ICloud Photo Library beta in iOS 8.0.2 - 1134 missing photos?

HI, I foolishly decided to try iCloud Photo Library beta which I activated (after several tries) on my iPad. I chose the "Optimise iPad Storage" option. I had 1189 photos on my iPad, but only 55 are now visible. I checked to see how many were in the iCloud (to do this, on any of my devices I can go to Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage>iCloud Photo Library> ...it confirms that there are 55 photos in the iCloud. So where are the other 1134?? If I go back to the Photos app and go to Collections, at the bottom it tells me how many photos I have in total - it correctly says 1189, even though only 55 show up. Help please!!

seriously, I don't think there's any bug. I suspect that Apple is aware of everything; I guess they're just testing different configurations on their servers, checking the load etc... another example is that obviously keeping optimized versions of images locally doesn't work for everyone. In my case and in the case of many others who posted here, full res images remain stored locally hours after iCloud has been fully synced, even when the "keep optimized" setting is checked.
Another thing, minor annoyance, updating manually (by clicking on the button at the bottom) doesn't work here; the page must reloaded. Well yes, it all works like a very early beta; shouldn't have been announced and released yet imo.

  • Icloud iphoto library beta vs icloud backup

I don't understand these two services, what's the difference?
When I lost my iPhone back in 2012, I simply bough another iPhone, typed in my e-mail and everything from my lost phone was there after downloading, all my photo's, everything.  I could also download iCloud for PC and all my photo's would sync to my computer. When I plug my iPhone in and it's connected to wi-fi, it uploads all my data, including photos, to icloud.
So what's different about icloud iphoto library beta?

  • ICloud Photo Library (beta) on iOS 8.0.2

    Hi all,
i have just installed iOS 8.0.2 and finally i have iCloud Photo Library on the "Photo" section under settings that can be enabled. I use to have more than 1.176 pictures on my phone and after enabling it and performing a backup (so everything is safe lol) obviously the feature deleted all my pictures on the phone after warning me, that is fine.
Now, i wonder "how" i can sync all my iPhoto library which is safe on my mac to all my device.... i am running Maverick on my mac so i guess the reason why i cannot use this feature yet is cause it is not supported on Maverick.
So, is this right? anybody is able to use it with Maverick? do you have same issue?
    thanks guys

What troubleshooting have you tried? Try doing a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. See if that fixes your issue. The function is still there, and the arrow appears in the lower right.

  • HT204264 iCloud library beta on iOS  and iPhoto on Mac Book Pro

I turned on iCloud library beta on my new Ipad Air 2 and my iPhone 5. Photo stream disappears as well as camera roll. All photos in the cloud are now in ALL PHOTOS on the Album page of the the iOS devices. I chose to keep the originals on my devices rather then optimizing space. I am not that trusting especially in beta form.
When photo stream was enabled, all new photos would be pushed to a monthly photo stream album in iPhoto on my mac book pro. Now what happens? How do  the new photos taken get to iPhoto on my mac book pro?

    Restart the Mac again.
    Next time:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
    Regards
    TD

  • ICloud phot library beta - lots of duplicates

i ran iCloud photo library beta on iPad mini and iPhone 6, both running ios 8.2, and photos app on MacBook pro and Mac mini. I ended up with my 130gb library doubling in size to 260gb and loads of duplicates.
SO I exported the whole photo library to a drive on the Mac mini, using the export original files setting in Photos app, then switched off iCloud photo beta on my ipad iPhone and MacBook. I deleted the duplicates on the folder containing all my photos using a free app from Mac app store.
i have deleted the photo library on the Mac mini and reimported all the pictures so I now have iCloud photo library working correctly on the Mac Mini.
I now want to get it working on my other devices, but am worried that if I switch on iCloud photo library on the iPad or iPhone i will get duplicates again. Both the iPad and iPhone were supposed to delete the iCloud photo library pictures when I switched off the service, but neither has - they both still show the entire library as present, even after switching the service off. The iPhone shows thousands of the photos as just Gray or black frames.
How do I clear photo app on the device to start fresh?

  • I have the iCloud Photo Library (Beta) turned on. The photos from my iPhone do get uploaded to the iCloud. The photos are then downloaded to my wife's iPhone (we share the iCloud account). How do I keep the photos from downloading to my wife's iPhone

I do not want all the photos from my iPhone downloading to my wife's iPhone from iCloud? We share an iCloud account. How can I prevent the download to my wife's iPhone from iCloud. .The "Upload to My Photo Stream" is turned off on my iPhone. . I am running 8.1.3.
I have a related question. In order to same space on my iPhone is there a way to upload the photos to the iCloud and then delete them from my iPhone.

The way to keep the photos from downloading to your wife's phone would be for her to go to Settings > iCloud > Photos > and turn off iCloud Photo Library. If that isn't an option, the other option would be for her to have her own Apple ID ( and possibly explore the new family sharing options https://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/ )
Regarding the "related question" see the quotes below from iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support
Deleting a photo or video from your Photos app will also remove the item from iCloud Photo Library and from your iCloud storage allocation. Photos and videos you remove can be recovered from the Recently Deleted album for 30 days. After 30 days, your content will be removed from the Recently Deleted album.
If you want to reduce the space used by photos on your phone, rather than deleting them see the following:
How does iCloud Photo Library save space on my device?
If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your iOS device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. iCloud Photo Library stores the original, high-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and can keep lightweight, device-optimized versions on each of your devices. As long as you have enough storage, recent photos and videos that you access the most will stay on your device at full resolution.
You can turn on Optimize [device] Storage from Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera > iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You need an Internet connection to access an original photo or video that’s stored only in iCloud.

  • ICloud Photo Library (beta) - how does it work?

8.0.2 has an option to enable iCloud Photo Library (beta), I am trying to understand how it works before I turn it on...
The description says it will auto-upload the entire iPhoto Library to iCloud so other devices that can access these photos by using the same Apple ID. It also has sub-option to keep original photo or keep optimized photo on the device. So questions:
    1. This feature seems to do what Photo Stream does, will new taken photos be auto-sent to iCloud and Photo Stream?
    2. Does iCloud Photo Library count iCloud storage?
    3. Those albums synced with iTunes, will they be uploaded to iCloud Photo Library, and no longer sync with iTunes? Will they be deleted from devices? Will the iTunes Photo Sync selections be disabled?
    4. Here "iPhoto Library" refers to the photo library on devices only, or it includes the Photo Library on computer? My Mac iPhoto/Aperture also signs in the same Apple ID, will those photos on my Mac be auto-uploaded to iCloud?
    5. Presently I sync selected photos to devices via iTunes, if iTunes Sync is disabled after enabled iCloud Photo Library, how can I send selected photos to devices?
    Thanks

Using iPad Mini / iPhone 4S
I have just recently enabled the iCloud Photo Library (Beta). I also use MS Onedrive and i have it setup to automatically backup all my photos and      videos from both my iOS devices.
Today i opened Onedrive for no particular reason and clicked on the Photos tab, this shows the progress of photos being backed up, only this time i      scrolled down to find that there was hundreds of photos from different families mixed in with mine dating back to 2002! Naturally the first thing i am      thinking is who is looking at my photos/files. What is going on!!!!
Let me just assure anyone reading this, that the owner of these photographs would not appreciate anyone else having them, these are Kindergarten,      public school and family photos of complete strangers. and all my photos are mixed in between them.
Is anyone else having this issue

  • ICloud Photo Library questions... how beta-ish?

1 so much for High Res ... however, every time I attempt to download a photo from the new Photos app on iCloud.com to my PC, it's downloaded in low resolution. Like a 3264x2448 (original size when uploaded from iOS) becomes a 2048x1536 when downloaded to the PC.
2 how come that iCloud Photo library isn't available in iCloud Photos (Windows app)?
3 why is Photostream still available ?!? ... the funniest being that activating iCloud Photo Library on iOS activates photostream at the same time ... In that case, the Photo Stream album remains hidden, but probably still activated and eating up space. That's ridiculous. I know, just turn it off.
4 how optimized is "optimized" ... on my iPhone, when I choose to store optimized local versions of photos and videos with iCloud Photo Library activated, there's absolutely no change: all photos, even after hours, remain locally stored in full res and uncompressed.

just to correct something wrong that I said: if iCloud Photo Library and PhotoStream are activated, PhotoStream won't actually eat any space and it will behave like it did in iOS 8.0 - 8.0.2, seamlessly integrated in Photos. Now if iCloud Photo Library is off and PhotoStream is still on, a new album will be created, containing low res versions of both uploaded and downloaded files (like in iOS 7), using local storage again.
Anyway ... expecting iCloud Photo Library to get out of beta ASAP and PhotoStream to go ... for good.

  • IPhone photos app crashing consistently with large iCloud photo library beta - how can I completely remove?

Hi - I turned on the iCloud photo library beta on my phone weeks ago.  Worked fine with no issues.  Then the Yosemite OS X beta 10.10.3 was released with the new Photos app.  Once i loaded that new app, it converted my Aperture library and began to upload around 75,000 photos.
My iPhone almost immediately became sluggish (I assumed because it was downloading the pictures) and then eventually started crashing every time I go into the app (after a few seconds).  I assumed it was because it showed 75,000 images in my Cameral Roll/Moments so I turned of the iCloud photo library beta.  It prompted to be certain I was ok with deleting the images, which I said OK to.  But it still shows 75,000 images in the camera roll and anything I tried to do with any photo has become completely unusable (generally just crashing each time).
Did I miss a step in the process?
    Is this just me?
I'm trying to backup my iPhone but it keeps erroring out with the message "iTunes could not back up the iPhone "name" because the iPhone disconnected".  Otherwise I would just recreate .  Please help

It can free up some storage but it doesn't work like Dropbox. See the following quotes from iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support
I personally don't use iCloud Photo Library as it is still beta. Additionally, I have a Mac computer and there is not yet a Mac Photos app that is compatible.

To turn on Optimize [device] Storage on your device, tap Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera, then select Optimize [device] Storage. You need an Internet connection to access an original photo or video that’s stored only in iCloud.
How does iCloud delete photos and videos from iCloud Photo Library?
Deleting a photo or video from your Photos app will also remove the item from iCloud Photo Library and from your iCloud storage allocation. Photos and videos you remove can be recovered from the Recently Deleted album for 30 days. After 30 days, your content will be removed from the Recently Deleted album. Photos are backed up on our servers for up to 30 days after they're deleted from the Photos app. If you need to recover these photos during that time, contact Apple Support.

  • The video library is empty in iMovie on iOS after update to iCloud photo library

I updated to iCloud photo library and all of my photos and videos are now in the cloud instead of my iDevice. When I open iMovie in iDevice, the photo/video library is empty. How can I use my videos in projects?

iCloud photo library will be introduced as beta in an iOS 8 update scheduled for October.  Read under "Pricing & Availability" here: http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2014/09/09Apple-Announces-iOS-8-Available-Septem ber-17.html.

  • HT6378 I "upgraded" to iCloud Photo Library (Beta), my 2000+ pictures between my iphone/ipad has now become 85 photos.  Where are the other 1900 pictures--not in the deleted folder?

I upgraded to iCloud Photo LIbrary (Beta) today but my 2000+ pictures have now become 85 pictures on the iCloud/iPhone & iPad.  The pictures are not in the deleted folder.  These "pictures" were NOT normal with prior IOS upgrades.  I could not delete them.  Where have all of these pictures gone?

Ok, so here's a solution to this issue:
Backed up my iPhone on iTunes
Did a factory reset on iPhone
Restored the thing from previous backup
Re-entered all my passwords and such
    Now it's syncing again.
The whole procedure took me about two hours.
No idea why this happened. Beta, I guess.

  • ICloud photo library (beta) problem

Hello, I updated my iphone 6 to iOS 8.1 and was trying to activate the iCloud photo library (beta) but I have a problem.
When I turn on the option a popup says that the sync will start when the device restore from iCloud will be finished.
Obviously I'm not doing any restore from iCloud at this time. I restored from an iCloud backup a month ago when I purchased the new phone and everything seems to be perfectly fine: I have all my apps, photos, contacts, etc.
One thing I noticed is in my photos app there's a spinning wheel saying the photos are syncing (see screenshot) but that's not true: all the photos are there and there're no unfinished downloads.
I also tried to erase the phone and restore a backup from itunes but it didn't solve the problem.
Does anyone have the same problem? Is there a solution?

I'm running 10.10.1. I'll try updating that in addition to the phone OS.
Don't forget to make a full backup of your Mac, before you upgrade, better safe than sorry.
With iCloud Photo Library Beta enabled, you could download your photos directly from iCloud, while your Photo Stream will not work:
If you enable iCloud Photo Library (Beta) on your iPhone, the iCloud webpage will change for you:
This page https://www.icloud.com will show an additional app:
And if you click the Photos.app on that page, it will take you to a page showing your photos, https://www.icloud.com/#photos
That link is dead for you, as long as you are not using iCloud Photo Library.  It will show you the Moments and Albums, just like the Photos.app on the iPad or iPhone.

  • HT204264 Do my photos still backup in my iCloud if I don't have my iCloud library beta on?

Do my photos still backup in my iCloud if I don't have my iCloud library beta on?

They are included in an iCloud backup if you don't have iCloud Photo Library turned on. See the following quote from the section of what is included in an iCloud backup from iCloud: iCloud storage and backup overview
Photos and videos on your iOS devices, unless you turn on iCloud Photo Library beta on your iOS 8.1 device. If you turn on iCloud Photo Library beta, your photos and videos are already stored in iCloud, so they aren’t included in your iCloud Backup.
Be aware that the contents of an iCloud backup are not viewable at iCloud.com and are only usable when doing a full restore to an iOS device or when transferring to a new iOS device. Because of that I also import my photos to a computer for safekeeping. Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support

  • Photo library beta - syncing images to icloud takes forever

I started using the icloud photo library (beta) yesterday and my phone is still uploading photos. My phone has been on a wifi network for the better part of the last 24 hours and still it's only managed to upload about 230 of 800 images/videos. It seems that most of the images uploaded during the night, but the last 12 hours it has been stuck at "uploading 560 images". Anyone know what the problem might be? Or if there even is a probIem? Might it just be that this service is extremely slow? I have an iphone 5 with ios 8.1.2.

Ok, so here's a solution to this issue:
Backed up my iPhone on iTunes
Did a factory reset on iPhone
Restored the thing from previous backup
Re-entered all my passwords and such
    Now it's syncing again.
The whole procedure took me about two hours.
