ID CS2 Windows XP Pro - How long should adding pages take?

I am using InDesign CS2 in Windows XP Pro. I have an ID book file with 13 sections, approximately 20-25 pages in each section. There are approximately 4,000-5,000 images on the pages (total on all pages). I am using auto page numbering and am trying to add three blank pages to the beginning of the second section. It's been working for about two hours so far to make the change. Is this normal? I'm a Macintosh guy, so I'm not sure how long this process should take on a Windows machine. When I open the task manager, it says that InDesign is using 47-54% CPU (it fluctuates between 47 and 54%). I've quit all other apps (except system-related), even though they weren't using any of the processor, but it hasn't sped things up. In the menu bar at the top of the main ID window, it says "not responding," but I've seen that before and then it's started working again.
Is this normal? How long should I wait? I know adding an odd number of pages means that items on pages in the sections after the one to which I'm adding pages have to be shifted from right-hand pages to left-hand pages, but should it be taking this long?
I appreciate any input or suggestions. Thank you.
Lloyd Lathrop

Guys,
Thanks for the replies. I'm actually not sure how these files were set up (before I was here), and I haven't dug into them yet, but I'm trying to fix them (each book file is a 300-page catalog, and we have 10 catalogs...pray for me!). I thought there were 2GB of RAM, so that's one place to start. I'll try to add the pages with all the other sections closed first. I went through each section and they almost all had "sections" beginning on an internal page within the section in addition to the first page of the section. I want "automatic page numbering," so I unchecked "start section" (or whatever it says) on those internal pages.
I'll requisition more RAM and keep plugging away. Thanks for the suggestions.
Lloyd

I am having this problem.  At first with the new iPhone 5, and then with the iPad 2.  I am not sure why this is happening.
My gut feeling is this is an iO6 issue and here's why -
The problem mainly occurs with apps.  I have about 150 apps, and when I plugged in the phone, iTunes went to sync all of them.  The process would hang up after about 20 - 30 apps were loaded onto the phone. I could tell where about the process hung up because the apps on the phone showed up as "waiting".
Then on the iPad 2 I plugged in to sync and saw there was a huge "Other" component in my storage.  It required me to restore the iPad 2 from backup.  With this restore the same issues occurred - putting the apps back on the iPad would hang up.  The videos on the iPad also got stuck - maybe after about 10 hours of videos transfered iTunes crashed.
My solution has been to soft reset the device, restart Windows, and continue the process until it's complete.  This is remarkably inefficient and time-intensive but everything works with patience.
I have been wondering if others have had these same problems.

There's no fixed time. If it's been accepted - presumably you've been given a URL? - it should appear reasonably soon. However it can dake some days before it turns up in the search results. The podcast image, if you have one, may also take some days to appear.

It shouldn't take that amount of time. What is the screen showing? Is the progress bar frozen? The only solution would be to restart your Mac, but it's better to first check what your screen is showing

  • How long should "Disk Repair" take?

I have a G Raid 4 T external drive that I recently had shipped back from my editor. She did not use the original packing box and I fear the drive could be damaged. It starts up okay and doesn't make any suspicious noises - but it doesn't mount. I ran disk utility and it told me I need to run "Disk Repair." I've been doing this - for more than an hour so far. How long should this typically take? Should I try something else?

It's usually related to the size of the drive, which in your case, is pretty big.

How long should a migration take? Mine says about 24 hours.

I would always recommend migrating from a Time Machine backup drive...it's the most reliable (and fastest) means of moving everything over...and it's the most convenient, since you don't need to have two computers up and running to accomplish the backup.
If you'd like to some good reading on migrating everything over, I highly recommend the following site:

    I hope this helps!
    Congratulations on your new iMac.

how long should the PC to Mac migration take

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It depends on the amount of files you are transferring and the method you are using to transfer your files (Wi-Fi or Ethernet). Both methods are slow and migration would take hours if you need to transfer a lot of files.
I only recommend you to use Windows Migration Assistant if you need to transfer a small amount of files. If not, it is much better to copy your files to an external drive and transfer them to your Mac

  • How long should Asset encoding take?

I am burning a DVD of a one hour soccer game. The asset encoding process sure seems to take forever. I am well over two hours of encoding.

Hi - I'm trying to burn a 1hr 5min movie to iDVD from iMovie 4 using my G4 PB with 1.33 GHz and 768mb DDR SDRAM - I've got about 32GB free on my hard drive, but the movie is taking forever to finish 'asset encoding'. It's been doing it for about 24 hours now! There is a lot of different music files and transitions used throughout the film, but has this happened to anyone else? I'm not even sure if I should be leaving my Powerbook on for this long. Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated and how long should I leave it before I give up!?! (I can still use other programs - the whole thing doesn't seemed to have crashed)
    Thanks, Paul

Impossible to answer. Depends on things like the quality of the connection you have, congestion on the network, load on the server.

  • HT4847 How long should back up take?

How long should it take to back up my phone?!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
As Julian states it is somewhat impossible to say. However as a guide, many peoples Internet or upload speed is limited to around 1 Mb per second, at that rate each gigabyte that needs to backup will take around 2 1/4 hours.

I have the same MacBook Pro, and "eww" is absolutely right. 6-7 hours is what you will get under normal use. Now if you want to see the battery reach 10 hours, dim the screen to 6% and just do nothing. Just kidding, but you get the point.
