ID3 Tags disappears when MP3 is copied

Can anyone help me with this? This problem only recently started after I upgraded. I'm using iTunes 7.0.2 Mac and when I import a regular CD it finds the ID3 tag info and imports fine. However, when i copy the MP3 files to another computer (my computer at work) the song plays fine but all the tag info is gone. This never happened before. Isn't the tag info saved in the MP3 file? What should I do to fix this?

I found a solution. Personally I think there's a bug with iTunes 7.0.2 (at least on my machine) whereby iTunes adds tag information to the library when ripping a CD but doesnt save it to the newly created mp3 file. So when you copy the mp3 file it shows up on another computer with no tag info.
I tried different things but what worked was to go to the computer that ripped the CD and that showed the tag info and select the Advanced pull-down menu and "Convert ID3 tags". I chose version 2.3. I did that to all the mp3s and iTunes saved the tag info to the file because after doing that I can now see the tag info when the mp3 file is copied to another machine.
I selected all the mp3s in my library and did the same thing just in case.
Perhaps the next upgrade will fix this bug.

  • ID3 Tags Disappear: Any Suggestio

    I've been having problems with getting my ID3 tags to stay put. They're all loaded on my Zen Micro properly, and when I transfer my library from the Micro to the Music Library, they all show up properly in Media Explorer as well. So far, so good.
    Then, when I actually go to Windows Explorer, many of the files are missing some or all of their ID3 tag information. So if I clear the Music Library and move the files that I've copied from the Zen Micro to the hard dri've of my computer, then reimport those files from my computer to the Music Library in Explorer, many of them are all screwed up.
    I'm not sure what's going on here. Any suggestions as to what's the cause/what to do? I want to use MP3Gain to normalize all of my tracks, but I also don't want to re-enter a bunch of tags I've already done before.
    (Summary version of above)
    ) MP3s transferred from Micro to PC. Tags OK in Micro, show up fine in Media Explorer when viewing them on Micro or Library.
    2) MP3s checked on PC. Tags Missing.
    3) Library cleared.
    4) MP3s from PC reimported to Library. Tags Missing.

    Try selecting all of them in Media Source and then right click on the selection. I thought there was an update ID3 tag or similar option there. I know I have used Media Source to tag my files before. I will take a look when I get home again and see how I did it.

  • ID3 tag editor on MP3 play

    Hi all,
    How is it possible to change the ID3 tag info on your mp3 player itself?I own a Vision:M but if you need to select the folder/removable disk with the Creative Media Toolbox (Auto Tag Cleaner) the Vision:M doesn't appear as a removable disk, but when I open 'My Computer' it is shown as an 'Audio-Device'...
    All help is welcome !
    Greatz, Von Belgium

    Scratch that!
    I just found out how to edit tags already on your player. Basically connect your player to your pc, open up Mediasource, and right click the song you want to change and click Properties. There you can change the fields and the changes will show up on the player.
    Check out epizenter.net in a little while. I'll be making a picture guide for this.

  • BPM tags disappear when song is played

    I have every song tagged with beats per minute. After upgrading to 8.1 the BPM disappears when the song is played. What gives?

    The ID3 spec says the BPM tag is supposed to be an integer, but prior versions of iTunes for Windows used to accept values like 100.98 by showing the integer part (e.g. 100). This will be fixed in a future version.

  • Itunes deleted id3 tags on my mp3s automatically

    the "let itunes organize your music" box is unchecked, and i imported my cds as mp3s, as i removed the songs from the itunes library (not the files), it took off all the tags!!!! i spent hours importing cds, once i removed the songs from the library, then dragged the folder back into the itunes window, the tags to the album, track #, artist, etc weren't there anymore!!!!! just the file name. WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!!!! the program shouldn't have authority to mess with the id3 tags that are embedded into the mp3s once i remove the song from itunes!!! RIGHT?! what am i supposed to do with all the unlabeled mp3s!?!1 i'm not going to use iEatBrainz for everything, thats rediculous! could someone else try removing their songs from the itunes 6 version like the one i have here and see if they have the same problem?? its gotta be from the same folder where all your imported music goes....
    this is making me soooo mad. i need an alternative program cuz this ain't working for me.

    If you remove a song from the iTunes library the file will remain in the location that it was previously BUT the tune is removed from the library. The id3 tag was never changed. If you go back to the file in its' original location you can put it back into the iTunes library and all the id3 info is still there.
    Usually it is best to let iTunes organize you library - unless you have a special reason not to let iTunes organize.
    I removed tunes from my libary - keeping the files - then added them back and all was as it should be. If you are looking at the file via the finder the only info that you will see is the song title (the same info as in the "Name" column in iTunes). iTunes names the file on the HD the same as what is in the "Name" field.

  • Getting Information from ID3 tags from streamed mp3 files in Flash CS4 AS3.0

    Hi everyone:
    I have spend my whole day trying to find a good way to access ID3 tags in AS3.0; but didn't find anything helpful.
    In my project I am making a sound object and assigning it a URL:
    Then I stream the sound into a sound channel:
    var s:Sound = new Sound(new URLRequest('URL here"));
    var sc:SoundChannel;
    My problem:
          I want to read the ID3 tag somehow and display the artist name or anything in the ID3 tag, onto the screen.
    Complication:
         I Have the URL change through user input, and naturally I want to update all the information with the new ID3 tags information.
    var s:Sound = new Sound(new URLRequest('NEW URL here"));
    Thank you for any help!

    I know I took it out because it didn't work. I had something like this:
    var soundLoaderContext:SoundLoaderContext = new SoundLoaderContext();
    soundLoaderContext.checkPolicyFile = true;
    var music:Sound = new Sound(new URLRequest("URL #1 (from my server)"));
    var sc:SoundChannel;//sound channel
    var isPlaying:Boolean = false;//checks f music is playing or not

         isPlaying = true;
         playPause_mc.gotoAndStop(2);

          name_txt = id3.songName;
          album_txt = id3.album;
          artist_txt = id3.artist;
    This is mostly just taking the exact code from the website I mentioned earlier.
    When I run this it outputs the trace command 1 time and nothing more. Only the trace(trace(id3.artist + ' - ' + id3.songName);) gets triggered once.
    No errors. No warning. Not working.

  • DIV tags disappear when put over swf file background

    I am working on a site which has a swf movie as a background
    which fills the browser window(SWFobject). When I place DIV tags,
    which reference a CSS id and contain swf files as well, over the
    top (for absolute positioning, etc.) they disappear when previewed
    in a browser . Is there a reason that the swfobject always takes on
    top position in the browser? Do I need to change something in the
    SWFoject javascript file, in the code or within either the CSS file
    or the dreamweaver HTML code? Here is a link to a site that is very
    similar to what I am working on.

    Any help would be most appreciated.

    All Active content on a page will always rise to the top, so
    to speak,
    including Flash, certain form elements, Java applets, and
    Active X controls.
    This means that each of these will poke through layers. There
    is not a good
    cross-browser/platform reliable way to solve this issue, but
    if you can be
    confident in your visitors using IE 5+ or NN6+, then you can
    use the Flash
    wmode parameter (however, Safari does not support this
    properly!).

  • Reading the ID3 tag of a mp3 file

    does anybody know how i can read a MP3 file ID3 tag???
    i know the text is at the end of the file... i'm not sure if i can use a pre written bit of code that will do it or if i will have to write the code myself to back track through the file...
    thanks
    david

    I bet there are dozens of examples to do this. Look on www.freshmeat.net and punch in 'Java ID3 mp3 parse'

  • How do i edit id3 tags for all mp3s in a folder?

    If I have a folder of mp3s, how do I set all of their id3 album tags to the same album? For instance, in Windows you can just select all of the files and then right click and go to Properties where any tags you edit get applied to each of the files. I'd prefer to do it all in Finder, but if there's some way through iTunes, or another app, I'd be glad to hear about it.

    That's the problem though, the tracks aren't in the same album according to their current id3 tags.

  • Tags disappear when I open and save a file

    I've tagged some pdfs to help organize them in their folder. If I open one to edit it, the tag disappears as soon is the file is closed.
    Thus destroying the organization, as I've got the folder set to arrange by tabs.
    Is this a bug or somebody's idea of a feature? Any way to change this behavior?

    Well, you could just make your firewall behave and create an exception rule as the warning suggests... It's unlikely that this is PS itself, anyway. Eitehr it's a flakey driver or a cracked plug-in you may be using (not implying anything here, so keep cool) may produce a wrong hash value/ signature and trigger the alarm.

  • ID3 tags change when copying Vision:M to

    After tagging all my music using Tag&Rename as well as the Software provided with my zen, I transferred all my music to my Zen.
    Now when I transfer it back to my PC, all the track and album names are the original ones before I changed them.
    Why is this and how can I change them back?

    <FONT face=Helv size=2>
    Use Creative MediaSource instead.
    - Launch Creative MediaSource Oragnizer.
    - Go to Tools->Settings->PC Music Library and click Properties. Set your preferred folder and file naming convention. Close the setting page.
    - In the Sources window, click to view PC Music Library.
    - Go to View->Right Panel View and select to view your MP3 player.
    - Transfer the tracks from your MP3 player to MediaSource's PC Music Library by clicking the arrow pointing from right to left.
    - If you have updated the track information of the tracks in your MP3 player, the updated track information will also be imported into the PC Music Library database. However, the tags of the files are not updated. Here is what you need to do. Right click the PC Music Library node in the Sources window or right click on any tracks in the PC Music Library window and select "Update Tag". This will update the tag of all the tracks or the selected tracks with the track information as seen in the PC Music Library.

  • Retaining ID3 Tag information when transferring from player to computer.

    I know that this has been discussed already, but I'm having a tough time finding it... I have the zen touch and I was wondering if anyone could direct me to the post with information on how to keep the ID3 information on the player when music is transferred on to the computer instead of having it change over to the original information before it was put on the player?....or perhaps someone could reply with instructions on how to do this?

    In MediaSource's Tools->Settings->PC Music Library, click Properties to set the folder and filename convention. Then transfer the tracks from your MP3 player to MediaSource's PC Music Library. After that, right-click the PC Music Library node in MediaSource's Sources window (which is the leftmost window in MediaSurce) and select Update Tag. This will update the tag of the audio files with the track information seen in PC Music Library. Please note that the Update Tag feature is only available in MediaSource v3.

  • Mavericks Server - Files/Folders disappearing when saving or copying.

    Hello,
    I have a Mac Mini running Mavericks(Server) with a Promise raid attached.
    The users are part of a 'Staff_All' group and said group has RW access to the file server through ACL. A few times now the user has created a folder and upon copying items, saving items or even creating new items in the folder the items will disappear from their view. If I log in to the server itself the items are fully visible, and upon creating a new folder on the server and copying the folder contents into the new folder he can see the items just fine. This doesn't always happen, so the work around for now is have the user create a new folder and recopy the items into the new folder. I have tried connecting as SMB2 and AFP, same results. Nothing looks odd with the permissions.
    Any insight that can be provided would be appreciated.

    In the sidebar of the Server.app window, select the icon at the top with the name of the server. Then select the Storage tab in the main window pane.
    Navigate to the folder in question and select it. From the popup menu at the bottom with a gear icon, select
              Edit Permissions...
    Verify that the permissions are what they should be, and make changes if necessary. Then, from the same menu, select
              Propagate Permissions...
    Check all applicable boxes, including Access Control List. If in doubt, check all boxes. Click OK.

  • Pictures disappear when I move/copy from USB to mac Mini.

    Why the system deletes the pics? It started when I upgraded to Lion. It begins the copy but at the end just vanish from the folder.
    I´m  having a lot of trouble since I work on a magazine and almost all the pictures from the brands comes in USB sticks.
    Please help.

    I had a problem copying any image files in LION. Thumb drive to MBPro (vice-versa) or even using finder to copy/paste or duplicate. The progress bar would go through the steps, but the final files vanished. Folders would copy and be empty.
    I went to the Apple Store Genius Bar and the beautiful young genius proved she was just that.
    She verified that the problem existed and was repeatable. She then wen to the guest account and tried it there where it did NOT occur. This told her that it was my login's issue.
    She deleted: com.apple.finder.plist & com.apple.finder.plist.lockfile from my preferences and my issue was gone. They are just preferences, so there is little harm in trashing them and trying. I had to redo some passwords the computer now forgot, but at least I can copy.
    Don't know if this will help anybody else, but it seems some people have run into an issue similar to mine.
