  • Satellite Pro A10 fails to boot - IDE #0 ERROR

On starting I get the Toshiba start-up screen and there is a regular clicking from the HDD. After 20-30 seconds I get:
    IDE #0 ERROR
then a pause, followed by the following codes from the boot agent (Intel FE v4.1.09)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent
    Insert system disc in drive.
I have a nasty feeling that the HDD has died. I can replace it if required, but is there any way of extracting the files from it before I go this far?

Thats a clear symptom of a HDD fault.
The +IDE#0+ error means that the BIOS didnt recognize the HDD (due to a hardware fault probably) and cannot boot from the HDD.
Then it swishes to the further boot possibility > LAN
The +PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable+ error appears because the notebook cannot boot from LAN.
I think you should simply replace the HDD and then you should reinstall the OS again.
    This helps for sure.

  • Satellite Pro A10: IDE#1 Error - drive appears only if CD is inserted

    Hi,
I was recently laying on my bed watching a DVD when I fell asleep with the laptop sat next me on my bed. During the night however I moved and accidently knocked it off the side of my bed.
The next day when I booted it up on loading it said IDE#1 Error which I have since come to understand is a CD/DVD drive error, The unit itself works fine, boots up ok (except the IDE error), and I can use it as normal except that there is no DVD drive in 'My computer' which is a bit of a pain when I want to watch a film/play a game or install something.
The drive itself is totally unresponsive, when I press the eject button the tray it doesn't do a thing.
I decided to try and remove and re-seat the drive to see if it was just knocked loose when it fell off the bed as it only fell a short way (about an 18" drop.)
I removed all the covers on the bottom of the laptop and checked that everything was seated correctly and to try and figure out how to remove the drive but didn't want to get too adventurous as to make the situation worse, the only thing i did do is remove the CPU fan and remove some fluff and remove the HDD and had a look to make sure it wasn't damaged in anywhere (it wasn't) and then replaced it and replaced all the covers.
When I rebooted the system it booted up fine as usual and the drive responds when I press the eject button, but the DVD drive is now (sometimes) displayed in 'My computer' but only when I insert something (be it a DVD/Game/Program) and then it displays an error message stating there is an I/O error on the device.
Any help from you all would be a great help, I was thinking of just removing the drive and replacing it with a new one such as a DVD RW one but I don't know how so I would be very grateful for any advice/guidance you could provide.
    Many Thanks,
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
It is possible that reseating your optical drive may be necessary to return it to full functionality. Unfortunately on the A10 this will involve some dismantling in order to reach its securing screw which is underneath the keyboard.
Please check the following link for full dismantling instructions. The DVD drive is covered in step 13. http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/ToshibaA15/SatelliteA15_laptop_disassembly_1.htm

  • Satellite Pro A10 - IDE 1# Error on boot up

HI there, i have a Satellite pro A10 and all has been working fine for the last few years until now.
A few days ago i started getting an error reading cd's / dvd's invalid disc format yet the discs work fine on every other pc.
Today i am getting IDE#1 error on boot up... the laptop is still standard from when i got it off the shelf. thinking the drive may have died due to wear and tear i replaced the drive with a working drive and i still get the same error. I have removed the ODD altogether and its still coming up.
I have also updated the bios from usb floppy which was successful. and the best part of all this. the dvd rom that came with the laptop works fine in my other tosh a10!!!!!!
Anyone got any ideas. i don really want to replace the main board if i can help it. this is the only issue with the laptop.
    thx in advance people.

    Hello James
IDE 1# Error is typical when ODD is not accepted by the system. The reason for that can be defective drive or usage of non-compatible drives. The fact is that every drive can not be used with every notebook model because of different pin assignment.
In your case it is really strange that drive work on other A10 but not on this one. Because of that I presume there is maybe some problem with connectors. I am afraid there is not much to do. You can try to check them and see if they are clean and not oxidized.
Sorry but we can only speculate what the problem can be but, like you know, only intensive test can give you more answers.
Good luck and pleas let us know if you will find out what the problem is.

  • IDE #0 Error on Satellite Pro A10

We have a Sat Pro A10 which shows the following errpr on boot; IDE #0 Error.
The bios is not showing a hard drive.
Have tried a new hard drive, same error

    Hello
This error is definitely because of HDD. If there is no success with new HDD it must be problem with contacts or with HDD controller on the mainboard.
Please contact your local dealer or Toshiba ASP directly. I really don't believe that you can do anything alone.

  • IDE #1 Error on Satellite Pro A10

Hi, My Satellite Pro A10 laptop displays IDE #1 Error everytime I attempt to put it on. That message is all I get, although it is displayed for a short time- the laptop always comes back to that message, it attempts to load the screen just go's blanbk and then that message comes up everytime! I was wondering if anyone could explain what this means and how do i fix it?
    thank you
    david

    Hi
This is very strange that this error message appears and you have not changed the drive.
Did you try to 'flash' the drive or to install any firmware or update the BIOS?
I ask it because I can't believe that this error message appears without any reasons.
Like Jack and Silas say, this error appears because of no compatibility of the drive.
The unit was delivered with compatible drive and should works. I assume the BIOS cannot recognize the drive at this time because it's dead.
In my opinion you have to replace the drive. (try to check it it's possibel to install/to boot Toshiba recovery CD)
Ps: Just for info: I have read in the net that sometimes it's possible to flash the drive with any illegal software to change the master/slave settings but this is not advisable. But I have never tried it.
I have also read in the forum that if this error message appears every time and it's not possible to use the drive and the BIOS cannot recognize this device so the connection of pin 45 and 47 could solve this issue sometimes.

  • Satellite A25-s3072 and LG GWA-4082N DVD - IDE #1 error

    Hi,
i just bought GWA-4082N DVD, firmware CS01. It doesn't want to work
with my laptop, Toshiba Satellite A25 ( Win XP SP2, latest available
bios v1.4). After turning it on, "IDE #1 error" appears, and windows
boots without DVD. And it does not appear in Device Manager.
I find a way to make it show up in windows by changing in BIOS
"Configuration" part from "All Devices" to "Setup by OS", but this
error still appears. Most probably ( didn't try yet, but people say
this) laptop will not boot from CD in this case. Also, laptop does not
show DVD if i don't open/close the tray during Windows loading! It
flashes the light on the BIOS loading stage, but disappear whn Windows starts to load...
DVD is set to Master by connecting 2 pins (45 & 47), as it was recommended
in some forums, but it does not resolve the issue.
Also, putting a paper to isolate 45-47 pins to make it Slave does not help either
(DVD is not shown in the Device Manager).
Is there a program (csel-changer) to change Master/Slave mode available?
I try also to reflash it with HV02 firmware from TDB page ( i understand
that this is for Toshiba laptops specifically , originally DVD came
with CS01 firmware). "IDE #1 error" still here.
Question is - are there any suggestions , how to make it works on BIOS level
with my laptop ? I need CD booting and hate IDE #1 error.
Is there any firmware specifically for Toshiba laps, for this DVD, which allow BIOS to recognize it?
Please, if you have GWA -4082N DVD working with your laptop, let me know what is a firmware version?
DVDinfo or Nero InfoTool can help to find it out.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

    Hi,
    thanks a lot for answers!
    > This occurs if there is different pin assignment on
    > the notebook and the drive. Because of that the
    > notebook and the drive can not ??communicate?? and
    > drive is not recognized correctly by BIOS.
Well, pin assignment _should_ be the same. I think it's a standard.
People with the same problem fixed it completely by connecting pins 45-47,
or by using csel-switch programs (available for NEC for example, but not LG).
    > It is always best option to replace the drive with the same one.
I was looking for DVD burner, my present drive is Combo, but i need to write DVD.
    > Next time before you do something like that be
    > careful and pick up all possible information.
Yes, i definitely will look for all possible sources :)
Problem is that this drive is new, probably not many users had it.
Or they were lucky with other brands of laptops.
As far as i saw, people managed to fix the problem with new DVD by connecting pins, change firmware, etc.
Unfortunately this is not my case :-(
BTW, i bought this laptop 3 years ago, so new compatible models of DVD will not be in the list (in manual),
and that models that are in the list are old, or even not supported any more :-\
Interesting thing is that i forced this drive to work (read, record, etc) by changing in BIOS
"Configuration" part from "All Devices" to "Setup by OS", so most probably pins are the same, but something
in the BIOS does not work properly , so no CD booting available.

  • Satellite A50-512 PSA50E - IDE #0 ERROR

SATELLITE SA50-512 It does'nt detect any harddrive.
In Acpi bios V. 1.20 i get the msg.:
    DRIVES I/0
    BUILT-IN HDD
    =NO DRIVE
    CD-ROM =SECONDARY IDE(170H/IRQ15)
    And in dos the msg.:
    IDE #0 ERROR
It is NOT hdd problem, because i have tried 3 other harddrives from Toshiba with same rpm and cap. and 2 other in the store without any luck.(All harddrives working perfectly on other laptops
It is a very old Pc and therefor i do not have any recovery cd for it either.
It has no Fdd so updating bios with Cd was unsuccessful.(couldnt make diskett from Bios-update file "P0015v140" in other computer either)
I have tried everything i could find on google in over 3 weeks without any luck.
So wondering if there is a way to fix this....
    Thanks

    Thats really strange
Looks like the notebook is muddled up completely
On the Toshiba European driver page (in Archive area) the BIOS 1.40-Win version has been published.
But its a win based version and can be upgraded only from running Windows system.
In my opinion the technician should check the hardware parts (HDD controller, motherboard) maybe the guys would be able to update the BIOS using an special BIOS version

  • IDE #1 ERROR on start up Satellite Pro Series 2100

Hi... I am getting a IDE #1 ERROR displayed on starting the computer. My CD/DVD drive doesn't seem to be recognised (In Device Manager the drive is not shown) and certainly doesn't work at all. I have not installed a new CD/Drive drive, it's the original factory supplied.
Also, another clue is when I press any of the dvd control buttons on front panel the following pop-up window appears:
"The drive setting in Toshiba controls is wrong. so the audio/video control buttons won't work. Please select the correct drive letter.for the internal CD/DVD drive"
However on the drop-down box there is no drive letter to select!
Any help would be gratefully receieved. Many thanks, Matt

    HI Matt,
it seems that your IDE Controller is damaged. For playing safe you should recover the notebook with the Toshiba recovery Image and if the failure occures on a fresh new system, the IDE controller is bad!
It could be possible that only the IDE cable is loose, but to kow that it would be better to bring the notebook to a Toshiba Service Partner!

  • Satellite Pro 4290: How to solve the IDE #1 error issue

I have recently aquired a DVD-ROM drive to upgrade my Sat Pro 4290 optical drive from a CD-ROM to DVD-ROM. As suspected I am having the problem that the drive is not recognised and get the IDE #1 error.
I can get windows XP to recognise the drive by deleting the Secondary IDE Channel in the Hardware and then searching for new new hardware. It then installs the IDE Channel and then finds and installs the DVD-ROM and works fine. I reboot the laptop and back to square one!
I understand it is something to do with the settings on the motherboard and somebody has resolved this by soldering pins to different places on theh IDE connectors.
I do not want to risk this and was wondering if anybody found an easier way of doing this?
    Many Thanks

    Hi
    > I understand it is something to do with the settings on the motherboard and somebody has resolved this by soldering pins to different places on the IDE connectors.
Thats not 100% true. This is not a setting issue on the motherboard but the setting of the CD/DVD drive.
The drive supports different master\slave\c-sel settings and if they are not compatible the BIOS will not recognize the drive correctly.
On the external drives (for desktop PC) its possible to change such settings by switching the jumper but this is not possible to the slim notebooks drives.
The notebook drives settings are stored in the firmware!!
I found different not legal tools which can change the master/slave/c-sel settings but I would not recommend using it.
The risks are too high that the drive will be damage.
So try to replace the drive with a compatible one

    thx in advance,

    Hi Maarten
I suppose that there is some problem with HDD. Obviously the HDD is not recognized by BIOS and it is not possible to access on it.
Please contact your local dealer immediately and explain him the problem.

    Hi,
The JDev 10.1.3 IDE display errors on running JSP in following cases:
    1) When tag libs declaration in include file.
    2) When jstl/struts tags are used in javascript
JDev 10.1.2 didn't diplay those errors
    More details:

    Hi,
Same message but with formatting tags.
Closing tag is [ / code ] without blanks.
    Thanks to Didier,
IDE displayed errors => jsp runs and compiles ok.
It is not obvious to reproduce those errors because they vary upon external or internal tag declaration.
    Remark:
I tried replacing jsp tag declaration:
<%@ include file="../../helper/TagLibsInclude.jsp"%>by simple file but it doesn't help:

You don't have to remove the tag declaration, but I prefer to keep my jsp as clean as possible.

  • Tecra A2: IDE #1 error after firmware update

I have a tecra a-2 notebook after installing a new firmware to toshiba dvd rom sd-r2512 combo i get this message during boot and the drive is unaccesible .What should i do?
(i've searched about , some guys solved it by changing the pins i am newbie i am not sure what is a pin is there any other simple solution for this)

    Hi
Where did you find the firmware?
I assume you have used not compatible or not supported firmware and this software has either changed the master/slave/csel settings or possibly has damage the drive.
This ide #1 error appears if the BIOS cannot find the drive.
This happens because of the wrong settings or corrupt drive.
Unfortunately, I dont see any chances to solve this problem. It seems you have damage the drive ;(

  • IDE #0 ERROR

Hi, My Toshiba R150 shows the message 'IDE #0 ERROR' when booting up. I have tried the recovery CD supplied with the computer but it doesn't work. I assume that I have to buy a new 1.8" drive? Does anyone have any tips as to whether my machine will accept an 80GB hard drive (the original is 40GB)?
Is it easy to replace? I've never done it before and am reluctant to open up the machine without some advice.
    Thanks.

Yah you can use an 80GB HDD on your computer as long as it is compatible. If you want, you can try calling Toshiba National Parts Depot to order a new HDD. The phone number is (800) 524-8338.

  • Portege M100 - Dvd Drive IDE 1 error

I have tryed to replace the cdrw/dvd combo drive to a dvd rw drive but when it loads it says IDE 1 error but its weird you cannot boot off of it but in xp you can use it.
I'm sure its something to do with the Bios.
Any help would be very much appreciated
    Thanks

    > I have tried to replace the cdrw/dvd combo drive to a dvd rw drive but when it loads it says IDE 1 error but its weird you cannot boot off of it but in xp you can use it.
I think you have used a CD/DVD drive with wrong master/slave/c-sel settings.
If the drive doesnt support the right settings, the BIOS will not recognize it and the IDE #1 error will appear like in your case
You should know that not all drives are compatible. Im not quite sure if your user manual contains the info of supported and compatible drives but you could check it
Otherwise I would recommend contacting the authorized service partner in your country to get a list of compatible drives or to order a right one.
    Cheers
