo Stream limit of 1000 photos.
My guess is that the iCloud Windows App will delete photos from the local folder that are older than ~30 days and/or delete all but the most recent 1000 items if the 1000-item limit is reached.
That is a scary thought! I really hope you did not lose all your pictures, but my guess is that the iCloud local folder is NOT meant for backup but instead is the iCloud Windows App's sandbox for updating and managing Photo Stream photos.
All that being said, I'd say it's important to back up your photos in a separate folder not related to the iCloud local folder.

  • FURIOUS!! - Automatic iPad Sync Deleted All Apps Without Warning

My iPad, 3rd Generation (6.0), is set to wirelessly sync with iTunes (10.7) in Mountain Lion (10.8.2). Today I opened iTunes and was greeted with the a message advising me that the iPad had new apps that were not yet synced back to iTunes. I was in a rush so I declined to sync the new apps. But as soon as I pressed the button, iTunes proceeded to delete all of my apps from the iPad, including all the data associated with those apps (including PDF files with annotations). I attempted to restore from an iTunes backup, but I got nothing back.
    My objections:
    (1) This is seriously unpredictable and harmful behavior in iTunes.
    (2) My iTunes backup utterly failed or was overwritten after I declined to transfer the apps
    (3) This is not a new problem: See http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=889859
    My feelings:
Now I have to spend hours recreating what I had on the iPad. I'm a patient man, and very computer savvy. But this has me wanting to throw my iPad through the window.

    To JimHdk:
Will do. I checked my support options before posting, but they are fairly limited after 90 days. What I really wanted -- which is apparently too much to expect -- is for someone from Apple to engage me on this without my having to pay for additional support. My product is less than 6 months old, but Apple offers  support only out to 90 days. The support tree ends in two places: (1) with my paying for  telephone support or (2) submit my question to the community. That seems like pretty sparse support for a premium product.
Apologies for winding up here, but this is where I was directed by Apple. My hope was that there would be Apple reps trolling these forums with their ear to the ground. But maybe that's too much to hope for.
    To Julian:
Sorry for shouting. Apple gave me no other place to go with my frustration.
What do I want fellow apple users to do? Be warned, I guess.
I now see the fine print under the notice which states:
"If you do not transfer these purchased items to your iTunes library, they wll be removed from the iPad."
It looks like that's exactly what happened. But that's very odd for two reasons:
    (1) I've had most of those apps for quite a while and they've been transferred back to iTunes in previous syncronizations.
    (2) Why should iTunes force delete apps that I've bought and paid for on my iTunes account, but for reasons of my own have chosen not to sync? It seems extreme. And it's a wide open window for this kind of unintended damage.

  • Where can I find how to delete duplicate photos without manually deleting one at a time?  Photos were duplicated when I did a sync with my phone and iPad.  Thanks.

How can I easily delete all duplciate photos from my entire library?  I really don't want to do this manually as I have many photos.  When I did my sync with camera and photos using my iPhone and iPad many of my photos were duplicated.  Thanks

Photos does not have a built-in duplicate remover.
Try to restore the Photos library from before you synced and duplicated the photos from your backup.
Most third party duplicate cleaners do not yet work with Photos, but there will be soon one that works with Photos:
    ttp://www.fatcatsoftware.com/comments/announcing_powerphotos
Also, Duplicate Annihilator is now available for Photos.

  • 5800 deleting email headers without warning!

My 5800 happily connects and retrieves new email headers from my (sky)Gmail server. However, any email headers that are in my phones inbox are automatically deleted, even if they haven’t been read. This is obviously extremely annoying. Any Help appreciated.

    Pretty spooky in any case.

  • IPhoto Deleted 1600 Photos

I wanted to post a cautionary tale regarding iPhoto's self repair function:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2638
I ran this on an iPhoto '09 library yesterday and during the process, 1600 photo's were deleted. The mac was then taken to the genius bar for assistance and it was found that they had been moved to trash within iPhoto.
I'm having difficult following the logic with this. Why would anyone want to automatically delete 1600 pictures, without warning? Am I missing something? Forgive my sense of humour failure. Has anyone else had something similar happen?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Your photos are not gone, iPhoto has lost the links to them due to a damaged library database file as Terence has already pointed out. If you don't have a backup you can try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options. NOTE: since you've already tried this option you can go on to #2.
    Fix #2
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
    Fix #3
Start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
    1. Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.

  • ICloud Photo Drive Deleting My Photos and Videos

OK, so I bought the 200GB iCloud storage plan for one reason and that was so I could store all my photos without taking up a huge amount of space on any of my devices. On my iPhone and iPad I can turn on iCloud Photo Drive and everything works like it should. They upload the photos and then since I have optimize on they only keep the thumbnail of the picture and video. Here is where the problem starts, so I go to my Macbook Pro with all the latest updates installed and I turn on iCloud Photo Drive in the new Photos Application. It then proceeds to upload all my photos and when it finishes it starts deleting all my photos off my Macbook Pro. I have done this 4 times already and Im lucky that I had my photo library backed up. It deletes all of them and leaves no thumbnails. So I think well maybe they are just stored in iCloud, well I couldn't be more wrong the only photos stored in iCloud are the ones from my iPhone and iPad. Please help this is really frustrating and extremely annoying having to keep restoring my Photos Library.

The only photos backed up would be in your iOS backup file which is only the photos that were stored in the
Camera Roll. There may be some third party apps that can access the photos in the backup file if it is on your computer. A back up file on iCloud can only be accessed by Restoring a new iOS device using this backup.
Photo Stream can be accessed on PCs using the iCloud control panel. Photo Stream will only keep up to 1000 photos for a 30 day limit.
Other than iCloud having the ability to hold your iOS backup file it is intended more for synicng multiple devices rather than a back up service. Photos should always be copied to a computer and it's backup then they can be synced back over to the device through iTunes.

  • How to delete someone else's iCloud account on your iPhone without password?

I purchased my old iPhone 4 off a friend when I lost my phone at the time. All of my music and photos on that phone were under her iCloud account.
Now that I have just got a new iPhone 6, when I backed up all of my photos, music etc. onto iTunes and synced up my new phone, it transferred her iCloud account to my new phone. She does not remember her password, and it will not let me delete this account without the password. I have spent hours searching the internet for a solution but have had no luck. Surely someone else has had this happen to them in the past.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Hello megneth,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
In order to get an iCloud account signed out of your iPhone, you will need to have the previous owner sign out with their Apple ID login information.  If they do not remember their Apple ID password, then they can reset it by following the directions in the article below.

  • How can I delete an iCloud account on my iPhone without the password?

How can I delete an iCloud account on my phone without being able to enter the password?
The account on my phone is linked to an old email adress that no longer exists and won't accept any of my passwords (although, this account did accept a pasword several days ago to restore my old phone to it's original settings but it won't accept that password anymore...)
I can't change the password because the first security questions asks for my birthday which it won't accept.
    HELP!

If your device is signed into your old iCloud ID and you are trying to change it to your current ID, and if the old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go tohttps://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.
