ICloud restoring outdated apps

I have a bit of a problem here. I have a few apps that won't install from the app store with an iCloud restore because they are no longer in the app store. I didn't know iCloud restored apps fresh from online. So.. I synced the apps from iTunes after I got the error that iCloud restore wasn't complete because of this and now I guess iCloud won't restore the app data I uploaded for those apps. Is there anyway to get that data back?

Ok... I've had iOS 5 since release and everything was fine. Some reason I got the boot screen and wouldn't go away so I had to restore. I did a complete fresh restore in DFU mode to get a clean install. Every app I had on my phone last night was synced to iCloud before this happened. Now... when I restored in iTunes I used the welcome app ON the phone and restored from iCloud backup. Because the REMOVED apps were not in the app store anymore it would not load that app data and it won't let you sync your phone on iTunes via the computer because that is how iCloud works. So after the incomplete iCloud restore finished. I synced my apps and music with iTunes and now I have ALL my apps back on my phone. But since you have to restore from iCloud backup right when the phone is restored then I am not able to sync the apps before I restore from backup.
Because of all this I can't get my app data which is important for those REMOVED apps. This is a issue with iCloud with what I'm seeing. Apple needs to make a check box or something to not download your apps from the app store.
Not sure if I can be anymore clearer than this. Hopefully this helps.

  • Icloud restore. Apps downloaded but disappear immediately

I changed region of the same account once, then I used icloud restore my ipad. Many apps were downloaded but disappeared immediately. How to solve it?

    OK...
Here's what I did to get around this problem, a slight modification of a fix for another issue...
All you need to do is Settings->General->International->Languages–>Change to British English
This will cause the Springboard to soft reset and the stuck apps will automatically resume and download themselves! Or not, in which case you can follow the steps below.
Now (very important) after perfomimng step one again, quickly go to the app that you are stuck on, move it out of its folder if necessary, to get at it more easily. Press and hold to bring up the 'x' then tap to delete. Note: You will only have few seconds, maybe 2 or 3 before the springboard finishes its refresh and the resume download kicks back in on the stuck app. Once it gets to resume restore mode, you will be unable to delete the stuck app. The rest of your apps should continue to download normally now, once the offending app is deleted. You can easily re-download that app later, once the others have finished restoring.
You can now change the language back to US English or whatever (I'm going to leave mine in the Queens English)
    Cheers! Hope this helps someone.

  • How do I pause an iCloud restore for app with large amounts of data?

I am using an iPhone app which is holding 10 Gb of data (media files) .
Unfortunately, although all data was backed up, my iPhone 4 was faulty and needed to be replaced with a new handset. On restore, the 10Gb of data takes a very long time to restore over wi-fi. If interrupted (I reached the halfway point during the night) to go to work or take the dog for a walk, I end up of course on 3G for a short period of time.
Next time I am in a wi-fi zone the app is restoring again right from the beginning
How does anyone restore an app with large amounts of data or pause a restore?

You can use classifications but there is no auto feature to archive like that on web apps.

  • Icloud restoring - is app content transferred in it's entirety?

Sooo..if and when I buy a new iphone I want one specific app to have all the data restored as is - my diary.  It has 2 years worth of entries in it and I would like them to all transfer to my new device and I continue writing in it. I'm not sure the "content" of my app will be restored in it's entirety?  Can anyone tell me if that is the case?
    Thanks

Yes, it should be restored as is if it is app data.

Yes - I connected my phone to my computer / Itunes and went into the apps section, but from there I have no idea how to manage the push notifications.  I even tryied going into itunes that is installed on my phone.  I still cannot find anyplace to manage these popups.  I have also gone into settings - notifiations - and tried turning all notifications for these apps all off but that didnt work either.  Any guidance is MUCH appreciated - Im not sure where to go from here.

Icloud or itunes backup, only backs up app data, not the app itself.
so if you restore as new, then there is no app data on your phone, you start out new...

  • Syncing with iTunes after iCloud Restore Syncs Unwanted Apps

After I had restored my iPhones using a recent iCloud backup, some of my content such as certain videos and music needed to be installed through syncing with iTunes. All of my apps were arranged and installed as they were before the resoration. I had iTunes set to not automatically begin to sync when I plug in any of my iOS devices, so I can review the device first and then begin the sync. Upon plugging in my iPhone, I checked the applications tab, and all of the apps were arranged the way they were when I would unlock my iPhone; everything seemed normal. It would appear that the content that had not been restored through the iCloud restore would simply be installed though syncing with iTunes. The second I hit sync, iTunes began to restore my iPhone with a very early sync, as many of the apps I had deleted some time ago were being installed onto my phone, and my of the applications added since that specific sync were removed. What can I do to just have iTunes act as it should when finishing the restoration on my phone and not default to a stubborn sync? I'm currently restoring my phone from another recent iCloud backup to have all of my apps and their settings restored to how they were less than 12 hours ago.

First make sure you have the most recent version of iTunes. Use the itunes menu to check for updates and install the latest version if needed.
Reboot your computer and rest your iphone. Press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the buttons and let the device restart. No data will be lost doing this. It's like rebooting a computer.

To restore from an iCloud backup you have to erase the phone and start over.  To do this, go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, then go through the setup assistant again and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup.  There is no other way to do this.
Be sure you phone is connected to wifi and your charger as this is likely to take some time to finish.

  • After syncing my ipod touch with a new computer, will an icloud backup restore my app data including game progress?

I have an ipod touch which I have USB synced in the past on my Windows Vista laptop.
Now I want to stop USB Syncing with the laptop and USB start syncing instead with my Windows 7 Desktop machine instead.
Both PCs have the latest version of itunes running and I have transferred all purchases from the ipod to the Windows 7 desktop machine.
Home sharing is turned on on both PCs, so now their libraries appear identical.
The ipod has the latest IOS installed, and I have set up automatic icloud back ups for the ipod.
If i USB sync the ipod with the windows 7 desktop PC it warns me that all data will be erased, and replaced with data from that computer. I know that this will mean that all game progress is lost since it is not included in a USB sync backup and virgin copies of all the apps will be loaded onto the ipod.
    My Question is this;
What is the best way to keep the app data intact on the ipod?
Do I simply carry out a USB sync with the Windows 7 desktop PC, let it wipe all the game save info away, and then resore an icloud backup onto the ipod?
Will this result in me being able to sync with the Windows 7 desktop PC and keep my game save data intact?
    Thanks

    Two ways.
    - You can sync with the new computer by following these instructions
Sync Your iOS Device with a New Computer Without Losing Data - How-To Geek
All the apps have to be in the iTunes library so the app data will have a place to go.
    - Or just restore from iCloud backup. That will also pull down the apps from iCloud. Your apps data will also be restored.

  • Can iCloud restore a purchased app if it's no longer in the store? (Which makes it pretty unreliable / useless as a true backup)

The info I've found on iCloud backup of apps, says only the "purchase history" is backed up (not purchased apps themselves).
Previously purchased apps aren't available for restore if the store no longer lists the app.   This makes iCloud pretty useless (IMHO)
as a "backup", since at any time you can lose your "backup", and become totally vulnerable to loss, if the app is discontinued in the store
(no longer available).   This means that (in order to have a reliable backup) I must BACKUP BY HAND EVERY SINGLE APP (TO ITUNES)!
This makes iCloud "backup" pretty meaningless (except maybe as a slight convenience for apps that are still available - admittedly most,
but your favorite app may "disappear from the store" at any time).
Am I correct in my understanding?  Is backing up to my iTunes app library the only reliable alternative?
NOTE TO APPLE:  why can't you archive apps that have EVER been listed on the store, so app purchases can
be restored easily, even when the store no longer carries them?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the clarification.  I sort of understood how to do that.  My complaint is that HAVING to do that makes iCloud pretty meaningless.  Even worse is the possibility that users will RELY ON ICLOUD, and perhaps find someday that they can't get an app restored from iCloud because it's no longer in the store.
If you work for Apple, could you please pass along my suggestion to enable iCloud to restore previous purchases even when they are no longer available on the store -- this doesn't seem that difficult, and it would make the iCloud app backup a lot more meaningful (IMHO).  Thanks!

    Hello there, Tamghosh.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some good steps to use for troubleshooting the issue you're describing:
    iCloud: Photo Stream troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3989
    Particularly:
I don't see photos in Photo Stream on my iOS device.
    Check the following:
From your Home screen, tap Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream, and make sure the slider is set to the ON position.
From the Home screen, tap Settings > Wi-Fi, make sure the slider is set to ON, and that your device is connected to a wireless network.
Ensure that Camera app is closed on the device where you took the photo. Photo Stream will not upload photos from an iOS device until the Camera app is closed.
Ensure your iOS device has not fallen below 20% battery power. To preserve battery life, Photo Stream downloading and uploading are disabled when the battery reaches this threshold. Downloading and uploading will resume once you charge your device, and the battery charge is greater than 20%.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro D.

  • ICloud restore Apps download while in waiting mode then disappear after

    Hi All,
When I restore my iPhone 4 from the iCloud backup, I get prompted to key in a new passcode for the phone, Facetime password, iMessage password, and my email passwords but I do not get prompted for my AppStore password.
My apps stay in "Waiting..." mode and they start downloading at that state. The moment the download completes, all the waiting apps turn white and flash (disappear and appear) and the downloaded app disappears forever (icons have shifted as if they app was deleted).
I have tried this about 7 times already and at every single attempt, I was not prompted for my AppStore password (I'm guessing the restored apps do not get authenticated/verified so they just get dumped after download).
I then tried a few more restores and thought of ways that would "interrupt" this instant download of apps (in Waiting... state). I tried shutting the phone off after I keyed in all my passwords (I have about 5 email accounts). Upon starting back up the phone, it will go on with the automatic download without asking me for my AppStore password.
I decided to try to interrupt the sequence further (in another restore attempt) but continously tapping on an application in the Waiting... state (similar to how you would pause/unpause a new app download/update). This eventually caused the AppStore login prompt. After which, one of the apps now hit Loading... state and downloading it completely will install it. All the relevant data is restored.
Now the issue is that despite being able to do this, I still lose 1 or 2 apps (one before I shutdown and before I can hammer an app enough to make it pop up the AppStore login screen). Is there some sort of delay issue with regards to the iCloud restore process? Is it possible to get the phone to prompt me for my AppStore password immediately after a restore?
I'm not sure if this is due to my iCloud backup being corrupted (upon initial restore the phone reboots and does the loading graphics and then to the apple then get stuck in the spinning icon for a while). I dont know how much more I can describe what I'm experiencing but I will gladly provide more information.

  • How do I restore an app that is no longer available in the app store

I did a couple of really stupid things like trying to install ios8 without doing a complete backup anywhere (really stupid I know)  and relying on one program to keep my passwords in without backing it up somewhere. The whole upgrade to ios8 through iTunes went badly and I had to do a restore. I was able to retrieve pics and such from my pc but that's it. I've gone to the App Store and downloaded some of the apps I'd purchased over the years, but the password program I used wasn't there. The other apps I downloaded restored things like webpages I had been looking at before the restore as well as progress in games, so it must be able to retrieve some info from the iPads memory.  It's the loss of that password program that's really driving me nuts as I didn't have the info elsewhere. I bought it a few years back but it's not in the App Store anymore. It was called Safe, the icon was gray with a dial like the front of a safe. I'm hoping that there is some way of restoring this app and, like the other apps I've downloaded again, the information will still be there.
has anyone had any experience with this or that could point me in the right direction? It really isn't backed up elsewhere on my pic or the iCloud.

If the app is no longer in the store then you won't be able to redownload it, and if you haven't got a copy of it anywhere (you don't have another iOS device which has it on ?), and if you haven't got a backup of the iPad on your computer's iTunes (if you haven't got a backup then you won't have the app's content), then you won't be able to get it and your passwords back.
