Identity of podcast downloads in itunes 11

In itunes 10, I could see what podcasts were downloading, and know immediately whether I wanted to keep them.
In itunes 11 I can see that, say, 4 podcasts are being downloaded, but I only actually know one of them (on the title bar). The sidebar (which I have unhid) doesn't seem to reveal what podcasts and episodes are downloading?  Is there some other way this can be accessed in real time?
Thanks.

  • Can no longer play podcasts downloaded on itunes on 2nd generation shuffle, is there a fix?

Ever since the latest version of itunes was unleased (Apple is so going downhill if this is any indication) my ipod Shuffle 2nd generation (I have 2) will not play podcasts downloaded on itunes. I get orange, green, orange, green lights and then nothing - because the ipod cannot recognize the files apparently. They both do the same thing, I load, they show up as loaded on itunes, I press play, the lights. If I download the podcast from the originator site directly, they play no problem. I have the latest update for the Shuffles, have reset them numerous times and yet the problem persists. I only use these Shuffles to load podcasts daily. I remove them as soon as I listened and then put new podcasts on the next day. Why do I have 2? Because I bought a second one when this started and I thought the Shuffle was broken - now both act exactly the same. Even old podcasts that played fine months ago will not play on the shuffle any longer. Is there any fix? I assume someone else is a podcast listener and is having this same problem and maybe has a solution.

Switch the mode to single plat, not shuffle.

  • Problem with my podcast downloading to iTunes

The last 2 days, my podcast http://www.rippernet.com/Rippercast/Podcast/Podcast.html has been unable to be downloaded via the iTunes Music Store. People can subscribe ok and have the episodes downloaded into iTunes but cannot get it via it's Music Store page. I get the error message "There was a problem downloading 'Rippercast-Your Podcast on the Jack the Ripper Murders'. The URL http://www.rippernet.com/Site/Podcast/rss.xml" could not be found on the server." It worked fine for roughly month up until this.
I use iWeb and iDisk with a dotmac account for my podcast.
Yesterday I used Dreamweaver to add a line into the rss feed for Music Store artwork, but was having problems a day before this.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Jonathan

I've gone into the rss.xml file located on my idisk at Web/Sites/RC/Podcast and edited it in Dreamweaver to input the 'itunes new feed url' script to match the one that itunes says it cannot find.
What seems to have happened is that my Url was changed somehow from "rippernet/Site Podcast" to "rippernet/rippercast/podcast/podcast"
Is this the right rss.xml file I edit for the iTunes Music Store? Does it just take a while for iTunes M.S. to refresh?
Is there any support for helping mac podcasters deal with these iWeb-iDisk-iTunes Music Store issues? I don't even know if the problem is on my end or lies with iTunes. I'd rather not tinker anymore with the rss.xml file if I'm not even sure the rss feed is the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I record 2 podcasts this weekend and the next 4 weeks are booked with guests.
    Thanks

  • Podcast downloading freezes iTunes

I have been having this problem consistently for the last couple of days. I have a MacBook with 2Ghz Core Duo and 2GB RAM, OSX 10.4.8.
When I open iTunes, it immediately begins refreshing my podcasts. This appears normal for the first few seconds, but within 5-10 seconds I get the "spinning beachball of death" and the program hangs. I have tried leaving it in the hope that it will right itself but inevitably it just keeps going (and the computer starts to heat up, turn on the fan, etc). The only solution is to force quit.
    Am I doing something wrong?

Okay, found a solution. I've been having this problem since yesterday. This is what solved it for me. Hope it works for you, too.
I set iTunes to manual checking of new episodes in the preferences so it wouldn't crash when I opened it. I then selected "Podcasts" in the lefthand column of iTunes. Then, from within iTunes, I deleted all of the existing podcasts from the library. I DID NOT MOVE THE FILES TO THE TRASH.
I then quit iTunes and then relaunched iTunes (not sure if this step is necessary, but I did it in case iTunes needed to save some preference or something). I again selected "Podcasts" in the lefthand column of iTunes. This brought up my now empty podcast window.
Then, I went into the iTunes folder in the finder, found the "Podcasts" folder, and dragged and dropped the folder into the podcast window of iTunes. Magic! It rebuilt all the podcasts. I then re-subscribed to all of them and refreshed the podcasts. All was well from then on.
    I wish you luck!

  • IPAD loses podcasts downloaded via iTunes Store

I've subscribed to several free podcasts via my MacBookPro and sync'd them with my iPAD. I tried to download some directly from my iPAD where it lets you click "get more" and browse the iTunes podcast library. I selected and download (or so I thought). I watched the downloads go through their progress and complete. I then could not find the podcasts on my iPAD. So, I don't know if they are there and lost chewing up storage on my iPAD, or if they somehow got deleted.
I opened a support link that got routed to someone in iTunes support in India who was the most terrible support person Apple has ever allowed to respond to a question. This person has probably never seen an iPad let alone understand what I was writing about...
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Can anyone tell me how to determine if there are lost or orphaned files on the iPAD?
    Thanks.

Nope. I even submitted a complaint to Apple iTunes and have had no response. The person (probably in India) did not know what a podcast was. She couldn't find a record of the download in my purchase history (i had told her it was free) and sent me a bunch of BS articles from the knowledge base.
I am very disappointed. I have used Apple support for various products both HW & SW on several occassions and nothing but the very best possible experience. This "apparent" outsourcing of iTunes support is extremely disappointing.
I'm hoping that someone from Apple monitors this forum and at least checks this out. This is not the Apple I know and greatly respect. This is really disappointing.

  • IPod reboots on downloaded podcast downloaded through iTunes

    Hi,
I d/l a BuzzOutLoud podcast, actually 2 of them, and my iPod reboots as soon I select these to play.
This since I uploaded to iTunes 7,.. Does any have a suggestion about this issue?
    30GB 5thG iPod

I'm so glad to read that I'm not the only one with this problem. Sorry but misery really does love company folks.
Anyway I tried altering the start delay on my troublesome podcasts ("As it happens," and "Democracy Now") with no effect. I was pretty concerned I had bad sectors on the drive but relieved that doesn't appear to be the case: because I got the same behavior after blanking the Ipod and reloading the podcasts. So where's the petition to get Apple to push a hot fix?

    hi gary
have you tried to sync your ipod ,when you click on the side where it shows your ipod?
Click on where it shows your ipod name for example garys ipod, when it opens up the summary page click the sync box, bottom right, and see if that helps.
In the summary page click on podcasts, click the box on sync podcast box (top),read before when the box opens and says are you sure you want sync podcasts.,theres a box underneath, which says automatically include ,make sure thats ticked.
    hope this may help madforit

  • ITunes podcast downloading problem.  "Authorization is required to access" error message.

I've been subsribing to a podcast through iTunes for years with no problems, but today I get the error message:
"There was a problem downloading (podcast name).  Authorization is required to access (url feed)"
Its a BBC podcast and I now get the same error message for all the other BBC podcasts that I subscribe to.  I also cant play or download any BBC podcasts from the iTunes Store.  All other podcasts by all other providers are fine.
Weirdly this problem seems to be limited to the Macbook Pro as the iMac on the same network can access the problem podcasts with no hassle.
A few web searches have turned up very little, any ideas in Apple Communities-land!

Hey Roger and thanks for your amazingly quick response.
I did a quick confirm: it doesn't seem to work on any Windows machines I can get my hands on, so it isn't something specific to me (whew!).  It definitely DOES work on any Mac I can get my hands on (which you also confirmed - thanks).
That link, the feedproxy.google.com one, works fine on Windows and Mac alike.  I very much imagine that someone else is using FeedBurner and while I'm not huge into podcasts, there are a lot of others who are.  This issue would've come up if it were something like that.  Either way: I can access that link (and thus the content) just fine on any machine I'm on.
So, what you're saying is to ditch FeedBurner entirely and just submit the raw feed to iTunes.  That sounds good (and, if I want more indepth statistics later, I'll cross that bridge then)...but I'm afraid I'm not sure how to do that.  I've already submitted the FeedBurner feed to iTunes and I'm not sure how I'd go about changing it.  Would I simply ask iTunes to delete the old feed and more or less resubmit?
Thanks for the help about the artwork.  The individual files may very well be missing the metadata, as when I asked the guy doing that if he had included the artwork, he indicated he was rather confused.  I'll test that out in a bit.  The feed artwork, however, I must admit ignorance about.  Where might I be able to change that?  I'm using WordPress and...PowerPress/BluBrry (or whatever it's referred to).
Thanks again for being so incredibly helpful with all this.  And so timely, too.

  • ITunes 11 Podcasts downloading problem

I subscribe severall podcasts. There's one of them, I don't know why, at the office downloads very slowly. To get it to download quickly, I am always pausing and resming the download.
In iTunes 11 when I pause when resuming the status bar comes a little bit back (eg. when pause there's 660 kb's downloaded, when resuming it goes to 500 Kb's)!
The other strange thing is that it dowloads more than the size of the podcast file!
When listening This, it is always coming back and forward.
Does anyone have the same problem?
Please try to pause and resume a podcast download an see what happens.
    Thanks,
    Jorge

Similar problem with iTunes 11.0.1.12 on win7. The crash seems to occur during the "file processing" part of downloading. I've tried removing the download file from the iTunes folder - it doesn't help.  Really frustrating problem. It doesn't generate any error message beyond itunes need to stop and searching for a solution (the "solution" to update iTunes is the PROBLEM - not a solution).
I've installed VLC to play the files but it isn't iTunes and it won't sync with my ipod so... Apple people - - can't you do some simple software??? Do you really have to head towards bankruptcy again????
Geesh the Google maps flap was bad enough!

  • HT5295 Does anyone else have an issue with the way iTunes fails to properly sync a podcast downloaded to an iPhone or iPad when connected to iTunes later?

When I download a podcast directly to my iPhone or iPad and listen to it I expect it to reflect that status when I come home. Instead the podcast downloads again in iTunes and then wonderful joy it changes the status to unplayed and I wind up having to figure out what I've listened to and what I haven't (I listen to a lot of 'em).

I'm not having issues.  What have you done to troubleshoot?

  • How can I get variable playback rates for podcasts/audiobooks downloaded from iTunes?

When I download a podcast from the iTunes Store, say Criminal or 99% Invisible, it shows up on my iPod Touch 4G just as a regular song as part of an album--it's not classified as a podcast episode and there's no way to speed it up. When downloading Serial episodes from the Serial site, however, it came with the 2x/.5x speed options, which is extremely useful for me. I tend to download the episodes directly to my computer and then add them to my iPod Touch via MediaMonkey, so I'm not sure what the difference is. With audiobooks, I have to manually change the genre to audiobook and then add to my iPod via iTunes to have the variable rates, so it's really quite a hassle. Is there any way to make this more efficient?

If you want to access the variable playback rates then the media must be transferred such that its media kind is either podcast or audiobook. I've just tried moving an mp3 audiobook file over to my iPad using MediaMonkey and it has ended up in the right section of the device's library so it must be possible. My understanding is that media kind is a private iTunes property, not stored in the tag, so perhaps MediaMonkey has used Genre to decide which part of the iPad library it should add the file to.

  • TS2743 My podcast won't download from iTunes for anyone, anymore

Hi guys! I am the owner/host of Dorktown Podcast. Sadly most listeners (me included) are not able to download our shows off of iTunes. It has been on there for seven years and has been fine previously and nothing has changed from the feed. You can stream it but it won't download. The podcast feed and files are fine as they work on all other formats (including Stitcher). There is plenty of space on peoples phones or computer for the download.I
When I report the problem directly on iTunes it keeps telling me I've 'timed out' after I send the report even though it's only taken me seconds to paste the report and send it.
Please please please I hope somebody can help as it's driving me crazy that people can no longer download off iTunes.
    Thank you! -Mike

I subscribed to the URL http://www.walkingoliver.com/pak/wopodcast_xmlfeed1.xml in iTunes and episode 8 started downloading successfully. So perhaps the problem is solved?

  • Can't download podcasts after installing iTunes 7

I have a 6 gig nano, was using iTunes 6 for a long time and built a huge list of podcasts that updated daily. After upgrading to iTunes 7 none of my podcasts will download. If you hit the refresh button they all just post that icon next to the title looking like they are updating but none of them are.
I've uninstalled/reinstalled a number of times. I'd tried each of the updates that have come out. After I do a fresh install it updates the podcasts once, but if I hit refresh again it stops all of them and won't continue updating them.
    Any ideas?
    thanks.
      Windows XP Pro

I have had a problem with iTUNES 7 downloading podcasts as well. If I select more than a couple at a time to download, windows crashes and reboots. Upon rebooting, when I try to re-download the same podcasts, I get the exclamation point icon next to the podcast indicating a network connection issue. What I have to do to resolve it is go to My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Downloads/Podcasts then delete the folder that is named after the podcast. Restart iTunes and then the download works again. I think the guilty file is actually in that folder named (xxx).plist. I still don't understand why iTunes crashes like this though.

  • Itunes podcast download (-39) error

Persistent fault with a (-39) error relating to broken/corrupted downloads. Itunes doesn't seem to cope too well with this and the tmp download file that's created is sometimes unrecoverable
    In the following path...
    C:\users\username\music\itunes library\itunes media\Downloads\Podcasts
Delete the file/folder concerned, go back to itunes and update podcast and it'll start again with a fresh download.

    Mmm interesting.
Googling the error returns some people having problems syncing their photos, pointing to an iTunes client problem, which would make sense since you can subscribe to the podcast.
I still can't subscribe to it but I am hopefully the only one.
    Thanks for your help.
