My iphone 3g does not work after updating the software through itunes

Some days ago I made a security copy of my iPhone 3G at iTunes. Today when I conected my iPhone to iTunes I had a message saying I had to update the software of my phone. I accepted and after around 30 minutes of update I got another message saying there had been a problem restarting my phone. The screen of my mobile was showing the iTunes icone and the USB icone and I can't access to the content of it. So I disconnected the mobile from iTunes and connected it again and I got another message saying iTunes has detected a mobile phone in recovering process and it says I have to restaure the iPhone to be able to use it in iTunes. And, by the way, before all this when I connected my phone to iTunes the iTunes recognized the name of my mobile. It doesn't anymore, it just says "iPhone" on the left column.
My question is: Should I restaure the iPhone? Will I be able to recover the security copy I made some days ago? Where can I access that copy?

When restoring the iPhone with iTunes, the iPhone is completely erased first folllowed by the current iOS version being re-installed. After iOS is reinstalled, you are prompted to restore from your iPhone's backup, which is the default selection. The other available selection is to restore as a new iPhone or not from the backup.

I have an iphone 4 and it has been playing up a bit . It works fine , by this I mean you can use it to make calls text and all the rest , however when I try upload any new music from itunes on to the iphone it will not work at all . I have tried over and over again . My friend told that I need to update itunes or my iphone software for it work again . My itunes is all up to date however when I try to update the iphone it keeps coming up as error .

As far as i'm aware, there is no actual 4/4s software.
Both phones run iOS 6.0.1 Firmware, it's just the 4 some features are disabled on the 4 (Siri etc)

I have the iPhone 5 and have with 6.0.1 software version. Although I had them when I moved from iPhone 4 to the 5, the latest update has most of my songs on the phone listed in grey (over 95% of them) and I can't play them. They are still listed though.

P.S. When I look at my Playlists most of the songs are greyed out. However, at the bottom of the list there is a cloud icon with a downward facing arrow. When I click on it each song starts to "load" and after a few minutes I have the songs back on in the list. I have to do this to all my playlists (I had over 100) in order to get access to all my songs. Then I did a sync and it happened again!
I use iCloud for documents and some other things (calendar, contact, etc.) but am not aware that I have anything music-wise in the cloud. Any thougnts?

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

Working on that now. I'm just getting frustrated that everytime I run updates for the phone I end up with tech problems that I have to spend time solving as opposed to updates that actually improve my usage. Now I will once again get to spend hours reloading my phone all for updates that didn't affect my usage in the first place.

There are numerous ways to conduct an update on your iPhone, these include but are not limited to iTunes and Software Update in settings on your phone.
iTunes - plug your phone into your Mac or PC and launch iTunes, select the phone from the either the side bar or the top of the iTunes window and on the summary / info page you have the option there to check for a software update.
iPhone - if connected to WiFi goto settings : software update and the phone will conduct a check and if required will give you the option to download and then install the update, your phone will need to plugged into a power outlet whilst this occurs.

This has nothing to do with the Find my iPhone app being installed on the phone, but you do have to have Find my iPhone activated in the iCloud settings on the phone.

Updating iTunes has nothing to do with an iDevice going into recovery mode.
If the device is in recovery mode, restore it via iTunes on a computer.

I plug into itunes and check for update there and it still indicates that 5.0.1. is up to date as well.

I am running windows 7 Home Premium Edition and just updated iTunes to the latest version. While downloading the iOS 4.3.3 software update the status bar fills completely, then while processing file it stops and I get an error message saying "The software for the iPhone was corrupted during download. Disconnect, reconnect and try again. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." My network is up and running just fine with no problems and I have attempted this update at least 7 times on my phone and a few on my wife's. PLEASE HELP!
