IDisk on the iPad

Anyone know how iDisk is implemented on the iPad?
I was hoping I could have Pages and Numbers docs saved on my iDisk that I could open up, edit and save on my iPad which would then sync back via MobileMe to my other macs.
Is this possible or can I only just view iDisk docs like on the iPhone?

You may want to try DropBox. It works like iDisk and free for up to 2GB of storage (and iPad friendly) and, most importantly you can open iWork documents directly from it.
Drawback (like iDisk), you need to have access to the Internet to access the files.
As I leave in a part of the world where the latter is not always the case, I tried Documents To Go. It's not bad and you can open, create, edit all MS Office files, sync entire folders to your iPad (hence the files are resident) and attach any of these files to emails within iPad. Once you Sync both iPad and your computer, the changes are reflected in both.
Hope this helps...

  • Pages & Keynote. Opening files from iDisk on your iPad

I'm interested in buying both Keynote and Pages but want to know if I can access (and work on) files on my iDisk from my iPad.
On my desktop I can go into my iDisk and double click on any Word or Powerpoint file (I have Microsoft Office on my desktop) and it will open on my desktop.
Does anyone know if had Keynote and Pages installed on my iPad if it would do the same?

iPad apps (iwork at least) access a common file sharing folder that can be seen through iTunes. On the iPad, you can have the app download from that shared folder into its local space.
You then have to export from the program back into the shared folder for iTunes to see it again.

  • Getting photos from my iDisk to my iPad (Photos)

I have loaded a batch of photos from my camera up to my iDisk. How can I get them down onto my iPad, into the Photos app?
I have wifi - I do not have my notebook (or iTunes) with me. I have the iDisk app on my iPad and it will let me open and view the photo files ... but not copy them onto the iPad.
This doesn't seem like it should be difficult, but I can't figure it out.

Have you tried pressing on the photo with your finger to see if a save photo dialog box opens? I do not have the iDisk app, but the iPad usually will allow saving a photo it is displaying.

  • Idisk documents and ipad

So... I have a mobileme account which I use as a central storage and access place for many documents... I routinely access these on my mac, iphone and now ipad.
I have two functionality questions I'm hoping there are solutions to:
    1. Is there a away to access and use my idisk documents within pages on the ipad (i know i can access my idisk on my ipad but can not get pages to open the document up)
    2. Is there a way to save pages to my idisk so that I can access them remotely from wherever i am? I know I can use the iwork public beta, but that seems like i am using two different things for the same reasons (mobile me/iwork.com)

I was pointed to the iDisk app in another thread, but it is just a Baisc sharing aid. What I would really like to be able to do is file share between my iDisk and iWork.com accounts directly. It's a shame the Apple cloud computing experience isn't a more integrated one.
I agree with you about the iPad iWork apps. They are very rough if you need to use advanced MS Office features, for example endnoting. It is though alright for making a rough draft of something on the fly, but you'd still need to put advanced features in using a compatible computer and MS office if doing things like lecture notes.
Important to balance with the criticsm that the product has just been released, but I think Apple could substantial ly improve both their cloud computing and support or preserve advanced Office features in apps like Pages better

  • TS1398 problems to access Idisk using my Ipad

I have access to a Wi-fi internet, but my Ipad can't access the Idisk, even sync with my MacBook. I'm trying to sync the Ipad and Mac using the  app "papars" without success also.
What is happening? What can I do?

I was hoping some tech wiz would have found an answer for you. The app below vibrates and flashes. Is that the kind of thing you're looking for? I'm not sure, because I am thinking you want your Mom's phone to somehow connect with ipad.
If you read the link I previously posted, please read the comments also. Maybe a suggestion in one of those would help.

One of the dangers of hearing loss is the inability to hear audible alerts or warnings. Tap Tap is a brilliant app that allows those with hearing loss to react to sounds. When it detects noise, the app will vibrate and flash to alert the user. If the door knocks, or someone is speaking or shouting, the user will know. If the smoke alarm goes off, Tap Tap will vibrate and flash. The sensitivity can be adjusted and the app can run in the background if desired, though this may use more battery power. This is a must-have app for anyone with significant hearing loss.

  • How do I get messages to go back to an AIM account? It's only seeing the iPad's Facetime email address and not seeing the old AIM account name that is on my desktop. I am using my iMac using iChat to talk to a newer iMac that doesn't have iChat.

How do I get messages to go back to an AIM account? It's only seeing the iPad's Facetime email address and not seeing the old AIM account name that is on my desktop. I am using my iMac using iChat to talk to a newer iMac that doesn't have iChat. We had this working using Messages and Facetime (on the new machine) talking to my existing iChat account. One day last week, when Facetime rang, my kids answered on the iPad. Dang! Now it's all fouled up! The new iMac won't see my AIM account name and shows that I'm offline, because the iPad is off. We were able to call using "most recent call" in Facetime, but now I can't go and control that new iMac remotely to help with some email concerns the user is having. I'm trying to not personalize this too much, but it's grandkids talking to Grandma and Mom and Dad trying to solve new machine hiccups. Normally, I could just go in via iChat and control the other machine and troubleshoot, but I can't do it with Facetime only. My buddy list doesn't see  the other computer even though we are connected on Facetime right now. My name is not highlighted for the other computer. What could have gone so wrong?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • I have one apple ID for both my Iphone 4S and Ipad. My Ipad was stolen from me and when I checked the iCloud, it can only locate the Iphone 4S. How can I locate the Ipad device?

I have one apple ID for both my Iphone 4S and Ipad. My Ipad was stolen from me and when I checked the iCloud, it can only locate the Iphone 4S. How can I locate the Ipad device?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.

  • Can there be a hardware issue on the iPad that causes you to unable to join wifi networks or only if you are within 5 feet of routers?

I used to be able to connect my iPad to my house wifi network walking all over my house then one day it stopped.  When i tried to connect to my network I would get an message saying "Unable to Join network".  I found that if i was within 5 feet of my router it would connect and work just fine.  At the same time I tried it at multiple other networks that I have before (girlfriends and other friends houses) and could not connect with same issue.  Only place I can connect is my work wifi.
Can connect to wifi with my iPhone with no issues
I have reset my network connections

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
Try This - Renew IP Address:
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • I have Pages for the iPad and desktop, how can I save it besides the iCloud on my computer and not the iPad?

I have purchased Pages for my desktop iMac and Macbook Air.  I also have it on my iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.  They are all synced through the icloud, but the space is now starting to fill up.  (I am the guy asking trivia questions and it fills up with A LOT of questions).  BUT, after each week, I can get rid of 3 documents (16 questions per document).  So, I have roughly 80 games worth of trivia and half of which I would like to save on my computer.  I can pull it up on my computer and it shows that I have that from the icloud, but not on the desktop.  I have lots of space on my desktop to save these, but the iPad is not as large for space.
How can I transfer roughly 40 documents (from pages) from the icloud to the desktop, (for permanent storage)?  do I have to do each one individually, or is there a select documents you want to move?  Then I can delete from ipad as it seems to take up space on both the ipad and the icloud.
    Thank you in advance.

Just ignore that post above. I tried to edit it but was too late. Deleting a document from iPad does delete it from iCloud.
Ignore the line 'There is no data limit on iCloud.com so you could keep all your documents on there' because of course then they will sync to your devices and that's not what you want.
    Sorry, for the confusion.
    Removing documents from iCloud:
    iCloud: Remove documents from iCloud
You can also move documents to your computer by opening Pages, select iCloud and all the documents you want to move, and drag them onto your desktop (or folder).

  • My wife and I share the iPad. Can we set up separate accounts to log in (like on our Mac)?

My wife and I share the iPad. Can we set up separate accounts to log in (like on our Mac)?

Good question, but I'm 99.9% certain the answer is "no".  Here are some considerations:
Think of the heritage of iOS.  It really started with iPhones and maybe iPods.  These devices cost a whole lot less than a Mac.  They are generally not thought of as shared (with exceptions, of course, as is true for you).
Think of the backup process.  i-devices typically sync with one iTunes on one computer.  How would an i-device with multiple users enstantiate this?
Anyway, all this is to say I'm convinced you cannot do what you're inquiring about.

  • Is there a way of making the Edge Commons parallax effect work smoothly with DPS on the iPad?

I want to create a feature for an iPad magazine utilising the parallax effect shown here...
Parallax Scrolling Made Easy (Adobe Edge Animate Online Week, Episode 9) - YouTube
I am using Digital Publishing Suite to publish to an iPad.  I ran a test and the effect partially works, but not smoothly.
As you scroll down the animation does not play.  Once you finish scrolling the animation then jumps to whichever point has been reached on the timeline, rather than animating as you scroll down the page.
Is there a way to get the same animation effect through DPS that you see in the browser?  Or is it not compatible?
    Thanks!

    As lllaass said, you can't.
If you want Apple to add backgrounds to the iPad version, leave them feedback: http://apple.com/feedback/ipad.html.

  • Is there a way of connecting the ipad to the smart board in the classroom, so that the smartboard is the control, and the ipad is displaying what is on the smartboard? This is to help a visually impaired child see what is on the smartboard.,

Is there a way of connecting the ipad to the smart board in the classroom, so that the smartboard is the control, and the ipad is displaying what is on the smartboard? This is to help a visually impaired child see what is on the smartboard.

    Absolutely!
Install Splashtop2 on the PC and enable it to be controlled or ran from iPad or Reflection to simply allow iPad to serve as PC unwired monitor. With Splashtop and an Apple TV connected, you use the smartboard as usual, yet the PC and iPad can see the same content. The impaired child can even interact with the Smart Board via the iPad as if he were writing directly on the big screen. Erasing functions can be done by touching the Smart Board manual controls. Several variables are in play that cause this lack of functionality:
Apple won't permit PC software that infringes its proprietary apps.
Smart Board companies refuse to develop iPad apps because they feel threatened and are being replaced by iPads
School districts think Apple TV is meant for copyright infringement and could expose them to safe harbor lawsuits
Network administrators make it impossible to login Apple TVs because they don't want the streaming occurring
Classrooms are not able to keep up with the technology of using the iPad
Clicker companies refuse to play with iPad because they see it as a potential threat to their core business clients
Apple is not working as hard as it could to exploit its capabilities in education, thus losing money in iPad sales
The bottom line is that we educators and technology developers are hurting our childern with petty conflicts.

  • Bug? My events on the iPad iCal app aren't shown in the year view if they are more than two years in the future.

My events on the iPad iCal app aren't shown in the year view if they are more than two years in the future even though I can see them on the month, week and day view. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I've tried it all. I called the apple support and they checked on their iPads. They all did the same and they couldn't help me. They suggested trying this way. I'd like to be able to plan a few years ahead and the year view would make thing so easy!
    Is this a bug?

Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then restart the app and see if it works normally.
Then reboot your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Why does iCal and Calendar on the iPad do not search before year 2000?

I have used for many years with great pleasure the agenda of the Psion MX palmtop computer with GUI and touch screen, dating from 1998. All applications (Office apps, WAP internet plus agenda) on this machine are faultless and this Symbian 50 computer never crashes, uses only two AA cells a month and for me it is almost the perfect mobile companion. But Psion has closed down many years ago and the flexible cable between the moving screen and he mainboard breaks down after 8 years of daily service. Spare parts are hard to get by nowadays and so I decided to switch over to the iPad. My agenda covers data from 1980 on and for me it is a the book of my personal and working life after 1980. So I exported the data from the Psion to my MacBook Pro and synchonized these with my iPad 3. I was a bit shocked to discover that iCal on the mac can *not* "Go To" dates before the year 2000. You have to click by hand every month to reach e.g. 1980 (there is no year tab). Searching on data in history works fine on the mac (backward at least until 1980) But on the iPad somtimes the data in these ancient times is not shown at all, you have first to select your calendars 'off' and 'on' again. Searching for old dat doesn't work either, so again you can only visit those data by tapping by hand, hapily here for previous years. It seems that Apple is not very interested in history, where both the iPad and the Mac don't support looking back more then 12 years. Having programmed myself some financial applications in the 1980th I assume these are vey small missing points in the two applications. Didn't anyone at Apple use these calendars for more than any weeks or did they never tested those for serious use? The calendars both function from 1900 on, so even Einstein could have used them som time of his life. Please do some fixing of these apps (it is *really* a small job) and make these applications more coherent to the excellent hardware of Apple
