If i buy a macbook pro 2 months before the new operating system comes is released, can i get it for free?
Generally once Apple gives the official release date, then Macs have become available for up to date pricing. As long as just the season has been stated, there is no guarantee that Macs purchased during the season in question will get up to date pricing. So watch http://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/ or http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/ the day that the release date is announced. Past performance is no guarantee of future returns. Thankfully since 10.7's release Apple's full fledged releases have only been $20 USD, and updates are free to the full fledged release. I.e. 10.7.1 to 10.7.5 are updates to 10.7.
10.8.1 to 10.8.4 are updates to 10.8. It was only with 10.6 and earlier the distribution for each full release was at least $99 and up to date were around $20 going back to 10.2. 10.6 is though available on the Apple Store for only $20.

Bought a MacBook Pro Just Before the New Ones Came Out?
I'm just going to put this out there since every time Apple refreshes a product, we get the same questions:
+*1) I just bought my MacBook Pro a week ago. Can I exchange it for a new 2011 one?*+
In the U.S., Apple has a 14 day return policy. You may return your product at any point during that 14 day period. Apple's official policy is to charge a 10% restocking fee. However, they have been known to waive the fee... especially after a product refresh. There is no guarantee that they will do this however.
+*2) I'm so mad!! I just bought my machine in January and it's already obsolete! Now I feel like I have been cheated by Apple.*+
This comment comes up every time there is a product refresh. It can be frustrating when an updated version of something you spent a considerable sum of cash on is released shortly after your purchase. Just remember, at the time you made the purchase, you decided that the product you bought offered what you wanted at a price you were willing to pay. You haven't been cheated out of anything. You received exactly what you expected at the price you agreed to. Your machine does not become obsolete just because a newer model comes out. If the machine you purchased met your needs when you bought it, it will continue to meet your needs regardless of whether or not an updated version was released. If you are within the return period per #1 above, you may return your machine and purchase a new model.
+*3. It's not fair that Apple doesn't tell us that they are updating their machines. I would have waited had I known updated machines were coming out. I asked the guy at the store if there were any updates on the way and he said he didn't know.*+
Very few manufacturers make announcements about updates to their products. For computers, new processors, video components, chipsets, etc. are released at a blinding pace. It is expected that computer manufacturers will update their products regularly. If they don't, they simply won't be competitive. It tends to be more obvious when it comes to Apple products as there are only a few basic models (vs. the tens to hundreds offered by companies like HP, Asus, Toshiba, etc). Frankly, from a business standpoint, it also doesn't make sense to pre-announce updates as they will cripple sales of existing stock. Generally, before a product refresh, there are lots of rumors. A little research ahead of time will usually make it clear if an update is at least expected. Neither Apple store employees nor employees at other Apple Authorized Resellers have any advance knowledge of new releases. They may know about the same rumors that you'll find online, but they have no more concrete information than anyone else until an official announcement.Joey, you can also always quote my user tip:

Now, when I attempt to start Windows partition, as soon as I touch the keyboard or mouse the screen goes black and I can't go any further. I have tried to re-load the bootcamp drivers and try again. It does the same thing. Any help would be great.

I have a MacBook Pro and it is Software is Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53). Is this the new operating system or I have to buy the new one? The only thing missing is the Messages.
And yes, you need LOTS of Internet to get the latest cat. The installer file is just 4.5GB in size, so on most internet connections it will take awhile to download. Once that happens, you will have a choice to install it on top of your existing Lion partition, or onto a different one, that can even be a totally blank one.
Since you probably don't want to redo the wait, be sure to quit the installer as soon as it finishes downloading and starts up automatically. Then save the installer (called "Install OS X Mountain Lion", and found in your Applications folder) onto another disk before going thru with the installation. When it concludes, it will erase itself. -
if i buy a macbook pro but is preinstalled with lion do i have to pay a further amount for mountain lion?
Yes, when mountain lion first came out there was a peroid where if you had bought a Mac computer in the last few months then you could get it for free. But becuase it's been out for a year i think now, thats not the case

If i buy a Macbook Pro online in a country with a special keyboard. Will i get the Mac with my country keyboard?
I want to buy it on sale this friday, so a quick answer will make me happy :)You should - if you're in the UAE, for instance, you should get an Arabic keyboard (you may have to specify when you configure your machine - I don't know, I live in the US).

I just got the new macbook pro about 2 weeks ago, it has lion. When the new mountain lion comes this summer, can i just update it on my macbook pro since it isn't so old? And if i can update it, do i have to pay, or is it a free update?
I'm in the same position, the store said they didn't know of any new release, so i bought my macbook pro to find out about mountain lion. I really hope that i'm not going to pay for the upgrade. New to apple, also last month bought my Ipad 3, really thought that Airplay would have been on my book pro, nope, waste of time.........need that update to use it. Back i the box then, get the windows 7 ultimate pro back out until then.

Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
There may be third-party software that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize entry into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause these errors. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance or follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

I recorded VCR tape onto DVD-R but will not play on my MacBook Pro. I have already recorded multiple DVDs. How can I get it to play on my Mac?
"I recorded VCR tape onto DVD-R"
How? Using what equipment/software?
"The DVD plays on the device on which it was recorded."
Just a guess: You're using a VCR-DVD combo recorder. DVDs produced in this way will play on the device that made them, but won't play on anything else until they're "finalized." In fact, Macs will recognize unfinalized DVDs as blank discs until the discs are finalized. Check the manual that came with the recording device for instructions. -
I am not getting any sound input on my microphone. There is no microphone input on my new macbook pro, so I am using my old one. Is this a problem with the new operating system? Did they simply remove any microphone software?
Check System Preferences > Sound > Output
Make sure the correct device is selected. -

I have a MacBook Air and recently downloaded the new operating system, 10.10 OSX Yosemite. Since that time, I am no longer able to access my personal ITunes library to add music to IPhoto slideshows. I put I tunes library on my desktop, as suggested. How do I drag it to the I Photo slideshow?
That crash appears to be casued by the Facebook plug-in.
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts or Users & Groups on 10.7 and 10.8), make a new Library in that account, import some shots and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account. -
