Ideal size for pdf portfolio?

i made mine in InDesign and exported it and it is 1M.  from what i've read it should be fine, but is this too big to send to prospective employers?

Anything under 5MB is okay more or less. The main issue is how fast it will load on the receiving end. You may want to upload an swf file to your server and then email a link to it. It will load fast and turn pages faster. I've done it both ways. PDF and SWF link.

  • Ideal size for library?

Is there an "ideal" size for the library? I notice that after 1gb iPhoto slows a bit.
What are some suggestions for the optimal size before moving it to an external HD? Mahalo. JB

You should really not be having any problems with that much RAM, unless your expectations for performance are really high - is the slowdown disproportionate?
About what icon size are you using for the Organize view, how big is your screen, etc.? iPhoto 4 was dog slow, and iPhoto 5 got slower, but iPhoto 6 has been nothing short of zippy.
You should try rebuilding your thumbnails if you haven't recently. Cmd-Option while launching iPhoto brings you four checkbox options. If you have the time, pick the first three, rebuild, and see if that helps (it's the iPhoto equivalent of take two aspirins and call me in the morning)

  • How do I create a welcome page for PDF portfolio in Acrobat X?

When making portfolios in v9 i was able to add a welcome page to my PDF portfolio. However, since I upgraded I am no longer able to locate this fucntion. Does it still exist and if so how do i access it? If it doesn't exist can anyone explain to me why Adobe would think it wasn't a relevant feature and disable it in vX?

You need to setup a script to handle this for you.  Typically most people do this with a solution like CPanels Web Host Manager.  But it depends on your server environment what you would use.

  • ConvertPDF :: toImage for PDF portfolio

Can we convert all pages within a PDF portfolio by using ConvertPDF's toImage at once?
Or do we have to get each file from the portfolio first, then invoke toImage against each sub-files?
    Thx,

  • What is the ideal size for you music artwork?

I wonder what the ideal artwork is for your music?
Because on the pictures below you can see that there is still som white on the upper and bottom place of the artwork and it is a 600 x 600 artwork.. And I Have an iPhone 4S so the artwork needs to be high resolution
    Thanks

Trim off any unsightly borders in an image editor and resize to square of similar size to the original, or smaller if you want to save space. There is no point resizing a 200x200px image to 600x600px, but reducing a larger image sourced from the web would be a good move.

  • Is there a maximum size for a portfolio? (am creating one with 5,000 excel, etc. files)

I don't yet know the final size - wondering if there is a maximum??? thanks.

There's a mathematical limit due to the architecture of PDF object references but it's way beyond anything you could create in practice. Because the Acrobat Family are 32-bit applications you'll find there are performance issues if the file count gets too high - exactly when that becomes a problem depends on both the files and the hardware opening them, but given an XLSX file isn't displayed within the Portfolio (other than as an icon) it'll be less of an issue then if the files were PDFs, videos, etc.

  • Reducing AI file sizes for PDF distribution

    Greetings all,
Using CS2 Illustrator, I have a file that is approximately 14.5M large. It's completely black and white, with a b/w photo. I was thinking that when I saved it as a pdf file, the size of the pdf document would be considerably smaller so people could send it by email. It came down to 1.9, but I'd like to get it smaller than that. I'm guessing I have to reduce the size of the embedded photo?
I also have a version of the file with a color photo. It's AI size is 34.1M, it's converted pdf file size is 32.5. I'm desparate for a method that will get these two documents down below 1M size so that members of my Barbershop Chorus can send the pdf files out announcing our upcoming show.
    Any help GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bond

When you save the PDF, Illustrator will downsample images according to the settings you chose. Downsampling the source images won't help for file size. Usually the biggest source of bloat is leaving "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" on. This adds the entire Illustrator file to the PDF.
I suggest you start with Smallest File Size and adjust the downsample options under Compression. Reduce image resolution if sizes are still too big or increase resolution or image quality if sizes can be increased and quality is unacceptable.

  • Maximum Number of Pages and File Size for PDFs

Assuming that your computer has ample CPU, memory, and storage, how many pages and what file size does Adobe recommend that you limit a single PDF to using Acrobat Pro XI in order to avoid any issues.

I don't know whether there's a limit on number of pictures you can add to a book
as long as they are contained in 100 pages, which is the maximum photo pages on a book.

  • IAttachment api question for PDF Portfolios

I have been working on a custom portfolio for a while now and have a pretty good understanding of most of the new feature.  I am currently have a problem though where i drill down into a folder and want to play the videos that are in said folder.  I can always launch the preview in a stand alone mode but that neither looks good or is what my client is looking for.  I want to be able to play the .flv or .swf through a media player embedded on my display (pretty much the rotate view but with playable movies instead of thumbnails).  The problem is that I have not been able to access my movie attachments.  The IAttachment class comes with a path property that describes itself to be a string path to the file I am trying to play.  Naturally I assumed I could do something like (say the file is a swf) binding the source property of a SWFLoader to attachment.path and call it a day.  This is unfortunately far from the case.  I am not if it has something to do with the path being broken or not but thats what i assume.  I also find it interesting that the fileName property is supposed to be the last portion of the path property but no matter where my file is located (root or in a sub folder) the path is always the same as the fileName.  Bug or a simple misunderstanding?  Hopefully an adobe guru can help me with this one.

  • Ideal size for publishing for iPad

I'm creating a interactive eBook with pages being designed in Edge Animate. As of revision 28 of the DPS viewer, the 20px iOS status bar will always be displayed. As a result, I set my article size and folio size (landscape only) to be 1024 x 748. However, the in the viewer there is a 20px vertical black line that overlaps the far right edge of my article. How do I fix this? What is the correct folio size and article size when targeting landscape iPads?

Thanks for your replies. I've set the document size/margins as recommended by joev.
Joev - I'm getting a 12 pixel black bar on the right side of my articles ...
What is this and how do I remove it?
    Thanks,
    Patrick

  • Archiving email into PDF portfolio

I'm trying to set-up for archiving emails from my Outlook 2007 (Win) to one or more PDF Portfolios.  I have Acrobat Pto XI  v. 11.0.3  I made a test portfolio from a small number of emails and it works great-- fully sortable and easy to do-- the Adobe TV how to was very helpful.  However, I'm bringing in a folder of received email and a folder of sent email, and the directory listing of emails at the top includes the "From" field, but not the "To" field, so for all of my sent emails there is no useful info (they're all from me).  How can I make the portfolio display the "To" field, as well?  I know that the info is in there because I can filter on the "To" field.  One other question, since I plan to use this solution, my plan is to bring a large number of emails in, many with large attachments--do I need to be concerned about limitations on number of emails or total file size for each portfolio?
    Thank you.

If you go to the top of the table listing in the Outlook Portfolio and right-click, you can turn on the To: column.

  • Best Slide Size for SlideShow

I am preparing a slide show to be presented on a large screen television set. A 50 incher.
What would be the ideal size for my slides to be sized before I add them to the iDVD slide show board? Better to save them as pdf files or simple jpeg images?
I tried to look this information up on the iDVD help menu on my computer but the help function does not work. Thanks.

I don't believe that you can decrease the font size for PDFs in iBooks.

  • Can't Build a PDF Portfolio

The HELP function suggests building a PDF Portfolio, which would be helpful for me when doing serches on PDF documents.  But when I go to the File drop-down menu, no option appears for PDF portfolio, as the HELP instructions says there should occur.  How do I build a Portfolio?

Adobe Reader can't create PDF Portfolios. In Adobe Acrobat use 'Combine Files'.

  • Does Digital Editions support PDF Portfolios?

I guess the answer is "no" but does Adobe Digital Editions offer any support for PDF Portfolios?

I put this in another post, I am not trying to spam.  I have spent too much time frustrated with this ADE problem that I just want to make sure others get the message...
Here is a plan that works.  I just did it on my Nook HD+.  It requires a Dropbox account which is free and easy to set up.
    1. Install Dropbox on your Nook HD.
    2. On your computer or other device, put the .epub file for your book in a Dropbox folder.
    3. Open the .epub file on your Nook HD.
    4. Read and enjoy.
(It may prompt you to select which reader you want to use in step 3.  Since I have the Books a Million reader on mine, it asked if I wanted to use that or the generic reader.  Both worked to open the book.)
