IDVD doesn't work with Leopard

Hi, I recently installed Leopard and have had no problems with it until I tried to use iDVD today and found that the themes will not load. Does an upgrade to iLife 08 solve this problem?
I previously had no problems using iDVD. Below are the specs from my computer.
Hardware Overview:
Model Name: iBook G4
Model Identifier: PowerBook6,7
Processor Name: PowerPC G4 (1.5)
Processor Speed: 1.42 GHz
Number Of CPUs: 1
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 142 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.9.3f0
Serial Number: 4H543GPTSE9
Sudden Motion Sensor:
State: Enabled
Version: 1.0

Hi
Yes iDVD 5 doesn't work with Leopard.
Installing iLife08 will install iDVD 08 which works BUT NOW iMovie'08 will not work
though it needs a G5 1.9GHz minimum. So You need to download iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4)
which You are entitled to as an iLife08 owner.
Yours Bengt W

  • Publish for Approval - the new plug-in - doesn't work with Leopard

This aperture plug-in arrived for download just a few days before Leopard arrived. It worked great with Tiger. It doesn't work at all with Leopard. It appears that Leopard comes with a new version of Apache Server and it doesn't work with the Publish for Approval plugin. Does anyone know if and when an update will be released?

I'm not seeing the Java plugin in the plugins list in the System Details list.
Did you install the 32 bit Java version?
Do you see the Java plugin in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins"?

  • Oracle sync for Macintosh doesn't work with Leopard.

I have tried to install the oracle sync client for Mac OS (v 9.x) and it will just not install on any Leopard OS Macs. The console message repeats the error:
    5/27/08 11:07:12 AM [0x0-0x12012].Oracle Calendar Sync installer.1[121] 2008-05-27 11:07:12.373 install[126:190b] CFPropertyListCreateFromXMLData(): Old-style plist parser: missing semicolon in dictionary.

The installer does work with Tiger. I have found that it complains about some Java errors when its unpacking itself but I have the most recent version of Java available for this OS.
    Any thoughts?

I was able to get the sync to work when I started on a machine running Tiger (OS 10.4) and then upgraded to Leopard, but NOT on any machines that start at Leopard.
I've just about abandoned Oracle Calendar given their (lack of) product support, and likewise for PalmOS devices.
    Bring on iPhone.

  • Cmd-k doesn't work with Leopard to access Win XP

With 10.5.4 on an iBook I was able to get to Win XP shared files just fine. With 10.5.6 on a new Macbook I've been unable to get this to work despite having fully researched the situation with Google and having tried all the suggestions that apparently didn't work for anyone else with the problem either.
I'm using SMB account sharing (well, I'm trying anyway.) The account names and passwords are common between the Mac and the PC. Everything has the right permissions but all I can get with cmd-k (using either machine name or IP) is "Connection failed. You do not have permission to access this server."
The XP machine is listed under SHARED in the finder side bar but if I click on it says "Connection Failed" in finder. If I select "Connect As" it doesn't even ask me who "As" ought to be but just puts up the "Connection failed..." dialog box.
From this it seems that Leopard can see my XP machine but not get to anything on it that I've made shared.
The strange thing and what makes me sure this is a Leopard bug is that I have removed the XP machine from the Keychain and I still don't get any dialog asking for account and password. It just barfs up the "Connection failed..." dialog.
Can anyone tell me what to do for this? If there is a bug in 10.5.6 which makes sharing XP resources impossible how about just admitting it so I can put this machine in the closet until Leopard is fixed and quit throwing good time after bad trying to get it to work.
    Thanks,
    Bob

Problem found and fixed. I've been trying to chase it down pretty much full time for the three weeks since "Security" Update 2009-1 completely hosed Windows file sharing (SMB.) I wonder if the time is billable to Apple.
The SMB file system extension was given the wrong permissions by that "Security" update and won't load as a result. Incredible. Actually it sorta makes me wonder if they didn't intentionally close a security hole by disabling SMB file sharing cause they couldn't see how to really fix the problem. I digress.
Log in as an administrator and enable root: In /Applications/Utilities run "Directory Utility". Open the lock on the bottom left. From the Edit list, select "Enable Root User". You will be asked to create a password for becoming root (superuser.) Do NOT forget this password. I use the same one as my main administrative account. Leave the utility open.
    From Utilities run "Terminal".
Enter "su" and you will be asked for the above password that will give you root (superuser) superpowers.
Enter "cd /System/Library/Extensions" to get to the directory containing the SMB file system extension.
To fix permissions enter "chmod -R g-w smbfs.kext".
To start the extension enter "kextload smbfs.kext".
    Close Terminal.
For safety return to the open Directory Utility window (you may have to unlock it again) and from Edit select "Disable Root User". Exit the utility.
You should now be able to connect to any Windows shares you previously established and the fix persists across shutdowns.

  • HP PSC 2355xi Scanning doesn't work with Leopard

Please help! I have an iMac that I've upgraded to Leopard and an HP PSC 2355xi printer. It will print fine but I cannot use the All in One software from Hp and therfore, I cannot scan documents or use it's scanning functionality. I've downloaded the latest All in One software and reloaded it, to no avail. Very Frustrating! Please help with ideas or thoughts.

I've had the same problem with an all-in-one I purchased in Dec. I can't figure it out either. The model I purchased is not listed on the HP web-site. Yes, the web-site is not exactly helpful. I tried the chat support and as soon as the person found out that I was a Mac user, that became the end of the help session. I spent the next hour on the phone with support. I finally hung up and went to other forums to figure it out.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled about 3 times. I even went back to OSX 10.5. I'm assuming HP Scan Pro is the software to use. I get no communication between the all-in-one and my laptop when it comes to scanning. I'm not finding HP to be Mac friendly.

  • IDVD doesn't work with DVCpro HD?

    Hi,
I've been trying to import a DVCpro HD quicktime movie exported from Final Cut Pro 5 onto iDVD 7 but all I get is a white screen when I preview it. I've also burned a dvd and get a green screen when the movie is played. I would like to know if iDVD supports the DVCpro format or is it simply a software version compatibility problem. One more thing - I also get a white screen when viewing the dvcpro file in quicktime. To solve that problem I've checked the 'Open using Rosetta' option in the quicktime application info. Thanks

usage of DVDSP doesn't improve compatibilty.. standards is standards..
    what you could do...:
use different brand of media, Verbatim is my suggestions..
and, tell iDVD to create an 'image' first, than use DiskUtility or Toast to create a videoDVD form that image, burn speed 2 - 4x ...
PS: NEVER trust what a client tells you..
when your DVDstandalone plays the disk, the problem sits in front of a PC, not a Mac..

  • Airport Express Doesn't Work With Leopard?

I upgraded to Leopard, and am trying to install my new Airport Express. I get an error message saying that Airport Express doesn't support the current OS. Anyone else encountering that?

You shouldn't need to install software unless you buy a base station released -after- the OS you're using was released. Leopard already contains a newer version of software for configuring the Express, AFAIK.

  • Many programs I used to use in Tiger doesn't work in Leopard

Here are the ones I've noticed have not been working or have errors:
    iMovie
    iChat
    Yahoo Messenger
    Adium
    VisualHub
There are probably like 10 more but I haven't seen it yet. Why are so many programs are acting like this. I was thinking it was becasuse it wasn't ugpraded enough but I did install the newer version and it doesn't work.

Well, haven't we had to deal with a slew of updates every two years?
And at least Vista x64 is probably more secure, supports EFI (UEFI 2.).
The same people that would need a Mac Pro (dual cpu, 8GB RAM, etc) would be looking at 64-bit.
Did not Apple tout the G5 from IBM as finally being a 64-bit system? But yes, even Adobe CS3 is still 32-bit and limited to 3.5GB of user space, which there are work arounds for.
One person I tried to help was using Maya but his version doesn't work with Leopard, and blames Apple and 10.5 it seems, rather than realize he needs to consider an 8-core system rather than 4-core, more memory, make better use of disk and RAID, and of course... upgrade software or... WAIT FOR MAYA AND 10.5.x to catch up to each other!
People assume you have to wait for SP1 for Windows, but think they should jump rigtht in, when we all have seen that X.3 is usually the first "sweet spot" in any release.

  • "older" iPhoto version can't work with Leopard 10.5.3

Leopard newby, just upgraded from Tiger. I see that my previous iPhoto version doesn't work with Leopard. Is this Apple's way to make me pay $79 for iLife, or is there a free iPhoto version available that works with Leopard?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Any version of iPhoto after v2 works with 10.5. That's v4,v5, v6, v7. All of them.
You can purchase the latest version from Apple, you can search amazon or ebay for an earlier version.
The only way to get a free version of iPhoto is to get a new Mac. The iLife suite comes free with everyone.
I don't think it's "Apple's way to make me pay $79 for iLife", but it might illustrate the importance of checking these things before you upgrade.
And, of course, you don't have to use iPhoto. There are alternatives: search on MacUpdate

What version of word do you have? The TS3938 sounds like it's a PowerPC app- written for an old architecture that is no longer supported in Lion. If this is the case, your files are fine- you just need a newer version of word that will run in Lion in order to open them. The newest version (2011) should be readily available anywhere, and has worked fine for me ever since I switched to Lion on release day....

  • Quicklook doesn't work with .avi files

Hello, i've got a little problem right here on my mac. The thing is that I used to have Snow Leopard as a OS and quicklook used to work great, it opened all the extensions I used to work with. The thing change when I format my HDD and installed a clean copy of Lion OS. Now quicklook works fine as it used to but not any more with .avi files. I remember that this feature was working great on my previous OS, and it's really important for me to find a solution because quicklook is an absolutely amazing feature of our Macs.
I've tryed to download plugins, restoring permissions or even trying it with a guest user, but no success.
Please help me. If you need more info about specs or something i'll be glad to give them to you.
    Thank you!!!

Also doesn't work with Grapher (.gcx) documents (an Apple format).

  • IPhone 5 doesn't work with Mac OS 10.5.8 - do I need to ugrade to 10.6 and then upgrade to Mountain Lion or can I just upgrade to Mtn Lion right away?

iPhone 5 doesn't work with Mac OS 10.5.8 - do I need to ugrade to 10.6 and then upgrade to Mountain Lion or can I just upgrade to Mtn Lion right away?

At least to 10.6.8. You must do this to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?

  • Will Garageband 2 work with Leopard?

Will Garageband 2 work with Leopard?
    Thanks!

I have been using the a6|2m, but one of the last updates (I can't tell exactly which) have now made the interface unusable: After a few bars of recording, I get distortion and delay of 1/2 sec. Also, the Audio-Midi-Setup and Logic don't work together anymore, e.g. if I change in Audio-Midi-Setup to 2 recording channels, Logic still offers six (or if I change to 96kHz, Logic doesn't notice the change, which produces quite strange output).
Can anyone using the a6|2m confirm this problem?
I've tested the interface with an older system (10.4.9) and a PC, on both systems it worked perfectly, so hardware faults can be excluded.

  • Is it true MS Office doesn't work with Lion?

I just purchased OSX Lion and while it was downloading I began to read the reviews.  I saw multiple comments that MS Office doesn't work with Lion.  I forced a shutdown on my MacBook Pro because I couldn't see any other way to stop the LIon download.  Now with it back on, the download is paused.  I don't want to resume it until I find out if it's true about office.  Any help?

Len , MS2008 does require Rosetta. Ms2011 does not.
W7ox, I tried 2 different licenses. I have 12 licenses here on site. I resorted to reading it straight off the box and still no joy. Very strange!
Incidently. I can not access the Snow leopard Server either via the normal 'Go' and 'connect to Server'.
Have tried afp and SMB. no joy.
I am wondering if the ethernet Dinlge adpater to the Rj45 connector has any hardware issues?? will keep expeirmenting and any feedback appreciated, as I am NOT going ahead with any Lion updates on 12 macs until I know more about its bugs! ciao

  • Logic Pro 8 and Apogee Duet work with Leopard?

    Hello There,
I'm new to the boards. This is my first post. So, please forgive me if this has already been discussed.
I have been browsing the boards for about an hour and want to confirm some things I've read. I'm looking to buy a MacBook Pro and Logic Pro 8. Am I correct in reading that Logic Pro 8 doesn't work quite right with Leopard? If so, or "sort of," what other kinds of limitations and things should I be aware of?
Lastly, does Apogee Duet work with Leopard?
    Thanks in advance!

Zee, L8 works fine with Leopard. However, different users encounter different bugs/frustration points with the app. I record audio (guitars, bass, etc) and a few software intsruments (drums, keys), usually about 12-20 tracks, in the gypsy jazz/blues/metal idiom, and I'm incredibly happy with the results I've gotten. The problems I've had have more to do with my own ignorance, really, and just stupid oversights -- to be expected from an experienced musician who's nonetheless new to the DAW world -- than any inherent problem with Logic.
But my needs are fairly simple and straightforward, I think; at this point in time I doubt I am using more than say 25% of Logic's advertised capabilities. I'm not using automation, for example, or the Time Machines in the factory; or really complex MIDI work. Were my needs more complex, I might have a different reaction.
Logic is in 8.0.1 release, and I think all will agree there's some things to be polished. But as I said, that probably depends on the user/workflow.
I use an Apogee Duet with L8/Leopard and like it a great deal; I also use Native Instruments' Rig Kontrol 3, which functions brilliantly as an effect pedal/controller with Guitar Rig 3.
