IF I UNINSTALL & REINSTALL ITUNES WILL I LOSE ITUNES LIBRARY AND PLAYLIST

I GET THIS MESSAGE WHEN I START ITUNES. (THE REGISTRY SETTINGS USED BY ITUNES DRIVERS FOR IMPORTING AND BURNING CD'S AND DVD'S ARE MISSING. PLEASE REINSTALL ITUNES.) IF I UNINSTALL AND REINSTALL ITUNES 10 WILL I LOSE MY ITUNES LIBRARY AND PLAYLIST?

Hi dude,
I know it was over a year ago when you asked this, so I guess you've got it sorted now... Anyway, I had the same problem so I entered the registry data manually. Here's the guide if you or anyone else needs it:

  • If i reinstall itunes will I lose my library?

I recently got a message when trying to start itunes on my PC that it has failed to start "because MSVCR80.dll was not found" and suggests reinstalling.
If I reinstall, will I lose my library and have to reload all my CDs?
    Thx for any help.

Under normal circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall doesn't touch your content. (That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a current backup at all times in case of disasters of any sort.)
Uninstall your existing copy of iTunes. Delete any copies of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer files from your downloads areas for your web browsers and download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
(The current build of the 11.1.4.62 installer was changed a few days ago, which fixed the bulk of the reports of MSVCR80.dll/R6034/APSDaemon.exe/Error-7/AMDS-could-not-start trouble ... but the build number on the installer was not changed. So we're trying to make sure you do the reinstall using a "new good" 11.1.4.62 installer instead of an "old bad".)
Does the install with the new copy of the installer go through properly? If so, does that clear up the error message?
If you still have the same error messages cropping up, then try the procedures from the following user tip:

if i update itunes will i lose my apps and contacts and the other contents?

No.  In fact, it is possible to uninstall iTunes and then re-install iTunes without losing any content.
Removing, updating, and repairing the application has no affect on the media stored on the system.

  • Uninstalling iTunes & reinstall iTunes~will I lose my library?

I've been prompted by error message to uninstall and reinstall my iTunes. Will I lose my library? (Error message 2).

Even if I didn't purchase files from iTunes store? I have mostly shared files from another application that were transferred over to iTunes. I just found an article about how only iTunes purchases will automatically be saved as well as files that are directly from CD's and the rest of the files could be lost. I don't have a back-up... tried to access my library files through my user folder (i'm on vista) and I can't even do that!

  • If I uninstall/reinstall iTunes will I lose my library?

I want to uninstall iTunes, as I have too many files that are unorganized. I am worried that I will lose my library. Will I lose it, or is there another way within iTunes to update all my file names and locations?

Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes will not help with disorganized files unless you intent to allow iTunes to create a new library and have it organize things for you automatically. If that's what you intend, then no, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes should not cause you lose any of your content.
That said, it's wise to make a backup of any content that you've purchased from the iTunes Store or that would otherwise be difficult to replace and of your playlists before you upgrade, just in case something would happen to go wrong.
    Regards.

  • Every time itunes updates, I lose my music and playlists

    Hi there
I am using an iPo Classic and Windows 8.
Lately, whenever iTune runs an update, it loses my whole music library and playlists.
The iTunes folder is also empty. This is very irritating! There is free software which very esil can restore my msuuc back from the Ipod, but I cannot find anywhere which can reinstall one's playlists in iTunes - and this is more of a mission ti recreate than simply re-importing all the musi
Does anyone know how to get one's playlists back from the Ipod?
    Thanks!

The instructions do NOT involve manually deleting the Trusteer folder on the C drive. As this is a security related program it may not be surprising that it will try to prevent deletion of the folder.
You need to follow the correct uninstall instructions. If you have a problem with them then it is a Windows / Trusteer issue and you would be best asking them.
I do note their site now specifically lists firefox 30 as being supported.

  • ITunes loses my library and playlists for no apparent reason!

I opened up my iTunes today, and my library and playlists are not there! This is the second time it's happened in the last week. The last time I solved it by doing: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967 and it worked temporarily, but it was my old-old playlists and stuff. What can I do to get my most recent library and playlists back? I see them in my folder....why is iTunes not connecting with my folder? I hope you can help.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

  • If I uninstall/reinstall Firefox, will I lose my bookmarks?

  • HT1420 i need to reauthorize a computer that no longer works. i understand that in order to do this i need to deauthorize all computers using iTunes. will i lose my library when i try and authorize a new computer ?

i need to de-authorize a computor that no longer works. i undersatnd that i need to de-authroize all computors associated with this acount and then authrorize each computor that i want. question : will i lose my music libary??

No, you won't lose anything. De-authorising only means not allowing a computer to play purchased content but it won't delete the file.

  • Newest itunes update deleted my entire library and playlists.

Im extremely unsatisfied, so could you think of a solution apple? All i did was download YOU'RE update, and it reopens with 0 playlists or songs in any libraries. minus some of the purchased songs i dont even want. These updates are getting more and more terrible, so do you think you could actually fix you're mistakes? thank you!

Would you mind telling me which anti-virus package you use? It may be that it is disturbing iTunes when it tries to write out the fresh database, as it does after almost any activity with your library. I'm noticing more of this type of problem than usual and trying to see if there is any pattern. It may help to prevent a repeat of the problem if you look at the advanced options for your AV package and see if you can find a way to exclude the iTunes folder from any real-time scanning process.

  • Restore iTunes library and playlists to new computer

Hi. I'm buying a new computer and am looking for an easy way to transfer all my music and playlists over from the old computer to the new one. I have the entire iTunes folder backed up onto a different network computer from my current (old) computer. Now the way I understand it, is if I copy the entire iTunes folder from my network computer onto the new computer, it will restore all my library and playlists. Is this right? The only problem is, I will be using different versions of iTunes. This is because I am moving from Windows 2000 to Vista and I can't download the latest version of iTunes to Windows 2000 because it isn't being supported any more.
Will I be able to restore my library and playlists from one version of iTunes to another? Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes provided all your music files were in the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes folder, you should be able to copy the iTunes folder to your new PC and have all your playlists etc.
Install iTunes on the new PC first. Then, with iTunes closed and before you add any music, drag the iTunes folder out of the Music folder on the new PC to the desktop.
Then copy the iTunes folder from the backup onto the new PC to replace the one your dragged out.
You need to check the file permissions of the iTunes folder to ensure your account has full control, Vista is fussy about this, and the folder was created under another account.
Once you have done this, start iTunes and it should convert the library to the newer version etc. With any luck you will have your everything back as it was.

I have tryed to update my iPhone firmware as they said there is a new update firmware, it would not install this and put my phone into recovery mode and I had to use iPhone recovery fix to get it out of recovery mode, my iPhone did a back-up before it tried to update the firmware.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

No, your library will remain - but you should be keeping and maintaining a backup of your downloads/library.

  • I tunes will no longer open. If I uninstall and re-install itunes will I lose the music in the library

Itunes weill no longer open. If I uninstall and re-install itunes will I lose the music from the itunes library?

    Hello,
All of your content is stored outside of iTunes in the event that the program needs to be removed or reinstalled. Take a look at the article below for instructions on how to properly remove and reinstall iTunes.
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Notes:
iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes. While it is highly unlikely that you will lose any contents of your iTunes Library when following these steps, it is always a good idea to ensure that your iTunes library is backed up. If you're unsure how to backup, see iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.
These steps may take a significant amount of time to complete, depending on your system.
    Hope that helps,
    Griff W.
