• Bookmark icon in Bookmark Bar not working

Safari will not allow me view my bookmarks using the Book icon on the Bookmarks bar. The first time I click on the icon, it opens a Tab with "Bookmarks" on the tab but it just sits there a spins forever. If I click the icon 2 more times, I can see the list of my bookmark Collections, but whenever I click on ANY of the collections, NOTHING shows up on the right side. My Bookmarks' pulldown menu works fine but I have a ton of bookmarks within Collections that I can no longer access.
I've tried resetting Safari. I've repaired my permissions using Disk Utility.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
If not, would someone please give me a link to redownload Safari 3 for Mac OS 10.4.11 as only Windows users can download a copy off of Apple's website. Apple has removed the Mac version from their website as they say Apple's Software Update should download the latest version. Software Update is telling me that all my software is updated.
Thank you.
Christi

Follow the standard procedures for Mac OS X miracles:
Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > select your start up volume > First Aid > Repair Permissions
Restart the your Mac with the Mac OS X installation CD or DVD (through holding the key C on the keyboard). There select your preferred language and then not install Mac OS X but go to the File menu and select Disk Utility. There select your normal volume > First Aid > Repair disk. Restart your Mac.
System Preferences > Users and hit the small "+" at the bottom to create a new user. Select Log out from the Apple menu and log in this new user.
If it worked in the new user, the problem is somewhere in a file in your users Library > Preferences folder.
If it did not work, check your Apple Bluetooth Software version is at 1.6 and not 1.5.

• In Firefox4, can I lose the folder icons from the Bookmarks Bar while keeping icons everywhere else (because the folder icons are superfluous and extend the horizontal list of bookmark folders beyond the width of the window)?

I've just installed Firefox4 for Mac (OS 10.6.7) and can no longer see all my bookmark folders at once across the top -- because the folder icons make the Bookmarks Bar too wide. Yet, I like the icons on the other bars, so I don't want to turn them off globally. Is there a way to just lose the folder icons -- which don't appear to serve a purpose anyway?

Small correction to original post. Machine is an iMac 2.4ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. (I was at home when I made the first post.) But the bookmarks menu behavior still exists today and FF 5 is essentially unusable.
System details next to the post are not for machine with the bug in question.
Found a copy of FF4 to use until a solution is found. Turned off automatic updates to preserve this version.

• I want to make the adress bar smaller so that my bookmark bar can show more than three icons when placed on the same row.

I want to have about five to ten bookmark icons in the same row as the search and address bar. So i use Customize... and I put the bookmark bar on the same line. I leave the "Name"-textbox in every bookmark blank so that only the icons appear.
However, only two icons appear and the rest are displayed in a drop down menu from an arrow you click.
I don't need the address bar to take 70% of the screen. I don't want the bookmark bar to use an extra row. I just want to have five to ten bookmark icons next to my address and search bar. Is this possible?

What do you mean with "Save passwords" checkbox?
Is that box provided by an extension?

• How can I take off the text on the bookmark bar and just leave the Icons of the bookmarks on the boomark bar ?

I'd like to save space for more sites on my bookmark bar so I'd like to take off the text on the bookmark bar and just leave the site Icon's...that way there will be much more space to add on more sites to my bookmark bar.

SImple open the bookmark properties and erase the name, to open the bookmark properties:
*Go to '''Bookmarks''' >> '''Show all bookmarks''' >> or press '''Ctrl+Shift+B ''' click on the bookmark to see the properties.
*Go to bookmark page click on the blue star to see the properties or Press Ctrl+D

• Option to view bookmarks bar as icons in Safari?

This question has been asked many times by the community if you ever used internet explorer you have the option to view bookmarks or favorites as icons only this keeps it neat and tidy plus it is less clunky as safari has it now and then. This needs to be fixed as it it quite annoying to put up with and here are the reaseons why it should have a setting for this for view as icons only.
1. When you click on the show all bookmarks bar bringing you to a bookmarks panel you obviously can see the icons on the bottom left of the page making it possible for the technicians to pull a couple of strings in the program when redesigning the bookmarks bar.
2. If you veiwed the bookmarks bar you can see that its clunky and unorganized and with a touch of OCD in my viens its quite annoying and just too much for me to handle I rather prefer a simple icon to serfice rather than something like this (Youtube Pandora Twitter Yahoo Facebook ....) its not the best but I enjoy using Safari so much because its fast and flexible on computer with only a few minor hiccups I refuse to unistall it and plan to use it for a while.
3. UPDATE AND FIX!!!

• Can't sync icons from Smart bookmarks bar to Smartest Bookmarks Bar.

I'm using Win 7 & FF4. I had synced all the data from my Vista computer to 7 & it worked fine before I switched to FF4. I only switched to FF4 was because it said you had to have FF4 to be able to sync. My reason for using FF is the Smart Bookmarks Bar (which I love) but it is not available on FF4 so I chose the Smartest Bookmark Bar. But after I synced- it came up with all blanks in the boxes that normally have the icons for each bookmark. If I go back to FF3.6 can I still get the Smart Bookmarks Bar & be able to sync all my data between computers? If not, is there a compatibility issue between the 2 bookmarks bars that the icons won't transfer between them? Please help me get my bookmark icons back? I'm a newbie comp. user & don't understand the jargon. Thanks so much for all your help.

Both extensions seem to use the Firefox Bookmarks Toolbar and only show the icons on that toolbar (hide the labels).

• Lost "Home" icon above Safari bookmarks bar

The "Home" icon in Safari on my wife's MiniMac (OS 10.4.5) has suddenly disappeared. The icon is a small house and is normally shown just above the Safari bookmarks bar, on the left, next to the forward and back URL buttons. Using Safari's Help page has not produced a solution.
Can anyone help me restore this feature?

Grant,
Use Safari>View>Customize Address Bar...>Drag your favorite item into the toolbar...(Home)
;~)

• Small icons alongside bookmarks or on browser bar have disappeared.

Following a recent update the small icons alongside bookmarks have disappeared or are empty boxes. This also happens with addresses on the browser bar.

Use a JFrame not a JDialog.

• After IOS 8 update, bookmark bar won't go away

After upgrading to IOS 8 on my iPad 2, in landscape mode in Safari, the bookmarks bar, now combined with links and "Reading List", won't go away. I believe it is supposed to go away when you select one of the functions, such as bookmark, so that the tab turns blue, then hit it again. It doesn't. I can turn it to portrait mode to make it go away, but I'd like to use landscape mode without losing a third of the screen to bookmarks.

Apple knows what's good for you - how dare you criticizing their benevolent parental guidance?
Jokes aside, I'm also a little bit puzzled that there's no option to choose between the "toggle on-off" setting in landscape mode and the fade out one as in portrait In Safari's settings. But there's actually some kind of workaround I'm now using most of the time in landscape mode:
When tapping the URL address bar your bookmarks will also show above the virtual keyboard as they do when Safari doesn't have any websites opened. As soon as one taps into that bookmark window to scroll or directly click a bookmark the keyboard disappears again. It may not be a perfect method, especially when bookmarks aren't organized in folders, because the top level bookmarks are displayed as rather largish icons. But those contained in a folder will actually display as a drop-down list (can be scrolled when having a large number of entries) similar to the normal bookmarks list. Once a bookmark has been clicked everything fades out and you're taken to the selected site. As my bookmarks are almost exclusively in folders such as "News", "Sports", "Tech" etc. I've come to appreciate this kind of bookmark navigation much more than through the standard bookmarks menu with its annoying behavior in landscape mode.

• How do you add a web site to a folder in the iMac Bookmarks Bar?

Safari 6.0.5 does not have a "+" left of the URL. According to the Apple Safari video, that is how you add a web site to a folder in the Bookmarks bar.

Drag the website "icon" from the URL bar into the folder in the Bookmarks Bar.
When you start draging, a green + will appear.
Best.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

*Places Maintenance: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

• I want to list the items on my bookmarks bar alphabetically, can I ?

I keep adding to my bookmark bar but would like to order them alphabetically, but no in separate folders as they are not easy to categorize. Is there a way ? many thanks for suggestions!

Hi ...
You can re arrange items in your Bookmarks Bar simply by dragging to the desired location.
You can alphabetize bookmarks in folders.
Click the Bookmarks icon top left corner of the Safari window
From the Safari menu bar click Bookmarks > Add Bookmark Folder
Drag the bookmarks you want to that folder. Now drag that folder to the Desktop. The Finder will automatically alphabetize the bookmarks. Then drag the folder back to the Safari window.

• Strange square box on right side of bookmarks bar

Dear Mozilla Support
The other day a strange long square box appeared on the right side of my bookmarks bar.
The bookmarks bar I refer to starts on the left with the words "most Visited" "Start" etc, etc, with all my bookmark links icons displayed going from left to the right... but ... strangely, one day when I started my computer a strange "long square frame" appeared to the right of my bookmarks bar ,
and then pushed all of my bookmarks over to the left (eliminating most ) and now I have just a few bookmarks on that bar with a double arrow " >> " like this . I have to click on the "double arrow" to see the remainder of my bookmarks. I do not wish to have it this way, I would like this "long square frame" removed , so I will finally have "room" for my bookmarks again. By the way, this frame is "Not clickable" nothing happens when you click it, and it is "NOT A SEARCH BOX" it is just a long square frame taking up space on my bookmarks bar. Can someone help. Thankyou in advance ! Rick

There have been reports that this is caused by the Zoom Page 9.0 extension.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
