If I buy the Mac pro and iMac combine it together would it be faster?

If I buy the Mac pro and iMac combine it together would it be faster or I just buy the mac pro and Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch)?

If you buy a Mac Pro 2013, use the iMac for casual stuff and use the Mac Pro for media creation work.
Maxed out iMac with 4-core 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD PCIe is nice.
Mac Pro with 6-core 64GB dual graphics for $1000 more might run rings around it.
Why not look them both up on Geekbench.
Some people really need and like having two systems, maybe laptop (Air) and a more powerful system.

Most of the time working with heavy 3D and Videos.
I wanted to buy other 4GB Ram, and a Quadro 4000 (but its for Mac pro).
My idea was (or still is) to buy a Mac Pro and expand my iMac capacity (processors, Ram, etc, but no one has answered me if i can do that), or else I was thinking if I can buy the Mac Pro and transfer my iMac stuff to it, then use the iMac monitor as a display of the Mac pro just while the iMac sells and then just buy a monitor (but again, no one has answered me if I can do that too)
    Please solve my questions

  • Anybody sell the Mac Pro and not charge tax?

Anybody sell the Mac Pro and not charge tax?

I concur. Expercom is probably THE best place to buy a Mac - other than directly from Apple - of course.
I ordered my new 8 Core Mac Pro on Thursday with just standard shipping. It is scheduled to arrive some time today. I got it with 4GB's of Ram for $2770, no tax and only 1 cent shipping.
    Good Luck on your purchase!

No not bothered about sycing apps etc it is all about calendars and maybe notes. IN terms of how its done I just want it the easiest way and preferably so that if an entry is made on one calendar then it populates the other.
Thgius is beacuse I have my work diary on outlok, which I then link with my ical. I want to make sure that information is then shared with her.

  • Please take a look here: a lot of picture's from the Mac Pro and Upgrades.

Just like any other Mac Pro owner, i'am really happy with it!
Please take a look at my site: http://mac.powerbras.nl
This is the first site i have ever made (on a Mac) so i hope you will like it!
Before i had my Mac Pro i would really like too see a little more from the inside. But there where just a few site's with some small pictures. Now i made this site with some high resolution pictures so everyone can see the inside off the Mac Pro and how perfect it is!
Also you can find the Xbench results from my configuration and all the Apple System Profiler specifications
Please take a look, you will like it. Especially when you have no Mac Pro!

    Anne,
    Great job on the site.
There are a number of third party templates available for iWeb that, with some creativity, can yield a site that looks nothing like the template-based norm. An example of one such site, "The Camera Obscura", a site created in iWeb and hosted on .Mac, demonstrates very well the limitless capabilities of iWeb. Some post-publishing html editing has been done on Obscura, but is easily accomplished with the right tools.
Additional iWeb templates and other tools that support this great application can be found in The iWeb Tool Chest.
Keep up the great work on your site!

I know some good solutions to a lot of problems with Mac Pros. And other readers know a whole lot more solutions.
I do not know of any problem that can be solved by replacing these boards in a nearly-new Mac Pro. The processor board is sold as a bare board, with no processors or heatsinks. It takes an hour of trained technician time just to install the processors and heat sinks, and you MUST get the correct parts or it will not work. If your technique is not correct, the processor(s) will self destruct when you power them up.
The mainboard does not include the SATA connectors, which are actually on a wiring harness that is attached from behind.

  • Which video card to buy for Mac Pro and AE CS3

I am about to purchase a new Mac Pro and am curious which video card to buy - particularly when it comes to rendering speed.
Apple offers the ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT with 256MB of GDDR3 as a standard option, with the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT with 512MB of GDDR3 as a $150 BTO option.
I primarily use AE CS3 using adaptive resolution in lieu of Open GL. The projects are very 3d intensive. My initial thought is that the NVIDIA card has more VRAM and would be a better pick - but would my $$$ be better off toward more RAM? Does using CS4 make a difference?
Any thoughts would be appreciated. And yes, I have searched the forums but have not found anything definitive.

Personally, I'd buy more RAM. The standard display card supplied with the Mac Pro will have perfectly good specs for AE and Prem Pro.
Yes, CS4 should render faster than CS3.

  • New Mac Pro and iMac as Display – Several Crashes

    Hello,
I am using a new Mac Pro (late 2013, 3.5 6C) and are really happy with it. But I have one problem …
Currently I am using an iMac 27" as a display via Apple Thunderbolt cable (original cable from Apple).
But when I switch my displays via cmd+f2, my mac pro sometimes crashes. So I can switch back to my iMac always, without issues. But sometimes, when I want to switch back to my running Mac Pro (no screensaver etc.), I cannot switch back and the Mac Pro simply reboots.
Any ideas what to do? I've sent a bug report to Apple already …

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • Just got the mac pro and mouse will not connect.

I've googled the heck out of it and can't find anything wrong.  At this point I don't know what else to say but, the mouse isn't working. Checked batteries, went through ALL processes, and nothing seems to work.  All I get it the green status light blinking or it will say it's connected for 30 secs but doesn't do anything. If anyone else has any other help or info I would appreciate it.

How far is you mouse from the back of your mac pro and is there anything between those two points?  Beyond about 3 to 4 feet the MM on a mac pro for many people is problematic.  Here's a 24-page thread on this topic:
Poor Bluetooth reception and jerky mouse
Bottom line, use a bluetooth dongle (that what I use -- IOGear GBU421) or wire up an external antenna to the bluetooth card inside your mac pro.
As an experiment you could try doing a smc and pram reset and keep the mouse close to the back of your machine and seeing if it pairs up and stays connected.

  • Just bought a Mac Pro and they told me I would be able to download Lion for free.  HOw can I do that?

I was told that a letter would be sent to me from Apple letting me know as soon as Lion was available for free download.  Haven't received my letter and can not download Lion without having to pay for it.  Any suggestions as to what's going on and when I might expect my letter?

Upgrading to OS X 10.7 FAQ
First, you need to make sure you're running the latest version of SnowLeopard 10.6.8
Click the "Apple" symbol in the top left corner of your screen and select "About This Mac."
Make sure you're running version 10.6.8.
If not, click "Software Update" from the same Apple menu and update your system.
Then when that's finished launch the MacAppStore from the same menu.
You'll see the giant Lion banner across the top. Click on it.
This brings you to the app page for Lion. It costs $29.99 -- click the price, then click "Buy App."

    Mission critical
If your using Mac's in a mission critical type environment or have third party hardware you must rely upon working correctly. It's advised to wait until all the bugs, driver updates, third party software and other issues are resolved before upgrading. This might take several months. Then if you do so, do one machine at a time and carefully test everything before full deployment.

  • What exactly is the Mac Pro?

I'm thinking about getting a Mac Pro, since I do a lot of video and photo editing. I'm also thinking about getting an iMac too, but I'm not really exactly sure how a Mac Pro works and do you need it to use an iMac? Please give detailed answers. I'm a newbie to the Mac Pro.

Both the Mac Pro and iMac are Mac desktop computers. The Mac Pro does not have a built-in monitor, and you need to buy a monitor to be able to use it for most purposes.
Other than that, the Mac Pro is specifically designed for high-end applications which can take advantage of its multiple-core processing and accelerated GPU processing. Not all applications will benefit from this, but certainly if you're an FCPX user, you are likely to see advantages.
Generally, though, if you're not sure if the Mac Pro would be the right fit for you, the iMac is probably going to be the Mac to look at - the expense of the Mac Pro may not be appropriate to your situation.

  • Getting error "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." on mac mini and imac but it works on old macbook pro

Please help! My hard drives work on all other computers except new imac and macmini.

Both the mac mini and imac do not have cd drives. The trouble is why should I repair the external HDs when they work fine on other computers? I'm running OS X 10.8.4. I feel like its an OS X problem but I cant say. I will try the suggestion but I absolutely cannot reformat these drives right now becuae it would be way too time consuming to recover all the files on them

  • Can I use Mac Mini as a "server" for a MacBook Pro and iMac?

I want to develop a simple system for accessing my files from multiple devices.
I heavily use iTunes (190 GB), iPhoto (120 GB) and iMovie (30 GB, but want to do more when I get time).  Additionally, I store lots of old videos on circa 10 portable hard drives (1 TB each), which I access occasionally.
The family use all this content and we currently have a MacBook Pro and are considering buying a new computer - either a new MacBook Pro or an iMac. We also have iPads, iPhones etc and a Time Capsule. We use wireless fibre optic broadband.
I don't really want multiple iTunes and iPhoto libraries.  We want all our music and pictures in single master libraries that we can all access and update.
As there is seemingly too much data to store on iCloud, we need to find an alternative solution.
    My possible solution is:
    (1) Load my master iTunes, iPhoto and iMovie libraries ("iTPM libs") on a Mac mini
    (2) Buy a new MacBook Pro or iMac (probably doesnt matter which)
    (3) Link the MacBook Pro(s) and iMac to the Mac mini to access iTunes, iPhoto and iMovie and the master iTPM libs
    (4) Plug the portable hard drives into the Mac mini whenever I need to access the video content stored on the portable hard drives
    (5) Add "users" to the system (i.e. family members), in the same way you would access a shared server at work
    (6) Over time, buy more computers to access the system in the same way
    My questions are:
    (1) Is this system feasible?
    (2) If so, can I edit the iTPM libs from the MacBook Pro or iMac?
    (3) If so, what happens if both the MacBook Pro and iMac are accessing the libraries at the same time? Which takes precedent?
    (4) Would this solution be significantly slower than having separate libraries on the different computers?
    (5) Is there an alternative approach that might work better for my needs? (which are, after all, relatively straight forward).  When I went to the Apple store they were unsure!
    Many thanks.

[…] We want all our music and pictures in single master libraries that we can all access and update.
The "update" portion of this is where your problems will arise.  You'd be better to consider your proposed system initially in terms of content "consumption", before getting into the nitty-gritty of editing shared content.
iTunes has the Home Sharing feature built-in, which solves the content consumption issue.
I don't know anything about sharing iPhoto libraries, but this KB article looks useful.
As for iMovie, I think there are two things you want to do: share the raw data (sound effects, music, photos etc.) that are used to create iMovie content; and share the finished results.  Is that right?  I'm not sure how you'd go about doing that, but if you clarify your aims in this regard, it'll help the next person who comes along.
When it comes to updating content, such as adding new music to iTunes or iPhoto, I'd suggest you do it through the Mac mini directly.  This seems the least problematic solution.  You wouldn't necessarily need a dedicated display for the Mac mini - you could use remote desktop or VNC or what-have-you.
As for speed: doing anything across a network is always going to be slower than doing it locally.  But, it probably won't matter for content consumption (though if you're all watching different movies at the same time the drives on the server may struggle, and the wifi bandwidth might be tight).
I hope this represents a good initial response to your query.

  • Can you take your main Hard Drive from a PC and put it in the Mac Pro?

Can I take my PC's 120GB hard drive that already has Windows XP on it and put it in one of the hard drive slots in the Mac Pro and have a dual boot system that way? Or is there any way I can do that?
    Thanks

    Hi there.
Not only reactivating is to consider, but Windows tends to
act strange if too many hardware parts change (and too many
    drivers are to be installed).
Especially with SATA-Drivers there are almost always difficulties, because Win XP itself doesn't know about SATA (because its too 'old').
Since I have use PCs for almost 18 years I would always recommend a fresh install, when things like Mainboards are changed.
    Have Fun

  • Mac Pro and XP

    Hi Guys,
I was just about to put an order in for a Mac Pro but I am having second thoughts now.
I need the machine to run primarily as a Windows XP machine but I am seeing on the web that there are some serious disk speed problems when running under windows.
Does anyone have one of these machines giving good disk performance?
    Cheers
    Andy

I must admit I was under the impression that the MAC Pro was fairly standard hardware useing the Intel 5000X chipset, why should this machine not run XP correctly?
Remember, Boot Camp (which lets you boot your Mac computer into Windows) is still beta software. Because it has worked so smoothly on Intel iMacs, Macbooks, and Macbook Pros, I think people have forgotten that it's beta.
But when you try to run Boot Camp on a Mac Pro, you are running beta software on a computer that was released less than a month ago! It's no surprise that all the drivers aren't perfect.
I am far from an expert, but personally, here is my advice:
If you don't need to buy a new machine right now, wait. I would guess the odds are good that Apple will release better SATA drivers for the Mac Pro soon. At the latest, you'll have to wait until spring 2007, when Apple releases Leopard (its next operating system) which will have Boot Camp built in. At that point, you'll be be able to judge the actual release version of Boot Camp, rather than the beta version.
If you can't wait, then you might have to buy two computers now. But--buy the Mac Pro first! That way, you can install Boot Camp and play with it for a little while to see if it works for you. Maybe the slow hard drive speed will be tolerable for a little while until better drivers are released. If so, then you've saved yourself the cost of a seperate XP machine.
And if the disk speed is NOT acceptable--then you can buy an XP machine, and you're no worse off than if you had bought both machines at once. (Well, except for the cost of a copy of Windows XP to install on the Mac, which is no big deal in the grand scheme of things.) And if in the future Apple releases an update that makes Boot Camp an acceptable option for you... then you can sell your XP box.
