Yes, you only have to make an icloud backup on your old phone and restore from that backup on your new phone. If everything goes well, you can safely restore your old phone.

Aliases are merely another address within the same account, you won't see additional groups of settings for them. You should however see them as an option in the pull down "From" menu when you create an email.

Not sure what the deal was, it appears Apple can't figure out this whole id thing. I had the same trouble today, I kept entering the sky password but would not accept, my iMac and iPod work ok but just could not get my iPod to work. But I found the fault, the password is case sensitive and mine on sky is in caps, the up arrows on the keypad put the caps on,but after each letter you must put the caps back or it wil revert to lower case, I hope this may help you

Change your old Apple ID using this link:

Click the blue Manage your Apple ID button.
Its password is unrelated to the password you use for the email associated with it.
If you don't remember the Apple ID password, click the Reset your password link.

You cannot change your Apple ID to another one that is already in use - in this case, the one you created for your iPnone and iPad. Decide which Apple ID you want to keep. If you need to change it, change it - don't create a new one.

Place the iPod in Recovery Mode and restore via iTunes.

Connect the iPod to its syncing computer and restore via iTunes. If iTunes asks for the passcode and you can't enter the passcode or yu do not have the syncing computer, place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore. For recovery mode see:

Yes I know what you mean about it cluttering the thread and for personal emails it is better without the signature. However this relates to sending business emails from an iPhone so I need the signature present on every email.
