Icon thumb nails

Can someone explain why sometimes the icon thumbnail picture shows up on some icons and not others. When I move pictures from one folder to another or when I drag a photo from the iphoto window to the desktop, some icons show the thumbnail of the picture and others don't. Why is that.

It's because the preview option is not the default mode for the every folder. Try opening the Macintosh HD, and then Menu Bar>View>Show View Option... then it should set the preview as default for all folders.

Hi I have been having a problem with Bridge in CS4 recently. So uninstalled CS4 and Lightroom 4.4 and reinstalled them on my Desktop PC. When I turned on Bridge through CS4, My thumb nail images disappeared and a thumb nail icon with CR2 appeared. Now some of my images have disappeared from Light room 4.4, but I can find them in CS4 and Bridge now shows some thumb nails as images and some as an icon with CR2. I have spent two weeks going through preferences etc. to find how to resolve my problem. Please can you Help? Meany thanks in advance

I don't use LR and rarely use the bridge so I can not answers about thumbnails in them, However thumbnails in windows file explorer and windows dialog for CS2 files will only show if you have installed codec into windows that will produce them. Windows does not do CR2 thumbnails on its own. I use FastPictureViewer Codec package for RAW File and PSD files thunbmail support.

Sending email with attachments as Thumb Nails Instead of Image

Is it possible to change the attachment from actual image to a thumb nail attachment in Mail? For example, when attaching a PDF for an outbound email the PDF shows in the body of the message instead of just an icon that can be opened.

Based on this excerpt from Mail's help file, I believe it is not possible to change that appearance you're asking about.
View, save, and delete attachments
You can specify a default location for saving all attachments, or you can specify a location for each attachment.
HideView attachments
Some attachments, such as images or PDFs, are displayed in the message content. To view other types of attachments you can:
Click Details in the message header area, and then click Quick Look. To view attachments in full screen mode, hold down the Option key when you click Quick Look.
Choose File > Quick Look Attachments.
When viewing attachments, use the controls to move to the next or previous attachment, display the attachments as thumbnails, or view them in Preview. If you’re in full screen mode, pictures automatically play as a slideshow.
When you open an attachment in a message, Mail temporarily saves the attachment in the Mail Downloads folder, located in the Library folder of your home folder.

I just down loaded IM 11 not working frozen on thumb nails

After a year of trouble with 09 in my thread ref to 09 keeps searching for movie data I was told down load IM 11 fixes this. Well after 4 hours waiting , it down loaded 12 am . to day I opened up I movie , and its frozen . one pop up saying searching for movie data . i clicked stop Then nothing as the drop down box creating thumb nails . time remaining ( Nothing _ blank and I cannot get anything to work !
This has gone to far now . HELP PLEASE IM LOSING TIME AND MONEY ! Soon I will lose my life here and have to return if I cannot make things happen.

Ok I managed to fix what ever it was. Best thing to do if its the same problem, As soon as you see a pop up asking for video file , then if you wait and it then asks to search. Type in the top the number of the file ( the number only. ) I found that there are two files present.1 a raw R2 file with the same number and a Quick time icon that right click to get info , you may find is a thumb nail. Open all videos search for these files . In the file click to arrange by kind. so you can delete them all in one go.
That should fix it. I found that some thing to do with left movie thumbnails and perhaps conflicted files of the same number.

In IPhoto I changed movie dates after thumb nails were created in IMovie but the new dates are not showing up in IMovie. Is there someway to refresh the IPhoto event in IMovie?

Background: I'm transferring file folders from a Visa laptop via an external hard drive to my IMac. In the folders are photos and videos from different cameras. SO I first tried to import to IMovie but it would not recognize any of the files. So then I imported into IPhoto and both photos and videos were imported and I created events for each folder. When I first opened IMovie I had to wait for it to create "thumb nails". Then I could view the events in IMovie BUT the video clips are not together because they have vastly different dates and are mixed with videos from other events. I looked at the dates and said I can fix that in IPhoto which i did but those new dates are not showing up in IMovie. I think I need to somehow refresh the event data that Imovie is using but have not found how to do that in either IPhoto or IMovie.
I'm doing this on three events with about 100 photos and videos. But I have many 1000s more to do so need to know how to either fix this or delete these events, reimport, change the dates, then open again in IMovie. I'm sure that would work but I can't understand why changing the dates in IPhoto is not being reflected in IMovie.
Appreciate any tips or pointers.
OBTW this is my first question as a first time Apple owner.

Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

Mini Bridge thumb nail size error

I keep the scroll bar on the bottom of the mini bridge all the way to the left. This should show the smallest thunbnails. However when I first start the mini bridge the thumb nail size is medium sized. If I move the scroll bar toward the center, the thumbs get smaller (instead of the expected larger) until the scroll bar reachs the center. Then they start getting larger as expected. It seems the the mini briger starts with the thumbs as mediun by default no matter where the scroll bar is at. As you move the scroll bar to the right, the thumbs get smaller until they reach the size they should be at as indicted by the position of the scroll bar. Then the scroll bar operates normal. If I leave it all the way to the left and restart the computer the error is back.

In Bridge CS5 thumb nails showing milky sheen and loss of clarity

When I open up Photoshop CS4 or CS5 and go to bridge , my thumb nails have changed in appearance, they now show a milky sheen and loss of clarity.This has happened mainly with files I have worked with and they are mostly tiff images, the psd images seem less affected.
There are two folders, one I call pending which Contains images I am working on, and the other is the one that is ready for printing pictures.

Update your video card drivers. If this does not clear up problem try the option "use software rendering" in the advanced preferences.

I cannot thumb nail pics on my Lightroom. I have the most recent update and it was working well. I also cannot save my pictures and update the catalogue. I can donwload the picture (the whole thing0 but I cannot see which one I've downloaded. I have o

I cannot get the thumbnails for my catalogue. I have tried downloading the Lightroom program again and it tried to fix it but could not. I have gone to the page to check off thumb nail and that hasn't made any difference. I have the most recent update of lightroom. I can download the picture but I do not know which picture it is. This is frustrating as we are on vacation and i casnnot work on my pictures.

There are two different things here, an OS update and a software update.
Mac OS X 10.5 is the version of OS while the .8 at the end is the software update (release patches)
The most current software update for Mac OS X 10.5 is 10.5.8
No more software updates available. You would need to upgrade the OS, which would be to Mac OS X 10.6
Your new iPhone 5 would require iTunes 10.6 which is only available for OS X version 10.6.8 or later.
Your would therefore need to upgrade your Macbook to this version of OS.
It maybe brought on DVD via Apple directly (Contact Apple ) or using any good online vendor like Amazon.

HELP & THANKS! Why does Hour Glass appear where all Thumb Nail Photos should be in Organizer PSE 9?

All of a sudden all new items imported into Adobe Photoshop elements 9 Organizer have an hour glass that is not moving instead of a thumbnail photograph. Update thumbnail does not seem to work. My operating system is Windows Vista. The photos are Jpeg and are on my hard drive. Some of these photos worked before with a thumb nail photo but do not now. Thanks for any help! Anxiously waiting for an answer.

Every time (ALMOST) I open a comment tag 'pop-up,' the Thumb-Nail section opens, very annoying. Have tried everything I can think of. Any ideas? No other problems elsewhere, either in Adobe or Word or my entire computer for that matter. Very strange glitch. Ran several deep virus checks - nothing. Booted and re-booted. Entered different ways into Adobe, no help. Thought about my keyboard (wireless of course) might be doing it, but in other web-sites and in WORD - no problems.
I use WINDOWS 8.1. Also doubled checked my up-date status. Is there a chance that this is a continuing problem that is still being encountered from the last major Adobe up-date? Use Adobe for years with never a problem until the latest up-date. Parting thought, maybe just my batteries in my keyboard are getting low, or a really low threshold virus of some sort, no idea. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

of the thumb nails I would like the image in the main placement to
change to the relevant larger image and then change again when I
click on another thumbnail. I seem to be having trouble with this.
(Drreamweaver CS3) Any help would be greatly apprciated. I am sure
it is simple as it was in Golive.

Opens only as a thumb-nail; cannot get it in a window(I have Windows 7)

I have Firefox 4.0.1 No trouble with it. Suddenly I cannot get it up from the thumb nail above the task bar. I tried reinstalling it over the original reinstalation but no change. I am now having to struggle with Outlook!

I now have Firefox 9but the same fault. It opens only as a thumbnail.

I took a video of my sons football game, I have about 22 minutes of video imported and created a large abount of thumb nails. Would like to select all and move to project library and upload to gallery for the coaches to view. I can only load one thubm nail at a time. Is there a quicker way

Unfortunately, nobody has found a way to select multiple files at this point. However, depending on your workflow, there may be some shortcuts. Try the following:
1) Reduce "Events" timeline so that each clip is represented by a single thumbnail.
2) Turn on the "Add Clip" editing button. (Advanced preference must be ticked for this option.)
3) Option-click each "Events" thumbnail in the order you want them automatically added to your "Project" Window.
Goes as fast as you can point to a thumbnail and Option-click the mouse.

Since March 2012 my iphoto 11 trash folder says that I have 13,346 photos in the iphoto trash, but there are no thumb nail copies in the viewer window. I can delete additional photos but clicking on the "empty trash" button. Any solutions?

My system trash finally emptied when I discovered "trash it!" is not longer supported by the most recent osx. Then I found an updated version of Onyx that did work with that trash emptying problem.
I have a total of 5,723 photos in my library. A macdevelopers group recently started suggesting a multi library manager for iphoto to overcome some kind of library quota limitations with iphoto as opposed to "more advanced" photo handling, storing and editing programs. If I went to a mult library manager for iphoto would that cure the apparent incongruent data retrieval problem in iphoto 11 regarding 13,346 phantom photos that will not securely delete?
Are there any other possible solutions out there?

Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
