Id sync - AD to DS 5.2

I have idsync for windows setup and syncing users between AD and DS 5.2
Question. If a new user is created in AD and sent over to DS5.2, how do I populate their uid, gid and homedir attributes with appropriate values? (i.e and uid & gid that don't previously exist and a valid homedir).
Perhaps this is more a business process than technical question since those 3 values would have to be entered manually or using a script to validate?
thank you

Here's a code snippet from one of my scripts. When I posted this elsewhere (either here or another Sun forum) it was pointed out that it's not multi-user safe. Some type of "lock" mechanism will be necessary so concurrent users don't get the same UID.
    # sort the current password entries, start searching at UIDs
    # greater than 200.  When a sequential "hole" is found, fill it.
    uid=`getent passwd | sort -t: -n +2 -3 | awk -F: 'BEGIN{ prev=200 }
       { if ( $3 > 200 ) {
           if ( $3 != (prev +1) ) {
              print prev +1;
              exit;
           prev = $3;
       }'`GID assignment is non-trivial. You need to logically group users by task, org or project and assign accordingly.

  • Ipod no longer sync purchased material?

    Hi there. I recieve this message after i connect my ipod.
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v128/chrisgee/Failed%20Shots%20Reference/Ipodp rob.jpg
    Nothing I have purchased will sync to my ipod for some reason. I bought them ages ago, they work fine in itunes on my computer, and up until recently they worked fine on my ipod also... I think it related to the fact that due to a fault with vista i was forced to 'reactivate' windows. But it was reactivated using the same key that came with the computer? weird
    Any help appreciated.
    Cheers

    Have you tried to de-authorize your computer, then to re-authorize again?
    Make sure to use that ID that had been used for purchasing those 52 tracks.

  • Cannot sync, error message "could not be read" for an iPod no longer in use

    I have two problems. I upgraded iTunes to 7.2 and the very next morning my iPod died. It is completely unresponsive. Maybe it's coincidental. So I bought a new 80 gig iPod and gave it a different name than the old dead iPod. Now when I try to sync the new iPod, it goes for about 10 minutes, then it fails with this message:
    Attempting to copy to the disk "old iPod name" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to.
    It is complaining that it can not read the old dead iPod that is NOT hooked up to the computer! Somehow, minutes into syncing, iTunes has forgotten which iPod it is looking at. I have seen the article about the "cannont be read" message and it is not relevant. I need to make iTunes forget about the old dead iPod so it will stop looking for it. I've tried removing the files from "Documents and Settings" but iTunes still remembers the old unit. Where else does it store information? Any recommendations?

    Okay, that can sometimes be caused by a Windows drive letter confusion. For troubleshooting advice on that possibility, see the following document:
    Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

  • IPod Touch will no longer sync...error message.

    For some reason my older iPod Touch without a camera on it will not sync any more and I am getting an error message saying this iPod cannot be synced. Now I had it set up to sync over Wi-Fi and I would occasionally hook up to the computer with the cable and got error messages on both. Now I read something about removing the SC Info Folder. If I do that will that mess things up with syncing my iPhone?

    What is the exact wording of the error message?

  • Cannot send email from iPhone5--calendar syncing issues also

    I have an iPhone 5 and am not currently using iCloud.  I have 3 email accounts.
    The first is a yahoo email account--and it both receives & sends emails just fine.
    I use Outlook for the other two email accounts (one is an IMAP and the other is a POP).  Both receive email, but I cannot send out emails from my iPhone.  When I try to send an email from either account, I get this message:
    "A copy has been placed in your Outbox.  The sender address "[address I used]" was rejected by the server.
    Also, I don't know if it is related, but my iPhone calendar isn't syncing with Outlook.  I add an appointment on my iPhone or in Outlook, and it won't appear in the other location (Outlook/iPhone).
    Thanks for your help.

    Check your settings, maybe the mail index is at fault.

  • IPhone Voice Memos Won't Sync

    I have an iPhone 3GS and an iMac operating on OS X 10.6.8. When I sync my iPhone to the iMac, all of my voice memos transfer, except key memos dated before a certain date or 5/4/11. I can't figure it out. I've looked through all my preferences in iTunes and on the iPhone but without any luck. Any clue what the problem may be and how to fix it?
    Thank you...

    I got a way around it. It's a bit long but works. Email the memo to yourself and then download it. Then open it on itunes and find it inside the Music folder (top left). Then copy and place it wheneve you want. It's the only way I could managed to move them from the memo library to my prefered playlist (despite ticking the include voice memos box). For some anowying reason memos are not allowed to be moved around!

  • Voice Memos (iPhone app) doesn't sync to iTunes

    "Include voice memos" is checked in iTunes but they don't sync, no playlist is made.  The files are too large to email. Is there another way to make this happen?  I've only just begun using the application in the past few days.  Other notes: I have a new MBP (one week old) which replaced a previous MBP to which the iPhone was a long-time pal.  Since I linked the iPhone to my new MBP, each time they sync, the same 17 podcasts (1 each from 17 of the 26 to which I'm subscribed) and the same 92 songs (out of the 2000+ in playlists chosen to sync) are transferred to the iPhone.  Another issue probably...???  Thanks in advance!

  • With iPhone 4, Voice memos and a faulty Sync, does anyone know how to get a VM which didn't sync at the time into the computer?

    I have an iPhone 4 ISO 7and an iMac with Mavericks. During a sync with my phone there was a glitch and VM's did't get onto the computer. They are still on the phone.  Is there a way of getting them onto the computer?  Further attempts at sync were no solution. the computer will not read them it seems.
    Thanks,
    John

    After spending 2.5 hours on the phone with Apple, the solution was to edit it, trim a second or 2 off one end, save it as new and the computer would recognize the new file. Great.  Thanks. John

  • Syncing iPhone and voice memos?

    Hi. If I sync my iPhone with a new computer for the first time iTunes says it must "erase and sync". Will this erase my current voice memos on my iPhone?

    Oh, that's alright then.
    Urgh.
    I'm stuck in the music trap, I got a new computer and have never managed to transfer the many albums I'd painstakingly uploaded to the old library, the most important of which I have uploaded on the iPhone. I really don't want to have to start again. I quite understand that there are pirating/copywriting issues here, but why can't Apple realise that my voice memos are categorically not music! I didn't like finding them in my music library before I changed computers, but I like it even less now that I can't get them onto my computer at all. These are conversations I've recorded with my elderly father about his childhood and I really want to archive them somewhere safe - aargh!
    Does anyone have a magical solution?

  • IPhone 5 - Voice Memos won't sync.. Tried EVERYTHING!

    I have alot of Voice memo recordings of classes and lectures that I need on my computer.
    The last time memos successfully synced was in February, and even then, not ALL of the memos synced, only some of them.
    I have the "sync" memos tab checked but nothing happens now.
    I have even deleted the iTunes playlist - Voice Memos in despiration (i backed the synced ones) and tried to get iTunes to recreate the playlist and hopefully let it re-sync the others still on my phone - but no!
    I have iTunes & iPhone up to date so it's not an issue of old software.
    The files are also way to big to "share" from the iPhone as some are about an hour or so long.
    If Apple has no answer to this, can anyone reccommend a 3rd party app/software that can drag the files from my phone?
    Cheers

  • Iphone 4s voice memos not syncing to itunes?

    hi all,
    i have an iphone 4s, purchased in october 2011. all the software is up to date, as is the software on my macbook pro (running 10.5.8). the itunes version i use is 10.5.3.
    i used the voice memos function for the first time recently, have two recordings of workshops, one is 45 mins long, the other about 1 hour 15 mins long. when i came home, i connected my iphone to the macbook, launched itunes, checked the box under the music tab that said "include voice memos" and hit sync. when done syncing, i saw that under all the playlists was a section for voice memos, but nothing in it. my phone has the two voice memos, but the itunes, after syncing everything, does not. i repeat, this is despite having checked the "include voice memos" box.
    has anyone faced this issue before? is there any way for me to transfer these memos to my computer? any way to get the syncing to work?
    any help would be greatly appreciated.
    hope the new year is treating everyone well so far. cheers!...r

    I've always had the "Include Voice Memos" option selected. I think that only pertains to syncing voice memos from iTunes to the iPhone after it has been copied to iTunes. It has to be the new OS/iTunes not communicating that new memos have been recorded. For some reason they won't sync when I want them to, and then a few syncs later they magically appear.
    By the way, I'm VERY comfortable with the iTunes and iPhone systems. I've been using iTunes for 5 years, and I've been recording class lectures with the iPhone voice memo app (and another app) for a couple years. It's not an error of not seeing that the memos were added; they don't exist in my library or music folders.

  • IPhone (4) Voice Memos not Syncing to New iTunes 10.0

    I'm currently on an iPhone 4 (4.0.1 firmware) and I've been experiencing issues getting my voice memos to sync to my iTunes library.
    The last time this worked was August 27, 2010 which added 3 voice memos to my iTunes library successfully. Since then, I have not yet updated my firmware but have installed the new iTunes 10.0. I have 8 new voice memo recordings on my phone since the last successful sync, and I've tried syncing my phone four times today, Sept. 4, (restarting iTunes and my iPhone) with no luck. I tried recording a new voice memo to see if iTunes 10 would recognize any memos recorded after the installation but that failed as well.
    Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

  • IPhone syncs Voice Memos after unchecking sync box in iTunes

    I do not want to sync my voice memos from my iphone to itunes so i have unchecked the sync voice memos option and they still continue to sync over and itunes creates a playlist for voice memos. I have tried this numerous times and even after a restore it still happens? Anyone have any ideas?

    It will happen automatically. iTunes always syncs voice memos to your iTunes library when you connect iPhone to your computer. All you can do is delete them or ignore them.
    Keep in mind that if you delete a voice memo on iPhone, it isn’t deleted from the Voice Memos playlist in iTunes. However, if you delete a voice memo from iTunes, it is deleted from iPhone the next time you sync with iTunes.
    The "Include voice memos" button in the iTunes Music pane for your phone is only for syncing your voice memos playlist back to the phone.

  • How to stop syncing voice memos

    iTunes is driving me crazy because every time I sync my iPhone 5S 16GB it is importing my voice memos into my Library despite the fact that I have done the following:
    the "sync only checked songs and videos" box is checked
    the "include voice memos" box is UNCHECKED
    all of the "genre" boxes are unchecked
    I have no music on my phone
    I am using iTunes 11.1.2.32 on my Windows PC and iOP 7.1.2 on my phone.
    The only thing that I can report that works is turning off "Sync Music" entirely.
    Related, the only strange thing I can report is that when I go to the Sync Music page in iTunes, when my phone is connected by the cable, and check the box for "Sync Music," the amount of space left on my phone drops from 3.34 GB to 2.89 GB -- even though ALL of the boxes are unchecked for playlists, artists, genres, and albums, and it says "0 Songs."
    It is as if there's another whole category of songs it is syncing but it won't show it to me.
    I went to the Apple store today and they had no clue.
    Thanks for any ideas.

    How many Gigs do you have on your computer? if you convert the voice memos to AAC which is possible after you put them on iTunes, they take up virtually no room.
    When you plug in your iPod and a notice comes up asking if you want iTunes to put the voice memos from your iPod into your Library, selct "No".
    If you want the voice memos to stay off your computer, your going to have to manage every manually, if you have iTunes manage automatically, it will delete the memos off your iPod because iTunes duplicates Movies, Music, TV shows, Memos, etc, from iTunes directly to iPod. Managing all material manually is a heavy price to pay just to keep memos off your computer. That's the way it goes. If any knows hows to keep the memos out of the Library but still keep on the iPod, that would be pretty intelligent of them.

  • Dropbox syncing to wrong folder

    I have a dropbox account which syncs all my uploaded data to the Dropbox Folder in my home directory. However, recently I had changed the name of my home directory and dropbox syncs my uploaded data into the folder on the old home directory rather than to the dropbox folder in my new home directory. Can anybody help me with how to make dropbox sync the data into my new home directory? By the way, what I did in order to change my home directory name was I used this command in the terminal:
    sudo mv /Users/oldname /Users/newshortname
    and then in "Users & Groups" in System Preferences I changed my home directory in Advanced Options under my name.

    I think the Unlink This Computer button in Dropbox/Preferences/Account should remove it from the old account then Link should add it to the new account.

    I had bought an ipod for my daughters birthday n i had purchased several movies from the itunes store and they downloaded n they show up in my library n wheni check them to sync to her ipod....it shows a pop up block that says that it cannot be copied to this ipod cause it is not supportrd by this ipod.  my baby is really wanting to use it n I downloaded the itunes 10 & updated her ipod software to 4.3.3 i  think that i did all the necessary updated and downloads now what do i do...i've been on this comp eversince 11:00am this morning and it is still now 1:29am....i dont know....if anyone has any suggestions..they r welcomed

    If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
    Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
    Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
    Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
