If I reset Firefox due to opening new windows when I use browser or logout of e-mail, will I lose my bookmarks?

When I logout of e-mail whether it is g-mail or yahoo, Firefox closing e-mail in a new window and not the current window. The current window looks like I have not logged out.

No, a reset won't lose your bookmarks, history, passwords, etc. Also, update to Firefox 18.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

  • Firefox won't open new windows when I click "File" and "New Window". can you help me?

My question is just as it reads above. My computer is windows 7. I've never run into this before.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    Hello,
    ''jstavene wrote:''
can find nothing under the tools menu for private browsing?
Then it's not the same issue.
If Firefox is set to '''Never remember history''', then you're in “permanent private browsing” mode, in which case the menu item ''Stop Private Browsing'' will be grayed out. Perhaps that's the case, and you don't find the menu item easy to see?
    * [[Settings for privacy, browsing history and do-not-track]]
If that's not the case, then menu items can be hidden using the userChrome.css file. Check if it exists, and if it's there, rename it, then restart Firefox.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserChrome.css
In Firefox Nightly (what will become Firefox 20), per-window private browsing has been added, so the menu item under the Tools menu is gone. It's been replaced by New Private Window under the File menu. I don't suppose it's very likely that you're using such a cutting-edge test version of Firefox though.
If that doesn't solve the problem, since it's a different issue, it would be best if you would ask a new question.

  • Firefox 4 stops opening new windows after browser window dragged to second display

Firefox 4 stops opening new windows after browser window dragged to second display. It's weird. Behavior is fine until I drag any browser window to the attached second display, and after this point it stops opening new windows but will still open new tabs in the same window. Restart fixes it until I drag the window back to the second display.
"Show all bookmarks" stops working too--won't open a new window.
This is after clean reinstall with total deletion of any Firefox/Mozilla folders and the previously installed app and a restart of the computer.
    Mac OS X 10.6.7
    Firefox 4

    Pretty sure this is either:

    or
    '''Bug 609405'''
(...and they may be reporting the same thing.)

Firerfox has stopped opening new windows when I ask it to; why is this and what can be done to regain this option?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== not sure - about 2 weeks ago maybe. I recently upgraded to vn 3.6.8

This is a workstation first off, right? 60 lbs or so?:
And you have 10.7.2, if not why not?
    Quad core 2.8GHz? 3 x 2GB RAM or more?
Consider new Mac Pro comes with 1TB drive 50% is actually a lot. Most users off load non system stuff to one of the other 4 hard drive bays.
As for youtube I do read and saw threads when Lion came out. Lion does not support Rosetta aka PPC/PowerPC code of any kind, plug-ins, drivers and software all. Check into Lion Community?

  • Finder Windows always open new windows when clicking subfolders

since i upgraded to 10.5.6, my finder windows only open new windows when I click on a subfolder. this is no matter what I do with the setting in preferences.
Also, my finder windows no longer display the side bars with folder icons.
I searched my library (and whole computer) for the finder preferences .plist file and can't find it. (was going to delete it and re-create it).
    Any ideas here?

    Thanks for the star.
The default of Finder’s Find will not search that folder, but you can change the pulldown menu just beneath where it says Search, from Kind to System files by selecting Other from that menu and then scroll down the next window and check the box next to System files. You’ll then need to change the pulldown menu next to that to “include” instead of “don’t include.”
The next time you do a search using Find, that pulldown menu will have System files as an option, if you think you might want to search for something in your home folder.

  • Firefox won't open new windows or upload video

Firefox is starting to get on my nerves with this one. The program will be working fine and then suddenly stop opening new windows. For example, I'll take a quiz and want to upload my results to facebook. I'll click the button and instead of opening a new window for facebook, it does nothing. Another example: I'm taking an online course and if I click to upload a file, instead of opening a window, it does nothing. When I click the red X to close firefox, nothing happens. Also, the minimize, restore, and close window buttons no longer respond. I have to open my task manager and manually stop the process. I notice when I reopen the program, it offers to restore all of my tabs as well as windows that mysteriously never opened before. This has been going on for about a week now and it really is annoying. I also notice when this happens that firefox seems to be taking up an unusual amount of RAM on my computer. What gives?
I am using the most recent version of Firefox on a Dell PC and running the most recent version of Windows 7.

  • I have not checked "Open new windows in a new tab instead" but Firefox 5 keeps opening new windows in a new tab. How do I stop this?

I do not want to use the tab feature.
I have an iMac OS 10.6.8

(''Note: cross posted from [https://support.mozilla.com/nl/questions/801471 here].'')
I had the same problem, but was able to fix it somewhat.
    # Open the about:config page.
    # Set the ''browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction'' setting to 0 (= zero).
On my machine this will open new windows in a new tab. However, it switches to the new tab regardless of the setting ''"When I open a link in new tab, switch to it immediatly"''.

  • Firefox opens new window when link is clicked but the bookmarks toolbar is missing

When I start up firefox, the original window displays my bookmark toolbar. But when I click a link where firefox opens a new window, not a new tab, the new window doesn't display my bookmark toolbar. I made sure that it was toggled to be on, and the original window has it, but the new one does not. I don't know how to fix it and it's really irritating because I use the toolbar a lot.

  • Firefox won't open new tabs when I click, also he doesn't open new tabs when I use CTRL+T. Any solutions?

When I want to open a new tab, firefox doesn't do it. The problem is the same when I use CTRL+T. So I can't open any new tabs.
Nothing seems to work: restart the pc, closing firefox,...

Uninstall the '''''Ask Toolbar'''''. It can cause that problem.

  • Firefox won't open new windows as maximized

I'm running Firefox 31 on Windows 7, and in the program properties I've set it to run "maximized". When I open a new browser window using either the desktop or start menu shortcuts or "File > New Window" in the browser itself, it opens maximized just as it should. However, when I click a link that's programmed to open in a new window, the new window consistently opens as "normal window" rather than "maximized". I find this incredibly irritating.
This problem did not occur at all back when I was using Firefox 28.
I have not been able to find any way to correct it in the settings or options, nor have I been able to find any remedies in the form of add-ons. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Well that looks easy enough.
